Plain Mangoberry with strawberries, blackberries, cereal and mochi - that is all you need to know.
I didn't buy enough for the guy to validate my parking (they only do it with a $5 purchase), but fuck it at least I got my pseudo-Pinkberry fix for the season. Woo!

I had the mangoberry with granola, blackberries, and mochi. It was really, really good. The medium size cup is big, and with 3 toppings is only $3.95. I consider that a deal. The yogurt is the perfect level of tart, and if you only get it with 1 topping, I suggest the mochi! But the granola did go well with it, too.
The downside was that it looked to me like all the fruit was sort of dried up. My blackberries were... well, dry. And I only got 4 on my entire yogurt! He measured all of the toppings really carefully and was definitely on the stingy side with them. This place doesn't accept card either.

With the addition of that other place on Shattuck that charges 3 times what this one charges and not much different quality, this has become my favorite yogurt place in the East Bay. Well, it's always been my favorite yogurt place because they serve wow cow.
People think I'm daft when I say that I don't like my yogurt to be too creamy. I don't like ice cream to be too creamy either. Well, if I wanted creamy frozen treats, I'd eat ice cream. But for the less creamy and less caloric impact, I eat frozen yogurt. And I was IN LOVE with the WOW COW. I used to drive to Redwood City to get it. But since I found out that they have it here, I don't need to do that.
Then came the Mangoberry and all the parallel ideas of fresh frozen yogurt, some organic, some soy, some made with small children. Is it just me, or does it seem like yogurt should cost less than $5 and a big big one at that? If you think about it, it costs pennies to make in the quantities that they do. It's like fountain soda. The most expensive thing is the container.
This place has good prices. Decent sizes (how much can you really eat if you think about it in non-starving-student terms?). It delivers what it claims. And the Mangoberry made me smile. A big goofy green-tea Mangoberry smile.
If you're looking for super-creamy, just-as-bad-as ice-cream fro-yo, Yogurt park is where to go. If you're looking for Fro-yo that is lighter, MangoBerry that won't force you to live off packets of ramen for the rest of the week, candy in bulk, WOW COW flavors to eat without guilt, this is the place. I love this place. I love this place so much.
I think most people around the telegraph area get kind of surly when they deal with so many students. Shops on Shattuck have the same attitude towards High School students. And they don't let in more than 3 at a time, plus you have to take your back-pack off and leave it at the door, even if you're not a freaking high school student and haven't been one in almost 10 years.
So really, I'd cut some slack to the people who have to deal with stingy students all day.

I come here almost everyday. They carry about 3 different yogurt companies including the owner's special recipe, an answer to Pinkberry. I'm not a fan of Pinkberry, but his is good. They also carry Wow Cow and Northern Lights (Cherry is the best!)
The owner is really cool: he named this place after his daughter. I get life advice from him all the time...you can't get that at Yogurt Park.
Speaking of which, I don't know why people are so crazy about Y.P., I think it tastes like frozen cough syrup. Plus, what ever happened to helping the small business?

