I feel so ashamed when I come out. I used to go here when I was 18, but haven't bothered and definately don't ever want to step into Abyss on Saturdays. It's like..fob central.
Half naked blonde asian girls who don't know how to dance, and asian ganstas wearing a button up and designer jeans watching those girls who don't know how to dance.
What a waste, it's such a nice venue.

been there once. maybe i'd go again but i'm not jumping at the chance.
i went to a 21 event, lots and lots of asians because the company hosting markets to a lot of asians. i didn't really notice that people are too ghetto or anything.
the club itself looks pretty because of the lighting and decor.
bar is huge
the place was wayyy too packed when i went so there wasn't room to dance. no seating unless you are "vip". so girls if your feet hurt. SUCK IT UP. there's nowhere to sit there.
Ummm I'm not sure what to say.. I was kind of dragged here one night..
this place was... "OK"
The bartneders where ontop of it.. I really liked that..
My only complaint is I like diversity ... and there was none of that..
NO BUENO.
This venue seems to host a lot of 18+ events, so you end up with lots of under-aged and immature boppers at this club.
Each time I've been here some sort of fight always breaks out. G-H-E-T-T-O crowd, overly HYPHY to the point where they step on your pretty little toes when you're just minding your own business and trying to dance.
It happened to me once when "Soldier Boy" came on... Some little wanksta in a tall tee was dancing (well actually it was more like HOPPING) side to side during that "YOUUUUUU" part of the song (ya'll knows what I'm talking bouts) and he stepped on my exposed toes! (I was wearing heels.)
As he made his way back for round two, I mustered all my strength and POWER-PUSHED him away. Haha I caught a glimpse of him stumbling into the crowd, looking around all bewildered, like "What just happened?" Stupid drunk ass. Then I continued getting down with my ladies... and he was none the wiser.
Seriously though. No bueno.

5-STARS for Downelink's FUZ, 2nd & Last Fridays @ Abyss
Quite possibly THE MOST TALENTED dance floor anywhere!
Young (18+?) and (predominantly) gay, the fashion forward crowd here burns up the floor with frenetic, endless movement. And being well attended by throngs of accomplished dancers (representing some of the best dance crews around), you are guaranteed to see more than a simple two-step. Keeping pace here is a serious, aerobic workout.
Guest crews perform regularly on stage, showng off new choreography to some of the latest tracks/remixes, much to raucous support and cheers from friends and fans!
Even with no real dress code, the legion of hip people here is trendy/cutting edge; kicks of all sorts, skinny jeans, caps, scarves, etc, etc... stylish at every angle
Beautiful people, strong drinks, dope beats, tight dance moves?
Yeah, you know where to find me...

Okay.
This club really just blew. I'm sorry.
We went here tonight because we wanted to do Club Papi because it was doing a South Bay location. I had gone here once before, didn't remember it but after this time - I'm going go ahead and say never again.
The space was not crowded. I'm going to go on my instinct and say that the club is owned by a Vietnamese person with all the cheap decorations, lighting and abundance on bonsai trees everywhere. I'm not hating on the fact that it's owned by a Vietnamese person, because I am myself - but really, you don't need to mix my vodka under cheap decorations. That's really just fucking annoying.
Club Papi tonight was especially annoying because the $15 cover ended up being ridiculous. The sign said first 500 people get CD's with admission and I ended up getting one at midnight.
What the heck, the club didn't fill up yet at midnight? I was worried when I was at the ticket booth. But inside, the space is amazing - but the Papi party really blew. And to boot, the drag-a-licious performer kept using her voice to sing along abruptly to the tunes.
I wish you didn't have 4 minutes, I wish you had none - queen.
I wouldn't come here again.
As Danity Kane would say, this place is "damaged" and too bad they didn't think to let me know.
No wonder they call it the Abyss, I really felt that kiss of death tonight.
By the way, a kind note to the owner - in no shape way or form is it acceptable to use the same people that decorate the windows of downtown with squiggly cursive writing with the paint to decorate the same windows of yours. That just makes me think you are a lame taqueria.

ewww.....18+ crowd...annoying! So rambunctious and girls are dressed WAY too slutty. Not the crowd that I would ever want to be hanging around with. Guys that are over 21+ try to buy girls that are 18+ drinks in which they can't buy for themselves. Cover charge?! Omg! For this place?! I mean...I shouldn't have to finish the rest of my review. You get the idea.
Abyss is exactly what it's name implies: a bottomless cavity of shit.
Whack young ass crowd. Whack venue. Whack staff.
There are better clubs in third world countries.

