MMMMMMMMMMM.

Good pie.  I went here after a few beers on Halloween.  I tried the pizza bianca and it was absolutely delicious.  White pie with carmelized onions, roasted garlic, herbs and "blobs" of ricotta.

The crust was different as it had sesame seeds.  I'm not a huge fan of crust alone, so their spicy mustard dipping sauce solved that.

The slice was $5 with tip, so a bit on the pricy side but well worth it.  I also tried the salad pizza which was okiay for me but my friends loved it.

Definitiely a must try if you are in this most interesting area.

It is great to have a place where you can duck in for a slice and Abbot's used to be the place in Venice. Sadly it has gone way,way down hill. We moved back to the Venice area after living in another part of town and were excited to be close to this venerable joint, unfortunately something has gone very wrong -

The pizza used to be beautifully crafted, served by charming hippy folks who played great tunes and the place felt friendly and cool. The staff threw the pizza at us, gave  us the wrong order and the pizza was tepid, poorly executed and heavy handed. Both my wife and I felt like the slices were not fresh and the place seemed dirty and disorganized. All this was topped off by the fact they were playing an NBA game at top volume so all we could do was listen to crappy tv commercials and languish over tepid pizza.

They used to be great and now they are less than a bad college pizza parlor.

When the moon hits your eye....
like a big peee-zza pie.....
That's amor-eeeee........

I love how colorful and fun this pizza joint looks on Abbot Kinney. Its always bustling with people going in and out the door, and there's always really cool looking people sitting outside on their colorful mosaic tile cafe tables with their various miniature dogs on a leash, that it calls to me like a glistening Bernini statue to come towards it....except this is Abbot Kinney folks, not Rome!

Yesterday afternoon, I finally succumbed towards my inclination to try this joint out.

Ahh, so its small and quaint inside with just enough room for a trail of people to stand in line to place their orders. Pizzas seem to be premade already and you order by the slice.  I'm assuming if you wanted a full pizza, you'd get a freshly backed and warm pizza.  Else, they will heat up individual slices of pizza for you.  The walls are a bright sunny warm yellow that make you feel like you're inside a fizzy Sunkist.  There's even a large flat wall tv blaring in the front of the store front to keep you company while you wait for your order.  Honestly, the inside was a bit seedy.  It didn't really meet my expectations based on the vibe and look of the outside.

Service is pretty fast I have to say...maybe cuz the pizza's not made fresh and they're just heating it up for yah???!

So, I ordered the WILD MUSHROOM which is Portobello, Oyster, Button, Shiitake Mushrooms withParmesan, Romano & Mozzarella Cheeses on an Olive Pesto Sauce.  OMG, yum right??

But it just seemed a bit too .....too..."processed and premade" for my taste.  Its flat, doesn't have as much loft of a pizza piled high with fresh ingredients like the pizzas in Italy.   Even though my pizza was heated, it still seemed tepid, like something I nuked really quick in the microwave.

Yes, I prefer and adore the Napolitano style thin crust pizzas so I was a bit weary of the so called "home of the bagel crust."

The pizza was indeed yummy, and when I finally got to the crust?  it was chewy, just like a few hours old bagel would feel against your teeth as you tear it apart when biting into it. Hmm, perhaps if I had some strawberry cream cheese spread?  That would have been a very nice chaser for ALL of that bagel crust in the end.

My verdict?

I'm going to stick to my thin crispy crust Napolitano style pizzas with FRESH ingredients piled high that are made fresh to order.  Plenty of places for that.   Its good but not enough to have me cross county lines, mucho traffic and go through the frustration of finding parking to get to this joint!   Its a'right to have if and when I'm in the neighborhood.

Never had crust like this in NYC. Substantial without obscuring the toppings, well seasoned, and a perfect chew. Not bad for $3.75/slice.

Had two slices of margherita and although the tomato could have been a touch fresher, these were some good slices. Great late night stop.

