Had my hair cut by Carolyn, and she was wonderful! So good natured even though I was a little over 20 mins late due to all kinds of mishaps! She got right down to business with a consultation, and was clear and helpful and all with a friendly sweet disposition! Did I mention I was late? She still treated me with understanding and respect! I was so flustered and she immediately calmed me down, I even forgot to pay for the self pay parking space across the street in my haste and was just going to let it go and get a ticket, I caused enough trouble, but she sent an assistant out to the lot to pay for it with my credit card! I thought that was incredibly thoughtful, you just don't get much of that nowadays.
As far as cutting my hair, she is a true professional, honest and cuts with precision and skill. I am calling her my Hair Dr. My hair was such a mess from a previous stylist so I was a challenge, and gun shy! She sensed that right away. She did such a great job, brought the health and bounce back to my hair, and recommended some excellent prouducts to maintain it. Because of my last disastrous encounter with a hair stylist (who used shears that made my hair frizz up, and we're talkin straight asian hair now) she was very careful to give me a style that was as close to what I wanted and yet not overboard as to scare me out of the chair.
Thanks Carolyn! You're the best!! -

Had a tint touch up with approximately 6 foils for a bit of dimension and I liked it before departing, however, when I arrived home I noticed almost my entire hair line -right side greater than left-was covered with gray! And in less than 1 month my scalp was / covered again. In any event, I called a week later to see how the salon would handle it and I rcvd no call back. I even called a second time about 3 weeks later-i'm very busy- and still no call back! Long story short -- for the price you pay for color, that is-even with a coupon- $ 100.00 w/ a coupon and $ 125.00 without-for a touch up--it's simply not worth. It was very frustrating and wasteful. 2 stars for Carolyn because she's pleasant, but....

I got a coupon for Christmas to get my hair cut by Carolyn, and I will definitely go back and pay full price. I went to a terrible stylist in the city who did one over on my hair. Carolyn really took her time and did a great, precise job fixing all of the problems he had created. She let me tell her what I wanted and offered her advice in a way that was very well received. She wasn't very talkative and didn't do the whole head massage thing I always look forward to when getting my hair cut. But neither of those are really in her job description, so when it comes down to it she was great and I will now be a regular client.

Finding a stylist who can cut and shape uber thick wavy hair in a creative way has been a challenge. I'm relieved that my tresses have finally found a home at Acabello. Carolyn Taymuree is a styling genius, plus she is fun to hang out with. In fact, the whole vibe at Acabello is professional, accommodating, upbeat, customer focused and cool. Highly recommended!

Thank you Medina for hooking it up!!! She gave me exactly the hair color and highlights I wanted. The highlights are blended very well and she managed to give my hair color some life without changing the natural color.
Very professional and nice setting in this salon as well, I would definitely recommend it and would refer all my friends to Medina. -

I was very unhappy with a cut that I received from another salon that had grown out horrible, the man who cut my hair did not listen to what I was asking for and I was very unhappy with my hair. I had to let it grow out before I was ready for the next cut.
I decided to try Glenda at Acabello's after reading several reviews. The salon had a nice vibe, lots of natural light with huge windows and great artwork on the walls. Glenda was right on time, she was welcoming and friendly, listened to my needs and gave me more than what I asked for.
I am soooO happy with my cut, Glenda did a fabulous job and my hair looks great! She had to do some "cleaning up", but it seemed effortless for her and she was so professional about the whole thing. She even gave me great tips about how to use the product that was sitting on my shelves at home and did not try to sell me more. She also gives free bang cuts. My hair looks healthy now and has shine and movement again! I will definitely go back! Thank you Glenda!!! -

Thanks to Bloomspot, I was introduced to Acabello Salon and to stylist Carolynn Taymuree. I came in for a cut only and she was quick, delightful and gave me helpful pointers on how to blow-out my hair. Acabello is a very professional salon and I would definitely go back again.

