If there is one thing that I can NOT handle, it is stress. It seems I am always getting myself into epic messes, and this time I was dealing with a DISASTER.

After many a quarrel with management and my landlord to get the plumbing in my apartment fixed, the inevitable happened. My apartment flooded with sewage. I was forced to live in a hotel for over two weeks .I had to throw out many of my possessions, get new furniture, new carpets, and mold had to be removed from the bathrooms.

Everything was running smoothly but when my roommate went to renew the lease he was denied! For absolutely no reason!

Sure enough, when he returned there was an e-mail from our landlord telling us that the building management decided "the tenants" (we) could not renew and that we had to vacate the apartment at the end of the lease. The lease that would expire in UNDER THREE DAYS!

Needless to say, I was freaking out. I frantically surveyed google and I made a few calls but nearly everyone I spoke to seemed impatient and they pushed me to make an appointment immediately before even hearing why I might have needed their services.

    I had to know NOW!

This was an extremely urgent matter, not something that could "wait a few days". I had to know QUICK if I needed to be packing and moving everything into storage..

It was getting to the point I was afraid I would never sleep again... I turned to Yelp for help and got Aaron on the line. I explained my situation and he was 100% straight forward. He told me that (in this case) the law was completely on my side and I might not even need his services.

Being the kind of person, who just NEEDS TO KNOW I can not express how much I appreciated how he put my mind at ease. He did this by not only by explaining to me "why" and "how" the law is behind me, but by literally pulling out (and giving me my own personal copy of) the Chicago Municipal Code.

He then pointed out the exact infractions of not only the landlord, but the Building Management Company as well. Then in layman's terms... he looked at us with his big movie star smile (did I mention he's gorgeous?) and said "You have NOTHING to worry about".

Aaron was honest, he told us how to deal with the situation (without him) but I insisted that the last thing I wanted to do, was deal with, not only...

    A) A terrible management company excising personal revenge on me for making them replace the carpets

    B) Their team of Lawyers

    C) And I most certainly did NOT want to deal with the...

"Oh, I'm such a big man because I use fancy words of intimidation. I know everything there is to KNOW about rental properties. I mean, I do own several of them (I somehow get the impression he is speaking of the basement suite in his town-home).

My favorite response to any confrontation is to illustrate my high familial status. If you were not aware?!? EVERYONE in my family are all lawyers. All my friends? oh you guessed it!!! They are lawyers too!!! I even have a friend who is a doctor AND a lawyer AT THE SAME TIME.

So... yeah.... that means I'm pretty much a lawyer 2"

jerk boyfriend --  who appointed himself as Her "legal agent" and official mouthpiece regarding ALL correspondence. He did this not out of actual legal responsibility, as much as his need to impress his girlfriend (our landlord) who he so lovingly calls "Babe"

Needless to say, I didn't want to deal with any of these horrific people ever again - and thanks to Aaron I haven't had to!

I'm still in my apartment (20 days later) and I have plenty of time to move out comfortably. Perhaps I may even be a little more discriminate in finding somewhere that might actually be habitable... but if I fail, I know Aaron will be there for me.

I would recommend Aaron A. Krolik to anyone in any kind of Tenant / Landlord dispute. He truly rocks.

    Thank you Aaron.

I had a horrible rental experience (please see my New Management review) that I desperately needed to get out of....Aaron Krolik saved my a#$.

I found him online, phoned and was told for $500 he would peruse my lease and give his opinion on my case.  I had the lease (although many pages that should be included in a rental agreement were not present) and got the check reqs from my bank for where my rental checks and security deposit checks have gone (New Management had complied).  I was ready for our first meeting

Aaron is not a man to mince words.  He told me instantly that I may not have a case.  He'll see what he can do.  I was intimidated, and then I thought....this is EXACTLY the quality I want in a lawyer.  We discussed my options and he drafted letters to the management company.

He bantered back and forth with the property manager and apparently said the right thing and they let me out of the lease.

To make a long story short I also got my full deposit (with pet deposit) back 3 months later.

He's not a miracle worker. I was in a poor rental situation.  But if you need to get out of a lease (for legit reasons) it will be the best $500 you have ever spent

I am not sure if some of the reviews are written by Aaron himself, but what I am sure about is that I will never work with him again. He was very hyped up as a lawyer who can break a lease. To say that he didn't live up to the hype would be an understatement.

First off, from the very beginning this guy was impossible to get in touch with. Yes, I understand he's a lawyer and that he's busy. But aren't we all? It seemed like he's doing me a favor by calling me back. Seriously? Ironically, he was very easy to reach prior to taking my money and depositing it the same day.

Second, he was hyped up to be "the best" and able to break any lease. He cannot. The largest portion of the renter's sector in the city of Chicago is through AtProperties. If your lease is through those guys, beware. He cannot break it.

Third, his demeanor is what threw me off from the start. He comes across as a rude and arrogant guy. And, needless to say, he is. This guy just makes you feel like he's spent too much time discussing matters with you. His one-word type of responses are ridiculous. I really can't see him staying in business for long.

Granted, Aaron did refund my money, hence the two stars instead of one. I just felt like this guy was a joke from the very beginning. Very unprofessional and a complete waste of time.

Aaron Krolik helped me out so much that it's unbelievable. I had originally paid a "not-for-profit" organization to do absolutely nothing about my nasty, shady lease situation. Within days of going to Aaron, I was feeling assured that my slumlords would be no longer my problem.

Aaron was eventually able to get my security deposit AND pre-paid rent back. I lost NOTHING. He is truly amazing at his job, and will definitely help you out if you've been bitten by a slumlord.

I highly recommend his legal services.

Attorney Krolik is a no nonsense and professional attorney.  I needed to break a lease...the place was falling apart literally and figuratively.  Mr. Krolik read my lease found an error.. a big one and I was able to move out and had my security deposit returned.  Need I say more....?

Aaron K. at Security Deposit Law was an absolute Godsend.  I've heard it happens a lot here in Chicago, where a landlord tries to keep your deposit, either  to make money or for maintenance that is not the tenant's responsibility.  Well, my landlord tried to keep over $2000 of my money. So unhappy (literally crying),  I went to the internet, found Aaron, and the rest is history.  He helped me get my deposit back and more.  There are so many dirty slumlords out there, who do not do things by the book,. Aaron helps to fight them for you.  Thank you so much, Aaron Krolik.  You are a lifesaver.  I'm sure I'll need your services again!

Aaron did a fine job getting me and my family get out of a rotten situation with a bad landlord.  I am very thankful I came across him on Yelp.  Thank you Yelpers and thank you Aaron!

This is long overdue review but one that must be done.  I've worked with Aaron Krolik on two separate cases now and each time he has produced superior results.  Aaron is an expert in his field and the depth of his knowledge provides peace of mind when you're going through the often uncomfortable process of pursuing legal action.  Aaron did an excellent job of educating me about my available courses of action and demonstrated an exceptional level of organization throughout the process.  He did an excellent job of maintaining open communication as my case progressed.  In each of my cases, Aaron represented me well and delivered the exact outcome he outlined prior to filing the case.  Taking a stand against your landlord can be difficult to do, but I would encourage anyone considering it to speak to Aaron.  He will listen carefully to your case and provide honest feedback on what recourse you have available.
