Abby's is a low-key, semi-fast-food joint with food you can't get anywhere else.

Its meals are affordable - most are under $6 - and tasty. But what really makes Abby's stand out is the restaurant's fusion dishes. The vegetarian wrap, for one, is a tortilla full of white rice, crunchy broccoli and black beans, served with a side of spicy teriyaki sauce and sour cream - at 1.5 pounds, it's delicious and filling.

Abby's is the kind of restaurant where your potato wedges come with chow mein, where your popcorn chicken comes with ranch dressing, where your wontons come with bacon.

As a vegetarian, I can't speak to the quality of the meat dishes. What I can tell you is the dishes I have had combine typical ingredients in an atypical fashion with great results. No one will mistake Abby's for gourmet food, but in a market saturated with burritos, hamburgers and Chinese food, Abby's stands out as a fast-food innovator.

About that fast part - since everything's made fresh, you may wait 10 minutes or so for your meal. It's not drive-thru speed, but it's worth the wait.

    its okay.
it's pricy for a mediocre place.

Often when I'm at a loss at what to order, I ask the server what their favorite dishes are.  The woman at the counter said she liked the spicy chicken.  We each got an order of that.  She asked if we wanted it really spicy, which of course we did.  There were two types of chicken, battered and fried, as well as stir fried chicken pieces, with chow mein noodles, and quite a bit of perfectly steamed broccoli.  The battered chicken was crisp and tender, and had a sweet hot sauce.  The stir fried chicken was very good too.  The portions were large.  I would have liked it even spicier, but that was remedied with a bit of rooster sauce.  We enjoyed our meal very much, and will definitely go back.

I tried this place out with several friends.  At first I was skeptical as to what type of food they were serving but we finally gave it a try.  To my surprise, the food was fantastic.  We would definitely come back.
