This is the BEST bank I have ever banked at. My credit is not that great and this is the only bank I have ever found that didn't run a credit check and/or penalize me for my credit score. They offer free checking as long as you have direct deposit ($7 a month if you don't) along with a free debit card and overdraft protection. Their overdraft fees are also low, only $25. Also, they don't charge you on a daily basis if your account is overdrawn, like some other banks do. They have always been great about processing debits. As long as I make a deposit before 4:00 the day the debits are posted, they will not overdraw the account. I have had other banks (Wells Fargo!) that will take out the debits first, charge a fee, then post my deposit. They have never done that to me. They have always made sure they charge me the least amount of fees possible. And the tellers are so considerate. They will do anything and everything they can to make sure you get what you need. One time the manager ran down my husband in the parking lot after one of the tellers said they couldn't cash his check to tell him she would go ahead and cash it for him. Plus they are open seven days a week, until 8:00 on the weekdays and 7:00 on the weekends. The branch I use is in a Walmart so they are open later than other branches. Make sure you check with each branch because their hours do vary. There are tons of branches all over Colorado, even in the mountains, making it convenient to stop by one even on a weekend getaway. They are the only bank I have ever been to that made me feel like they were actually there to help me, not just out to get my money. In the era of big bank bailouts, credit card card companies arbitrarily raising rates and minimum payments, consumers getting screwed and a general feeling of economic crisis, Academy Bank is like a shot of whiskey in my coffee on a winter morning or an ice cold beer on a summer afternoon - refreshing!
