Review from Jason G.
Yelp needs 1/2 stars because i'd give it 4 1/2. It's too good to just give it 4 so that is why I must drop the 5 star general on this review,
I love classing it up at this place on the reg. The decor is cool, the service is great and the food is even better. The one draw back is the ambiance is made up of nothing but old decrepit millionaires and their 30-something escorts. Not that looking at some cute girls off the boat from Thailand is so bad, but this place is packed with nothing but people who should be at home watching Cocoon.
Now, the food is awesome. Big fan of the appetizers. Shrimp cocktail, french onion soup, crab cakes are all winners. Bone-in rib-eye, porterhouse, strip, filet are all good. The meat is aged well. Now, many people are afraid to throw sauce on a steak and I get the whole "a good steak doesn't need sauce" argument.
Fact is Abe's steak sauce is one of the best around. The desserts are good too but chances are you won't have much room if you do Abe's right. Not the most exciting steakhouse, but my personal favorite. NY Prime might be giving it a run for its money but no other steakhouse in Boca really compares when it comes to service, food and value. -

I try to frequent Abe's whenever the opportunity presents itself. In my opinion its the best steakhouse in the Boca area. NY Prime and Chop's Lobster Bar are great options as well but I think the service and food is better at Abe's.
The bread basket is brought to the table upon being seated. I am big on bread and I feel it is a great indicator of whats to come. That being said I think that the bread at Abe's is lackluster. If they didnt put butter on the table with the bread I would probably skip it all together.
Appetizers- The crab cakes and shrimp cocktail are good but nothing differentiates it from other restaurants. I usually pass on appetizers unless I feel the need to class it up even more and let the waiter know who the top gun in the restaurant is on that given night.
Steak- The 24oz bone in ribeye is the way to go. The quality of the steak along with the price, compared to other top steakhouses, is second to none. This is one of the few places that i could say perfects the art of cooking steak. The cuts never disappoint and that warm pink center you see after the first cut is like seeing a Picasso for the first time, perfect.
Sides- The mash potatoes, brocolli, and mac and cheese are items I usually order. I like each one but I have had much better at other steakhouses. The restaurants sides are similar to the appetizers. Your not missing out if you choose to to order steak.
Desserts- They have the right idea in terms of desserts but it is not executed to perfection. The chocolate cake is good and huge. But its to heavy for my liking especially after eaten a 24oz steak. I rather have a smooth and light chocolate cake. The creme brulee is a good way to cap the night off but how many places can you say has a bad brulee? I love souffles and I get really excited to see it on the menu. Not many restaurants have it on the menu, souffle not molten cake, and not many restaurant's can pull it off. Abe's doesn't pull it off. Right concept but its to dense on the inside and it should be served with chocolate sauce and not raspberry.
Places better than: NY Prime, Chop's Lobster Bar, Mortons, Capital Grille, Ruth Chris
Places not better than: No where in Boca.
I give Abe's 4.5 stars because from top to bottom there's holes in the lineup. None the less its a must go to. -
Review from Stuart S.
Very Good. That about sums it up for me. Not the best, but not bad either. My favorite part was the ambiance of the restaurant. Great style and layout. When you go to the bathroom look to the right for a view into the kitchen and you will likely see a huge stack of delicious steaks. They also have a great "private" room. I put "private" in quotes because the walls are glass and anyone can see in, but it still is your own dining room. There is a great reprint of a Renoir painting in this room as well as many other reprints of fine art throughout.
Started with some soup. I tried the French onion soup and the clam chowder. The chowder was supposed to be award winning and while it was definitely very good, I'm not sure if it would be winning any awards. I'm not typically a French soup connoisseur, but it was very tasty and didn't taste like a typical French onion soup. The Caesar salad was good, but lacked enough dressing and anchovies. There was a good salad with nuts, apples and a vinaigrette dressing that was pretty good.
For the main course I had a steak because well, you don't come here to get the fish. The fish may have been great, but this is a steak restaurant and so that is what I ordered. I had the filet mignon and it was very good. I appreciate that the restaurant takes pride in how the steak is cooked. The menu specifically describes to the novice steak-eater what to expect from rare, medium, etc. Then when the steaks were brought out the waiter asked everyone to cut into them to be sure they were happy with the inside color. -

