Open 24 hours.

$2.99 wonton noodle soup. SUPER CHEAP. Warning: you get what you pay for. But in the middle of the night when you're starving and cold, it hits the spot.

WHY ARE THERE SO MANY BAD REVIEWS HERE?

Yeah yeah there used to be problems with ABC and some bugs, but not anymore... i went to ABC Cafe last week after I got a haircut across the street... I ordered the Beef Chow Fun... and it was delicious..

ABC is the place to go for cheap and tasty food.

$2.99 for Won Ton!!! they're freakin delicious by the way...
$3.99 for sole filet cutlet, not my favorite, but freakin good still!
$4.99 for clam spaghetti, so spicy, so delicious!
$5.99 for a steak, two eggs, veggies, and a side of mashed potatoes...

ITS SO GOOD! SO CHEAP! the steak is definitely not as good as Hacienda Height's Boston Cafe @ the New World Plaza, but sometimes I just don't feel like getting out of Alhambra for half an hour since ABC is only about 5 minutes away.

parking is at the plaza... they share with a billion other stores such as the korean restaurant next door.. it's FAIR... but the alley nearby stinks...

it's a good thing its opened 24/7... i can come here whenever i want... i stopped going here ever since KT opened, but now that the service at KT sucks, i've came back to ABC. :)

oh yeah, and my grandma likes coming here early in the morning on weekends for tea and porridge, great place to chill, sit down and have a friendly talk... it's a HK Cafe... so if you have problems with people speaking chinese... this aint the place for you.. go to santa monica.. LOL!

I would actually give this place negative stars! Growing up as an Asian, who often eats at Asian restaurants, I've learned to make a lot of exceptions with the service or food I get.  But there is no amount of exceptions that will make up for the crappy ass service and food from here!!

I used to come here often when I was a kid and I never failed to find a BUG in my soups!  But as a kid, I learned to just make an exception for it because it was an Asian restaurant and ignore it.

But I came here with a couple of friends at around 2 AM despite the bad experiences I had with it (I was willing to give it another try), I was only reminded why I hated it so much.  It took 20 or so minutes and 3 waiters just to get a glass of water!! The waiter came to take our order and we said we weren't ready but would have water to drink. .. He never brought it to us, and the other waiter we asked didn't either.  Seriously, do I have to be rude in order to get things??

It took forever for our food to arrive too!  And not only did it take forever to arrive, they also got my friend's order wrong!  When a complaint was made about the wrong order, the waiter simply replied "Oh, well if you WANT the correct order it'll take 15 minutes."

One word for ABC Cafe- YUCK. Food is YUCK, service is YUCK, cleanliness is YUCK.

Setting: 3/5
Food: 2/5
Service: 0/5

I'm extremely surprised this place is even ranked 2 stars. I've been here a couple of times and have had what was the worst experience from eating out ever.

First of all, let's talk about the seating. At first glance, it's not too bad. The place isn't massive but was roomy and comfortable enough. However, my first time here was also the first time I waited to be sat down when there were three empty tables and a fourth one that needed cleaning up. The wait wasn't long, but the waiters chose to walk by & ignore us for about five minutes before asking how many people were in our party.

Second of all, the food here isn't great. Saying that it is okay is an overstatement because other than the prices, nothing is very appealing. Sure, the food is cheap but you get what you pay for, so don't expect any high quality meals. My friend and I ordered hot tea one night because it was freezing outside, and we were charged about $2 for hot tea. WHAT? I'm not a cheapskate, but $2 for just tea is ridiculous.

Finally, let's get down to the source of all evil - THE WAITERS. God, I cannot possibly imagine how ABC Cafe picks up business with these employees from Hell. They actually choose to whether or not they want to serve you because you can wave them down all you want, but they'll just walk right by or glance at you and ignore you if you're not their cup of tea. One time, I pointed at the menu while telling a waiter what I wanted because I specifically wanted that dish, and it came out to be the wrong order. It took about five minutes to flag down a waiter, and when I told him that I didn't order what I was served, he said, "Yes, you may exchange it," and not before leaving with a snarky remark, "If you want to wait." The whole time not making a single attempt at eye contact. Are you being serious? And if you happened to be dying from thirst, don't expect to be saved here.

Overall, I'm going to cut to the chase and say, ABC CAFE SUCKS AS EASILY AS 123. Not worth the try or the money, despite its cheap food.

