Besides providing peace and quiet, the Abbey is also known as New Clairvaux Vineyard  also grows grapes and makes award-winning wines. Two vineyards -- St. James and Poor Souls -- produce varied Mediterranean-style wines. The tasting room is stunning and tastings are free. The winery is open seven days a week.  The property originally belonged to Peter Lassen and was later purchased by Leland Standford. Prior to Prohibition, it was the largest winery in the world. Surrounded by beautiful walnut orchards, the Abbey and Winery are in the heart of the olive growing region of Corning. Way, way off the beaten path it's well worth the journey. Enjoy other products along the Tehema County Farm Trail.

The Abbey of New Clairvaux is a Cistercian Trappist monastery situated on 600 acres of orchards and vineyards.  Quarters are provided for guests making self-directed retreats, and retreatants are welcome to join the monks for Divine Office and Mass daily.  For a city dweller, a retreat at Vina offers an incomparable escape from the distractions that can make it hard for us to hear God's call. "A strong and heavy wind was rending the mountains and crushing rocks before the LORD--but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake--but the LORD was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake there was fire--but the LORD was not in the fire. After the fire there was a tiny whispering sound" (1 Kings 19:11-12).

The Abbey is reconstructing an 800-year old Chapter House from a Cistercian Monastery in Ovila, Spain. Read more about the project at http://sacredstones.org.
