Just because of the prices and how affordable it is.

Scallion pancake are large and the best thing. Fish Balls, chicken drum stick, spring rolls, and so many other items here.

They are not over the top restaurant quality or the best I ever had. It is convenient and cheap and right next to the train station. If your also waiting for a bus trips, this is a perfect place to pick up some snakes.

If you hungry and only have a few dollars in your pocket, don't go to Mc Donalds for 3 sandwiches, go here for food that will fill you up more and taste 10x better.

If you have a brain you will understand why this is worth a 5 star.

Nestled underneath the LIRR Flushing train tracks on Main St., is a series of kiosks selling food to passersby. Items vary from lo mein, dumplings, scallion pancakes, chicken drumsticks, fish balls, spring rolls and a few other items. Crowds hawk in front of these stands, sometimes, making it walk along this side of Main St., damn nearly impossible. Indeed the food is cheap, and you sort of have to expect the quality of food you would be getting at this price standpoint. I've always avoided these places because of sheer stress and doubt of the quality of their food.

But because Zhu Ji had such a long line going out the door and in my opinion, a decline in quality of their food, I decided to check out AA Plaza. I got 3 orders of the Steamed Pork Buns (4 for $1.25) and a couple Scallion Pancakes ($1.00 each). A total of $5.75 for 12 pork buns and 2 scallion pancakes and I was on my way in about a minute or two.

Let me emphasize that the Small Pork buns are small white bun-like sliders, not dumplings! The pork buns consist mainly of fluffy white breading, attributed from its method of cooking which is steam. Inside is a ball of ground pork with chives or scallions for added flavor. Decent though nothing to go head over heels for. One thing worth noting is that the ground pork filling is not consistent from one bun to the next. I found one bun had almost double the meat as another one. For the price, you can find much better places to go to or I'd even dare to say to just go to the Chinese bakery for dai baos which probably have twice the amount of meat as compared to 4 pork buns.

The scallion pancakes are thick in consistency averaging a little over 1/4", causing it to be somewhat doughy. There is a subtle hint of crispiness to them from the frying method, but I like for my scallion pancakes to be thinner and crispier. The scallion pancakes are also under-seasoned, screaming to have it sprinkled with some salt or soy sauce.

AA Plaza is not my place of choice, but it does have some advantages: quick service and cheap prices for the budget-conscious. It's great when you're on the go or rushing to catch the bus or train, but I'd still prefer to go around the corner to Zhu Ji for equally priced dumplings and buns.

It's difficult to be tough on businesses that specialize in $1 street food. Dropped by the other day looking for a cheap fix, and since I couldn't score any crack, I hit up AA Plaza.

Long window with menu overhead covers the 15 foot walkup storefront with 5 employees furiously trying to keep up with the throngs of passersby that stop for a quick bite.

The spicy fish balls on a stick are a hit. Slightly spicy and quite tasty.

Scallion pancakes were a little too doughy for my tastes and didn't have a ton of flavor. I'd miss this one.

Pork buns for $1.25 are a "pricey" item on the menu and not amazing, but at that price along with everything else on the menu is such a steal that you can do no wrong here.

    Great snack spot.

If you like street foods, AA Plaza is the place to go.  Small shacks take up the space underneath the LIRR in Flushing.  This is the epitome of cheap eats.  There are vendors who sell fish balls, fried chicken legs, scallion pancakes, steamed little buns, soy milk, noodles, veggie fried rice, spring rolls and other delicious snacks.

In the fist shack, you can get $1.00 worth of fish balls.  There are 4 big balls per stick.  They come spicy or regular.  The spicy has good flavor, and the regular is good too if you can't take the heat.  These fish balls large and plump, soft and very filling.  The spicy fish tofu on a stick is delicious too.  They are rectangular in shape and 3 per stick.  In this stall there is corn on a cob (corn with yellow, white and purple kernels), fried chicken legs, and tea eggs.  The spicy fish balls and spicy fish tofu on a stick is in a rice cooker that is filled with chili and hot sauce, soaking in all that flavor.  The fried chicken legs are two for $1.00.  They come to you hot and have flavor.