Is it possible or even fair to compare one steak house to another? Is it philosophically legitimate or even politically correct. Does it matter? Do you care?
It's time for the Battle of the Rib Eyes! In the Northeastern corner (of Park and 27th), wearing Prada, is Primehouse - undisputed champion of its corner and a never-say-die contenda for the "Best Steak Ever" competition. In the Southeastern corner, wearing Tommy Bahama, is Abe & Louie's (credit for the correct use of the apostrophe), one of Boca Raton's highly-rated meat joints and bad boy of the famous Boston mother ship.
First a little backstory: you may remember from my Primehouse review (if not, you can read it here on Yelp) that I thought the Rib Eye they served up compared poorly with Chez Costco. My wife's birthday yesterday was a good opportunity to sample Abe and Louie's Rib Eye and compare the two. What could be fairer to both restaurants than to compare directly the exact same cut, ordered the same way, and served with the same sides of Bearnaise and Creamed Spinach. Same weight class, same age class, same stats. Eleven three-minute rounds and no serving below the belt.
But first, the wine. Our waiter, Rob, was very attentive but must have thought we were Palm Beach County arrivistes because he suggested some $49 Cab that was "fruity." Uh, Rob... Fruity in a steak house? I know, it was a test; your little joke. Because I like a substantial red wine with red meat, I ended up ordering a nice $85 bottle of 2006 Maracarini Barolo La Serra, rated 91 by both Wine Spectator and Robert Parker. After decanting, it was quite good and added to the pleasure of the meal.
The preliminary bout of this food fight was the Lettuce Wedge with Thousand Island dressing. This was simple but excellent. The 1,000 Island dressing was a delight and the tomatoes were almost flavorful, although a bit grainy - the sign of a tomato picked before its time.
But the Rib Eye took the night. It was very flavorful, cooked to perfection, every bite tender and yummy and great with the Bearnaise (could have been a little hotter, but why complain?) My wife had the strip with peppercorn sauce and it was also first rate. We ended taking home our left-overs which we will enjoy putting in the garbage tomorrow.
Dessert was, for my wife, a nice spirited lemon sorbet and for me, house-made Key Lime Pie. The pie was serviceable, but not as good as you can get on Marathon Key.
We had requested a booth, and were given one, although it was a booth with a half-moon seat and table which proved to be a bit small for the food we ordered. Instead of sitting opposite my wife, I was next to her - a position usually reserved for supine activities, but we were happy with the relative quiet of our side of the wood-paneled and pleasant room.
All in all, a pleasant evening out - good wine, good food, good companion, good time. Thank you Abe, for showing me what a real good Rib Eye could be. -

Enjoyed a fantastic steak dinner and was thoroughly impressed with everything. The service was stellar, and the steaks are cooked to perfection. I must also note that I really appreciated the flawless gin martini prior to my dining feast. The steaks are a minimum of 10 oz. (which would be the filet). Sides are definitely enough to share between four people. It's a bit on the loud side but not impossible to have a conversation while dining. Wines are excellent and if you have room for dessert, the sundae is divine. Tip: do not fill up on bread! Pace yourself, you will want to enjoy every bite of your meal!

A ok even after having explosive diarrhea for a week after eating here. I have narrowed it down to either the blue cheese on the salad or the creamed spinach or the bone in filet. May I preface w the fact these were all very tasty and delicious at the time of consumption. however not so pleasant being woken up with horrendous stomach pains at 2am. I digress. service, vino, food all on point. except whatever the hell got me sick.

I first went to Abe and Louie's in Boston and I love their happy hour. Dirty martins...they make the best! Bone in filet is also great. Been to boca for brunch and food was delish and service is the best you can get. Highly recommended.

Boca Raton, FL
I was expecting a lot based on the reviews but was very disappointed. This seems to be a nice place if your in your 70s and lost a few taste buds. The place is crowded and noisy and the food is simply average at best. I had the ribeye and it was no better than a steak I barbecue from Publix. The waiter was robotic and actually sat in my mashed potatoes while taking care of the table next to me. This is a way overpriced and underwhelming steakhouse. Go somewhere else.

