This is a great little place for some great BBQ! I had the Cowboy Bowl with beef and chicken. HUGE helping of food - had to take about half home it was so much! Great smokey flavor in the meat and the sauce is awesome!
Not a place for a large group to go to, unless you go on a Saturday when the weekday crowds are not there. It's right in the heart of eastern Kearny Mesa, near Ruffin Road and Clmt Mesa Blvd, so there's tons of weekday business there.
I definitely want to go back again and again!! -

How many times did I stop by Abbey's for a pulled pork sandwich before the days of Yelp? Im not sure, but Abbey knew who I was and would occasionally try to get me to eat something different. Growing up on Kansas BBQ with sweeter bbq sauce I came to like the tangy spice of the texas style they serve and now prefer it. I really never tried anything other than the pulled pork sandwich, but I know that is excellent. Fries are pretty good to.
Now beware, this is the Abbey's on Clairemont, NOT the one on Miramar. They have extremely similar names, but are not related. Once got a groupon thinking it was for the one on Clairemont, only to learn it was for the other. The one on Miramar is very disappointing and I only used half the groupon. -

This is a great little hole-in-the-wall restaurant. Virtually no atmosphere but the food is excellent and Abbey is there to make you feel at home.
We've eaten here several times and have tried nearly everything on the menu and have always come away satisfied. All the meats are smoked to perfection and the sauce is as good as I've had (and that includes BBQ throughout Texas).
Try the Pulled Pork Southern Style or the Cowboy Stew both will hit the spot if you are hankerin' for that good 'ol taste of Texas.