My favorite yogurt place. Offers low-cal WowCow brand, high culture Ambrosia brand, AND a tart flavor that is superior to Papamingo's. The WowCow flavors (my favorite) rotate every few days, and the consistency of the yogurt is always amazing.
It's light and doesn't go straight to the gut like Yogurt Park will, even if Yogurt Park has more interesting flavors. The storeowner is friendly despite having a tough business to run with lots of competition. Yeah, he might be stingy, but he now knows me by name, 'cause I visit Michelle's a good five times a week.
Support the self-run establishment! I like the people who work here. You would be surly sometimes too if you had to stand behind a counter till 12am every night. Actually, the man has been quite friendly to me, and he seems very proud of his product -a characteristic I admire.
I will have to try the mangoberry with mochi next!
update: got the mangoberry with mochi, strawberries, and kiwi. i commented on the fact that the proprietor carefully placed each slice of kiwi onto the yogurt, almost lovingly. he responded, "this is my art." how can you not come back to this place after that? plus, i really do like the flavor of mangoberry better than papamingos and a few other "fresh" yogurt places around. it's more tart.
Mangoberry flavor at Michelle's does taste like Pinkberry, but I am concerned about the authenticity of the the yogurt....nevertheless I will go back for more!
I'm a bit ashamed and sorry to the nice man behind the counter at Michelle's to say that when Papamingo and then Ryno's opened not five blocks away from his sad, sad shop, I ran off like all of the other lemmings who had stars in their eyes for natural yogurt. But after repeated forays into the aforementioned yogurt joints met with disappointment at the former's being pretty good but unspectacular and the latter bordering on the cheesy most times, I ran back into the arms of my original Berkeley love who, I think, might be feeling a little scorned, judging from the aloof restraint with which my toppings are placed on my creamy swirl of Mangoberry.
Yes, Mangoberry. The bastard child of Red Mango and Pinkberry that snaked its way up the unassuming Berkeley population somehow, its success soon to be thwarted by the dozen other entrepreneurial endeavors that followed it, which is what naturally happens when a single Korean business becomes successful. Before Mangoberry I would occasionally stop by Michelle's to pick up some bin candy, more out of compassion for the man running the lonely fro-yo and sweets shop just across the street from the disgustingly unwarranted popularity machine that calls itself Yogurt Park than out of any visceral craving for sour belts. When Papamingo opened and Safeway started selling bin candy, I perceived I couldn't keep this charade up any longer, and gently parted ways with Michelle's. But now I'm older and wiser and trying it on for size again.
Although I came to my senses and realized that Mangoberry was the superior product out of the three that I have tried, I can understand why it doesn't attract nearly as much attention as the two others. In addition to the location (Papamingo is right across the street from Crossroads, while Ryno is located on a bustling section of Telegraph), the portions and atmosphere don't really scream "college". Order a medium with three toppings or the mixed fruit option, and for four dollars you get a portion considerably more petite than the two others, especially Ryno, who generously swirls out gobs and gobs of their cheesy fro-yo. Furthermore, while Michelle's has the most delicious, ripe selection of fresh-cut fruit (kiwi are half-moon slices; pineapples aren't canned), they give soooo little of it. My yogurt today came with three whole raspberries, and if you request the mixed fruit, he pretty much places one of each fruit onto the swirl, albeit neatly, I guess. The man behind the counter used to be more generous with the toppings. Maybe he remembers me from last summer and knows that my nine month-long absence consisted of more than a few Papamingo benders.
The fruit situation used to be better, as used to be the flavor of the yogurt. Back when Mangoberry had its debut it was much more tart and less sweet, sometimes so much that it would literally make you pucker. Now the yogurt is more mellow, and the yogurt flavor is definitely stronger here without being cheesy, but there's no tartness to it. The original might have been a bit too tart, but I am missing all of the punchiness that it packed back then.
Though it carries the best natural frozen yogurt out of the three establishments close to campus that serve it, I'm going to have to dock a star off of Michelle's right off the bat for the emotionally scarring experience I had not thirty minutes ago. I was sharing a medium Mangoberry with strawberries, raspberries, and pineapple when I accidentally swallowed a piece of strawberry. Considering how many I started out with, that pretty much put me over the edge. It rendered me an emotional wreck; I couldn't even go to class after that. Although it is the best in Berkeley, because of its many flaws, I think Mangoberry only warrants three stars.
Maybe I'll spare myself the emotional trauma and try out Yogurt Harmony; the interior anyway looks closer to the LA yogurt joints than the other three.
The owner has always been nice to me, if not ebulliently friendly, and I am worried perhaps his perceived stinginess is a misunderstanding? He carefully put each piece of fruit on our mangoberry yogurt but when my dad commented on it he smiled and said yes, he tries hard to make it very pretty. And it was pretty, with alternating raspberries and kiwis and whatnot. Plus the normal yogurt is cheaper than yogurt park's across the street, and I've never noticed a big difference in quality and flavor. I have been made truly happy by copious, delicious servings of peanut butter, heath toffee, and angel food cake (my favorite flavors).
As for the mangoberry thing, I've had Pinkberry enough times that it just doesn't cut it for me. But that's not a slur against the mangoberry served here (perfectly nice stuff)- it's just that Pinkberry is God's gift to His chosen people of West Hollywood, California.

This is the best place we've found for frogurt in the Bay and, believe me, we've SCOURED. Michelle's offers generous portions of a lovely, rotating assortment of flavors that of course you can sample before committing. The older guy who works there has always been consistently attentive and recently there was a frankly jaw-droppingly gorgeous girl behind the counter. I'm not even into girls but I can't help looking forward to her handing me a yogurt the next time I go, cause creamy delicious yogurt tastes even better with a sprinkling of eye candy.
The only problem is it's slow, so you probably shouldn't come and become another person standing in between me and my sweet indulgence. The view is okay, though: the even longer line of tasteless dummies going to Yogurt Park instead.