If you go further about 2 to 3 stalls down you can get decent soy milk for $.75 a container, which is hot and you can get it sweetened or unsweetened.  This stall also sells scallion pancakes for $1.00.  At times you can see them cook up these pancakes, as fresh batter is placed on the heated griddle.  In between is the shack that has the small steamed buns that are $1.25 for four.  These are filling as well.  The meat is flavored with five spice powder and other spices, the skin is thick and doughy and you can get full on just 2 or 3.  Try to get these fresh, I think these taste better in the morning.  But if you can't eat them up or take them to go, you can always warm them in the microwave.

There are other goods to be had too like green bean soup and other fried noodles.  This place reminds me of Hong Kong, where you will see street vendors selling snacks like fish balls near train stations and movie theaters.

If you are on a minimum budget you can come here and eat like a king and pay like a pauper and still have some money left.  Just beware that this place can get very busy.  There are sometimes throngs of people clogging the streets and lots of people lining up here.  There is no order to this mess.  If you see a line, just stand on it.  Other times, there will be no lines, but globs of people.  It will be extremely disorderly and you can be jumped if you don't place an order fast.  Vendors are used to big crowds and clear business quickly.  If you don't speak Mandarin, try English or Cantonese or put your digits to use and point.

I love flushing for its really good cheap food.

Scallion pancake bigger than my face for $1?! REALLY good fried drum sticks for 50 cents?

They also have a lot of the dimsum classics and a lot of the togo chinese restaurant classics as well. FOR REALLY CHEAP. Yelp warned me about the long lines but there wasn't any when I came :) #WINNING

If you're watching your weight, do not come here. Everything's really oily. If you're watching your wallet, DO come by.

I love the huge scallion pancakes here!  Yes, they are greasy but they are just so damn flavorful, chewy, crispy and just delicious.  Plus you can wash away the guilt with the fresh soymilk.  It's happiness for less than $2.

I'd probably give AA Plaza an easy 4-5 stars if the food was consistently good, but it's hardly the best streetside Chinese food I've had, just among the cheapest. At essentially a $1 or slightly more for one of everything, it's become a staple for cheap eats on the go for all who are in Flushing.

Hate crowds? Avoid this place during the lunch hour rush and during the weekends, the lines aren't really even lines as they're just piles of people all shouting their orders over each other as they make their way toward the window. Being just as aggressive has it's perks, but in the end, it's a very backwards way of going about getting cheap food.

Just how cheap exactly? It used to be a $1 or less a few years ago, but now scallion pancakes are roughly $1.25 each and I think fish balls are still a $1.00 and fried chicken drumsticks are $1.50 I believe for two. The rice noodle crepe (cheurng fun) is a little more than a $1, depending on the filling. The street side siu mai is also a $1 or more, as is the pork buns and lo mein combos.

But regardless of the price, the food has certainly seen it's share of ups and downs. The scallion pancake in all of it's cheap glory has been everything from fresh to super mediocre. I love siu mai, but their version has often been more dry than not. And while the chicken drumsticks, lo mein, and pork buns are all the rage, they're also incredibly greasy / oily and have been bland on more than one occasion. One item that I can get nearly without fail are the fish balls, steamed and kebab'd to near perfection, a drizzle of the curry sauce and it makes for the perfect treat with no need for utensils or much of an appetite really.

Whenever i show newcomers around Flushing, I'll bring them by AA Plaza to show them the rock bottom pricing, but will rarely ever subject them to the food. It'll happen one of these days I suppose, but in the meantime I always have the underground malls to keep their hunger pangs (and mine) at bay.

Yes I said it, 5 stars! Forget the environment, forget the atmosphere, forget the pushy, loud and obnoxious people. You come to AA Plaza for the food, and that's it!  That being said, let's talk about what I consider to be some of the best fish balls and steamed pork buns that $1 can buy. You can come here with literally $5 and leave stuffed to capacity. Fish balls,, I recommend the spicy ones, scallion pancakes that are soft, chewy and full of flavor, and not to mention so big they could serve as a mask! Steamed pork buns so delicate and light and perfectly steamed that they just disappear inside your mouth. Fried chicken drumsticks 75 cents each or 2 for $1. Open 24 hours. Come loaded or sober and with plenty of singles, this is a great place to feed the need!