Ok let me start things off by saying this is one of the worst clubs I have ever been too. The one thing i hate about clubs are how they always stall up the line so we have to pay cover charge. I find that to be very ridiculous and shows how they are not credible to us customers proving their websites of guestlist are fake and they only want to profit.
I even got high with my friend...yes on drugs.. to have fun... and found out how disaapointed the club was. I ask the security guard if it is popiing? hes like yes it is, what a liar. The venue is really nice. Alot of hyphy guys on the dance floor. Alot of girls just standing around watching. And when the girls do dance all the guys surround them so the girls get scared and leave. so i guess girls go to clubs to not meet guys.....haha whats the point of a club anyway? to dance! and have fun.
Overall, i rather just wait till I am 21 in 4 months?! yeee and go to a real club where everyone is dancing.
No likey.
I've only been here twice. Once when I was 16 (at an 18 and under event..you can imagine how lame it was) and once when I was 20. The first time was, eh, okay. I was bored most of the time, but I blame that on coming with the wrong group. I got to dance with a guy who liked to reach down my pants and tug on my undies. That was fab.
Years later I return because my friends want to go. The bouncer decides he doesn't want to believe the ID I showed him was mine. Pretty insulting if you ask me, cause I was 20 at the time, so he must've thought I looked younger than 18. He pulled me out of line and made me do a signature check. Seriously? There is NO ONE in your line. You let my friends in who look like they're still in middle school. And that IS my ID. Come on.
Oh, not to mention the joyous interruption of guys loitering around the club butting into our pictures.

Was here a few weeks ago. First time here. I like how they had seperate floors for the 21+ . Good music and crowd............
Came here for Luxy's Black Ball on a Saturday. It was pretty fobbed out. I'm asian and I have a few fobby friends but a little diversity wouldn't hurt.
Drinks were $10 each. Shots were nice and big, mixed drinks medium sized...and comes in a plastic cup.
Lines were ridiculously long for a club like this but I got to line cut since it was my bday...saved some other friends that got kicked to the back of the line. That was cool. But I get in and am absolutely mortified by the emptiness at 10:40. Hello geniuses, if you'd let people in in groups instead of making us dawdle in one by one it'd be packed already. The point of making money isn't to make the street packed where we can't blow hundreds at the bar.
Music was good.
Place is ghetto looking.
VIP tables don't look anything like on their website. They were ghetto.
$20 if you get in after guest list closes..for a sunnyvale place are u serious?!
Ventilation gets pretty bad toward the end of the night
Wait to get in is ridiculous: they pat you down, use detectors on you, look through your purse, then make you wait with another guy to let you in one by one
They kicked my bf out for going outside even though he wanted to get right back in
Luckily I had an okay time with my friends there anyway...but it was the people, not the venue that made my night. But I remember through my blur of a night that I wished we were all elsewhere. Next time, it'll be back to SF or at LEAST downtown SJ.
Spatious, nicely decorated. We came on a Saturday night for a multi-birthday Asian event. They didn't allow sneakers nor hats, and they required tucked in shirts. It was very crowded, but surprisingly wasn't hot for the amount of people in there. The music was pretty good, but there weren't enough bartenders behind the bars. Overall, it was a positive step up from the AzN clubs in dtsj, but still not really my personal preference for night life scenes.

No, no, no, I do not like this place.
I've been twice and thats because I've never had to pay a cover. If prompted I would have just turned around and went somewhere else. Whether its the promoters throwing the event or the venue itself, this place just has no vibe at all. Its totally dead.
I've never gotten felt up by security that much. The lady fondled me so badly she got a real feel for the wires inside my bra. There's nothing about me that prompts that kind of a search, its totally unnecessary, but I guess the place is used to ghetto ass disturbances so do what they must--I guess. RED FLAG.

