When I was between girlfriends I used to tag along and serve as designated driver for a buddy who wouldn't go anyplace but the Beaumont Club every weekend.  Free Cokes when I would tell the staff my assigned role.  The place was big and very noisy (too noisy for conversation, that's for sure) and there were lots of cowboy hats and cowboy boots.  No shortage of young women getting blitzed, many of whom were surely using fake I.D.'s.  At some point I realized that being in my late forties, I was frequently the oldest person in the place.  I've never been back -heh.

A very dear friend played here recently. I got to watch the bands and sound guys set up for the show. I didn't know much about it and thought it was just another bar venue on the larger side but they take their setup and sound seriously and, at least for this show, it shows. The show was the Brothersgreen, Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band, and someone else with an accordian who belted every song out like an Irish drinking&fighting ballad. I completely recommend catching the first two any time you can, the Brothersgreen has a funk-blues feel to it and Rev. Peyton's is a fast-paced bluegrassy kind of sound. That's how I describe it, anyway.
It was a Tuesday, or Wednesday. One of those days. And the crowd was pretty much what can be expected in the midwest on whatever day it was, but at least they had the decency to drink alot and give a little towards the end. The music was awesome, the sound was great, all the staff was really cool to me despite my being in the way half the time during set-up and the bartenders were very polite. I leave this review with one important tip: if you're drinking, stay off the raised platform to the right of the stage. You will eat your ass on that step. I saw it happen 4 times that night, and that doesn't include when I almost bit it in my heels and nearly went clamoring right through the barrier into the sound crew.

Great small venue for enjoying bands close up. I believe, on most nights it is a country bar so I usually avoid unless I'm going to see a band.

Performances at the Beaumont can be hit or miss.  The acoustics can be unforgiving and I have been so a few shows where the music sounds awful.  The best sound, and best  view of course, is front and center.  I recommend bringing ear plugs just in case.  With the low ceilings it can get uncomfortably loud.

If you are listening to a band for the first time at the Beaumont you might come away with a poor impression because of the acoustical shortcomings.  However, if you are seeing a band you know and love, The Beaumont Club is a wonderful venue.