After 4 or 5 trips to Gina Khan I lost my faith in Hope. I don't want to badmouth her because she is a good stylist, I just feel like she was giving me the cut that she wanted, not what I wanted...and for $143 bucks I think I should get what I want. Not to mention I hate the whole idea of paying more just because it's Maiden Lane which I could really care less about.
A friend recommended Acabello so I read the reviews and called the salon to find out who would be good for curly layered hair...I chose Glenda and am really happy with the results.
Not only is the salon in a great location (easy parking in the pay lot across from Mollie Stones), it is way less pretentious than the ones on Maiden Lane.
As for Glenda, she was great. My hair had grown out a lot so I brought her a photo of what it used to look like, explained what I wanted (allowing her some artistic freedom) and she worked her magic. She was very patient, asked questions along the way and didn't let me leave until I was satisfied. She's a real professional. I got a better haircut and saved $53. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Glenda, and will definitely be back. -

This review is for Glenda whom I saw about 2 or 3 months ago. I accidentally booked her on a bloomspot deal in which I was supposed to have another stylist. She was generous about the incident (even though I think she took a loss on the deal) and gave me a great cut. She knows what she is doing and she's a great listener. She didn't get scissor happy until she really understood what I wanted in my new cut.
She also has a cool story if you're in the mood for chatting. Found out she's also a yoga teacher and one of these days I'm definitely going to make it into her yoga class! -

First, I have to admit that I might be slighty biased because I know Anna outside of the salon. That girl and I go see shows together.
With that said, the first time I went Anna showed me a New World, a world free from the $10 cut I used to get from the Vietnamese ladies in San Jose when I used to live there. Everytime I go see Anna it is like the best hour over. First, she shampoos my hair with a to-die-for scalp massage (feel like it anyway), then it is back to ther chair where she puts her magic to work. When she is done I am a new man. A New Man for a New World. Everytime I walk out of there I feel like a gorgeous gay man, except for, you know, the whole gay thing and that I have no sense of style whatsoever.
Now I just need to work on the whole style thing, because I'm letting my otherwise gorgeous haircut go to waste. -

Hell Ya I'm a fan of Abet!!!! I've been flying down to LA to get my hair done since moving up here almost 4 years ago. Since work has taken up my time, plus my "girl" has been extremely busy, I've decided to cheat on her, AGAIN.
I've cheated on her twice before and every time she has called me out. She always took me back and gave me the riot act and I do pay for the horrible cut and color (payback is a bitch!!!!), therefore I've been loyal until I was recommended to Abet.
*SIGH* What else can I say about Abet other than, he knows Asian hair. He was really sweet and very knowledgeable with cuts and style. I'm not in expert but having a best friend who styles hair, I know a little bit about cuts and style, especially my own. I couldn't be happier. Every since my cut and style, I've been getting hit on and ask on dates by younger men. My ego has skyrocketed.
I will definitely go back to Abet and regarding cheating on my best friend down in LA, she knows and so does Abet! Maybe we can have a mange trois???? Mmmmmmmm....I wonder????? -

I'm going to let you in on a little secret: Asian hair is impossible to cut. Most stylists butchered my hair so it sticks straight out from my head into this weird triangle shape that looks like I've been electrocuted.
I knew I found that right guy when everyone and their mother compliments me on my hair.
Abet has found a way to make sure my layers swing in a direction dictated by gravity and not an unruly magnetic field.
Although the cuts are on the pricey side, you don't need to got back too often cause they grow out so nicely.
When I donated my hair to Locks of Love last year, Abet gave me a chic bob. I thought I was going to hate it but was very cute. -

Elena Goodson rocks my (hair) world. I've been going to Elena for over a year now and have recommended 3 friends to her (one of which lives about 30 miles away) and they all love her. She's an amazing stylist and truely listens to your needs; the end result is always better than what I hoped for! She's fun to talk to and is running on time about 80% of the time, and that's usually because she goes the extra mile and styles your hair after your cut, whether she curls it or straightens it...you always feel like a million bucks when you walk out of there!
She runs about $60 for a cut which is worth every penny! -

