The mac and cheese is killer. I'm from the south and know mac and cheese...and this was some of the best I've had.
Decent beer selection and solid pours on the whiskey. I'll be back next time I'm in the area. -

Yes, this a 5:00 in the morning emergency update/upgrade to 5 stars.
After the fun times me and my ladies had here tonight... well I guess it's last night at this point... I can't not give this place a top shelf rating. The below review still holds true except that tonight the place was pretty packed. It was a fabulous time, free shots, great top 40 hits, good looking and friendly staff, and my fabulous friends.
We will be back, with our dancing shoes and our drinking moods... and that ain't no threat.
PS- on Friday you can buy an open bar package for yourself for $25... uhm, yes, please.Listed in: Beer Me, Betches., Alfresco a Gogo, Fight For Your Right To…, Dance, Dance, Revolution

AUTHORS NOTE: Quotations are meant to imply a sarcastic tone.
WARNING: Excessive use of quotations below.
"There's a line for this place? Are you joking me?!?"
Imagine John Barleycorn and Sound Bar had a poor, illegitimate child...and called it Aberdeen...dance club? sports bar? cocktail lounge? Who knows!
It's actually a really pretty space with a lot of dark wood and gothic-type decoration...but then its ruined by the gigantic flat screen televisions that are mounted on every wall and corner. In the evening the "dj" "spins" the "top 40" from his glowing Mac laptop while a very strange mixture of people hump on the "dance floor" aka the "area people are waiting in line to use the single stall bathroom."
Most of the guys in here reminded me of the Gotti boys - less bling, more hair gel.
The bartenders are incredibly nice and very attractive (they get a star) and the drinks are decent and decently-ish priced but its not worth the faux "scene" -
Review from Matt L.
+1 star for not being Celebrity anymore. 35 cent wings on Sunday? Check. $2 Miller Lite drafts? Check.
Nothing revolutionary going on at this place. It's just a basic bar from what I can tell. I will report back after conducting further surveillance.
Note, I did not actually go here. I just bummed a wing from someone at an outdoor table while walking by. Pretty decent wing. -

Yeah, I'm gonna go ahead and go with 5 stars on the "Deen." It's a pretty small bar with a tiny dance floor - yeah, like everything else on Saturday night. So why am I rating it five?
I have a great time whenever I'm there. It's also the people I hang out with that have a lot to do with it, but set that aside, and I'd still have fun. Even with not so cool friends.
Mixed crowd. Lincoln Park wander-overs, WP hipsters, I noticed lots of different ethnicities too. The DJ rules for the most part. R&B, hip hop, dance, 80's rock. So yeah that sounds the same as a whole bunch of other places, but for me at the ripe old age of 29, he's playing stuff from my 6th grade dance days...and that makes me smile. It seems to make everyone smile at this joint.
Tiffany, my favorite waitress, takes care of us always. And not in a giving-us-free-drinks-or-stealing-from-the-house kind of way. I don't know - the first time my buddy and I were in there while she was working, she was all about us. Ends up introducing us to the owner, the mean looking door dude (who's super nice..AND cool) and making sure this non-drinker always has a full glass of club soda. Too nice.
My regular spot. And my friends all agree. Meet me there - I was there Saturday.Listed in: This is me...out.

After brunch my sister, boyfriend and friend decided to continue our afternoon drinking at this place because they have a Pickle-tini on the menu.
We all got a round of pickle-tini. Tastes kinda like you are drinking the juice from a jar of pickles. Not bad but I think I will stick to my dirty martinis and be just as happy. When we got a second round my friend got a dirty martini- but it appeared that it was made in the same glass or with the same shaker from the pickle drinks because the second drink (the Dirty Martini) tasted like pickle and had one or two pickle seeds in it. We did not send it back because the alcohol in the drink was more important than the pickle juice or olive brine.
So I think this place looks really cool from the outside. Its on a corner and has lots of windows. I actually though it was a high class place and was surprised to find out it was a sport bar.Listed in: I Nothing You

I had a meat explosion in my mouf!
Stumbled into Aberdeen on a quest for dinner and dinner was found! It's a cute bar scene, very modern looking as is everything else on this street. Brown walls, leather booths and classy white chandeliers. But skipping the decor, we head right into the menu.
Typical bar food menu but I found love in the form of their Breakfast Burger. Angus beef burger with applewood smoked bacon and (drumroll...) a frickin' fried egg served on a brioche bun.
I had my first bite and I about creamed myself. The bun was like a buttery croissant. Soft, flaky and light. The meat was quality, bacon cripsy and not greasy and to be honest, the egg should have been sunny-side and that would have made it awesome.
What would have made this a true 5-star experience? Well... having a server who knows something about service. She didn't really know her beers. Forgot to place our order of mac n' cheese (which we ended up cancelling).
I would definitely come here. I have my eyes set on the pear bread pudding. -

