  Absolutely Flawless is hands-down the best Brazilian I've gotten in Portland. Why? Well, it takes a special person to make me feel comfortable when I'm lying ass-naked on a waxing table. And Ruby has the (dubious) honor of being that special person.
  
  I've been waxed by several other highly rated salons in Portland, but Absolutely Flawless is by far the most professional, least stressful, and friendliest service I've had. And if you're going to pay someone to yank hairs from your lady-bits, don't you want that someone to have a nice personality? I know I do.

  What a great place!  Ruby has this cute space at the top of a victorian house down off of N.W. 23rd.  
  I was a little nervous because I had not got a brazilian in a long time, but right as I met Ruby I immediatly felt comfortable.
  She is very relaxing and has a great enviornment set up.  It was warm, cozy, clean, and calm.
  She was very thorough and pricise with the wax job!  It felt like it went fast, but she did spend a good amount of time making sure it looked good down there.  
  I was very pleased with Ruby, her establishment, and her prices.  I will  indeed go back to her!  
  Hopefully I will get a massage and facial by her soon.

  I was really excited to go see Ruby when I wasn't able to get in at my usual spa. She has such great reviews on Yelp, but unfortunately, you guys let me down.
  
  I thought that her studio was absolutely the cutest place EVER, but I will forever remember it as one of the places where I got the most painful Brazilian wax I've ever received (it's tied between Absolutely Flawless and the Pearl Day Spa in Eugene, OR). I don't know if my skin was in the part of the cycle where it was the most sensitive or if it just didn't respond well to Ruby's technique, but I almost had to stop the session. It was just very painful and I could tell that Ruby was frustrated that I couldn't relax.
  
  To add insult to injury, I received a huge parking ticket for parking in the lot on 23rd Place. I know I wasn't supposed to park there, I don't blame Ruby, and I'm not factoring that frustration into my review. I'm simply including it as a warning to Absolutely Flawless clients and potential clients.
  
  Her studio is an incredibly adorable place to be pampered, but I don't recommend Ruby for your waxing needs.

  To begin this reply, I have to point out to any readers that unfortunately thanks to this one star review, now Yelp is only choosing to show only 4 of my reviews while hiding  15 (yes, 15) 5-star reviews that I have been given by happy customers.  This is because Yelp uses a very unfair algorithm that assumes that since I have so many 5 star reviews and then this 1 star review, I must be cheating by asking my clients to write them or I am writing them myself. I have spoken with many other business owners that are frustrated and experiencing this too. How can a customer get an accurate picture of us? Unfortunately, we are not even allowed to remove our own businesses pages from Yelp as Yelp maintains that since this is the internet, people can say whatever they want. I would not have a problem with this if Yelp was showing all of my reviews instead of having a robot hen peck what is shared.  Of course when you are in business, eventually you will have an unhappy customer.  It's unfortunate that the comments of one person can affect a small business so adversely.
  
  Now to Emily - I always strive for improvement and will take your comments into account. I could have more properly addressed your concerns had they been brought to my attention at the time of your visit.  Unfortunately, since you chose to write this review four months after your visit, it's difficult to properly ascertain what exactly caused such a painful experience for you.
  
  Also, I would be horrified to learn that a client ever felt that I was frustrated with them, so if you felt that way, I apologize. As often mentioned in my reviews, one of my strengths is how comfortable and at ease I make visitors feel. Also, since I am the face of my very small business I try to bend over backwards to make each visit a special one. But again, since this review was written four months after the fact (and surprisingly on a day where you created 24 other reviews), there is no way that I can fairly even defend myself.
  
  That said; there are a number of factors that can make a wax painful including where you are in your menstrual cycle, hair texture, caffeine intake, failure to exfoliate, how much time has passed between waxes, lack of sleep or just general stress/tension. And these factors though seemingly innocuous, can make a huge difference. Brazilian waxing is a highly personal experience and once in a great while a client and her/his waxer just might not have the right connection.
  
  Also, the amount of pain experienced in a wax although important, is but one of many other factors (including cleanliness, safety, thoroughness, etc.) used to rate a Brazilian wax and generally doesn't warrant a 1 star review unless the waxer was being completely negligent or actually being willfully rude to you which i can guarantee would not happen in my studio because I am the only one here.
  
  And a note on parking: Unfortunately parking is the downside of doing business in NW Portland. The lot across the street has multiple signs posted CLEARLY warning against parking there. I really care about my clients and try to do everything I can to save them time and money, so I have always made sure that  it is clearly posted on my website about parking and when clients book an appointment online, they get a confirmation telling them to check the site for parking information before their appointment.
  
  Fortunately I have had many clients who have said just the opposite of your comment - that due to the use of stripless wax and good technique, my waxing is the least painful they have ever experienced. I have many happy clients not only for waxing, but for massage, and for facials as well. Hopefully, people reading this will take into account that this is one poor experience out of many fabulous ones and it is the one and only one-star review I have ever received, including dozens that can be accessed on my website.

  Ruby is the owner of this fantastic new business.  She does a wonderful job of making you feel very comfortable, with whatever service you are receiving.  It's hard to find someone who does a good Brazilian, and she makes the cut! I look forward to trying many of the other services she offers!  Thanks Ruby!!

  I just had to check about Ruby's establishment when I found her most generous offer for a $35 massage (!).  She had great reviews on her Facebook page so I figured it was a sure thing. I was more than impressed with her wonderful little nook atop a Victorian house in NW Portland. Very easy to get to with public transpo. The service was excellent and I can't wait to try her facials. Maybe even her Brazilian!

  Ruby is great.  Works my aches and pains out, has a gentle touch and a pleasant demeanor.  I keep going back and always look out for her specials!
