I found AbleAir-1 on Yelp! (I've given up on Angie's List -every contractor I've hired through them has been HORRID!).

My Air Conditioning went out on Memorial Day. I called the next day (Tuesday) first thing. They said they could have someone out that day. They lost the 5th star as he didn't show up between 3 and 8pm as promised. When I called to find out what time I could expect him, they said it would be close to 9pm as he was out on another call. As it was scorching, I agreed to wait. It would have been nice if THEY had called ME to let me know.

When the repairman showed, he was able to quickly diagnose the problem and make the repair. He was courteous and very professional. And because I mentioned I'd found the company on Yelp!, I received $25 off the repair! The price was very reasonable and the service (once he arrived) was outstanding!

If I have any more problems with my AC or heat pump, I'll definitely be calling AbelAir-1 again.

    Thanks YELP!

My AC went out last night and I needed service ASAP given the expected temperature today.  I called a couple of places that were not able to get here today and then I found Able Air on Yelp.  I called them and they said they could be here today, so I scheduled the service.

Before the technician got here, I had already started looking into the issue myself and figured it was either a bad capacitor or fan motor.  The guy got here earlier than expected (good!), took a quick look since I'd already taken off the covers and quickly said that it was the capacitor (good again, since he was right).

He replaced it, gave me some other tips while he was here, checked my freon pressure and was generally good.  All good stuff so far.

So why the two star rating?

On top of the $89 service call (which was expected and not unusual for a Saturday call), they charged $150 for the repair.  That's for an $8 part and literally a couple of minutes of labor.  I knew I was being taken and even the technician knew the cost was way too high, but I didn't have a choice at that point.  You can't get the capacitor at a local store, so I'd be looking at a few days from now if I wanted to do the job myself.  I think the technician felt bad about having to charge so much and even did a little bit of extra work, like cleaning the filters.

I got a call from Mannix Heating and Cooling shortly after Able Air had left.  I'd called Mannix earlier in the day but they didn't know if they'd be able to make it.  They now had an opening, but it was too late for me.  I asked them how much they would have charged.  They said the service call was the same price, but they would have done the repair for half the price.

Now I know...and knowing is half the battle :)

I had to call these folks out again today when I noticed there was a bunch of water on the garage floor.  At first it was slight enough that I thought it could have been the car's A/C system.  However, I last drove that car yesterday.  Today was a new day and I was driving my other car.

Went out for groceries and came back about an hour or so later.  Now there's even more water and I know it has nothing to do with the car.  6'5" opened up the space where the HVAC unit is located and sure enough, there was a bunch of standing water.  Crap.

Got on the phone and called AbleAir.  Spoke to a gentleman there who received a description of the problem, to which he said said someone at the house would need to be available this afternoon (it was about 2pm when we called).  A half hour later, AbleAir called and said a technician would be by in about 15 minutes.  No shit, huh?  Gawd these people are fast!  Twice now they have been on the money when it comes to quick service responses!!!

David showed up and talked with 6'5" about the problem (I was in the kitchen) and proceeded to fix the problem involving the water back up.  He dried the area, installed a clear pipe of some sort, installed a few gadgets and voila!  I was good to go about an hour later.

I was forewarned that, due to the age of my system (10 years), that it would behoove me to replace it because of the little things that had been happening and that I basically have efficiency that's 10 years old.  We talked about options for replacing my system with a new one and turns out that I can claim a 1,500.00 tax credit if I purchase it by the end of 2010.  David's a pretty thorough guy; I have to hand it to him for going over the brochures with me and explaining the differences between the various systems offered by Trane and why he recommends the one he does for my home.  If it were me, and I'm just being honest, because of the damn heat, I would've handed the brochures over and said, "If you have any questions, give the company a call."  But, being he outstanding professional he is, he stood in my garage, where it was at least 1,000 degrees, and took the time to tell me everything that the new system is capable of doing, including slashing my utility bills because of the improved technology.  Now that is something I can get on board with--less money on bills and more on good food!

I'm really serious and all kidding aside; this company is no joke.  Prices are sooooooooo reasonable and the technicians are fantastic.  If you're having problems with your HVAC system, you won't any more if you give these guys a call.

I am writing this review as a drywall/painting company repairs the damages made by Able Air technicians when they were here attempting to install 2 HVAC systems in my home.

My experience was nothing short of a nightmare.  While Able Air technicians were in my home they put a foot through my ceiling, an entire body came through my ceiling  in a different spot, and in two other spots, drywall was cracked where they stepped on it from in the attic.  And that was not the worst of it!  They also caused 2 major leaks from the attic due to improper installation and carelessness.  In total there was over $4000 worth of damage in drywall, electrical and attic insulation damage.  BUT that is not the worst of it.  The installation was so poorly done, that we have failed Loudoun County inspections TWICE.  The county inspector and other contractors who have come in have warned us that if we turned on our furnace we would have potential fire and carbon monoxide hazards that would be a danger to the lives of people in the home.  We have already spent money to get other companies to come in and fix mistakes on the a/c units, and we now have to spend thousands more to have another contractor come in to fix their mistakes on the heating.

If I didnt have to give them one star, I would have given them zero.  It was a horrible experience!

Our water heater and Heating system failed. Our technician, David, came out to Alexandria, Virgina (VA) was a great guy and knowledgeable. From working on these systems for so long, he almost had a sixth sense about what could be the problem from the symptoms I provided him. He explained everything to me as he fixed the problem. I definitely recommend this company for the Alexandria area.