I haven't been back to Aberdeen.... Yet. However I will say that one of the owners of Aberdeen is a truly top notch. He contacted me via Yelp Messaging with the following:
"Hey Joe,
I just read your blurb on Yelp about Aberdeen and I would just like to reach out and say that I apologize that you had a bad time. My name is Justin and I am the owner, if you ever choose to give us another chance, just ask for me and I'll pick up your dinner.
Thanks,
Justin"
I want to give him five stars for his client service and devotion to his business. I will definitely give this place a third chance.

Three stars for always being open when I am on the way to get my hair cut and would like to have a nice glass of reisling before I go. And for the bartender remembering me after only the second time I went. And for the decent interior and great people watching from the patio.
I've never eaten here, nor have I been here at night but for a late afternoon cocktail or an afternoon drinking session, I would definitely hit up the Aberdeen again. That UK bartender (Paul?) is so sweet and friendly, that alone is worth the trip. -

Who came up with this name?
Why would you name a bar Aberdeen?
" Let's hit up Celebrity! " = " Cool. "
" Let's hit up Aberdeen! " = " Who the hell is that? "
Huge disappointment for me. You take one of the few bars that play good hip hop and slap a stupid name like Aberdeen on it. -

Aberdeen always plays really rockin' music! Big fan of their D.J. It's a pretty cramped little space so I wouldn't recommend going here if you're easily irritated by small spaces, drink spilling, foot stepping and purse bumping (I hate it when people continually pass through a space and hit my purse. so annoying). Also, it's in bucktown, a cool neighborhood and easy bus ride for me.
One major downside...their bathrooms are the epitome of nastiness. Like the grossest things I've ever stepped into voluntarily. But, when ya gotta go, you gotta go! -

While I'm on the topic of wings...
... Last night was $.35 wing night at Aberdeen. (Turns out their wings are massive. And delicious. Buffalo = perfect heat and flavor.) It was also $3 Heiniken/Amstel/Well Drinks night. It was also Trivia Night.
I fail to see how they could improve on their Wednesday game plan.Listed in: Its a Wing-a-Ding World

Aberdeen is alright. Nothing special, but it's not a bad local. I go here with my neighbor quite often. Here's the scoop:
- the hummus is bland. Not bad, but my mouth doesn't dance.
- they have a good beer selection, more than the usual corner bar (less than the Bucktown/hipster/beer snob bars)
- however, the beer menu is not correct. Ever. They are usually out of whatever I ask for off the menu, but I know that they are redoing it, so one of these days the menu should be up to date.
- they have board games you can play, which is always a nice touch
- prices are moderate
- bartender man is nice. Drinks are what they should be, not too strong, not too light. A strong drink isn't always what I have in mind
- Not a bad place to watch a game by yourself, which I've done here. And that can be tough for a woman. I can sit at the bar here and not have to worry about people/some drunk guy heckling me.
Overall, this place is fine. A nice place to not go crazy, have a drink before dinner, etc. Nothing special, but sometimes that's what I'm looking for. -

Great food, super nice staff. Actually, really great food.
So why 3 stars? The DJ played songs for 10-20 seconds. 30 seconds of Journey, followed by whoop there it is, then Neil diamond, then lady gaga. Are you kidding me?
Get this ass clown out of here and hire DJ One Neyt Stand. Seriously. -
Review from Gail c.
This is a place that for some reason, just doesn't quite work.
The bar is well stocked, with a wide variety of different brews. The bartender there was extremely nice and engaging to my family. Coming back to constantly check on us.
I had the "little bits" Where you can pick three burger types. They are mini burgers I had a cagun burger, merkt burger and a portobello mushroom, with tomato and mozzarella on it (really superb). The food was visibly greasy. I believe they were going for the "butter burger" effect. Fries were the thin, crispy kind served in a large bowl. (Great). My son and I shared a bread pudding. This was indeed big enough for us both. (ok, not terrif)
Not quite sure why I feel that I can't give it more then 3 stars, but in checking with the other reviews of this location I am right in line there. -