Okay, so I concur: the Mangoberry is delicious. Tart and sweet and topped with fresh fruit and mochi. Goodbye Yogurt Park (I never liked you that much anyway), hello Michelle's!
But I have to get this out: DAMN YOU AMERICANS. You should feel lucky to not be living in Europe, where I've dined with people who grope their stomachs with bulging eyeballs suggesting the enormity of a plate of pasta containing half as much as any standard American entree. Europe, where smaller portions breed more attractive people. Come on now.
I should really be thanking you though, fellow Yelpers, for suggesting that the medium Mangoberry is the size of a thimble. Because I was pleasantly surprised to find that it's absolutely enormous! I don't know about you, but I usually share one of the mediums with a second person. If that much fro yo is too little for you, then no wonder you're fat!

After trying Yogurt Park across the street and not loving it, I thought I'd venture over to this spot and see what the competition had to offer. I was thrilled to see that they serve WowCow! Apparently, no one in Berkeley has the fanaticism about this brand of froyo that I have... because I left Michelle's quite content and loving my half soy-half mocha cup of WowCow (which I consider to be the best frozen yogurt in production - all-natural, not too sweet, available in crazy flavors). Sure, the guy at the counter wasn't exactly excited to see me, but he was generally nice and answered my question about what flavor he liked with some enthusiasm.
the dude at the front was not very polite, but this place had the new non-flavored stuff and the old time sweet stuff, so it was good for a variety of eaters but otherwise the toppings were a little lame and the rest was not great.

I'd give this place a couple more stars if it weren't for the workers there. I went there today for their mangoberry and toppings (second time), and the first time I went there, the man there was rather rude and very stingy. It seemed as if he was judging on the people to determine how many pieces of fruit or what not to put on top of the mangoberry yogurt.
Although it seemed so little for Pinkberry to have a rule to give 5 or 6 blackberries or raspberries for the frozen yogurt, a good number of the employees give a bit more than that.
HOWEVER, today at Michelle's Yogurt & Sweets, a lady that worked there carefully picked out one blackberry and placed it on the mangoberry yogurt. She was thinking for 15 seconds before putting the second blackberry on it. 30 more seconds passed by, and she sucessfully placed the third blackberry on the yogurt. Just THREE little blackberries on it? Oh man.. this makes Pinkberry look God-like.
Aside from that, I also requested to add on some mochi and captain crunch. One spoonful of of mochi, and a few pieces of the cereal... Oh man.
Since I thought the guy was very stingy, the lady was even more stingy. Was it because I was another type of Asain that isn't Korean? Was it because that's just how it is? Who knows..
but that stingy guy there gave me so much more than she did.

After all the raves about "Mangoberry" I was determined to try Michelle's crackberry knockoff myself. Talk about stingy...not on the fresh fruits, but the froyo itself. The amount I got in the medium container looked like the same amount that could fill up a small. The old man was actually generous with the fresh mango and strawberry fruit toppings, but $3.95 for a skimpy looking medium with three fruit toppings didn't score any points with me.
The taste started pretty similar, but afterwards a not-so-familiar aftertaste...TOO TART! Even in the short time I devoured this frozen treat, the last scoop was all watery and had me shaking my head with disapproval.
Eh...nice try, but I'll be waiting for Kiwiberri to open in San Fran to get my next fix.

The mango berry is pretty good. Tangy, and of course anything with fruit is probably a good thing. It's not crackberry, that's for sure. The taste is a little more tart and sour than crackberry down in LA, but good enough. Especially when topped with fruit, it hits the spot. BUT, it's not inexpensive, and the kind of service and welcome I received was less than pleasant.
My friend got a small and got two toppings. The man behind the counter made the thing and told us, "It's a better deal to get a medium... but I already started on the small." I thought that was cheap and poor business. Not sure I'll go here again unless friends want to. Even then, I might just recommend another place.
scene : Standing at yogurt park
Me : Hey, whats that yogurt place over there... seems as if no one is going there.
Michelle's (the owners daughter) A hidden treasure since it is overshadowed by the yogurt park that sits across the street. I personally have only tried the mangoberry for all you SoCal pinkberry lovers. Personally, I have never tried pinkberry so I cannot give a comparison of the two. Supposedly mangoberry is a "lighter and healthier" alternative to regular frozen yogurt. It claims to have a wopping 9 calories per oz, so if you figure out a large one minus the toppings it is only about 100 calories or so SCORE!!! for all you people watching calories, but still want some kind of dessert. I must say, if you have never tried it then you have to know that it is tangy/tarty tasting before you try it. The first time I tried it I was expecting a regular type of frozen yogurt flavor and was surprised by the sourness of the yogurt. The yogurt is paired with toppings (usually fruits) which goes perfectly with it and the best of all is the mochi! MMMM!!! I used to come here on a nightly basis until they ran out of mochi one day and I just couldn't order my mangoberry without my mochi. On top of the mangoberry they also sell candy, regular (whatever that is) frozen yogurt, and also ice cream... so unlike yogurt park, Michelle's is a one stop shop for people who come in with different tastes. I must say though, even though I came here often... I never was given freebies!!! all I wanted was extra mochi and he had to charge each and every time!!! but business is business I suppose. But cmon... you can give good returning customers a little something something now and then. So all of you standing across the street and gazing at the other yogurt place wondering if you should try it... YOU SHOULD! get to it.