Review from Tracy A.
Abe & Louie's is battling for a place amongst the steak and seafood upscale joints in Boca such as Capitol Grille, Morton's and Truluck's. They're doing a fine job apparently because the parking lot is always crammed during dining hours. To start, the stone crab claws are gigantic. Save a trip to Miami and get 'em here when they're in season. The shrimp cocktail is also a good choice.
This time I had the lobster macaroni and cheese. Divine. Large chunks of lobster. Creamy cheese. A crisp bread topping. Yum. I'd definitely recommend it if you haven't tried it. For dessert, the apple pie with a slice of cheddar reminded me of home. Sounds strange. But the contrast of the cheese to the apple is wonderful. Of course, you'll need a doggie bag cause you'll never finish all this food.
The servers were attentive and knowledgeable. The decor is very "steakhouse" and I love me a banquette booth. The only odd thing and possible drawback is the ladies room. Nice towelettes embossed with the name of restaurant. Fine. L'Occitane verbena soap. Wonderful. A large mirror on the INSIDE door of the stall so I can watch myself hover over le toilet whilst "doing my business"? Gross. I just lost my appetite. -
Review from Brian R.
I've been to every "in" steakhouse in Boca Raton now, and of all of them Abe & Louie's places about fourth on my list behind Ruth's Chris, surprisingly, Truluck's, and Morton's for the best steak. New York Prime is vastly overrated and more of a watering hole for the beautiful people than a bona fide steak joint.
Abe & Louie's seems to be vying with NYP for the beautiful people biz. The atmosphere, and the no-expense-spared paneled wood walls, booths and decor are designed to give it that kind of lift.
It is all in the meat, though, and while Abe & Louie's has one tender filet, and I may be wrong, I detect that slightly sandy taste that meat gets when it has been tenderized a bit. Moreover I found that my meat was an incredibly bland steak.
The service was excellent, and the menu has some nice variety. It was nice to try once. If I'm going for a steak though, I'm probably headed down to Mizner to Ruth's Chris or Trulucks (Yes, a seafood joint can make a good steak.). -

Had such a taste for this place. This was our fourth or so visit and really enjoy coming here.
Dark woods, great big bar area, excellent selection of drinks and their wine list is amazing!! Have had some great bottles here. Was introduced to a Cabernet (Napa Velley) called "2480" whew, big, bold, dark fruits, chewy, long finish, perefct for a great big steak.
Entree:
Saturday night special "Carpetbagger Steak"- Tender filet mignon stuffed with seasoned fresh oysters, wrapped with bacon and broiled, accompanied with mashed potatoes. Excellent choice, good prime beef, moist, cooked perfect, oysters gave it such nice flavor.
Mouth watering delight!
Hubby had the "Prime Double Cut Veal Chop", he said it was fanatstic, did not try, don't like veal but he enjoyed.
Service has always been excellent. Change of scenery from Miami. Do not go early otherwise you dine with seniors.....late at night it is a much younger crowd.
So glad we came again, really enjoy this restaurant.....prices are typical for a great steakhouse.....again wine list is awesome!! -

This was our second time dining at Abe & Louie's. Went for my husbands 40th birthday this past Friday night. We were a party of 6 ...sitting in a round table that overlooks the dining room w/a fantastic atmosphere. We also sat at this table 2 years ago for the celebration of our wedding engagement so I guess it was somewhat special for us. Both dining experiences were exceptional!! Our server this past Friday night was Jason. He was amazing & very knowledgeable of the menu & wine selection. We were there for a few hours & never felt rushed or hurried. Our water glasses, never half full. My husband ordered the bone in rib eye cooked med-rare, wow..it was perfect. I had the tuna seared med. It just melted in my mouth. Cant wait to go back again. Oh yes, & the cheesecake was to die for!!

Honestly, the best steak I've ever eaten was at Abe and Louis! My boyfriend and I try a lot of new top rated steak houses whenever we get the chance. We have yet to find one where that can top a meal from this restaurant. Every item, down to the dessert is simply perfect. Great service, great selection of sauces to dress your steaks with, and a great experience. In the mood for a mouth watering filet? You can find it at here!