I have visited this bar/restaurant a few times now - mostly during the week for dinner and drinks. The staff has always been outstanding... attentive, but not pushy.
The food is excellent - I recommend the hummus plate for starters. Good beer and wine selection ... there are often drink specials during the week. -

Nice Sunday afternoon pints & burgers with a friend. The TVs were on, but not too loud; the bar was halfway full, but not so loud that my friend and I couldn't hear each other. Decent beer list.
Minus: no hot drinks, on a day when I just could not get warm.
Plus: Paul (?) (British accent?), the bartender, after notifying me they had no hot drinks, brought a second candle over to our table for us to warm our hands over, and said he'd turn up the heat a notch. Nice guy! We left feeling roasty toasty and satisfied.
I'll come back - not for the weekend night crowd, but for another chill dinner/pint. Way to go, Aberdeen! -
Review from Cassie D.
OK beer selection. OK food. Pretty average place overall.
Mostly though, it's just not really my scene. Music was so loud that we couldn't carry on a conversation (and this was at 9 PM or so). Bar was full of guys in blue button downs and girls in short shorts and heels. Really felt like being in Lincoln Park. Everyone just looked like they were trying too hard. And that's really the impression I got of the bar as a whole. -

This place was awesome. I went on a mini bar crawl with my friends to determine the location of our double birthday party which will occur in two weekends. Our biggest concern was the size, as it is a smaller bar. But the energy was so great that we are going to overlook it and have our bday party here.
The place was packed (w/ really hot guys!), and the music was amazing. Two really good DJs that got the crowd going. The beer selection is great. They were out of the beer I wanted though, and gave me a beer on the house.
I would agree with the other reviews and say the staff was amazing. The owner was dancing around and making sure the crowd was having fun. the manager was super nice and hung out with us for a while, as well as picked up our drinks. The waitress was also a dear.
The bar was decorated really nice as well. I would say the only downsides are the smallish size and small bar, but the staff and service definitely make up for it. I can't wait to come back here for a meal and I can't wait to have our bday party there!!!! -

Somewhat biased review because I'm acquainted with one of the people that owns this place. It's on that stretch of North that is not near Tavern. +1 for that. It's a nice enough crowd, the drinks aren't stiff, but they're not watered down either. I mean, is this what they call damming with faint praise? I haven't had spectacular experiences here, but it's a nice 2nd or 3rd place of the night to visit.
Take into consideration the fact that I've mostly been here for charity events and the like, and so the atmosphere has been more about mingling with friends and like minded people. I wouldn't know how good a place this is to pick people up. -
Review from Jason P.
We walked in here on the 2nd stop of a bachelor party. We had a good 15 people with us and walking in it wasn't exactly crowded. Actually there were literally only 4 people in the place. Things picked up though shortly after we got there, as I assume people just knew how cool we were and followed us in there.
I wouldn't call this place a sports bar really, but there are a few screens on the walls. The single bathrooms cause for lines to build up.
The crowd is a little out there too. We ran into a bachelorette party there as well as 3 random people in Halloween costumes despite it being a week before Halloween. -
Review from Nicole C.
Trivia night is Wednesday at 8pm! I'm a big fan of pub trivia, and my date and I had a fun time here last week. We didn't win, but we did pretty well considering that we were the only team of two. My only suggestion is that they start limiting the size of the teams -- some teams had up to 15 people!
We shared a hummus platter, which was very good. Hummus, pita bread, carrots, onions, roasted cherry tomatoes, sweet and sour cucumbers, and kalamata olives. Now that I think about it, I believe we ordered chicken to accompany the hummus and didn't receive it, but no big deal. They have $3 drink specials and a chicken wing special on Wednesday nights.
I'm curious about Mike's Taco Truck -- tacos filled with crazy stuff liked mashed potatoes, hummus, etc. -

There are Butterfaces, Butterbodies, and sometimes it's just Butter.
Or maybe we just came on a bad night, iono. Sometimes I can believe it's butter. Or cottage cheese. Or muffin tops.
Not that I'm not guilty of those things myself. I just like to keep those jiggly bits covered.
The inside of this place was definitely bangin though-- young and crowded with the game playing. Service was great. The waitresses actually come to you instead of me having to flag down a bartender. The music is your standard Kiss FM material, but what really stood out were the drinks. MMMmm tequila sunrise and jolly rancher shots. You know it's a good night when the rest of it is a blur. -