I got an amazing hair cut this week from Arthur Lesniak. Full disclosure: Arthur is a friend of mine (we're in a band together). So, I was a bit shy of t having him do my hair. What if I didn't like it? What if something went wrong? It's easy to not return to a stylist I don't know; much harder to play music with a stylist if I didn't like the cut he gave me.
Lucky for me, Arthur is a great hairstylist. I wanted layers and movement around my face, I wanted to look pretty and sexy and stylish. Check, check, check and check! Then he blew my hair out straight (it is very wavy/curly) and I loved it. It felt like silk. And it looked absolutely wonderful. I got tons of compliments on my hair. Some people didn't even recognize me, which was kind of cool.
I would recommend Arthur to anyone who wants something different, who is willing to try new things and who wants their hair to look amazing!
BTW, my Yelp profile picture was taken the day after he did my hair. -

I'm so vain.
I know it though, and I'm not ashamed to say it.
Anna with over 15 years of experience, is is my dream hairstylist. She herself first off, is great: her hair looks amazing and natural at all times, she is always dressed cute (thus reassuring that she knows what is current in the hair world, and super easy to talk to. You can trust she will tell you if a hair style is gonna suck on you, and she'll give you what you wanted. She also will give you instruction for replicating the style at home, and how to maintain a healthy head of hair. She never runs late, and is not overly expensive or hard to get into and see. My hair always looks going out ready and healthy and happy leaving her. If only I was that skilled at doing it at home, despite her detailed instructions.
What more could I ask for? -

Julie is awesome. Seriously awesome. I really respect a stylist who not only listens to what the clients want and like, but can also translate the nonsensical blabbering of people like me into something that looks pretty. Seriously, I have no idea what I'm talking about when it comes to hair, I mostly make a lot of hand motions and throw out the technical jargon I know, a.k.a. "I have to show up for work and look professional, so please don't make me look like a raccoon". I made many statements in the form of a question (instead of "I like a lot of smaller highlights." it was, "I like a lot of smaller highlights???????"), which probably made her job a lot harder.
She spent a lot of time on my hair and it turned out great - it was exactly what I wanted. Two months later, it still looks awesome. Julie rocks, so go see her! (And btw, whatever she did worked, because the next night I got engaged!)
-1 star because Acabello doesn't take credit cards. Maybe they had this on their website, I don't know, but it's still super annoying and inconvenient. Luckily I had cash, but I had to walk back instead of cabbing because my wallet was literally empty. -

Paul Enriquez is my hair guru!
We've done a variety of colors and cuts and I love them all!
His rate is also really reasonable considering that I step out of his chair looking almost famous every time.
Paul shampoos, colors, cuts & styles my hair himself. He does not rely on Assistants to do it for him. I completely appreciate that. I've been to so many salons in this city where I cannot get the person I scheduled the service with to actually perform it!
He makes the time fly with his witty personality (& I do agree with Audrey C. that he is a wealth of info on where to go/what to do in SF). He even goes outside & fills my parking meter for me if it's close to expiring & I'm not finished yet... Who does that?!
My husband also gets his hair cut by Paul & I swear I love him even more because of it ;-)Listed in: Primp, Pamper & Be Well

i love GLENDA! She gave me a great haircut and I walked out feeling like a hotass bitch. I was really, really happy with the cut and she kept me smiling the whole time as we discussed the latest tabloid gossip.
I hadn't had a "real" haircut in several months so my ends were pretty ragged and I was in desperate need of some styling. I have curly/kinky hair and that can be challenging for stylists who seem to think that curly hair will do the same thing wet as it will when it's dry (news flash: it won't).
Go see Glenda, she'll hook you up with a phat 'do. -