So, my wife and I escaped the debacle that was the debut of the Grilled Cheese Truck. But, on that cold and windy October night, we still needed bread and cheese. Some bright lights and people milling outside brought us to Abbot's Pizza Company.

The patrons looked happy, and that's always a good thing. There was nowhere to sit inside when we got there, but a few minutes after we ordered, our slices of cheese pizza were delivered and a large group left. Perfect.

I always like to test a place that I've never been with a cheese slice. If that's is done right, the pizzeria is well on its way to success. In this case, I was quite pleased with my slice. It was thin crust with not too much cheese and tomato sauce. They use bagel dough, something that is evident when you eat the edge crust. It wasn't mind-boggling (a little dry, maybe, but that's a style thing, I think). However, it was the right pizza at the right time. I certainly would not hesitate to stop there again and try one of APC's exotic toppings pizza.

Mmm, I love this place.

It's a hole in the wall on Abbott-Kinney - walk in, order a slice from the selection (they'll warm it up for you), or commission your own pie. My personal fave is the salad pizza - it's a salad, piled on a pizza! O, yes. The taste of oily dough with the impression that it's all good for you and low-cal! I'm taken in.

Oh, and the crust is a beigel. With sesame seeds if you want. Tastes good and the big pizzas are not big, they're huge.

Call ahead if you don't want to queue, parking is on the street outside (good luck) or the lots behind the shop on Electric. You can sit inside on stools, or outside on tiny tables. Knock yourself out.

When I hear a restaurant is on Abbot Kinney (in Venice Beach), that is an immediate turn-off for me.  Everywhere is crowded and parking is a nightmare.  I've found though that you can park easily enough in the residential area east of Abbot Kinney so parking is at least manageable.  Still, Abbot's Pizza Co has Abbot in its name, which is probably why I haven't tried it until now.

Abbot's Pizza Co is a small place (though it looks like they do good business with deliveries).  There are a few tables inside and a counter area.  There are also a few tables outside, but they are shared with the cafe next door.

They have a pretty big menu (not just pizza).  I decided to go with a slice of cheese pizza and a slice of their famous salad pizza (which is served cold).  The cheese pizza tasted like it had been great once, but it was now just cold and not fresh.  The crust (thin) was great.  If I would have gotten it right out of the oven, I probably would have enjoyed it more.

The salad pizza was exactly what it said it was--a mixed salad on top of pizza crust.  The salad consisted of mixed greens, tomatoes, onions, lemon, avocado, feta cheese, and a vinaigrette.  It was served on a thin crust with poppy seed on the edges.  Avocado (though a little bit oxidized) was very generously spread on the pizza.  It was okay and a decent value for what you pay, but I would only recommend it to you if you like salad (because it is not really pizza).

I doubt I will come back (due to its location) though the pizza is probably okay to good when hot and fresh.  If I lived close by, I would consider this for my pizza delivery place though.

Venice,CA which is known for eccentric people, original art and organic food is also the home to Abbots Pizza Company.   I looked up the website and was definitely  skeptical.  I am really not used to this California pizza that is filled with gourmet ingredients and creative combinations. However, my options are limited in the area, so .. sure... I will tryout.

I ordered the New York style pizza and continued with my usual toppings; italian sausage, green peppers and mushrooms (button). The menu did technically say chicken italian sausage, but I thought that was a typo and it was just missing a comma.  The pizza box was opened and i was a little disappointed.  I saw that there was no typo and that this was chicken italian sausage.  I am always leary when the sausage is in a little disc shape.  That being said, the pizza smelled amazing and all the ingredients looked crisp and fresh.
Overall I really, really liked this pizza.  The ingredients were of high quality and the freshest I have had in my great pizza search in California.  The crust was a chewy NY style and the amount of cheese and toppings was absolutely ideal.  Needless to say, I was extremely impressed with Abbots Pizza Company and I will definitely be back for more.