If you're in Flushing with the intent of eating up a storm, AA Plaza should be one of your stops.  This is Flushing street food at its best.  And by best, I mean fast, cheap, and disorderly (and I mean that in the nicest way).  It's really an experience.  If you have a few dollars in your pocket, you can leave here quite full.  I come here almost exclusively for the fish balls (they remind me of my childhood, when my grandmother would fry them up for me and my sister).  The fish balls are pretty good, not the best I've ever had (comparing anything to my grandmother's cooking is just unfair), but they hit the spot.  The spicy ones are delicious but I find that the level of spice is inconsistent.  Some days they're just the right amount of spice and other days, they're so spicy, I can't even enjoy them.  Still, AA Plaza is worth a visit.  Make sure you've got your money in your hand and are willing to be just a little rude to make sure your order is heard (Don't mind the people who blatantly cut the line.  That's just how it is!  Be aggressive, people!).

4 pork buns for $1.25 - awesome, fresh, flavorful, tasty.  That's all you need to know.  Buy extra for 50 cents.

4 spicy fish balls for $1 - spicy (kind of like the stuff you put in hot pot broth to make it spicy) yummy fish balls.

One of my top reasons to look forward to warm weather? The prospect of sauntering down Main Street in Flushing with little more than $5 in my pocket and feasting till I can barely walk back to the subway. Part of that experience will always include a stop at AA Plaza for a pair of crispy, juicy chicken drum sticks (2 for $1), a giant, chewy scallion pancake ($1), spring rolls (2 for $1) and and order of pork buns (4 for $1.25).

If you want to be a real piggy, the offerings don't stop there...fried rice, lo mein, dumplings, corn, fish balls and more. No matter the combination, you can legit fill your belly for under $5, or a just wee bit more if stuffing yourself is on the agenda. Just figure out what you want, step up to the counter order with the quickness and get out of the way! Cash only, no frills, this-is-that-real-shit street food.

There's something very gratifying about eating balls on a stick. Fish balls on a stick. Deep-fried flavored fish balls on a stick. And especially when you're walking down Main street. Is it any Asian thing? Maybe.

It's a bit chaotic at the stands on a weekend since you don't know where the line starts or ends. So you have to be aggressive.

I mean I've had fried fish balls before, but never so plump and chewy. That consistency is what makes a fish ball so great. And the MSG probably doesn't hurt either.

The Main Street human traffic moves so fast that it is easy to get pushed right past.  If you blink for a second, you will miss this small window, and even more being able to read the sign above.  You may lose your balance from getting elbowed in the back.  It is a tight squeeze at this window because there is a vendor hawking wears four feet in front, across the sidewalk.

Super cheap snacks to grab when you are on the go.  I highly recommend knowing exactly what you want to order before even getting near the window, because the staff here does not have time for you to think.  I also would always try to have exact cash for what I am purchasing as well. Move as many units as possible for a low price is the business model here.

My favorites are the fried five spice chicken legs and the curry fish falls.  Excellent for curbing your appetite before meeting friends for dinner, if you usually run early like I do.  A cheap appetizer.

My handbag is massive, and I once found an uneaten chicken drumstick from AA Plaza plaza in it a few days later.  At least it was wrapped tight, because it could have been really unpleasant.

OMG I could go on and on.
I'm not gonna claim the food is amazing. But it's not bad, and if you're hungry and broke it's amazing. I am a firm believer that stuff always tastes better when it's free. Well this is like as close as u can get to that without it being really free. It's tasty cause u get so much for so cheap!

Plus u can't beat the atmosphere. It's called street food and those napkins will be paper, not cloth, so stop crying about your surroundings. Under the train station, dirty birds and flying rats (aka pigeons) hanging out everywhere, commuters rushing to their buses/trains. It's awesome.

While I understand the hype of really really cheap food, this place just isnt worth it.

