Review from Rachel K.
Bailey, CO
II love the Abiquiu Inn and stay here when I can. Even after I had moved to an area about an hour away, I would still stop at the Inn to shop and have lunch or dinner when I was traveling in Abiquiu or to Ghost Ranch.
The rooms at the Inn are extremely comfortable, beautifully decorated and otherwise charmingly appointed with nice amenities. This is an extremely quiet Inn in an extremely quiet area with the only noise often being from wildlife. I have awoken in the middle of the night to the sound of coyotes, often right outside my room.
This is not a hotel, nor an area, for one to stay if one is wanting lots of ACTION - which is why I enjoy going there. It isn't as touristy, gives an intimate feeling and is ideal for the traveler who is wanting quiet reflection or a tucked away, romantic getaway. The location also means that there is no cell phone service. Plan ahead for this and give the hotel's number to family and friends in case of emergency.
I have stayed in both the Plaza Blanca King as well as the Chama casita, both of which I love. The Plaza Blanca is one large room with a lovely gas kiva fireplace, nice bath and TV area. The casita is two rooms with a kitchenette, breakfast table, wood-burning fireplace, sofa and TV. In addition, the casita has no other rooms/buildings behind them and a private, screened patio for which to appreciate the landscape. As another reviewer mentioned, the kitchenette is not ideally suited for preparing large meals though I found it was quite useful for the little things I picked up at the local stores. All of the rooms also have very nice and very comfortable pillow top mattresses.
The restaurant is nice, with lovely ambiance and some very good dishes. Prices may be a little high but this should not be unexpected for an Inn. Service is hit or miss as this is a distance from any larger towns. My only real complaint is that they do not serve alcohol (as they are owned by a some very nice Muslims, according to the staff). They also do not serve pork. If you're wanting an after dinner drink, it's a short distance to Bode's where you can buy wine, beer or coolers and enjoy the ambiance of your room or patio.
Make a point to visit their gift shop as they sell many different goods, mostly from local artisans. They also sell many bed and bath amenities, in addition to the ones which they provide. Prior to to Abiquiu Studio Tour (Columbus Day Weekend), they show different work from the local artists.
The staff has always been extremely friendly and accommodating. The manager is extremely personable and professional. Though the Abiquiu Inn's prices fluctuate a great deal during different seasons and even different days, it is definitely worth your while.Listed in: Worth Your While

Review from Anita D.
Altadena, CA
The place itself is beautiful. However, the running of the place is atrocious, truly atrocious. The food is mediocre at best and there is only a rudimentary choice of wines. The service was very rude and brusque. The worst part was that our room was not touched the following day: no beds made, no baths cleaned, nothing swept or tidied which, for $200 per night is totally unaceptable. The following day at breakfast there was only one person in the dining room, but nevertheless we had to wait for 45 minutes to get a cup of coffee while the 'super-model' shoot team were served and fawned over. If you can't treat the people who are paying without tax breaks well, then you should not be in the business!

Abiquiu, NM
I am happy to say we had a very nice time at the Abiquiu Inn today. I haven't always been a fan, but I can honestly say they are making an effort to improve it and the food is getting better. The management now seems to be taking interest in making long overdue improvements. We have been there about 4 times in the last few months and each visit, it keeps getting better. A few quirks, the new hanging lamps don't match the decor and desperately needs dimmers. A few new servers could learn more about the wines that are now offered. (They now offer Beer and Wine) Our server didn't know how to pronounce "Gruet" and when we ordered it, she looked dumbfounded. We look forward to recommending the Abiqiuiu Inn to our Casita de Chuparosa, guests.

Review from Linda D.
Albuquerque, NM
Nice place, a bit quiet, no background music going on, could stand to have some soothing tunes; very clean - food is good, sometimes a bit under spiced but being a true NM I'm always wanting shock value.
Great gift shop and great place to get local booklets and information.
Great place for a stay, we have stayed in Room 15 always....adobe fireplace, nice kitchenette, great scenary - this room in particular looks out over the bosque area.
Very nice staff, and a nice walking distance to Bode's for quick shopping for your in-room kitchen.
It would be great if the restaurant had beer/wine license. -

I must start with this disclaimer--I do not like touristy places nor do I like to feel like a tourist when I travel. I like to have a headquarters from which to do all things touristy and to get a feel for the area.
Now, as for the Abiquiu Inn, it meets all my requirements. It is quiet, tucked away from the hubub of Santa Fe which is just too touristy for me. The landscape is unbelievable and I can certainly understand why painter Georgia O'Keeffe called this home.
The Inn has regular rooms as well as casitas which is where we stayed. Our unit had two bedrooms, a bath, living area, and kitchen. My only complaint about the unit would be the kitchen which was not well equipped. I like to cook while away and there was little in this place with which to do that. I'm sure they want guests to eat at their cafe which serves outstanding food. We certainly enjoyed many meals there.
The staff is lovely and accommodating. -

The Aquiui Inn is a great place to stay. The rooms are clean, comfortable and well decorated. Its reasonable priced for a hotel of its caliber. The surrounding area is breath taking and we would definitely stay there again.

I stayed in Abiquiu to spend some time at the lake and was a little apprehensive about eating at the Inn, which seemed to also be the only restaurant around (captive audience syndrome). l was pleasantly surprised. The food was not only delicious (the top priority) but presently beautifully and the service was excellent. I had trout almondine which is the best I have had, with a mint/ cucumber soup that was delicious-just enough mint to complement the cucumber. For breakfast I had poached eggs over corn cakes with an excellent red chile sauce and turkey sausage.

Albany, CA
The choices of eateries between Española and Chama is a dicey proposition. The Café at the Abiquiu Inn is the best place that one can walk into, and we can't really talk about the dining room at The Ghost Ranch (only serving overnight guests). The whole upper Chama River basin is wild and agricultural, which looks so good, you want an alternative to fishing for dinner. The broiled trout amandine was flipping fresh and cooked to perfection, and well paired with the field of greens, pistachio and strawberry salad in a chipotle cream vinaigrette. The staff is friendly and attentive without over-doing it.

i came in off the highway and ended up staying two nights here. when i walked in the door, i felt good vibrations...o'keefe books on the shelves, art by local artisans in the gift shop, a kind and accommodating staff...
the rooms are luxuriously simple; i stayed in the 'motel' area and felt like a queen. a great spot for the solo traveler looking for some contemplative, uncomplicated time in abiquiu. very inspiring space!
i ate three meals at the cafe and was pleased. sadly they don't serve wine - that would have made it perfect for me! :) but the food was tasty and the service generally good. i loved the huevos rancheros at breakfast and the mint tea was a great refresher.
i will return, for certain. i'd like to see this place in all seasons. definitely a great place to stay.
