Abbot's Habit is a great way to start the morning for anyone who lives in Venice. The coffee is solid (they have lots of different options) and the breakfast menu is legit. If you walk into Abbot's you will always see a cross-section of the Venice Community. All types of people swing into Abbot's on a daily basis and I think that's one of the things that makes this place special. This spot is right in the middle of Abbot Kinney with decent parking around it so it makes for a great place to grab some coffee and then start strolling down the street.

Good Coffee. Good Atmosphere. Good Bagels. Good Times.

A local had told me about Abbot's Habit a long time ago, so I finally decided to stop by for lunch before heading to work.

I didn't actually have any idea what kind of food was served, but was delighted to find that this is a sandwich/sub/salad shop. You could compare their menu selection to a local Subway or Quiznos, except better because they have more options and they serve breakfast items too.

The atmosphere carried  a local coffee shop vibe. Seating was an assortment of tables and booths. We snagged the last table! It was a very busy spot.

I ordered the Vinnie sub. I got it toasted on wheat bread. It was a very solid, fresh sandwich. They put some sort of vinaigrette dressing, which was a nice change for my palette. I ordered a half size, which was huge. I wouldn't suggest ordering the full unless you wanted leftovers or you're a real Brawny man.

My dad wasn't in the mood for a sandwich so he ordered a taco/mexican salad (sorry, Yelpers, I can't remember the exact name). It was average. Not bad, not great. I don't think he was disappointed.

To conclude, this place was very affordable! I think it was only $10 for both of our meals. I'll be sure to come back next time I'm in the mood for a good, healthy sandwich.

If your habit is coffee, then Abott's Habit is a decent cheap local alternative on Abbot Kinney.

My wife and I were pleasantly thrilled to find inexpensive pastries and coffee for a short rest before giving up our parking spot (which anyone who has visited this part of Venice knows are hard to snag).

The service at the counter was fine and the customers hanging out in the side seemed totally at home. Seriously. Some really looked like there were just hanging out in their living room. We plopped down and fit right in. The Coffee was ok and an Almond Pastry for less than $2 helped tide me over.

If I'm in the area and don't have other lunch/dinner plans, I might come back and try Abbot's for one of their salads or sandwiches.

GGRREEATTT!!! lattes. Making espresso drinks is an art,  and Abbott's Habit makes great lattes. I love to come here for a bagel and coffee and would do it every day if I lived closer. I like the atmosphere- the rest of Abbott Kinney is turning into a SEE ME, HEAR ME, LOVE ME IM GREAT and I MIGHT BE FAMOUS zombie parade, and I think Abbott's Habit is the haven Venice needs. Also, owner Nina is the next best thing to sliced bread- she cares about her cafe, her customers and the community; admirable dedication.

Stopped in here the other day when my parents were in town.  Figured it was a good starting point before we began our day exploring the Venice canals and boardwalk.

My parents both got black coffees and a ham and cheese quiche and plain bagel with cream cheese.  I got the fruit cup and a cappuccino.

There was ample seating despite it being a Friday morning.

It's definitely a holistic/healthy type place-my mom wanted hot tea and tomato juice (separately of course).  They had a variety of exotic teas but had a chamomile for her but as for the tomato juice they had naked juice brand type of stuff but no simple v8.

They announce what you order at the counter but not by name or order number.  I guess everyone knows what they got but in the rush hour of coffee I imagine that might be a bit survival of the fittest.

Their bathroom has scrawled graffiti and is very gas station like, right down to the empty cleaning solution bottle they attach the key to.

I'll be back because I love supporting local coffee establishments amongst the conglomerate businesses.

Definitely a busy lunch spot on Abbot and Kinney.  Just popped in for a quick coffee and got one of their specials, the Cadbury Cream.  'Twas delicious and very festive for the Easter season.  While I drank my coffee, I was in direct sight of the kitchen.  I was able to watch how the cooks prepared all the food, which made it even better.  Everything that they were making looked delicious, healthy, and fresh.  Loved that they served fresh juices, which is my weakness.  Will be returning for some lunch and coffee... maybe even a juice.

I haven't been there...per se, but I've had their sandwiches delivered to me courtesy of my fiance. I only want to write about one sandwich, their Bobo. Best on sourdough (wheat just doesn't do it justifce), it comes with chicken, spinach, red onion, and roasted red pepper. It does not matter if I am starving or just somewhat hungry, I will inhale this sandwich.

I came here to have a meeting with a potential client. Got out my tablet, went to get the WiFi Password and.....

What do you mean it's three bucks for WiFi?! We're buying coffee. Might even buy a pas....

...uh, still three bucks? No matter what?