*cries*  Just when I thought I found one of the best pizza places in Socal...

It was love at first bite . . . the saucy BBQ chicken pizza with generous amounts of chicken MmMm
. .the bright and refreshing salad pizza with feta cheese . .*drools..  . .

I was rudely awoken from my pizza day dream by a limp and dry impostor sitting before my eyes.  The BBQ Chicken pizza had been reduced to a tortilla covered in cold cheese.
The salad pizza gave me x-ray vision.  When I lifted the pizza off my paper plate, I could see right through the plate.  Someone had a HEAVY hand with the salad oil.

What a shame. .  . I may return for a second shot.   Until then, I'm on the hunt for a replacement.

Had to down grade... Just had the salad pizza, it was disgustingly oily.  When I would old the pizza at an angle, the oil just rolled off the pizza.

I've used more than 10 napkins to wipe the oil off my hands...  Also the bbq chicken pizza is extremely dry today.

This is my fave pizza joint.  The pizza taste fresh and the crust is not greasy and the ends are the best part since it is like biting into a tasty bagel. The only problem I have with the place is that parking sucks, especially at night, so you may have to "tuck and roll" where your friend drives and you bail out of the passenger seat.  It is a tiny spot, there are some seats inside and out, but since it is pretty popular, so it can be hard to find a seat.  You can order by the slice, so you can try many different slices.  I usually opt for the veggie types of pizza, which are all good. I still have yet to try the salad pizza, but it is on my list. I had my co-worker check it out for lunch and he agreed it was good; he knows his pizza since he is from the East coast.

I order an XL pizza every sunday. It's always great.

Here's the key when you're ordering:
1) "The Blend" crust. All the dough is bagel dough, which is incredible, but go with the blend crust.
2) Make sure they send dipping sauce. You have to ask, and the crust is to good not to be enjoyed as it's own thing.

Top 3 pizzas:
1) Mushroom
2) Popeye
3) Bar-B-Q pizza

This is a great place that just exudes Venice swagger.  The service is a bit brash,  the decor is minimal to none, the place is small and cramp, but the food is delicious.  Look, if you can't deal with that then you really shouldn't be in Venice.  Go down the street and get your food in the more posh SM venues.  I would give this a solid 5 but the prices aren't very competitive for what you get.

Bagel crust pizza here is great and they go light on the sauce.  Don't come in with the attitude that this pizza is suppose to compare to the NY style stuff.  This is CA pizza through and through.

The salad pizza is pretty good if your looking for something lighter.  It really is just a combination of the bread and salad just all in one bite.  From what I remember there really isn't any exotic salads here.  They have the usual caesar's and greek salads with some random other ones.

My favorite pizzas are the gourmet ones.  Most of the ones I have tried (meat Eater, Four-Way, Goat Cheese, Wild Mushroom, and Five Onion)  are all really good but my favorite still is the Five Onion.  If your along Abbot and want a quick bite definitely stop here.

Staff is grumpy and are not very accommodating with their "pizza nazi" ways...did I hear her say "No salad pizza for you, bitch!" because I could have sworn she did...

The bbq chicken pizza I had rocked though.  Perfect balance of flavors, not too much BBQ sauce, awesome thin crust and the poppy and sesame seeds made it that much better.  I wish I'd ordered 2 slices, and I'm not a 2 slice girl!  A little pricey at over $5/slice after tax.

I am definitely going to return to try their famous salad pizza... next time I won't go late at night though, b/c they only sold slices even though we wanted to order a whole pizza.

I was sooooooo hungry and needed food.  I had to run down to Venice to drop something off to a friend after work and found myself on Abbott Kinney at 6pm.  What the f*ck am I going to eat?  I really don't want to eat any meat or seafood or cheese.  I really wanted to kick it as vegan as possible.

Hmm...  I walked up and down the boulevard trying to figure out what to get.  Damn I HATE when this happens.  I mean I HATE when there is nowhere for me to eat.