New York, NY
Aberdeen is fun if you bring a group of friends. I have yet to be here on a crowded night. The interior is pretty typical, looks like most bars, nothing fratty (thank god), but they serve great drinks and their bar tenders are great.
I've spent some great nights here, but only when I've brought the party with me, not really a place you will find a party. So just depends on what you're looking for. The 2 star rating is just on the venue, I'm a firm believer you can make any party fun based on the people there, not based on the location.
I'd say check it out, just bring a group of friends with you. -

Been to this place twice and that is enough for me. Overpriced drinks, small interior and 1 unisex bathroom with a 30 minute line at all times...no thanks.
I unfortunately have nothing good to say about this place and would say that you would be better off walking a couple more minutes to a different six corners bar. -
Review from Erica H.

I was never at this place when it was Celebrity, so I have nothing to compare it to, but I think its bettter than your average bar. My boyfriend and I stopped in for an early dinner on a Saturday night. It was empty- but considering the location it doesn't really surprise me. They have a pretty extensive beer list (if you are into that). Any place that has Magic Hat on the menu is doing something right in my book!
The food was good- basic sandwiches but with a little twist. I found out from our waitress that the chef also put together menus at Pint and D4, 2 other bars/pubs that we frequent, so I wasn't surprised that I liked it. I recognized a few things on the menu from the other bars.
Overall- it's a decent neighborhood spot for a bite to eat. -
Review from Brian W.
Chicago, IL
Good food, wait, what, really? I was kind of shocked when I went to this place and ordered a BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich, and it was pretty f'in tasty. I wasn't expecting much from the bar formerly known as $$$ Celebrity $$$, so maybe that was part of it. It was also their 1 year anniversary party, so it could always be that they stepped it up a notch for this special occasion. But, until I venture back and try out some more of their menu, I will continue to believe that this place has some pretty good bar grub.
Pros - Awesome Food, Good Music
Cons - Good Music, but turn that shit down a little bit, I can't even hear myself when I'm talking to my friends -

I first visited Aberdeen when it used to be Celebrity and thought the place wasn't that impressive.
I was there again last Saturday and had a great time. They have a wide beer and drink selection with friendly prices (at least as far as Chicago goes).
The DJ on Saturday night was very good. I'm usually not a big fan of hip hop but he put on a very good mix of new and old stuff and kept the part of the crowd that wanted to dance (a few girls) moving. There is also a lot more seating there now as compared to the old Celebrity.
I'll definitely be back. -

I have only ever been here on Sunday afternoons, but it's definitely a good time. I don't know exactly what the price is, but they have a great deal on chicken wings. The Miller Lite girls have been there both times I have gone, so I have gotten a few free Millers too.
They have the NFL package, so you can catch your out of market games. We like to watch the Lions loose every Sunday. -

Meh. I only came here because a friend of mine had started cocktailing here and I stopped in with another girlfriend after a long day of shopping on North.
We headed in for dinner. They were out of pretty much everything on the menu. My friend (the waitress) had to basically tell us what on the menu they actually had, none of which was totally available as was stated on the menu because they were out of so much. We settled on splitting the grilled cheese and a salad (out of the roughly 5 options we actually had). I thought that for the price the grilled cheese (which doesn't look like they have on their menu anymore) would be a little swankier but, alas, just an overpriced grilled cheese with some so-so fries. The salad was supposed to be a spinach salad with red onion, candied walnut, blue cheese, and vinaigrette. They were out of the walnuts and put WAAAAAAY too many onions on. All in all it sucked and I wish we would have gotten a hot dog somewhere.
After dinner we decided to just stay because our friend begged us to stay so she could chat with us during her shift. As we peered around at the crowd that was starting to arrive for Friday night we realized.... THIS IS THE BAR WHERE ALL THE UGLY, DISPLACED, LINCOLN PARK 20-SOMETHINGS COME WHEN THEY REALIZE NO ONE WILL TAKE THEM HOME FROM AN ACTUAL LINCOLN PARK BAR WHERE THERE ARE D-BAGS AND HOT CHICKS A-PLENTY!!!!!!!!!
Yikes! We were sitting by the door and saw a NUMBER of SUPER young looking (i'm talking 19ish), skantily clad girls come in without being carded. All the guys there seemed to know the owner and drink for free. It's basically a place to go if you know the owner, are f-ing the owner (which one of the bartenders is... so i hear), or f-ing one of his free loading friends.
If this bar was in an area with a higher d-bag ratio in the neighborhood I might rate it better (like a 2...) because the apricot beer i was drinking was really yummy but this bar does not deserve the real estate on this strip of North. It's like a bad Lincoln Park bar crash landed in Bucktown...
My friend has since quit (because she couldn't handle the people that go there) therefore I won't ever be back. -