I made an appointment with Glenda after getting her name from a friend with fabulous hair. I have had a really hard time finding a stylist in San Francisco that I like....so I am willing to pay a high price for what I want.
My appointment with Glenda went fine, we didn't talk much once she started on my full highlites and cut. I didn't love the color when I left the salon, but I didn't want to say anything right away. Wasn't sure if I needed a little time and to experiment with doing my hair myself...but the next day, in the natural light, I knew I had a problem. My highlites were just too subtle, too warm...not light enough. I emailed Glenda and awkwardly explained that I wasn't satisfied. I was anxious about this...I've never contacted a stylist after the fact because I was unsatisfied. I didn't know how she would react. Glenda emailed me back almost immediatly and we set up an appointment the next day for me to come back for a fix-up.
I couldn't be happier with my hair now. Glenda was so gracious and made me feel comfortable coming back. She absolutely wanted me to be happy with my hair and took the time to make sure I was. After a 2 hour second appointment, I know I will refer friends to her and return myself.
Its a pretty expensive salon, but I'll be back. I hope I have finally found my salon-home in San Francisco! -

First, let me say that I adore Glenda. She's kind of a wack-job, but maybe that's why I like her. I get lots of compliments on the cut, even after it's grown out -- thanks for keeping me looking hot, lady!
I knocked off one star because they're a little disorganized in the scheduling department. I wanted my bridal party to come in for updos on the day of the wedding, so I booked everyone in at the time I wanted about three months ahead of the date. A month later began the series of phone calls that seriously elevated my blood pressure and caused one of my seven Bridal Breakdowns this year. "So-and-so doesn't do updos ... oh, and that other girls is going to be out of town that weekend and didn't tell me." So, there I was, without four of the eleven appointments I was trying to coordinate, and pretty pissed at them for not having their shit together.
But, they did salvage the situation in the end by getting me the appointments at another salon. Who knew that so few stylists do updos?? Luckily Glenda does -- and she totally rocks the style. -

hahaha...hands down without a doubt that Abet has run this place successfully. Concerning Abet...he's too funny. Everytime I skip him for a haircut then I go back to him...he says..."you've cheated on me, huh? but you keep on coming back..." then I say..."Yes I do..." ;-D You get what you pay and I ALWAYS walk out of that salon feeling and looking sexy. Thanks Abet.
(and you want to know the reason why I go to other places...well, I either get a gift certificate or something...I am picky about my hair but I do give other salons the benefit of the doubt)1 Previous Review: Show all »

Kevin is the best!
I followed Kevin here from Patrick Richard's in Sacramento street. I followed him because after years and years of awful haircuts that made me cry, I found Kevin who ALWAYS does a good job. Not only does he listen to what style I'm looking for, he is also skilled at knowing what looks good with my hair type and face. -

whatever you do DO NOT get anything done by carolyn!! unless you want to look like trailer park trash! how can you go in with hair that has never been dyed or chemically treated hair and come out having it looking like your hair had been fried by a flat ironed for 8 months.. seriously DO NOT trust any stylist that has disgusting hair themselves .. tells a lot about their work and what lack of pride they have in it! almost $100 not including tip for my hair to look fried and like CRAP!
this salon should be embarrassed to employ this beauty school drop out in it! whomever gave this chick a license should be beat!
every other person who worked there had a client in their chair that had amazing hair and mine was a disaster.... i am mortified and i have to now try to grow this out.... unbelievable!! -

I've followed Arthur for several years and three salons. This one seems to be the nicest so far in terms of the environment - light, airy, not the usual cramped we're talking in the subway car feeling
Arthur I highly recommend - he has a great sense of style and will encourage you to try changes both big and small if he thinks they'll work... but having said that if you don't like the idea he is completely responsive and won't throw any hissies. I've usually tried though, and been very happy. His haircuts also tend to result in happy girlfriend/wife... never a bad thing -