New York, NY
My dining companion and I waltzed in without a reservation, despite a fully packed house.
Abe & Louie's is known for their steaks and the decor rings true of a storied New York steak joint. Dark wood paneling throughout, masculine accents and solid furniture sets the mood for some serious carnivorous eats.
I was sacrelig with my order, getting a french onion soup and a ceasar salad. I just wasn't in the mood to hunker down on a huge meal. The soup was one of the best french onions I've ever had. And the ceasar salad came through (note- i ordered a side of anchovies to cut and pepper my salad, which made it infinitely better).
My dining companion ordered a shrimp entree with basmati rice. The garlic herb and pepper sauce was nice.
We were fatties and ordered a keylime pie- which was spot on. For those of you who don't know- if you ever order a keylime pie and it comes out green, send it back. Key lime juice is yellow, and making the pie with other bastard limes should be banned. That being said, our slice of pie was buttery yellow and a nice balance of tart and sweet. The crust was beautiful to boot.
I snuck away to the restroom between dinner and desert, and I have to say I was thoroughly impressed. I've never Yelped about a bathroom before but it was immaculate and reminiscent of a streamlined Louis XIV joint. Gold sinks, black marble and L'occitane hand soap. Score.
I'd recommend this place if you are a high-felutant business person. Or a hungry anemic. All jokes aside, I had a fun, fabulous meal. Be sure to stop by if you're ever in Boca. -

Came here for a business lunch. A lot of people definitely like this place, it was full. Still we were able to get a comfortable table and good service.
They offer colossal stone crabs, which apparently is one of the things that attracts people to this restaurant.
The menu is not really extensive but enough for everyone to find something they like. The portions are huge, a salad could feed at least two. They also have a Fillet Mignon sandwich, with sweet potato fries, that looked really good.
Little fact we learned form our server, is that there is no microwave at the restaurant so you can be sure you're order is always made fresh, never reheated. Not that I was worried but still nice to know.
Oh, and bring a jacket/ sweater - it's usually cold. -

An outstanding steakhouse experience: action! glitz! glamour! enormous, robust cocktails! huge portions of extremely fresh, high-quality food, often with subtle twists on the classics, served with panache by the energetic staff. Bar is long and lively with the hardest working bar staff in Boca. Tends to attract a loud, brash, nouveau-riche crowd - but that's also just Boca. Portions are enormous, so plan to share, or bring half home. Wood grilled options are an interesting opportunity to add great flavor to fish or steak. Menu is extensive and it's also possible to eat healthy - try the mixed green salad, wood grilled salmon and grilled asparagus for example. Key lime pie is terrific and coffee service was delicious. Worth a special trip if you're visiting the area.

Great steak. I have been here many times and have been consistently wowed by different dishes, different waiters, and different wines. Their steaks are excellent..you get what you pay for at Abe and Louie's.
They will give you anything you want there. you can literally order anything...a little dipping sauce for your bread if you so choose "some garlic and olive oil dip please" (which they dont normally provide on the table) you should have seen what they came out with, it was certainly gourmet.
I love what they do with my lobster, its baked and battered in butter with bread-crumbs. MMMM!
I do feel like this place could/should have been rated better then some of the ratings there are out there, but thats okay. Your just going to have to try it for yourself! -

This is my second time at this restaurant and it was better than the first. Great service, fantastic atmosphere and amazing food. I ordered the bone in rib eye cooked med-rare, my mouth is watering as I type this.
Abe and Louie's cooked my meal to perfection. Their clam chowder was pretty decent as well. I would say just as good Ruth Chris, possibly a step up from Capital Grill.
If you have a party over six try and reserve the "Chef's Room" - a very nice touch. -

Not as good as New York Prime and more money as well. This is not a first pick steakhouse in Boca. Try Ruth's Chris second only go here if you can not get into the other 2 first.
Load up on the water because they give you those euro sized coke's for about $6 a clip. The NY strip with aged Cheddar is the best thing on the menu. If you are trying to impress your friends this is not the place to grab the bill with a big table. Especially if they are drinking coke's! -