I think the cost of food is somewhere along the lines of:

    4 pork buns - 1 Scallion Pancake - FishBalls - 5 dumplings - $1

with the fried rice, fried chicken, and assorted fried noodle for a little more...

but the food here is really terrible with little flavor in anything and generally everything is incredible greasy. Greasy in a bad way because it is oily and flavorless so the taste is hard to describe.

Moreover the location is right under the railway of the LIRR where many pigeons and other birds make their nest. It is just incredibly dirty, INCREDIBLE dirty as in I have no idea how they get it so that people arent ridiculously ill after eating there.

So while the food is very cheap, it is flavorless, it is dirty and since youre in Flushing there are dozens of alternative restaurants and stands...

    why bother?

I honestly think the food is mediocre but it is ridiculously cheap for the amount they give you. I'm here to tell you guys about the churng fan & fish ball combination. This isn't on the menu but it's basically rice noodles, fish balls of your choice (regular/curry), and three sauces (soy sauce based sauce, peanut sauce, and sriracha) topped with sesame seeds. You already know how awesome the churng fan and fish balls are good separately - now, image it covered with a sweet and spicy concoction. I'm craving for this as I write...

P.S. You should definitely stay away from the hot and sour soup - umm, what were they thinking?

Yes, its cheap, but so is all of the street eats in Flushing.

The problem is, its mediocre food, at best, and that is NOT the case at many of the other finds in the neighborhood.

The scallion pancakes are bland and extremely greasy, the fish balls are just bland, and the dumplings are total crap compared to at least three other places within 1000 ft. Based upon that order, I chose not to even bother with anything else on their menu (signs?).

To anyone who thinks this place is the reason to food crawl Flushing, more power to you. I don't need even longer lines at the places that I frequent. This one is all you.

Alright, there is something about Flushing food that taste absolutely amazing. Maybe it's the authenticity.

I walked by and saw fish balls for $1 and chicken for $1 for 2. Can't pass up on that since I love street food. There always seems to be a line here so be patient and make sure you're actually on a line.

The spicy fish balls are addicting, there's only 4 on a stick but they are bigger and plumper! The fried chicken drums are crazy good, maybe it was the fresh batch she just fried and dumped on the plate but nonetheless, the skin was crunchy and the meat was ultra moist! After looking at the other photos, I need to come back here and taste the other food they serve.

Not the best snack foods. I tried the veggie spring rolls, tasted salty and greasy, and funky from the reused oil to fry them. For the most talked about steamed buns , they were dissapointing. The dough, tastes salty and somewhat strange like too doughy. The pork filling was ok but not satisfying.

You cant beat the price here but somehow you won't be satisfied with the taste.

This food is frikken cheaaaaaapp. As well as reallly greasy, but not bad. In the back of your mind you question how clean this place could possibly be.

But the red and yellow signs displaying insane prices distract you:
-Chicken Drumsticks 2/1$ (deep-fried,super greasy goodness)
-Lo mein 1.25 (generous portion, tastes like avg. chinese takeout)
-4 Steamed Buns 4/1.25 (ok, could use more meat)
...and much more but this is all I tried on my 1st visit haha.

How could you complain about this food when it's so cheap and tastes fine? You can't. Best place to come by and get munchie food if you're around the area. No seating, but across street you can sit on the many stairs of the Flushing library.

Pretty good damn food for the price you pay. Fast, cheap and tasty! I am a sucka for their chungfun with the 3 sauces ( Peanut, sweet soy and hot sauce) This is my ideal lunch and breakfast option because it is not messy to eat and is not oily! Out of the items here, I woud say this  is the healthest and one of my favorites by far!

The scallion pancakes are good too when they come off of the griddle fresh. Every time I pass by the place, I always peek to see if the scallion pancakes are crispy looking and can't resist but to buy one and eat it piping hot.

The mei fun is good too, not as oily as the lo mein. This place saved my wallet and time. I would get a quick breakfast and  run across the street to catch the q27 to school.

Ka-ching! I hit the jackpot with this place.

It makes Chinatown look like the UES. Rolled by here with Jamie C. and just watched in amazement, as people handed the ladies behind the glass 1 dollar and got back a shit ton of food.