Okay think. Maybe I can get some pizza without cheese.  Will they think I'm crazy??  Turns out the Abbott's Pizza has a cheeseless pizza on their menu.  There weren't any slices already made so they kindly offered to make a fresh pizza just for little old me.  So sweet.  They're a bunch of hippies and I love it!

Their cheeseless pizza is a good effort, but there is definitely something missing (even with the fresh veggies they include).  Doesn't come close to the tomato (cheeseless) pizza at Pizzeria Mozza.  At Mozza you don't miss the cheese at all, but at Abbott it just doesn't really taste like pizza.  I think it must be that the quality of the crust and tomato sauce at Mozza is so much higher.

Oh well.  They tried and I am VERY grateful.

Just had this place for the first time even though I work down the street. We ordered the salad pizza which I was hesitant about because there is no meat on the thing.

However, the damn pizza was loaded with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, 2 types of cheeses and had a crispy crust underneath which I love.

Highly recommend if you are ever in the Abbot-Kinney area.
I am definitely going to try a bunch of different types now!

I came here about a year ago with a local while visiting LA.

I had the pepperoni. It's been sometime since I ate here... I remember enjoying my slice of pizza, but I have tasted better. I guess after eating NYC pizza, every other pizza is just "okay"

We parked on the street, it was quiet busy and there was a line. Small hole in the wall, so seating was a little tight, we managed to grab a seat inside.

I may come back here again to try another slice of pizza. This place seems popular... so if you're in the area... and craving pizza, stop by here and try a slice for yourself!

3 stars for standing in a long line and safe pizza!

Great as usual. I've had most of their pizzas, from the mushroom pizza to the salad pizza...just a cheese slice did the trick for me today. I love 'by the slice' joints for exactly this reason. All ingredients are top-notch. Nearly perfect (though perfect pizza is an elusive animal), so four stars.

We were walking forever one night after hitting Venice's Carnavale... We ended up at Abbot's Pizza, small little pizza joint which states "famous bagel crust". Yum. I gotta try this!

They do sell pizza by the slice, but somehow we thought we could finish a small pie on out own. So we got the small Spicy Chicken = lime marinated chicken+a melody of jalapeños. Perfect!!
http://static.px.yelp....

This place was pretty packed...we actually should have bought the pizza by slice because waiting for the pizza took awhile. However they have the coolest little flat screen that is their own specialized advertisement with fun facts and quizzes. It was cool.

I give it 5 stars for some real spicy chicken pizza ... it was great, the crust was crisp and delicious.  I also give it 5 stars for the staff...everyone who works there is super nice and friendly. It's a great place to get a cheap bite to eat.

I'm a fan.  Really good gourmet style pizza with interesting mixes of toppings.  Their prices are a bit high, but then again, these are one-off, gourmet style pizzas that are heavy on the toppings.

I stopped by here Sunday afternoon after having a few great beers at the Manhattan Beach Brewing Company while watching the Lakers playoff game.  I really like Abbot Kinney Street, the galleries, the bars, the food joints and the overall vibe.  Reminds me of some places in Brooklyn, NY, but so does Abbot Kinney in general....

My friend and I shared a very large slice of just the 'regular' pizza.  $3.22 w/tax per slice.  Really flavorful, I like the sesame seeds in the crust.  I walked around Abbot Kinney like a New Yorker though with my pizza folded over, eating while walking..... I did not, however, break out "Yo" at any time....

Serving up solid thin crust pizza just a block down from Three Squares, Abbot's Pizza is the down-to-earth alternative to Pizzeria Mozza. Well worth the drive from south central on a cloudy day, anything with feta (i.e. Greek, Athens, etc) will surely make cheese lovers happy. Grab a couple slices to go and walk down Abbot Kinney for a fun and relaxing way to experience lunch.

Yes.......

Doesn't he see i'm with a woman and I don't swing that way.....

Nope..........

