More good experiences at Abell. The head doc, Dr. Mayer is great, he really loves animals and has a lot of experience. Although he's been a vet for a long time, he's also up to date on current and new health information. With some vets it feels like you're bringing your car into the mechanic. They give a look over coldly, then they try to jack up your bill with all sorts of things. But Abell does none of that. Dr. Mayer was able to tell me what the most cost-effective options were and give them to me AS options, with explanations. Dr Mayer cares about animals and you can tell!!! The whole staff is very knowledgeable and caring. He also told me about a new laser they have for surgeries that can stimulate tissue and help wounds or spay and neuters heal faster- I would recommend going her to spay or neuter a dog for a reasonable price, it includes the pain meds and pre-anesthetic bloodwork-- the uber-cheap places don't do that, so beware!! I have no idea why another reviewer thinks Abell is pricey, they are very fair in price, lower priced than most vet clinics on the north side!
I have now been here with 4 dogs, I do have another vet I use, but I will recommend Abell as well. I am the owner of Dynamic Dogs Training and Boarding facility and I have been to a lot of vets over time and with my various pets, at least 5-7 clinics for different routine visits, illness, or surgeries, and Abell is fantastic. I also saw Dr. Singh, and he was very nice, explained things clearly and is very knowledgeable. The front desk staff is very nice, great receptionists, and they have the cutest cat in the world, a Persian, that lives there.1 Previous Review: Show all »

A little pricey but they provide quality care with a personal relationship.
I tried going to PetSmart for an ear infection once.. it was the animal equivalent of Cook County Hospital. Waiting for hours with huge crowds of barking dogs and screaming kids.. NO THANKS. Same thing with low-cost vaccinations at Petco.
One of my dogs is a bit "naughty" and has to be sedated before I bring her in. The people at Abell know about this and treat her very gently. They know my dogs and their quirks and it's really nice having that personal care.
Recently I brought them both for annual vaccinations and an exam. They wanted to perform all these other extra tests that would have cost over $300. I told them there was no way I could afford it and they removed it from my bill no questions asked.
We see Dr. Schoessow and she is so sweet and helpful. Everyone on the staff is super friendly and I always have a fun time when I go there. It's never crowded and always very clean.
The only negative thing about this place is the lack of parking. You have to drive up and down Northwest Highway searching for a spot and then you have to deal with taking you dogs out of the car on a busy street. I wish they would have purchased some of the vacant land nextdoor and made a private parking lot! -

Best vet I've ever been to and with sierra being so sick when she was a young pup I've been to a lot of them. They take great care in making sure Sierra stays as healthy as she can be.
It's a smaller place and the staff always remembers you and your pet. They have a big digital scale in the waiting room so you can see for yourself how much you pet weighs. I've never had to wait more than 20 minutes or so to be seen by the vet. The examination rooms are super clean and the two vets I've seen have tried their best to make Sierra as comfortable as she can be. The price is at least 50 dollars cheaper for a yearly check up than my last vet.
They also have a program where if you refer someone you will get 20 dollars off your next bill if they come in. The person also gets 20 dollars off their first bill. They'll even clip your pet's nails for free if you ask nicely. All in all a great place to bring your pet! -

I brought my two cats here for a wellness check up recently. I had to re-home them, and wanted to be sure they were all up to date on their shots, and be able to hand them off to their new owners in good health.
I was very impressed by the entire staff here, particularly Dr. Schoessow. She was so kind, and understanding of my situation, and helped me prepare them for the transition with great service and great advice. I was supposed to bring both cats in at once, but was unable to wrangle one into his carrier - no problem! I was told to just come back with him anytime later that day when I was able to.
I brought one back a few days later for teeth cleaning, and they were great about calling me throughout the procedure, to ask permissions and give me updates. They were gentle and loving towards the animals, and great about following up after their care. -

No complaints. They are not fanatical doctors that put pets ahead of people. A healthy balance between the two. The staff and doctors are friendly and their prices are reasonable.

I have used this animal hospital years ago, I don't have my cat anymore because she got very sick and we had to put her to sleep... All the years I had been going there, they were very nice and took good care of my cat. they will even take care of your pet if you go on vacation.. Highly recommended

I recently just rescued three baby kittens from a grocery store parking lot. They are the cutest, sweetest little pieces of joy in the whole wide world. Unfortunately they not only filled our home with love, but also fleas. Now I've had cats and dogs all my life, and am very lucky to say that I have never had a flea problem, until now. When I realized what was on my little bundles of joy, I freaked out. Abell helped me and put me at ease. They answered all my questions and sent me home with plenty of stuff to help out my little ones. Plus it's nice to go somewhere that offers free kitten (or puppy) checks. Unlike some other places that charge you an arm and a leg just to look at your cat. I'm so happy with the service I got there. Thanks Abell.

My Viszla, Rocky, has many skin allergy problems, including constant ear infections for over a year. He managed to scratch a deep gash on the lower part of his ear that bled constantly. My vet told me that stitches would not hold and he would have to cut off the bottom portion of Rocky's ear with no guarantee that would even solve the problem. The poor dog was getting nutty from the constant itching and flopped his head back and forth splattering tiny drops of blood all over the walls of my house- a real mess.
A friend suggested that I take him to Abell. Despite the inconvenience of a longer drive, I decided to take him there. The staff was attentive, friendly, and highly professional. Dr. Mayer opted to put a few stitches in my dog's ear, and Rocky needed to be under anesthetic for the procedure. He is a rather high strung dog and everyone at the office was very sensitive to his needs and my own nervousness about the procedure. The result was amazing. Due to the thorough care Rocky received his ear is perfect and he no longer gets ear infections. I have changed vets and been extremely happy with everyone at Abell- a great place where the people are really dedicated to giving the best of care.