I try and reserve awarding 5-star reviews for places that truly deserve them, and Abe & Louie's IS one of those places. It would stereotypically seem like a snotty "Boca" steak place but the management and staff make anyone feel like they belong. My girlfriend and I eat their quite often and I also utilize this place for lunch meetings as well as special occasions.
I am a creature of habit and almost always get their JUMBO shrimp cocktail, wedge salad and a bone-in filet. The shrimp are as fresh and JUMBO as they come, the salad is always fresh with their delicious house made bleu cheese dressing. Their steaks are bigger than any other place in town and they use only prime meats.
I've also tried their swordfish and crispy chicken dishes and BOTH are also worthy of a 5-star review. Oh, and if you;re feeling like splurging, get the Shellfish tower!
The bartenders always know our name and their entire team rolls out the red carpet no matter who you are. The price is what can be expected of this type of restaurant, but don't let it prevent you from making this a regular spot... we have. Be sure to ask for Cooper or Anthony behind the bar and Jamie or Brian on the floor! -
Review from alissa w.
Excellent food, and excellent quality. The place is huge, with a really nice bar to wait at. The quality of food here is excellent. The portions, are very big. It is your typical Boca restaurant at 8 the place is packed with people, and large tables. By 10 the entire restaurant is cleared out. Definately go with a group, and share the portions are really big !

Review from Sarah M.

This place has amazing food. That being said, I hold any place charging this much to a pretty high standard for the overall dining experience. And sadly, there were a few downfallls. Namely, accoustics and ventilation.
Accoustics: I went here last night with a group from work and we were seated at a corner booth. That was fine, but it was extraordinarily hard to hear each other. Usually, the point of a round table is so that everyone in the group can be part of the conversation. Not so at Abe & Louie's. Maybe I just caught them on a loud night? Didn't seem like it...but we could not hear each other. And at a professional-type dinner, it felt really awkward to scream across the table, but even worse to leave people out of the conversation entirely.
Ventilation: On three seperate occasions during dinner, we all smelled cigarette smoke. It seemed like people were smoking inside or maybe the windows were open? Nope. We asked at the end of dinner and one of the waiters said that if the door got left open from people coming and going, the smoke drifted in from outside. We were in the corner of the restaurant. The door is in the middle. The fact that smoke drifted all the way over to us was unacceptable. They have valet service in front - those people should also ensure that smokers get the hell away from the front door. But maybe that's just the Californian in me...
So the food...yep, it was great. I got to try an assortment and I love, love, loved the fresh mozzarella and tomato salad. Best fresh mozzarella I've ever eaten. I also really enjoyed the cobia (fish I'd never heard of) that was served with lobster ravioli. Perfect for people like me who wants to try everything - a little bit of fish and a little bit of pasta. Actually, not a little bit of either. Portion sizes were huge! Just finished the leftovers for breakfast =)
So overall, fantastic food but really not good for groups unless you want to scream at each other all night. Also, make sure you sit far, far away from the door. -

So I don't know if my experience is how the normal experience goes here... my dad's golf buddy took us to dinner. He dines here it seems almost weekly and is on first name basis with the entire staff. Our waitress already knew his and his wife's favorite drinks and what they order for food. Our waitress was excellent - her recommendations were great and she was very knowledgeable about the wine and food on the menu.
Food and drinks came promptly - apps were awesome: raw oysters were great and the mozzarella, huge fresh tomatoes, and basil salad with balsamic vinegar was soo soo tasty. Baked stuffed lobster and steaks were also cook to perfection. Overall, a great dining experience, but you'll pay for it - this place is not cheap. -

Miami, FL
I ordered the bone-in filet mignon, which I found to be more juicy and more flavorful than a regular filet. As a side dish, the table ordered creamed spinach and lobster macaroni and cheese. Louie's "no cream" version of creamed spinach, which I believe is made from chicken stock, is absolutely wonderful. However, I was a bit disappointed by the lobster mac and cheese. I thought the cheese was a bit too creamy, and I almost felt like I was eating pure heavy cream rather than cheese.
I would suggest coming to Abe & Louie's with a large party. The side dishes are large and can be shared with many people, so in a party of 8 you can get at least 3 - 4 side dishes.
Overall, I enjoyed my experience dining at Abe & Louie's. The food came promptly, everything was perfectly cooked, and the waiters and waitresses were incredibly nice. -

