Only Indian cuisine in Beckley, WV! We came on a Saturday night after the movies. Us being from Virginia decided earlier to get lost in the area to see what they had to offer. I was ecstatic when I saw a sign for Aangan. The place is small but clean and brightly colored. We came at 930 and the service was great. The food was dope! We ordered Butter Chicken and Tomatar Pappu (lentils and tomatoes, yummy!) ample side of rice and an order of naan. The chicken was savory and slightly spicy, they know what they are doing! The lentils were flavorful, light, and filling. Next rafting excursion we are pleased to know that we found a decent restaurant in the middle of nowhere! Hopefully the residents of Oak Hill and Fayetteville will abstain from their nutritious and fulfilling diets of mediocre Mexican food and Shoney's to realize that there is a restaurant that has some style and is flavorful!

Oh man, what HAPPENED to this place?
I first came here in September of last year, and the place was rockin'. I was so glad we tried it out. I had Malahi Kofta last time, and of course we ordered Naan.
A local friend has never tried Indian food before, so we went to Aangan today. It was quite literally a Kitchen Nightmares experience. Wait until you hear this hot mess. I'll at least try to make this entertaining.for you.
AN EMPTY PARKING LOT AND RESTAURANT ARE A BAD SIGN.
I've noticed that Aangan is usually fairly empty, but I thought it was more about the locals not really being into Indian food. I wonder if this place has said screw quality BECAUSE locals aren't into Indian food. I digress.
I could tell immediately that the two waitresses (one who was obviously in training) who greeted us when we walked in would much rather have been sacrificing babies to Satan than helping us. Seriously, how hard is it to dole out two menus and point to a table with a half assed smile on your face?
They were out of mango lassi. Whatevs. So, we got garlic naan and samosas. I had potatoes vindaloo, my friend had a lamb curry dish.
The chutneys were awesome, but the samosa tasted microwaved and they were stingy with the bread. The bread was also NOT hot pillowy naan like you'd expect, but this weird communion wafer type naan.
My dish came and the potatoes tasted canned, and the spice slightly "off". My friend's lamb dish had no flavor. None. I know, right? it's Indian food. It should have flavor. But it didn't.
"I thought, " she said, "it would just have some spices in it or something. I thought Indian food was supposed to be really flavorful and spicy."
The rice was VERY obviously heated up in a microwave.
While I was choking down my meal (yea imma eat it if I'm paying $10+ for it,) a pest control truck rolled up outside.
The pest control man came in with a spray can and said loudly to the waitresses, "What seems to be the problem?"
Later on, I remarked on the pest control issue to the waitress. I swear to God this is what she said:
"Well, it's a routine spray and all restaurants have pest control issues, I promise you."
Oh rrrrreally?? Because that didn't look like a "routine spray". A person doesn't come in (IN FRONT OF DINING CUSTOMERS OMG) and say WHAT SEEMS TO BE THE PROBLEM if it's a routine spray. Also, I can assure you that not all restaurants require the pest control man to be on speed dial like yours.
Anyway, I laughed my ass off. My friend's head exploded.
You might want to avoid Aangan unless you want mild to moderate food poisoning. I'm honestly not feeling too well. Also, you may find the Vindaloo Termite Eggs or the Chicken Tikkamacockroach to be unappetizing. I would suggest a really good sense of humor and a tagamet if you plan on going to this place. -

You have to wonder why these guys don't want to succeed? The have decent food when they try. The just don't seem to care. I was in earlier in the week for lunch at12:30PM. The food bar was in really bad shape. The potato dish was cold on the hot bar, the Chicken Tikka Masala was void of any chicken. Even the service was poor. The table behind me ended up leaving before being served. I did not get my ice water until I was done with my meal. The did not stock the bar in the 35 minutes I was there and it was almost empty on my arrival. I'm so disappointed because I live Indian food.

This is not at all Indian. In the name of chicken65, they gave some chicken curry. Not even a single dish tasted in the way it actually should. We had an awful experience. They say this is the only indian restaurant in this 40 mile radius but there is nothing "Indian" even in this restaurant.