Just take a look at my big crazy hair!
Wade Lockwood is my darling hair designer that has been my mane man for 10 years people!!
This salon is at a great location for the city. there is plenty of parking across the street and a grocery store (Molly Stone) next door.
the front desk gals have always been very sweet and professional.
Wade can do ANY hair and style your lil heart desires.i usually cut out photos from a magazine and he miraculously delivers every time.
just make sure you have some MAJOR plans (dinner at Michael Mina perhaps?) before you go because you will leave looking like a million bucks :) -

I've been seeing Rhian for years and I would never trust my hair to anyone else. I swear, if I ever move, Rhian would be worth a flight across the country. She always gives me the most incredible looking highlights, spending hours perfecting my hair. She also makes my hair look really voluminous the way she cuts and styles. I followed her to Acabello and would follow her anywhere.
The salon is great and the service of the other staff has gotten dramatically better in the past few months. The schedulers are on top of their stuff now and on my last visit I got 3 phone calls to let me know each 15 min. increment they were running late. If one person arrives late it throws the whole day off, and instead of sitting at the salon waiting, they were incredibly attentive and quick to call and let me know- how great!
They still don't take Amex but no matter what I'll always stick it out for Rhian! -
Review from Gina C.
Rhian is the best - she gave me a great haircut that I don't have to fuss with.
Not only do you get a great cut - but you also have a hairdresser that is personable, friendly, and really listens to what you like.

When it comes to AMAZING color at an affordable price - this is your girl!
When I first met Julie (my favorite hair stylist here), I was quite the brat as I couldn't get over that I was really stuck in my ways with regards to my hair length and style. But you know, what I really like about her is that she pushes you to go beyond your standard perception of beauty and helps you to explore a different perspective. And you come out looking FABULOUS over it!!!!!!!
I especially like the fact that she comes in on Thursdays, Friday's, AND Saturday's to appease her demanding San Francisco clients. She also travels all over the planet to keep learning different trends/techniques. She has such a passion for what she does and knows how to weave the best cuts and colors into your new look. Highly recommended.
I know there are other stylists here but Julie rocks and you should try her for yourself as well. Trust me - luck be a lady isn't just a song you know.. -

We drive from Sunnyvale to SF just to get our haircuts by Kevin.
The whole salon is great and every stylist seems to be competent, friendly, and talented. I can honestly say that every single haircut that comes out of that place looks awesome- trendy, hip, very fashionable. They sell and use Bumble and Bumble products as well as some other brands.
They display artwork made by local artists on the walls and you can purchase some of it. All kinds of media- real neat stuff.Listed in: Salons and Spas

I am very picky about salons due to my hair "situation": I was blessed with really thick curly hair.
I went to see Elena a few years back after one of my friends gave her rave reviews. She did not disappoint! She gave me a cut that is versatile enough to look great curly or blown out straight.
And, for the curly haired gals who like to go incognito with straight do: Elena got me back into blowing it out with a round brush rather than frying it to death with a flat iron. It looks a million times better and comes with the wash, cut and dry. -

First of all, I have been seeing Julie E. for over 7 years and moved away to Barcelona, Spain for the last 10 months. Well, my hair could not have looked and felt worse. When I arrived in SF, she gave me a soft and sexy haircut that I felt like a queen again. The highlights were another story. My dark roots were so bad, that she used a gentle peroxide that would not make my hair look more damaged, but healthy and shiny. Thank you Julie for having an understanding of not
only my thrashed hair, but the expertise to skillfully and a gentler approach to make my hair look and feel healthy again. -

Arthur not only gave me a fantastic cut, he gave me a thorough consultation, helping me decide how to go from super-long to short hair. I've gone to him several times over the years, and each time I marvel at how precise he is. He knows vintage styles, so he's great at creating iconic looks with sophisticated style. It's very appropriate that he works in Pacific Heights--I left the salon feeling very chic.
The salon itself had a very pleasant environment. I loved that it was on the 2nd floor with giant, open windows. All the staff was really nice, and they seemed to get along well. Street parking ended up being surprisingly easy, and I noticed there's a lot across the street. -