Seriously??

Yup..............

LA does not know how to make a proper tasting pizza do they?

Nope......

But we do have pizza guys that wink at us don't we?

Yep........

And pizza is good even when it's not so good isn't it?

Yep..........

Abbot's is run of the mill pizza with a slightly crispier crust then most pizzeria's in LA.  But not like a NYC style crust it's lacking in flavor and texture.

Used to be great - as did the [always helpful and funny] cute emo chicks who used to run the register. Too bad they've hired half-baked moronic zombies in place of the hotties and raised their prices beyond the reach of this starving blues harmonica player.

Four bucks for a small slice of pizza ? Come APC get it together !

Even if I'm drunk, hungry and only have four bucks left to my name - I'm going across the street from APC and buying more beer instead of waisting it on three bites of stale pizza served by an angry b_tch.

BTW They've made it almost impossible to shake even the tiniest amount of parmesan cheese outta' the shaker cause they retrofitted the the tops with one tini-tiny hole instead of a real shaker top that's got like 60 holes in it.

Oh yeah, if you must go eat at APC - don't even bother asking them to heat your over priced slice up. . . they throw it in the oven for literally 10 seconds and it comes out ICE COLD. Just order a custom pie and WAIT IT OUT - this is the ONLY way to get your money's worth at APC.

Just had lunch there for the 100th time. It's the local Venice go to for pizza. They have "modernized" a bit with new menu signs a cc TV infotainment system and started lableing the pizza slice trays but it's still the same great "bagel dough" pizza we've come to love.
It's thin hand tossed NY style pizza with bagel style crust ingredients. There are a many varieties of toppings beyond the norm including popeys', greek, spicy chicken and even a salad pizza that is basically salad with breadsticks all in one.

The prices for a whole pie is pretty reasonable for a gourmet topped pie however 2 slices and a drink will set you back $10. Still a cheap lunch by Venice standards.

They are open late so try 'em after the a night at one of the local watering holes.

I thoroughly enjoyed my Salad Pizza here last night while visiting Venice for the first time.  As we were walking down aimlessly looking for a place to eat, we saw some patrons enjoying their pizza outside.  Boy did it look delicious!  I saw some lady have a pizza with large chunks of avocado on hers and I said.. "I want that!"

So that's how I came to enjoy my yummy slice of Salad Pizza.  It had a thin crispy crust with generous toppings of salad, avocado and tomatoes.  The crust was also amazing with a bagel like texture and taste.  I also got to enjoy my yummy pizza with a can of Orangina!  It was the best simple meal I've had in a long time..

AWESOME pizza, and AMAZING people, it's the winning combination that makes it a 5 star eatery!

Though I had my mind set on the Salad and the Gypsy pizza, I was still hesitating when I got there eyeing everything in the display case... the lady was so patient and friendly, trying to help me to narrow down my choices, she didn't rush me at all and smiled the whole time!

Yep, I ended up getting the salad and the gypsy, absolutely loved the salad pizza, what a brilliant idea! And the sauce.. you've gotta try it with the sauce which gives it an extra kick!

thin crust, non greasy, non salty, generous portion, fresh ingredients...
=== happy stomach

O, and the nice lady even offered me water... I guess she saw me chowing down the pizzas too quickly, hehe :P

will definitely go back!!!!!!! It was nice to go during a weekday afternoon, easy parking :D

Meh. I've experienced better - sums it up perfectly.
Another local institution I don't get... it isn't Mozza, Gjelina, Angelini or even Mulberry... what is the big fuss?

These guys could probably live without another review, but damn, that is one fine slice of pie. I roll by Abbot's all the time, but it's not often that I feel compelled to have pizza when I'm not busy becoming one with my sofa. Today, after passing by Abbots at least half a dozen times in the span of 24 hours, and having had a little nibble of someone's the night prior on Main, I was in the mood and couldn't resist.