The last 2 times I visited this year the staff and food have been superb.
Perhaps they have new management but the service is definitely much better. The scene is Boca with an array of bentley's, porsches, benz's,and bmw's lined up in front of the restaurant. Lots of plastic surgery and gold and diamonds on display as well.
Now unto the food...
The prime rib double cut on the bone is the BEST I've had in along time!! Delicious! Enough for two people to share. The fresh cut french fries are great. The clam chowder was tasty and filled with potatoes and clams. The hollandaise sauce on the asparagus very good as well. They even have fried onion strings which are my personal favorite-so addicting! Lobster mac and cheese is good but more on the briny side. Our friend loved it! The wine selection also very good. The dessert chocolate souffle with cream and raspberry and chocolate sauce are a sweet way to end dinner. Definitely will be re-visited many times more! A great place for a date and or people-watching in Boca.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Went for lunch. Got to appreciate the beautiful wood paneled interior. Impecable service. Since it was lunch and I had to return to the office, my wife and I decided to split a glass of wine. We needed to toast the couple we were with. Server brought us each a half a glas eventhough we did not ask for the accomidation.. Nice touch. Bread selection was wonderful. Had the Nicoise salad ($14)which had generous pieces of sliced seared tuna.Could not finish the portion was so large.

My wife and I had an excellent dinner here last night. I had been to the Abe & Louie's in Boston several times but never to the one in Boca. The decor is remarkably similar and - happily - so was the food.
For a starter we shared a crab cake: really fresh and tasty, very little binder, easily large enough to share. My wife and I both thought it was one of the best steakhouse crab cakes we'd had.
My wife had the bone-in filet and I had the NY strip. Both were very cooked medium rare as ordered and were very satisfying. The flavors were more subtle than at some steakhouses. This was fine with me; sometimes I want a steak that is bursting with beefiness but the mellower approach hit the spot last night.
We shared chocolate-dipped strawberries for dessert. The berries were huge, which sometimes means flavorless, but these were great.
Wine was a 2006 Jordan from the extensive and steakhouse-priced list.
Service was knowledgeable, courteous and not overbearing. However, when the steaks were served the waiter asked us to cut into them to make sure they were cooked properly (he even had an LED penlight). I've never experienced this before and it seemed kind of weird. What's next, a written waiver?
All in all, an outstanding meal. -

Went with a big group on a crowded Saturday night and came away disappointed. Everything was slightly over-priced and not as great as the original in Boston.
Typical of the Boca scene, dressy fat cats playing rich just isn't my style.
A $40 bone in filet was not tasty and kind of small.
And I made the mistake of drinking coke in the small bottles, too.
I do not plan on returning. -

Abe and Louie's is another favorite Steak House of mine. Great Steaks, Great Service, and Great Menu. The Sweet Potato Fries side dish is out of this world. The Prime rib is outstanding. But, be-careful because if you split/share your food you'll get slapped with a $10 "Sharing Charge"

I have to admit, I didn't know what to expect from a steakhouse in Florida, but I came away with a very nice experience. I showed up with a work colleague on a Tuesday night and there was a decent crowd. The atmosphere was as others have described, dark, bold and authentic steak house decor. After a very stiff cocktail, we asked about the specials to find they had giant crab claws that evening. I ordered the tomato salad (very nice) and a giant crab claw and went to town. The service was excellent and when my bartender got me my drink 30 seconds later than he originally wanted, he said he put it on the house...very impressive. The food was very good and if you are looking to impress some clients or a date, Abe & Louie's is right for you...

This is just as good as the Boston location. The steak is cooked to perfection, the service is very friendly and fast (almost too fast however at busy times, they do try to push you out). The asparagus is delicious, and the sweet potato is cooked very well. The market price on the fish is usually competitive with any high priced establishment, but it doesn't take their land and sea options out of range. The smoked salmon appetizer is more than enough for three. Enjoy!

In the tradition of dark panelled, well-appointed restaurants with a finely turned staff, is this lovely restaurant. The menu is heavily meat-oriented, with generous chopped dinner salads, side dishes of fried onion "strings," creamed spinach and sauteed mushrooms, all ala carte. Each side dish is more than enough for two to share. Main dishes are priced in the $30-$40 price range. Table cloths, swept of crumbs by the staff between courses and the ritual of pouring coffee from high above the cup reinforced the atmosphere of fine dining. The prime rib and filet mignon were both generous portions and both were cooked exactly as ordered. Our waiter made no fuss about splitting a dinner salad and serving it as two portions (which proved to be more than enough for two). If the service and quality of food continues, there is no reason not to consider this one of the best restaurants in Boca Raton.