If you are 21+ then go to a 21+ club. it was cool when i was 18 and could not get in anywhere else. But now these days it seems like little kids will try to step up to you when you are not even doing anything just to look tough infront of there friends. Bar all the way up top very small you have to "ONG BAK" people just go get infront of the bartender then the bartender has to see you. I suggest if you really want to go there then pre drink in the parking lot. And dont get caught up by the 5-0

I've been here twice once for an event hosted by U.T.I. and Prolific "Masquerade Ball", and the second time on a random Friday which they call Havoc Fridays. Both times were seriously WHACK!
The bouncers are a pain in the ass, in particular their main bouncer (I don't know his name) after waiting in line we would of made it on time to get on the guest-list, but he told my friend he couldn't come in with his baseball cap. So, he had to go to the car and we missed the guest-list by 8 minutes! Not only that two guys that had baseball caps were able to go in and I guess they were v.i.p.
This is a general statement but the guys are like that chihuahua toy that humps vigorously. So, if you want to go and let some sexual tension out come here. Because I'll give the benefit of the doubt that they at least have good music. I don't know how the 21+ room is like, but my friend said it was hella chill because of the live band.
Overall, this place is over-crowded and I came out feeling so dirty. You can barely dance because there are so many people bumping and grinding.
The next time I do decide to come here, I will definitely just try Fuse - the gay night, because I heard it is way more cracking!
p.s. I don't know how other clubs are, but both times I went to Abyss I saw two fights. It's like these boppers come to try and put this tough facade and "prove themselves" to other people. But, we don't care. Idiots.
"Oooh baby, back dat A$$ UP!!!"
"Holla, baby girl!"
"Sup, sweet thang, want me to pimp your ride? *thrusts hip*"
................
This is some ghetto shit. If I wanted to go to a low-class club and get hit on by a bunch of hungry-eyed creeps, I would've just come in nothing but lingerie. I have passed by this place, I never went here *THANK GOD* but my friend did...
Man.. there's hella slutty asians here, very typical kinda ...only-word-I-can-think-of-is-ghetto crowd, and this place is very much like Club NV in San Francisco (read my review) except this time, it makes Club NV look like they have far more class than this place ever will.
Expensive cover, I hear. Girls were all up on my friend and, since he just came here from Hong Kong, he doesn't know why girls hump his "junk", and thought everybody dances lieke that.. so he let it go -_- COME ON. Dancing like you're attempting to have public sex like it's just a normal thing is NOT NORMAL.
And dress code?? What, wear the sluttiest clothes you can find, and for guys--"pop the collar"? Ew... sorry, not my thing.
If you people actually think this is a fun club to go to, well.. you need brain surgery... so you can come back to your senses.. if you even have any.

I came during Fuze that comes every other Friday. Which is 18 & over for LGBT.
I got a little pissed when I put myself on the guest list. I looked at my email confirmation and it said to print and bring to the club. I came early and the security guard didn't accept the paper I printed which came solely from the website! So the guest list in the website is all Bullshit. Even though I paid the entrance fee I had so much fun inside.
For young gay and lesbian Asians around the 408, you can find many people here. Bar upstairs was spacious like I was in VIP. I especially enjoyed the Hip Hop dance performance on stage. Parking was easy to find. They also sold bottles of Gatorade and water for 3 dollars. There was a small table that offered free condoms and lollipops. Since it was gay and Lesbian night it's hyper-masculine and sexual bigotry free. So no thugs and fights. Just dancing and enjoying the night.
Once again Alex and I gogo'd here. Last minute decision for me as well.
Its spacious here but it got really crowded! So it was a great party. Theres a 21 + lounge elevated with windows everywhere to overlook the party going on downstairs. We had great music, Nice bouncers, creepy dressing room.
We had a lot of wierdos there that night, had to throw out one by his neck. It was quite amusing.
Underworld really does know how to throw a party!