I used to only come to this open-24-hours-Chinese-Denny's for their $2.99 wonton noodle soup (ok call me a cheapskate but it's really good fat wonton) until they started putting loads of MSG into the food that gave me bad headaches.  I don't come here anymore.  TOo bad..  NOw I go to Har Lam Kee around the corner for their equally awesome wonton noodle soup with NO MSG!!

I think I'm the only one here to give this place 4 stars.

CMON, $2.99 wonton noodles? $3.99 fish fillet? all day?
and the breakfast menu is JUST as cheap! I ordered a bowl of porridge which, from what I remember, was about $3 too... and it came in a freakin huge bowl with a side of chow mein!

and this place is 24 hours... what more could you ask for? I'm just grateful to know theres a place where I can get some warm food at any time of the day/night. I'm not always craving a fatass burrito or greasy fries at 2am.

I personally really like the wonton noodles. I even crave it sometimes. Add some of the hot sauce/oil thing sitting on the table and omg it makes it 10x better.

Don't come here expecting a grand meal... would you expect the same out of a Denny's? And about the service... I've never had a problem with them -_-

Seriously, if you're here, that means you just like the price you see in here.  It's VERY cheap and it opens up late at night too.  Don't even bother coming here if you care alot about service, settings, decorations and all those other things.  This is not a great restaurant but it sure is cheaper than other cafes.

Went here around 3am late at night because it was one of the few cafes open. Our friends actually went over to JJ cafe to eat because they didn't like abc but we didn't want to relocate so we just stayed. So apparently they do street cleaning at 3am so you can't park there or else your car will be towed so be careful around those hours. they are open 24 hours a day.

The outside looks really ghetto i have to admit. Inside is pretty decent and typical. The staff I must say is very friendly and helpful. They are understaffed during the AM hours so they are always running around but even if you have to ask for a refill, they get right on it PRONTO! haha.

Prices are pretty cheap for what they give you. They have some steak or rice combinations for around 7-8 bucks. They also have some soups such as the wonton for $2.99. The wait time was average. Food for the steak and shrimp looked kinda dry, to be honest it didnt' look that tasty but I didn't try it myself so i might be wrong. The rice looked very plain as well. I got the wonton soup because I wanted something nice and I must say, the wonton soup really hit the spot for me. When you're drunk, it's the perfect soup. it has some noodles in there as well so it fills you up. The food reminds me of the asian version of Norms or dennys.

I wouldn't mind coming here again but that's only because of the limited selection open late at night. If you don't like this place, just go to JJ cafe down a few blocks. It's decent, the service is pretty awesome. but too bad I don't go to restaurants for service so not that many stars.

So I'm visiting LA for the first time in about 5 years, and my guy friends decided to do it up real big for me.  No holds barred.  Pulled out all the stops.  And took me to,...ABC Cafe.  Now that's class.  Gotta love my guy friends.  As soon as they saw the "$6.99 steak!" and the "$7.99 filet mignon special" on the menu (because, really, when will you ever see those words and those amounts together), they knew they had made the right decision.

F@#$ my life.

Granted, it was 11pm and it was a choice between this or some other crappy place.  Granted, I told them I wasn't hungry.  But, DAYAMN GINA  the food at ABC Cafe made me lose what little appetite I had to start with.  I've never tasted drier meat, and that includes any and all types of meat jerky.  And jerky is supposed to be dry!!!

I don't care if it's freakin' 3am and you are about to chew off your arm.  Stay away from ABC.  'Nough said.

The food tastes awful.  I won't go there again.  The menu is cheap, they have lunch specials like won ton noodle at $2.99 including a drink.  I think it is a good place to go if you only want to fill your tummy at a low price.

My wife ordered the steak with eggs and my kids ordered won ton noodle. They didn't finish the food.  My kids' excuse was "not hungry", but I know they were because we didn't have breakfast that day.  They were just picky.

I'd rather drive a little to China Bistro in Rosemead.

You go here for cheap eats, 24 hours a day. Same plaza as Fatty Ding's and Golden City. A reliable Hong Kong café, like a grubby Chinese Denny's, festooned with Christmas garlands and unlit Christmas lights, all year round. Couple TV monitors, tuned in to Cantonese soaps and whatnot. You see old-timers in the a.m., young'uns in the p.m.