As much as I wanted to try everything I saw on the menu I went with a mixed salad, a slice of the mushroom and a few bites of my concussed companion's spicy chicken. (Knowing I'd easily inhale more than a slice in one seating, the salad just seemed like good insurance.)

The spicy chicken with cilantro, jalapenos, lime and a tomato based sauce was pretty fantastic and had the best tasting crust I have EVER had on a pizza. Ever. I think others have referred to it as a bagel crust, but it was dotted with sesame and poppy seeds and crispy and flavorful and generally fantastic.

As good as it was, I liked the mushroom better. Who knows how many different types of mushroom they had on there but instead of tomato sauce it was made with an olive pesto and it was perfect. This one had a plain crust but it was still thin and crispy and delicious. I had to dab a little of the oil off the top since I can't stand it oily or greasy but even that didn't detract from the yummy factor.

Some have mentioned spacey service and though I thought they were sweet, I'm gonna have to second that since it seemed like they'd all just had their lunch break at the Farmacy next door. Why, yes, I will require a fork to eat that salad. Did you think I was going to eat it with my hands? Yeah, no.

Evidently, prices just went up to 4 bucks a sizable slice, (there was even a Dear John letter posted to the customers to that effect), but once I was chewing away, that was the last thing on my mind.

Oh, and the salad? It was good.

So during a semi-concussed haze brought on by the kitchen light fixture falling on my head, I realized that I was damn hungry.

My short and lovely companion suggested snagging a little something in Venice, we tootled down to Abbot Kinney and set about exploring. My foxy little guide led me to Abbots Pizza and we ventured inside.

I ordered a couple of slices of the Spicy Chicken pizza, that has lime, cilantro, jalapenos and indeed chicken all nesting on a sesame / poppy seed crust (the arm-candy had a slice o' the mushroom)

So - yes - yum. really yum in fact. Not uber-insane hot, but enough spice to set my tongue twitching and leave enough of a gentle burn for me to realize that I should not perform cunnilingus on anyone for a few hours and after a swill or three of mouthwash.

The poppy/sesame seed base... feck me that was good too!

So why doesn't this place get a 5 star review? Well the service = not so good. Our counter lady seemed to have less memory that a 16k computer, meaning that when they were out of forks (for the girlie's salad) she went to get them from storage, then neglected to bring them out to us or even restock the fork bucket. Then, the 4 mins she quoted to me for my pizza to get out of the oven turned to 9 or so with no sign of pie heading in my direction, so I had to go in and get it, which irked me.

At the end of the day though, the pizza was gooooood, which was nice.

I'm a fan kind of despite this place.  Especially since they've introduced the Salad Pizza, which is truly one of the most amazing pizza experiences you'll have.  It looks totally bizarre - like you'll walk by and see people eating that and think to yourself "that freak just ordered a cheese pizza and a salad and just threw the salad on there, and man that looks gross... but he's sure enjoying the hell out of it...maybe i'll try that some time." And then you get it, and it's so messy and bizarre, but it's so delicious that you'll be hooked forever.

Anyway, the service here sucks beyond belief, you wait forever, and not because it's always busy, but more because they're all stoned out of their minds and hate people and shouldn't be working in food service.  But the pizza is good man, so you go back.  And back.

I do have to say, until the Salad Pizza, I was looking elsewhere.  But they have me back.  Get the hot crust if you can handle heat.  It won't disappoint.

My favorite pizza place in all of Los Angeles!!!!

The cheese bomb is the f'ing BOMB. Jalapeno slice too. A little pricey for some pizza but definitely worth it. Love the Abbot Kinney area so this adds to it. Always playing great music (Beatles, Beach Boys) when I go in. A place I like to take visitors when we make the unavoidable Venice Beach or Santa Monica Pier stop. A perfect place to stop on a Sunday afternoon after laying on the beach. I love Abbot Kinney!!!

PS The Santa Monica location is good as well, definitely worth checking out, but not as good as this one.
