What can I say?  They are just great!  We wanted to replace the carpet in our master bedroom.  They came out and measured our place that day.  Then, when we came into the shop, they showed us around and gave us lots of ideas.  The owner suggested that I look at one particular stain-resistant carpet that's also ecologically friendly (or, at least, more so than some others).  I really liked it, but kept looking to make sure I had picked the right one.  When I started asking about another, similar carpet in the store, he said, "I'll sell you that if you want.  But, it's a lot more expensive than the other one you like and I don't think it's worth the extra cost."   Awesome!

We scheduled our carpet installation and had to reschedule it three times due to another contractor that was working in our house.  They didn't complain at all and happily rescheduled.  Yesterday, they did the work - it looks amazing.  Fast, professional, and we love the new carpet.  They used high quality padding, so it's very comfortable to the feet, in addition to looking great.

Abbey is priced mid-range.  You could probably get something cheaper at Home Depot... but if you are looking for a mid-range or higher end carpeting, you will be really pleased that you choose Abbey.

We finally decided to replace all the carpets in our place (master bedroom, 3 closets, stairs, loft and the nursery room).. so, as a typical engineer, I wanted to know my options to make an informed decision. Our criteria was:

    1). Help moving the furniture
    2). Recycling the old carpet
    3). Licensed and insured installers
    4). Trusting the company

1). Our first choice was Costco (100% satisfaction guaranteed, right?). First bad sign was getting a call back from them (we were supposed to get a call around 2 days after we left them a voicemail, took them like 5 days). Finally someone came home, took measurements and promised to send us a quote within 3 days. Took around 7 days to get the quote by email. In the meantime I research reviews online and between their delays getting back to us AND their bad reviews online, that discarded Costco.

2). Second choice was Home Depot. Carpet prices and selection seem more competitive, but, as mentioned by many other reviews, once you start adding services (installation, disposal of old carpet, moving furniture, etc), prices quickly start adding up. The salesman tried to discourage me to use their services to move furniture and disposal:  "It would be cheaper and better if you get friends to help you moving your furniture and find a place to dump your old carpet".. I guess for people with more experience Home Depot could be a good option.. I didn't get a good feeling about it, so we passed..

3). Third option: Empire today. I was torn between their bad reviews online AND the nice guy who came home to show us carpets, explain the whole process while trying to give us confidence that everything would be allright.. While asking friends for reviews about Empire Today, someone mentioned "why not using someone local?", so before choosing Empire Today, we decided to search locally

4). While reading reviews for "California Capet", I learned about Abbey Carpet (they're very close to each other).. We visited both places and I'm so glad we choose Abbey Carpet:

    - One of the owners took the time to explain to us all our options for carpets.. we made an appointment to get the measurements at home the following week (they allowed us to take their sample carpet for the one we liked back home with us, so we could make sure it matched all other colors at home)
    - We got a quote the next day after the measurements.
    - Installers showed up on time (9am) and by 4pm they were done. Very professional, helpful and fast.

Even after the sale they're still following up with us to confirm our satisfaction.. Highly recommended!!

I looked extensively around the area before choosing Abbey Carpets and John Larson to do my floors. I am extremely satisfied with my result for a number of reasons:

    1. The product I chose and the quality of the installation have given me the most beautiful floors I could possibly imagine.
    2. The workmanship of John and his team exceeded my expectations.
    3. The pricing of my flooring was competitive with other stores, and included extra benefits that were not offered by others.
    4. I ended up hiring Abbey to install numerous carpets in my home as well.

First, the flooring that I chose was the result of John doing extensive research to find something that was suitable for me. I was worried for example about the impact of shoes and high heels on my floor. John took the extra time to research and procure a brand new line of flooring just for me. This flooring featured full grain woods that had that beautiful "beat up" look of more expensive woods alongside an amazing, smooth finish. I have had plenty of people come through the house with different shoes and have yet to notice any damage!

Second, John came in and installed the flooring throughout 4 rooms and a hall in my house. He did all the closets, installed beautiful baseboard, and he also dealt with key transitions between the flooring and tile I had in the kitchen and marble I had on the fireplace. Every door jam came out perfectly. He went the extra mile to make the job perfect. Also, when one of my boards came up scratched a few months later, John came and replaced it for me using my extra wood. John is a rare guy who lives up to his word.

Third, John was able to offer an equal price to competitors but threw in these extra steps mentioned above for free. The wood he was offering was also superior to that offered by the competitors such as larger flooring companies and Home Depot.

Fourth, because John did such a standup job, we hired his team to install carpets throughout the house where it was needed. Again, he delivered superior workmanship at a competitive price.

John is a rare, old-school guy who knows his trade better than anyone I spoke with and I researched this project for over a year before beginning. I would highly recommend you mention to John that you read this Yelp Review, so that you can ask him which particular flooring he sold me. He also has pictures of it.

The end result is that everyone who sees my floors talks about how beautiful they are. They are bright and shiny but hold that deep rich wood grain that show the fine craftsmanship of John, his materials, and his team.

    Thanks John!

    Ben

We were looking for an area rug, but couldn't find any places that had the style/color we wanted. I read some Yelp reviews that recommended this place, because they do area rugs out of regular carpets or remnants. We ended up choosing a berber style rug, which they had bound for us. We got a 10x13 instead of an 8x10 because of the size of the carpet, but it worked well for us. The price was competitive with a 8x10 rug, and he was really helpful.  I would definitely double check their delivery timelines/info. I kept getting different dates from 2 different people. One guy said we'd get it in a week, one  said we'd get it in 2 weeks, one said the delivery was $50, the other said $60... you get my drift. All in all though, I'd go back to them for rugs or maybe even hardwoods (which they also have).

Abbey carpets in San Carlos is the real deal. After the previous owners moved out of our new house, we learned that the carpet needed to be replaced, but we had less than one week before our move-in. They were able to get the exact carpet we wanted sent up from LA and installed in the same week, which saved us from the hassle of delaying the move into those rooms. Home Depot had a very limited selection of carpets available for installation on that timescale, and they were just cheap commodity-style carpets. Others would have taken at least 2-3 weeks. John really knows his flooring, dropping of keys/signing contracts was really easy, and the installation was done very well. The showroom is pretty neat: they actually install different types of carpet, laminates, and hardwoods in various sections so they can see how they will wear under heavy-use conditions. You don't get that kind of attention to detail at a big-box store. We're going back soon to do more carpets.

Abbey Carpet was helpful.  They were also reliable.  They found the floor I needed very quickly, they called to make sure it was at the warehouse, they ordered it and it arrived the next day like they said it would.  The salesman and manager were both kind, professional and efficient.  I picked up the actual vinyl flooring at their receiving location around the block and they too were kind and efficient.
