I love Academy; its my go to place for anything relating to sports and outdoors. I don't think I have ever had unsuccessful trip to Academy; I always find what I'm looking for. From camping, swimming, fishing, hunting; to just about every team sport possible its all at Academy. I especially like this location cause it seems to be a little neater and less crowded.
The thing I purchase the most at Academy are shoes. I wear tennis for work, and usually go through them fast. I can always count on Academy to have a pair that fits me, and at a great price usually between $45 - $60. Academy has shoes for all sports at all levels from beginner to advance, and at all price levels. You will find shoes for the whole family with just one trip to Academy Sports and Outdoors. I give Academy Sports & Outdoors 5 stars get your shoe on here. -

In my opinion, Academy Sports and Outdoors is the de facto store to visit for all of your sports needs. If you're looking specifically for outdoor items I would direct you to the Bass Pro Shop in the Rim shopping center. Academy does offer a wide variety of fishing and hunting products however I've always felt that they're trying to be the Wal-Mart of sports and outdoors. If they just stuck to one or the other I'm sure I'd have a different opinion, however even as you walk in you'll notice it's wide expansion, high ceilings, and it's very brightly lit; exactly like every Wal-Mart in the world.
In general I prefer Dicks Sporting goods simply because I feel the level of service is superior and the sporting apparel they have while not as numerous as Academy is often (in my opinion) of a slightly higher quality. It comes down to this really, are you a Wal-Mart person, or a Target? I'm not saying there's anything wrong with Wal-Mart, there's something to be said for a big box store that's a one stop shop; I'm just a stickler for a more personal touch and gear that stays good for slightly longer then something that might have been a few dollars cheaper. -

I had a pretty poor experience at Academy. The only problem is that I'll most likely have to return considering there aren't many options for sporting goods. I was trying to buy a weight and bench set for my husband. I asked someone to help me and he said he was going to finish up with another customer and come back. I watched him leave with another employee...like leave the store. They were probably gone for about 10 minutes. Maybe a break? Then he came back and offered to help me. I told him exactly what I wanted and he disappeared for another 10 minutes. He gave me the sku and asked me to pay and pull my car up to the front. After I pulled up my car and hunted him down, I had to wait for him to finish flirting with the girl who works at the podium. The whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth. Will I return? Probably...especially with the decent the prices. Do I want to? I think not.

I love Academy! They have everything! Guns, knives, sports balls, water balloon slingshots! The staff is friendly and helpful. The prices are competitive.