This salon is super cute and the ladies at the front desk are extremely nice! I highly recommend Sara Perry! She is amazing with highlights and does a great job with color as well. She gets super close to the roots and does it in a way that grow out isn't super obvious. I've been asked right before I've gone in if I had just had it done... It had been more than six weeks and I had brown hair with caramel/blonde highlights. I switched back to all brown about a month ago and the color is still rich with the blonde highlights just now starting to come through a bit.
I have wavy, thick, long hair that has been a difficult task for many hair dressers to cut, but Sara has managed to tame the beast. She really listens to what you want and makes it happen. I've been to many places before here, and she is the only one I am comfortable going to now. I've been a happy client for about 5 months, and won't be going anywhere else.
My ONLY downside is that it's a little pricey for me, but I've been very happy with the outcome each time so I only shed one tear now when I fork over the cash. ;) -

I can't believe that I haven't written a review for Sarah Ryan sooner. I've been going to see her for a few years now, and I recommend her to everyone I know. I made the mistake of going somewhere else once when I was in a pinch, and I will never get my hair cut anywhere else as long as she's still around!
Sarah understands what works for your hair, and always has tips and tricks for keeping you looking your best. I always look forward to spending an hour with her! I have seriously never been happier with a stylist in my life, and I cannot rave enough about how awesome she! -

Glenda is amazing! I've been going to her for over 5 years - she did my hair for my wedding, and even helped me with my vows ;). Every time I go to her, I can count on her to do her magic. I have no vision when it comes to my hair - I just tell her to do her thing, and she always exceeds my expectations. The best part is that my hair always grows out well (you know when you get a hair cut that isn't bad, and for the next few months it just looks horrible? This never happens with her).
I can't recommend her more highly! -

WOW. Just wow.
I went in today with high hopes since there are so many great reviews on here, but was a little skeptical.
I have always wanted an A-line bob (shorter in the back, longer in the front) but stylists usually tell me that because I have naturally curly hair it wont work for me.. So I've never really gotten the cut I wanted...
Well, Sara showed them!
I just went & saw her & I absolutely LOVE my new haircut!
She was incredibly precise & detail oriented. She cut my hair wet first, then blew it out until it was smooth & then flat ironed it until it was perfectly straight & added Bumble&Bumble shine spray (which I decided I had to buy for myself) & then cut it dry for what seemed like forever while she trimmed, thinned out & shaped it. But the finished product, was well worth the wait.
I just posted a pic to my facebook about 15min ago & already have almost 20 comments from friends who love it almost as much as I do! :)
$75 is a little high, but totally worth it in this case. -

PROS:
Good location and a nice open space with lots of light.
CONS:
Everything else. How are so many people giving Acabello 5 stars?! I used them to do hair for the ladies in my bridal party at my wedding and nobody in my bridal party was impressed with Acabello.
Bad experience-
I went to Sara for my trial. When it was time to pay, she said she only took cash... now, why didn't she tell me that over the phone when I made the appointment?? I had to sit there and wait while my fiance ran over to the bank to pull cash out. Thank goodness he was there to help me out! Sara did an okay job on my hair trial, but it was nothing fabulous. Since I didn't have time to find a new stylist for my wedding, I decided to go ahead and do my own hair instead. A bridesmaid cancelled the appointment for me, but kept the appointments for all the other girls.
I guess Sara didn't get the message, because on the day of my wedding, she called me up to yell at me for not showing up to my appointment. Wait... really?! Did she really call to yell at me on the day of my wedding?? Yes. She really did.
Apparently someone at the salon made my sister (maid of honor) cry. I heard they treated my bridesmaids very badly. Anyway, I was getting my makeup done at the hotel while the girls were at the salon. When they came back, the hair didn't even have a similar look or theme. It was a mess.
VERDICT:
I would never recommend this salon to anyone. The staff is not talented and they're just too damn rude. Terrible.Listed in: San Francisco- Fillmore…, Wedding Vendors
