I have a love/hate relationship with this bank. I swore long ago I'd never bank with the big 3 banks again. It was small banks and credit unions for me from then on out. Better rates, MUCH better customer service, and a more personalized experience in general.
I was attracted to Academy Bank bc they are inside walmart and nationwide a.k.a. Armed Forces Bank. I opened my personal and my business account with them. The call center is always great...they've always been able to resolve every issue to my satisfaction, and they don't charge to talk to an agent unlike SOME banks. They've even called me back if it took longer than a few minutes to resolve.
The downside (and this might sound snooty) they offer "2nd chance checking". In some cases I'm assuming more like 8th chance checking. People ahead of you at the windows usually have some gigantic problem that's going to take a year to fix, and there's no merchant line for deposits only, or overnight/after hours deposit slot. Which more often than not, is all I need to do. The turnover, in every branch, is HUGE. Occasionally their corporate office will just come in and chop heads. Politics and red tape in management will often bleed over into the tellers and you can feel their stress. But all in all, everyone is really nice.
It's been 4 years now, and with a few business tweaks here and there they could be 5 stars :)