We left and walked off to Intelligentsia. Which not just has free WiFi, you don't even have to buy anything in order to get it. Still bought a latte though. A latte that could've been at Abbot's.

I really did want to try Abbot's. Was all set too. I even picked the place. But three bucks for WiFi? Great for 2001. Today? Not acceptable. Won't be back 'til that rule changes. Sorry but call this #WiFail.

Abbotts Habit is a place you can rely on. A place where you know what you are going to get. I come here every morning for coffee. The Baristas are awesome, the vibe is great, and everything is incredibly reasonable (considering Abbott Kinney prices.)

The food / coffee won't blow you away. You don't come here for that. You come here for comfort, you come here for the morning / lunch routines.

In the mornings I like the combination bagels, or the oatmeal with Banana and Raisins. For lunch I like the Margarita Salads and or/ the Tuna sandwich with a bag of chips.

Come in, see some random celebrities, have some small talks with the people who work there, and get back to work.

Unpretentious laid-back relief from the surrounding  bubble of upscale cuisine.  Unpretentious, moderately-priced, and not bad deli food and coffee.  Great local people watching and meeting hangout.  I'd take it anytime rather than wait at the over-rated Intelligentsia down the street with stuck up baristas and over-priced terrible pastries.  But if you want internet, forget it.... this place subscribes to the bad attitude of free internet means bad business..... that why the Novel cafe will some day no longer be novel....or even open.

I've experienced better - adequately describes my short lived time at abbot's.

I was trying to find a nice local coffee spot, but the iced coffee was watery, and had a strange aftertaste - and to my surprise, we had to pay for internet. Unless I was doing something wrong here, I don't know why any coffee place would charge for internet considering there are so many other options around. but whatever. definitely not going to be my local go-to coffee shop.

A cute coffee place right on Abbot Kinney. I ran in for two coffees & cookies while my bf and I were on a walk with the dog one Saturday night. The guy at the counter was polite and the coffee was good. The food offerings looked tempting. It's nice to have a small coffee place like this for a quick snack while wandering the Blvd as most of the places around here are sit down.

I liked this place, in spite of reading reviews about 3$ for Internet. I didn't ask about Internet during my visit. But I am sure I would have been annoyed about Internet charge as a customer.
I thought the staff where friendly enough for a first timer. I enjoyed my sandwich in a church pew. it was more comfortable than I remember them being.
I think the food is very reasonable priced, if not great for the neighborhood and quality. I would frequent again.

I am in search of a good study location somewhere in the Santa Monica/Venice Area. I had seen Abbot's Habit before, and decided to give that one a try to today. While there was a rather impressive array of teas to be offered, and some vegan cookies (the only vegan thing I saw, but I wasn't really looking too hard) I would overall not recommend this as study area.

There are no plugs for computers, it's noisy, and what got to me most, is the lack of bathroom. What the... it's a coffee place, I think it seems logical that there would be a bathroom. Instead, when I asked where the bathroom was, I was rather rudely pointed towards an old water bottle that has "restroom" taped to it. I had half a mind to use it after the amount of tea that I drank.

Anyway, it is a nice location in Venice and if I was just going to meet a friend here to hang and get a quick lunch, I would be totally into it. However, since I wanted to study and instead had to endure having what may have been the most inane conversation about Dubstep ever had go on next to me, loud music, and no bathroom, I'm not going back there with my books.

This place is the definition of quintessential Venice -- which is why I enjoy it so much.  It's a relatively quiet, unassuming coffee shop that serves pretty good drinks, and is a big locals spot.  The location on Abbot Kinney is very central, and is a great meeting spot, or spot to get things done.

A good litmus test: running into people in LA seems like an out of this world event bc of it's size, and the last 2 times I was at Abbot's Habit, I ran into 2 separate people from different parts of my life there.  Amazing.  Just a great little coffee shop.

The food is okay at best and it's not a good place for getting work done because of the lack of plugs, wifi, and noise level. However, you'd think you were at the library by the way people camp out at the tables. The music is too loud and they play the same handful of songs over and over. The muffins are greasy and the services is barely conscious. Gosh, I'm ranting here. Let me rephrase this review:

If you're walking around Abbot Kinney, this is a great place to buy something cheap and use their bathroom.

The staff here is uber-friendly, the food here is choice. If you are vegan or vegetarian it is a haven - if you're not - it is still fantastic; they have loads of options. They have a great grab-and-go menu too, you can add hemp milk to your drinks(rare), they have an array of vegan cookies, and they support local art.

I was lucky enough to happen upon this Abbotkinney delight a few year ago, and I even was able to enter into a group art show and have some pieces up for a bit.

It is a hip but grounded cafe, and a nice spot to stop and rest your feet.

    Fun and mellow....