Tasty pork chops, jook, and eggs. OK coffee served with condensed milk as creamer. Predictable takes on Western food (pasta and the like). Bring your appetite and realistic expectations in tow. For any meal other than breakfast/brunch, you come here because you are too lazy, drunk, hungover, or otherwise debilitated to throw together a meal yourself.

Everytime I sit in here, there is a sense of impending doom. Time stand still, pigs get slaughtered, and storm clouds gloom over the area.

As I am no longer obligated to hang out with my dad anymore and get 2 dollar wontons, I am no longer a willing participant of taste bud murder.

Doom I say. Flee! Flee!

This place is the place to go if you want a decent piece of steak for the right price.  For $5.99 you can get rib eye steak (choice of sauce: garlic, mushroom, black pepper) along with 2 eggs, steamed veggies (prolly from the frozen aisle), and a side of spaghetti w/ tomato sauce (a bit watered down) or steamed rice.  I can honestly say I LOVED it!  I asked for medium rare and it was cooked just how I wanted it...soft and juicy.  Of course it's no Morton's or Mastro's but you can't ask for much paying only $5.99 for a piece of steak!  It's as good as it gets!  Also they have pretty good wonton noodle soup....all for $2.99!!!  This places gives the best bang for your buck!  And best of all, it's open 24 hours...perfect for late night grub...for CHEAP!

This place kind of reminds me of Tai Buu in Garden Grove...but their steak is way better.  Tai Buu's steak is way too thin and dry.

Hong Kong version of Denny's. 24-hours. Where you can go to get your grub on after a late night clubbing/drinking bonanza. We did neither, but it was here or KT Cafe. Okay maybe we should have gone to KT Cafe, but how are you gonna be the Won Ton soup for $2.99? Steak and eggs for $5.99? FILET MIGNON for $8! I mean, you're not paying for quality here. You're definitely not paying for the service.

But yes, there are many other late night places that are MUCH better than ABC Cafe.

What can I say about this place...

When I was a sophomore in High School, we came here practically every other day. The food was craptastic but dirt cheap. On special occasions, we might have laid down $6 for a chicken steak. Always with the unlimited refills on drinks.

I've since then upgraded to other establishments, but ABC Cafe will always remain dear to my heart.

This is your typical asian diner, come if you're broke and starved at 3 am, but please give it a pass otherwise.

well there's really nothing more to this place, except that they did try to remodel a while back, but that didn't help with anything. Same group of cheap eaters eating here, and same group of bad waiters running the joint.

This is one of the oldest cafes in San Gabriel Valley.  It used to be the "cafe" where you get your chicken steak, wonton soup, noodle dishes etc.  I would give this place 4 stars before...that was then and this is now.  Its food quality is not as good as before.  You go there for cheap eats like $2.99 wonton noodle soup and pig feet noodle soup (eww).  They have specials like $7.99 steak or sole fillet with butter shrimps, $5.99 steak & egg and other cheap stuff.  We got wonton noodle soup and minute (steak) sandwich for $11 (including tax and tips).  That's very cheap for a sit down restaurant.  The wonton soup was not bad and the steak was tasty.  Not the best quality of meat because I had to cut the tendon but I didn't mind.  The restaurant was a little messy but service was good for a Chinese place.  They are open 24 hours a day.

BAD SERVICE. There is a man that works there and he will literally chase you down the street if you do not leave a sufficient amount of tip. (Personal experience) It is quite frightening, yes.. HOWEVER, they do have wonderful $2.99 wonton noodle soup like everyone else has mentioned.

The beef stew & wonton lo mein is delicious! Sometimes, the white soup they give you before your meal is watery and liquidy. Ew.

I should have trusted my gut feeling about this place before deciding to give it a shot. I would have to say Chinese cafe food ranks high on my list of favorite types of Chinese food. It's close proximity to the bank and grocery store I stopped by at, I couldn't help but wonder if this location was as good as the one up in San Francisco I used to always go to when I was young.

Whoa, $2.99 for a wonton noodle soup?! Well we have to try that! We also ordered a rice porridge and baked pork chop rice. For drinks we got a hot milk tea and Thai iced tea.

Our meal started off with a white creamy soup with ham and vegetables mixed with it. Alright, that wasn't so bad, this place might have a chance.

Our porridge came out next and it was super bland, the meat in it wasn't the freshest and could very well be the culprit to me not feeling well after eating here. The only benefit of this dish was the fact that it was really hot and it was freezing outside.

The wonton noodle soup is comparable to Phoenixs' and for $2.99, I really can't be complaining.