We decided to try it too. And it worked! Got the following:

4 spicy and DELICIOUS fish balls on a stick for $1
This rolled up rice cake in a delicious combination of 3 sauces (Chinese duk bo ki TM Jamie C.) for $1.25
4 Big pork buns for $1.25
and 8 shu mis (little dumplings) for $1

We were both full after spending less than $5 at this place. I also wanted to try the pan fried noodles and fried rice but I just couldn't handle any more food.

I feel like Bill Gates when I come here. It feels good :)

WOWZA...where else can you find a deal like this?!?!? AA Plaza i heart you.

They also give you all the utensils you need an are generous with the napkins. The lady serving me was pleasant and always with a smile on her place. My kinda service!!!

There's a hobo harassing people for $$ but everyone's seemed to get use to him. There's tons of people ordering and immediately eating outside the place cuz they just can't wait. After coming here, I wouldn't wait to eat it either! lol.

We opted for the Shanghainese specialties here including the scallion pancake ($1) and a box of 4 steamed pork buns ($1.25).  The pancake is huge!  While oily, it wasn't overly so as they often can be.  I generally liked the balance of flavor in it, but did find it too heavy to enjoy in its entirety.  The pork buns were just okay.  There was nothing remarkable about their flavor profile, but they were functional and cheap.  They were pretty large for the price.

$1 for four dumplings, $1.25 for a GIANT serving of vegetable lomein and $1 for 5 fish balls.

This is absolute heaven. It's cheap, it's delicious. The only problem now is to find someplace to sit.

Some suggestions: (if it's not too cold) steps of the library, the LIRR upstairs, KFC (as long as you purchase something) or Starbucks (again, buy something).

Flaky scallion pancake for a dollar each.  We bought one that had just come off the griddle, went to a side street as soon as possible, and tore it between the three of us, yelping as the hot greasy pancake hit our tongue.   All those flaky layers.  Delicious.

I also like the pork buns here.

It look so unsanitary, but who cares?! Thin rice noodles and the thick noodles are $1.25 but you can ask them for half half. Soda is 75 cents, so for 2 dollars you can get pretty full. Their dumplings are pretty good too, 4 for $1.25 as well.

After you get your food, its difficult to find somewhere to sit down and eat. Usually if its a nice weather, go to the queens library and sit on the staircase and enjoy your lomein and the weather !

Take all the street carts in Chinatown, jam them into a tight place under the Long Island Railroad, erect a wall between all the vendors and the pedestrians and you'd get AA Plaza. They have pretty much all the cheap and somewhat Americanized Chinese street food you'd ever want in one place and it's great! And it can replace pretty much any western food you can think of.

Want some spaghetti? Order the lo mein.
Have a pizza craving? Get the enormous scallion pancake and add some sauce.
A KFC fan? Ask for the drum stick.
Just want bread? Grab the pork buns.

Though I don't recommend ordering here more than once in a while cause it can become quite an unhealthy habit.

They have the best scallion pancake ever!! May be really greasy, especially when they use their greasy gloves to put the pancake in a bag, but I don't care - it's so good!

    'Nuff said.

Now this is what I call cheap eats!

An order of lo mein, chow mein, rice noodles, fried rice, chicken drumsticks (2pcs), spring rolls (2pcs) for $8.00.

Fast service and bang for your buck portions.

Roast duck in pancakes $1.00 each a few windows down.  Small in size but 3 will do it for me.  Fantastic!

This series of stalls under the train overpass in Flushing serves some of the greatest street food I've ever found.  The one that's absolutely unmissable is at the far left (south) side of the stall.  Point at the covered vat in front of the server and get a bowl of spicy peanut rice noodles.  They're glutinous, steamy, and covered in a mixture of three or four different sauces from squeeze bottles (hot sauce optional).  I've taken to getting some every time I go to Flushing, even before meals at other restaurants -- they're that good.  $1.25 for small, $2 for large.

I've heard the scallion pancakes are also good, but I haven't tried them.

(Note: I made up this address.  I don't think this place has an address.  It's located under the LIRR train overpass on the west side of Main Street, between 40th Road and 41st Avenue.)