After a nice brisk walk down Abbot, my boyfriend and I decided to stop by to grab a drink. We didn't realize it was a deli as well, so we both decided we were hungry! We shared an Abbot Club sandwich with an Iced Chai Tea.

The sandwich was good, however, it was nothing special. I consider myself a sandwich expert and felt that I could have made the sandwich at home- and probably better. Sandwich was a bit overpriced as well ($10-Total: $13?) If that's how much it costs to make a sandwich, then I'll be starting my own sandwich shop SOON!

The Chai tea was tasty. They have 1 extra free refill, which was a plus. Take a drink along for the walk back.

It's a little hard to rate this place as it's like rating a friend.  Every time I come to LA I have my morning coffee here at least once.  This time around the mini sea-saw outdoor tables were gone.  Apparently the city finally got around to telling them they never had a permit for this.  So today, I did a little work inside enjoying a delicious buttery croissant.

Truth be told (not to assume I have been lying all this time) the place is pretty grungy.  It wants to be an un-bathed hippy, but figured the smell would be bad for business.

Somehow this place keeps chugging along, mostly oblivious to the changes on the street it's been serving for so many years.  For as long as I can remember there was a guy that would be there every morning, always beating me there even when I tried.  He looked like Jesus and always leaned up against one of the newspaper boxes.

I haven't seen him for a few years, I'm told he passed away.  I suspect the tidal wave that is Venice will sweep this place aside at some point.  Until then, make sure to stop by.

Rude/apathetic service (ex: When I walk up to you to order, don't pick up the phone as I walk up to you and have a conversation about how you want to snag that apartment down the way and then say the the person on the phone 'i gotta let you go, a customer is waiting and she looks pissed'; another example: homeless person grabs a cup from the garbage, wipes it clean with a napkin and asks for a coffee refill and the same guy fills it!)

Mediocre food (ex: Bobo sandwhich was overloaded and stuff was falling out all over the place. Good flavors but way too much food between two thin slices of sourdough. Chili tasted like it was only made out of tomato paste and onions - gross)

I don't expect much from these hole in the wall places but seriously? For $10, I'm not asking for much, but I could get a better meal from Jack in the Box. Probably better service too.

I got a coffee here; asked, "what is the halfway between a hot chocolate and a regular coffee?" to which the cashier dude replied, "a coffee mocha [something blah blah]," so that was purchased. Asked for extra vanilla powder, charged two quarters but they have it for free where the condiments are. Damn.

Decent pricing though. Park somewhere far, you should walk around Venice anyway.

The bf and I decided to come here for some breakfast before heading to Intelligentsia. The place was pretty busy around 10 AM, but we were a little disappointed at the breakfast options. Hoping for some sort of breakfast sandwich of something of the like, but were a little disappointed to find that most of the breakfast options were not hot options. They have bagels, yogurt, fruit, among other items. We decided to order the brie plate and a parfait that came out to be around $13-14. The brie plate had a decent amount of cheese, a sliced apple, some grapes, and a roll. The bread is what it is ... a roll =( not a baguette or anything toasted for that matter. The parfait on the other hand was huge! It will definitely fill you up!

Overall, thought the place was just ok. Everyone seemed to be ordering the everything bagel, maybe I'll try that if I'm ever back for another visit.

Got there all the time to get my morning snack and sometimes for lunch.

    1) their smoothies are AWESOME. Taste great and are a big size (that's what she said). But for those looking to limit their amount of food intake, a  morning Sunshine Smoothie is a good supplement for lunch.

    2) Cajun Tuna - THE. BEST. Get it as a half sandwich, or whole (will make for two lunches to share) or a salad (w/ avocado) is bomb dot com.

    3) The staff - always chill, laid back, helpful hipsters. Recommend food they like instead of trying to upsell.

    4) The people - cool, venice crowd with a celebrity from time to time. (Skipper from Sex and the City...you know the curly haired dude that screwed Miranda from time to time till she got with Steve...is a regular there).

    5) The ambiance - awesome. love the ever changing art on the wall. makes for a good vibe.

    6) Location - if you go there for coffee, there's a bunch of restaurants around the area to grab a bite, drink or retail stores where you can try on some homeless-chique-overpriced venice hipster gear.

Make a Habit to go to Abbot's.

The inside is not too inviting, but there were plenty of people studying and just looking like they were there all day. The service is meh but the prices are good and the drinks are good.

It's a hole-in-the-wall cafe.  There are drinks, some food and sturdy seats and tables. Employees aren't rude; you're just in Venice. Sure there are vagrants, but again, you're in Venice. They're not that scary though.

I didn't try their coffee but the watermelon juice they sell in a bottle is quite delicious. What does suck is there are no power outlets.