I don't think I've been to a cafe that messes up baked pork chop rice. That's a trademark for Chinese cafe dishes and yet, here, it was probably the worst I'd had. The little sauce it came with was brown and once again bland.

On top of below par food their service sucks, no refills, and takes a while to get the check. I walked out there thinking what a waste of a meal and wanting to puke on the ride back home.......

This place is probably the closest 24 hour restaurant to me.  For that, I already like it.  We came here about at 1:30AM and there were plenty of waiters around to serve us.  Food took a bit longer than expected (maybe there was only one chef back there) and for the quality of food on a late night, this is definitely better than hitting the fast food drive-thrus!  Price isn't so bad either, for the six of us, the bill was less than $10 bucks a person and we will all stuffed!

Ahh... chinese cafes.  Land of the cheap late night entrees and crappy ass service.  Come on.  Seriously.  Does anyone expect to come to a chinese restaurant, let alone a chinese cafe expecting to get the best service and food?  Geez, people!  Take it for what it is, just like how you take PF Chang's what it really is (gringo food).  With that said, here comes the review...

Again, one of the best places about chinese cafes is the price of the food.  Here, you can get a "rib-eye" steak with 2 eggs for $5.99.  It's probably not rib-eye (again, check your expectations at the door people), but it's some sort of beef (most likely chuck steak).  I went ahead and ordered the wonton noodle soup.  The wonton has decent flavor.  I don't really want to know what's inside those wontons (I think it's shrimp & some sort of spare rib pork).  The broth is relatively good.  How much is my wonton noodel soup?  $2.99.  Yeah, that's right.  It's cheap and it's good.  What's so wrong about this?  Nothing.

I've had worse food and I've paid more for it in other restaurants.  It's not to say this food is bad.  It's relatively good.  I don't know why everyone gives this place such bad ratings.  If you want excellent service and amazing food, try NOT going to a chinese cafe.  If you want good value for your money, this place is not a bad choice.

When it comes to a late night dinner, this rest. does deserve more than one star. Besides the servers giving you the food and getting your order, you are serving yourself. Last night, I got the chili sauce myself because knowing their service from previous visits can take as long as fifteen minutes.

This is also a two star because it has a wonderful price for their Wonton soup @ 2.99. Pretty filing. Plus, even if you order a steak, it's only 6 bucks.

Ughh update....! their service deserves less than one star and their attitude

It's all about the rib eye special $5.99 for me & my sis to chow down.

Their black pepper sauce is not what I expected I ordered it on the sauce expectng some thin runny sauce with loads of stale pepper dumped on top. Nope, actual cracked pepper cooked into the gravy. Awesome.

A plus on walking out and seeing some of the employees shooting craps on the side alley all squatting around a cardboard box, smoking and presumabley cursing in Chinese/Vietnamese/Tagalog.  Homeland. How's that for some authenticity?

I love asian cafes, just not this one.
My parents and I decided to try this place because there were lots of people waiting to eat there for Saturday lunch.

The Horror Story: I ordered a Thai tea. As usual, my dad watched anxiously for them to bring out our food/drinks. He saw a waitress carrying drinks so he followed her with his eyes. She stopped at the wrong table, set the drinks down and then realized that she had brought the drinks to the wrong table. Without even saying sorry to the people, she plucked the drinks from their hands/table and brought it to our table. My dad said to the lady "I just saw you bring the drink to the wrong table and the lady over there drank out of my daughter's drink, we do not want any of the drinks anymore." The lady just looked at my dad and did not say anything. WTF RIGHT!?

The food is cheap and quality was equally as cheap. I didn't feel well after eating here.

1 star is 1 too many! This place sucks ass!!!

Came here on the night of Halloween. First off- HALF OF THE RESTAURANT was empty yet they refused to seat anyone! I wanted to leave but the rest of my party wanted to stay. I mean, YOU LAZY SONS OF BITCHES! CLEAN UP THE FKING TABLES AND SEAT US!!! Everyone kept asking about their tables and the fucking workers/manager just looked at them, and looked away. Fucking pricks.

So we got our tables--they ignored us till 1/2 hour later after I yelled, "I'M SO HUNGRY!!!". Yes, I YELLED because they walked passed us like we were invisible even after trying to get their attention for 1/2 an hour!