Aberdeen is the bomb, especially Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday when Paulie is there. He's the main reason we keep coming back, even after having moved out of the neighborhood. From the first visit he learned our names (and remembers them each time we show up again), and is a ton of fun to chat with. I'm more of a wine drinker than beer, and he always has a good suggestion (along with a tasting or two, if I'm lucky).
Food-wise it's totally solid pub food, way better than most. The burgers are thick and juicy, and my personal favorite sandwich there, a heaping greasy, vegetarian delight (can't remember the name of it) of buffalo mozzarella, tomatoes, basil, and portabella mushrooms, is totally satisfying. My boyfriend's fave is the Breakfast Burger which takes the standard burger and slaps a fried egg and bacon on top of it. Healthy? Not by a long shot. Delicious? Yes! Beer-wise, try the Unibroue Fin du Monde (my fave) or Maudite (BF's fave).
All in all, it's a great neighborhood joint, perfect for a quiet, chill Sunday evening. Almost makes me wanna move back to Wicker Park... almost. -

My friends and I first went here under the YELP reviews suggesting "hot guys, great music" and "great vibe". Not really interested in any of those things, we went anyway, and were enlightened to know Aberdeen is a solid choice for any night of drinking.
Being right across the street from me helps, and its lustrous exterior has lured me back on many occasions since, most frequently on Sundays for cheap drinks and delicious wings. Friday and Saturday bring in a trixie & chad crowd, but the weekdays and Sunday are home to the neighborhood regulars. Paulie is a good guy, too, and is very attentive to your drinks.
Just come here, you can stop reading reviews. -

I've been to Aberdeen several times and have enjoyed every time. Mind you, it was always for brunch or lunch. They have the greatest sports bar food in Chicago. I said it. It's true. "Pulled pork sliders with Jicama Slaw"?!?! And that's just a start. Pauly the Barkeep keeps the customers happy. And the chef takes his food seriously. Go for brunch, go for lunch...go with a bunch. You won't be dissappointed by the food, the barkeep or the brew selection. (Shout out to Jeng!)

So I get this place at around 10p on a Saturday and it wasn't crowded at all. I picked it based on a few reviews on Yelp. It's was me and a bunch of my friends, we found a table right away. Even as the night went on there was plenty of room to move around without bumping into anyone. Our waitress, Amy, was really cool and super helpful. (Thanks for not charging my card Amy... I wouldn't let those guys hear the end of that!) Well it picked up and the music was really good. Drinks were good and the shots better! I had a great time there celebrating my college graduation. I would definitely go back there. This is coming from a person who would prefer a place had a dance floor packed with people! If you decide to go ask for Amy. I would definitely recommend this place for a nice night out at the bar.

Got there around 8:30 p.m. on a Friday night. Early enough to get a table for a large group.
Only thing I had to eat was the Belgian frites... they were truly great. Had the Horseradish, the Wasabi, and the Garlic Parmesan sauces with them. Very yummy. A friend had the fish tacos and said they were the best he'd had.
As the night went on the place did become packed. The music also got significantly louder making conversation difficult. Lively and generally a friendly (as opposed to stuck up) crowd.
Thumbs up. -

My friend and I walked past and were curious with a new place on North Ave (replaced the old Celebrity locale - but with windows now!). We decided to get dinner somewhere else but stopped in for a drink afterwards. Everyone working was very friendly and poured a great drink. Aberdeen looks to be pretty small (but with possible back room?) with trendy decor and was perfect for a weekday drink. Looks like there are some good weekly specials on both food (has a pretty normal sized bar/small bites menu) and drink so I will defintely be back.

This place is kind of like Cheers (you know, where everybody knows your name?)... except they don't actually know *your* name, they just all know each other's names... because I think this is one of those places where a group of friends open a bar, get all their friends to start coming every weekend, and then hope against hope that this leads to a sustainable client base. From what I can tell, this strategy tends to lasts exactly as long as it takes for all their friends to start going back to all the other bars they used to go to. They seem like nice enough guys, and this place is as good as any to watch a basketball game... but I fear it's not long for North Ave. I'm not getting invested.