Bottom line is, it's a good (only other) place to go if Intellgentsia is too crowded (or closed early for a holiday party).

After tonight's trip to Abbot's Habit I decided this review needs an update in honor of the "All-Nighter" ice blended beverage. Some say there's no such thing has a vegan ice blended, and to those people I raise my index, middle, and ring fingers and say: "read between the lines, haters".

Not only is their mixture of chai, soy milk, and espresso very tasty, but when asked if their chai was absolutely vegan the lovely gentleman behind the counter removed the chai jug from the fridge and let me read the ingredients without the slightest look of contempt on his face. Now that's service!

I had a croissant which was super fresh, flaky and buttery. Lots of freaks out front so you'll get a good dose of Venice culture when visiting Abbot's Habit. Abbott's Bad Habit.

I have to be mister tree humper cranky pants on this one.  I'm so bummed that this hip, local coffee joint only serves coffee in disposable cups.  That's crazy to me considering that most people drink their coffee there on site.

Other than that, it's good except for the chick at the cash register who is alway angry and rude. She's the one in the hat all of the time with the sandy colored blond hair.

The coffee is fine and the people really make this spot.  It's a great location and there is always somebody you know or want to know (wink wink).

I'd heard so many good things about this place and couldn't wait to try it out - but it was a huge let down. The staff was kind of spacey...although maybe the guy who served me was a new guy because he had to look up the price of my drink when he was ringing my drink up. My iced chai latte was extremely watery and strangely pink colored. The place was louder and much less cozy than coffee places should be.

There are so many really good coffee places in the Santa Monica/Venice area that I probably wouldn't go back to this place for the watery drinks and noisy atmosphere.

After a nice day in Venice, and a delicious late lunch/drinking session, my best friend and i were tipsy/starting to get tired and it wasn't even 8p.m. yet. And that's when we knew that it was time for some caffeine. (We also had to find something to do since neither of us were okay to drive.) So we wandered over to Abbot's Habit. It seemed to be the least trendy/most laid back coffee place in the area, and that's how we roll.

They were advertising their new Pumpkin Spice Latte (which i am a huge sucker for), so i opted for one of those, with soy & an extra shot of course. While i was watching them make it, i noticed that they use ACTUAL pumpkin puree, not some concentrated syrup or powder mix-in. Leggitttt. When i got it, it was strong, super rich, barely sweet, super thick, and tasted homemade. I really liked it, and it got the job done. 20 minutes later my bestie and i were good to go, wide awake, and ready to start our night. :)

I really liked all of the Venice artwork they had hanging on the walls. It gave the place a very beachy/homey feel. They seemed to have a pretty good sized menu and judging by the other reviews, apparently it's pretty damn good. I'll have to come back one of these days and give some other items a try. :] 4 stars for now.

Just exactly how did the Prehistoric Man survive day after day without his coffee? The caffeine rush would have come in handy when dodging dinosaurs and fashioning new spears for defense. I was hunting for some delicious coffee the other night in the treacherous wilds known as Venice, CA..

Hunters and gatherers abounded in the Abbot's Habit Coffee Shop, some even fully adorned with caveman hair and caravan-esque clothing. I braved the threshold and entered the dwelling. Ochre colored walls surrounded rustic furniture, mostly wooden banquettes and tables. Paintings upon the wall (which I believe rotate occasionally) depicted a strange, paleolithic world of lost souls, further adding to the unintended primitive ambiance.

Since it was my first time visiting this foreign place, I decided to go with a safe choice: The Mocha. They had two kinds available, the coffee based one and the espresso based one. Since it was nighttime, I decided to go with the coffee based option. Here again I was struck with a primordial sense of forboding...the mocha was not good. It tasted like coffee with an overly sugared chocolate bar (generic, not Hersey) thrown in at the last minute. Being that I love both coffee and chocolate, I was saddened at this mutated offspring of the two. Rather than complain, and being short on time, I suffered through the beverage in silence.

The soul beacon of light in my visit was the customer service. The two gentleman behind the counter were both friendly and cordial, yet I'm pretty sure one of them must have made that awful brew I ordered. I cannot foresee visiting this coffee bar in the near future

There are many good places for coffee and sandwich in Venice, and this place is not the best one for me, so I give just 3 stars...
But there's a story that I want to tell on the review.

The other night, I went there to get a sub sandwich to go for my dinner ( I prefered to get one from Stroh's but they close 5 or some...), I ordered "The Paulie", the guy at the counter noted on a piece of paper as I asked for it on a wheat bread and no tomato.
Then I got my Paulie 10 min later, it came with that small paper.

The small note said, "No Tom" which mean "no tomato".
The funny thing is, I just have been overcoming from the hard pain of the breakup with a guy whose name was Thomas, yes, Tom.