Came and got our orders---1/2 hour later,,brought out everyone's food except for 3 of us who had ordered WONTON NOODLE SOUP. We waited till everyone was half done with their food then asked the waiters about our orders and they brought out 2. FUCKING IDIOTS!! I MEAN, I ASKED IN CHINESE YOU FUCKING DICKS! I UNDERSTAND YOU CAN'T SPEAK ENGLISH BUT I ASKED IN CHINESE!! Everyone pretty much finished and I asked about the last one and told them to forget it. A few minutes later, they brought out something they threw together. Bowl with soup and hard ass noodles with NO VEGETABLES on top. At this point-I was already pissed off and tired so I didn't want to bother with a scene. Took a few bites and left.

FUCK YOU ABC

Interesting fact I learned on my most recent trip to ABC Cafe: It used to be a Kentucky Fried Chicken wayyyyy back in the day, supposedly before I was born.  All this time, I never noticed the big bucket hanging out above the building.
I was there for dinner with 5 other people.  Service wasn't the best.  No one came around with water pitchers; we had to ask.  However, food was good.  I had the Pig Feet Noodle soup for $2.99...took me a while to finish...yummmm.  Then I had the $5.99 Chicken & Shrimp Fillet meal...couldn't finish it...too much food!  Their Rib Eye Steak and 2 Eggs for $5.99 is a great deal too.  Overall, it's not the cheapest place to go for food.  I mean, Kang Kang Food Court is right next door, and it's hard to beat their prices.  ABC isn't the first place I'd come, but I'm not opposed to it either.

Love the food here I have been coming here for 7 years now. The staff know me and my friends and the food is at a good price. If you have time please stop by and support ABC Cafe. By the way they are open 24 hours

4.17.08: well it may have seem as if everyone hates this place but they keep coming back? So what's the deal? Well this place is 24 hours compared to other cafes that closes at 4am.

Cons: ...... .....Of the times I have gone here I didn't really see any cons. The service is ok just like any other place. It's what you order that counts. Stay away from the wonton or just don't expect much from it ...It's only $2/$3 sooo...duh!

Pro: Their soup is good. Borscht soup please. You can't go wrong with that. Plus the times I was here my service was good. Its probably just me I have an affect on people to be nice to me...ha ha.. I remember having the seafood chow mein and also the baked ham and chicken..Taste the same as if it was at JJ's or JR or even at Sunday...

reading the review of others however makes me think twice bout coming here, it even sounds scarry but ummmmm I've been here many times make your food choices wisely!

I don't know if it's just cause I don't speak chinese, but 95% of the time I come here, I get horrific service. I have actually vowed to never step foot in this place again.

The food is below average, even their chinese dishes! The only reason my friends and I ever came was for their 3.99 rib eye steak and eggs (I forget the price, it might be wrong, but it was cheap), it was pretty decent for the price.

If it weren't for their service, I might still be going there.

They've tried to remodel a few years back, but it still feels dirty and I always leave with an icky feeling and a smelly shirt.

True Story: We were eating here pretty late (probably after 1-2 am), just a random night with my friends and figured we'd grab some rib eye. I needed to use the restroom, I opened the men's door.... and BAMMM!!! some guy was taking a leak on the FLOOR... NEXT to the urinal. It was packed, someone was in the stall, someone was in front of the urinal, someone was washing their hands, and someone was taking a leak under the sink. WTF?! Traumatizing.......

to the jingle of that bagel bites commercial:

shitty in the morning
shitty in the evening
shitty at supper time

if shit was on a bagel
they'd probably serve it at ABC.

eh I gave it a shot.

The good thing about this place is that is open 24 hours.  The place is frequent by seniors during the morning hours, they gather there to talk, drink tea or coffee and eat.  The service is a little crazy, but entertaining.  The bus boys (not chinese) are able to speak a few phrases in chinese.  The prices are great for the food that you get.

Cheap food and opens late.  Got hungry and ate here.  Service was mediore.  I don't think asian places opened late at night are known for the best service.  Ordered the wonton noodle soup...oh so so good!  The past 3 times I've eaten here, they always screw up on my order.  My favorite chinese dish is beef chow mein with "black bean sauce".  They either give me beef chow fun instead or beef chow mein hong kong style.  Damn it....get it right!.  Overall...it's decent food and a cheap price.  I would've given a 3 star but they kept messing up my order!

Cheap food, if you order from specials. Filet w/ shrimp + wonton soup noodle all for $11+tax+tip and they are actually very good. Well, you win some and lose some. Service is almost nonexistence.