This place used to be the spot. After being renamed about fifty times, everybody I know who still remembers how it used to be calls it the forum. Everytime I come here, its always different. Sometimes it attracts the "hyphy" crowd (which i cannot stand) other times it'll be all asians. Security varies as well, they'll be super strict about dress code on some nights, other nights I can get in with a white tee and jeans.
Alot of the younger crowds tend to come down here because theres not much to do for the 18+ in San Jose, so thats also a negative IMO. it's not a bad place to go out, and if its free cover i don't mind. but i wouldn't pay to come in here.
UPDATE: The woman is a bish, she even stopped me from doing outreach on 18+ nights at the FUZ cuz the "neighbors complained about condom packages on the street". BS!!! I give this place negative stars if it was possible. How the F am i suppose to do my freakin job?!?!
OLD REVIEW: I do health outreach here every second Friday on Downelink nights.
Usually I have fun and it's great to be there. But during a Rock Your Awareness event about month ago, the owner was a betche cont (um missspelled it on purpose BTW) yelling at us for trying to give condoms and testing info on HIV/AIDs to the young clubbers (BTW it's state law that anyone over the age of 12 can receive condoms and info, they were all over 14 and up). How stupid is that? Why the hell can't you do prevention outreach at an outreach event? The youth she harassed wrote up a report on her abuse.
Of course, she is all about the money...rawr
Bathrooms are always a mess too.

Dreamscape...an Asian event.
I thought it was a popular event where it would be pact..but was I wrong! We got there by 10:15pm and got in fast. $2 shots till 11pm so my friends and I were drinking up. You got to like this event for the $2 shots...any drinks...which includes henny, red label, beer...you got it hahaha.
The DJ was good. Played a lot of the current hip hop songs. My friends and I were having a blast despite that the crowd on the dance floor was small. A lot of Asians, but what do you expect? It was Asian night.
Thus, I came here other times and it wasn't as pack at all. No one really dances on the floor. I mean why come to a club to look at other people dancing? !? ! I would definitely come back, but not worth paying $15 to get in. Get on the guestlist and don't have high expectations.
Positives: line moves fast, uncrowded dance floor (main), a lot of couch seating, short bathroom lines (girls), nice interior, 3rd floor room where you can talk to someone in private or a place to chill.
Negatives: expensive shots: $10, 2nd floor DJ sucked or no DJ with repeating loop songs, bouncers pointing flashlights at you, security booting everyone out of the club at 2am...escorts you out on the sidewalk all the way to the parking lot and stays there until everyone leaves...ugh ok
I liked it. I've been here a couple times and it was koo and my friend had his bday here. Of course I was drinking each time I come here thou. damn this reminds me of vietnam town thou cuz its only vietnamese go here. Only go here 21 up night dont go here 18 up. Freaken bopper hyphy city.
Hi Tracy (^_^)
I'm a DJ, and I've DJed at this club. I want to let people know that when writing a review, we should review the CLUB and not the EVENT. Clubs are just a place, where different companies come to host their events. If you had a bad clubbing experience, its not the CLUB its actually the company. Abyss does have their $2 Dollar Tuesdays and their little events here and there, but for the most part they host events for clubbing companies. This club, over all is decent. Its spacious and the sound isn't too shabby. Their turntables suck but we can't do much about that. If we get this place packed, its nice because there IS still room to move around function. Their bathrooms are rather big and the 21+ section isn't too bad. If you guys want a good time, make sure you know who is throwing the event because guarantee if you do the right research and find the right event that suits your taste, you will have a good time.

if you think this is remotely a decent place to go clubbing...i think you were probably drunk. i can't stand the Asians here. i can't stand the crowd, basically. this place is horrible. i don't know what the 21+ nights are like but i'll give it the benefit of the doubt. the only time i remember having fun here was the fuse night. the gay clubbing night! my close friend is gay and he really wanted to go. i only went with 2 other people and still managed to have fun. you see, going with 2 other people to abyss on a typical friday night would not cut it. you'd need more people than that. being that everyone there grinds on anyone. it's disgusting. so 2 stars for that one gay clubbing night at abyss.

There's hella things to consider in this review. At first I wasn't drunk so I was irritated at the door to find out that even though i'm 21 and I shouldn't have had to pay til 11 and it was 10, i had to pay $15 to get in the door. Which made me hella mad because I wasnt tryin to pay to get into an 18 n over club... which leads me to agree with what hella other people said, these club owners ARE money hungry basturds that lie on their flyers just to get you there. And they DO hold you in line forever just so that you have to pay the cover charge.
But, once I got into the club (night before 4th of july.) it was CRACKiN there were hella people there! Me and my girls had a good ass time... The club was hot as hell because there were so many people there.
The one thing I didn't like though is that when I went upstairs to get my drinks I had to pay $9/each for a Grey Goose/Cran. which was a small ass cup majorly filled with ice.
Either way, I only spent about $33 that night and it was good times.
yadida.

THANK GOD I DID NOT PAY TO GET IN. IF I DiD, I WOULD HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY MAD. MAD ENOUGH TO TYPE MY ENTIRE REVIEW IN CAPS!!
Okay. So 1 star for the cute guy I danced with all night. 1 star for the strong drinks I had. Minus 1 star for the 5 fights (I even saw a girl get decked in the face by a guy!!) and 1 stabbing that took place...Which leaves us at 1 star. Freaking Vietnamese gangsters, you can always expect that type of shit from south bay clubs. That's about it. I think it was also the COLDEST club I have ever been to in my whole entire life. You'd think that dancing and consuming alcohol all night would help keep ya warm but NO! I was freezing all night.
I was here on a saturday night (i don't know which production company was throwing the party) but the dj sucked. He kept repeating music. At least he played Guns N Roses.. But it felt sort of weird dancing to "Sweet Child of Mine" in a club full of fobby du ma Vietnamese people.
I most likely will never go back..
Once again, I must reiterate the fact that I didn't pay to get in. I only had fun dancing with the cute guy...

This review is biased, given my......mental and physical state during my experience at Abyss. But the point is, unless you're on something, it probably won't be a memorable (er...it won't be memorable either way haha) experience. I came here with my best friend for $2 tuesday college night. I'm pretty sure we were the only ones there who actually go to college. My friend was fingered by some guy and the first guy I danced with had his hand in my crotch the whole time. But the last person I danced with was so polite (he actually said "may i have this dance" instead of just appearing suddenly behind you like everybody else) and he tried to actually DANCE with me...as in not just grinding, which I found so adorable. I had fun overall, but as I said, only because of my state of mind ;)
Once the new management took over they've redecorated the venue so I think it's much nicer now. I guess it depeneds on the promoter but I've been to FUZ, which is one of downelink events, and it was pretty fun (well it's all about the people). The restroom was jammed when I was there so that was bad experience; however, everything else was good.

I also went here a few times. I went here on a thursday night and it wasn't cracking..but i also saw when this club was cracking. Its not bad. The dance floor isn't too bad and there are plenty of room. There are a lot of seats but i don't get why a club would have that much.
I have a few friends who promote this club. Git Wit It Entertainment. Some events are pretty crackin', others are pretty sad. The times that I did go, there were only about 2 events that satisfied me. The bathrooms are pretty disgusting.
This place has changed a lot since I had my senior ball there. I still admire the cascading levels architecture. The music is loud and bumping but for some reason it is on repeat and you hear the same songs more than once. I went to an 18-up party since they said that the cast from Laguna Beach and Aubrey from Danity Kane would be there; they did not show up. The drinks are good, especially if you get the bartender who looks like Cassie: she hooked me up with wicked mixes. The Abyss experience is really defined by the crowd that is there and never really has a consistent image in my mind. With that said it is a hit or miss. -Matt

its not my kind of party... REALLY. i don't care if 99.9% of those people there are MY PEOPLE... i don't want any part of it... its like the LIDO for the 18/21+ demographic... like the stepping stone to joining our parents in an inebriated state...
09.01.2007: DJ - you played dozens of jams i knew... HOWEVER, they were from at LEAST two years ago... do they not pay you enough to acquire new vinyl? poor you...
that 2nd star is given out of pity, from the tiniest little corner in my interior designer heart... this place is a great looking venue. REALLY. however, it is WASTED... the crowd here COULD have been diversely filled to the brim with beautiful people... but i only see the same kind of cookie cutter generic looks. the go-go's are lazy... and as scantily clad they were, its no fun watching them dance if they dont shake what their momma's gave em. what a crying shame...
even worse - they corralled the smokers into a tiny pen out in front of the entrance due to some kind of incident there the previous week... dont punish me for those people's stupidity. sheesh.

During the summer the Abyss is crackin every night it's open... especially on Tuesdays and when events occur but now just to catch a descent crowd you have to go on days colleges are off on holiday. Either way Abyss is coo enough for the under 21 crowd and if you don't want to go to the city or that god awfull box ppl call club raw then Abyss is your best bet.