How is this place still in business? Awww....I always feel bad for this place. I mean it's like a wimpy kid going against the high school all star athlete. You know who you're going to place your bets on, but can't help but feel bad for the wimpy kid.
BUT I have to be honest...I've gotten frozen yogurt here. Not once, but a few times :x
I get this craving for peanut butter (pb) yogurt and I must FEED IT. Yopo leaves me hanging sometimes when they don't feature it, so I go to the dark side and get it from here. So, of course I have to give them extra stars for that or else I would go crazy man! I don't know if it's the FEEN talking, but the pb yogurt isn't bad! hahaa...Plus, it's a quarter cheaper.
The old man never was pissy to me or sad looking. Actually I think he even smiled! Maybe because I came here more than once, so that makes me a "regular" in his book haha

OK, I drove all the way from San Jose to Berkeley to check out what the fuss is all about at this place. I saw Yogurt Park and I should have tried it but I didn't. I tried this place because I wanted to see if their Mangoberry was similar to that of Pinkberry's. There were girls waiting in line talking about Pinkberry while I was waiting. The menu seems similar and so did the toppings. The fruits were fresh and the yogurt was plain; however, it was heavier and creamier like another reviewer had stated. The toppings, that was the biggest disappointment because, I felt gipped. I posted up the pictures of my Mangoberry and there is no mangoes offered as toppings nor are there any mango flavors. This place could be better if the yogurt did not melt so fast and if the toppings weren't so skimpy.

UPDATE: So I still love the mangoberry here. But I'm feeling kinda sad for the store. They obviously made profiles to rate their store and up their scoring on yelp. Pathetic!
So I have been looking for a Pinkberry subsitute for weeks now. Something fruity and delicious made with tarty plain yogurt. Mmm. I'm already craving my new love, the mangoberry at Michelle's Yogurt and Sweets. It's soo good! Yay! Finally, something in the bay area to satisify all my Pnkberry cravings! I drove from SF just to try the mangoberry and well it was worth it! Thank you Michelle for your oh so delicious mangoberry yogurt & sweets!
Mangoberry = the closest thing I'll get to Pinkberry here.
I'm so happy.
I miss my Pinkberry fixes, and although Mangoberry is not the same..
it's as good as it gets.
I love it, and I'm hooked.
-- edit --
So, I went again today. There was a line!
I forgot to bring cash so I went to the ATM and walked back to the store. The cute woman apologized for not being able to take debit cards and gave me a large mangoberry instead of the medium that I ordered. Then she loaded it up with extra fruit from the freezer instead of the ones that she had on the counter. On top of that, she added some fruity pebbles because she thinks it tastes better with fruity pebbles. How cute.
(I think being Korean added to some of the little extras I received...Koreans are always like that)
mm.
this is my secret frozen yogurt location in berkeley; the mangoberry here is pretty yummy! a little bit thicker, not quite as lemony, & skimpy on the fruit toppings, but still as close as we are going to get to the you-know-what frozen yogurt so i guess we have to take what we get. i've been coming here for several months now and it is conveniently located close to american apparel so i can get my favorite leggings & some mangoberry on the side all in one trip. :)
p.s. now that i've let you in on the secret, don't all come at once (when i say "at once" i mean it as "when i am there") and make me wait in line! :)

I agree with Ahnah. He weighs each order to make sure he doesn't put more fruits on it!!!
I would've given this place five stars if they weren't that stingy and expensive. If they were to lower their mangoberry by 1 dollar, i am sure this place would make a LOT MORE MONEY!
MANGOBERRY YUMMMM
The best yogurt shop!!! I wonder why it isn't busier considering the line for yogurt park stretches out the door on sunny afternoons. Wonderful flavors, great toppings, really friendly/nice staff (mainly one guy but sometimes his wife works there, too) with even cheaper prices than yogurt park. $1.75 for a heaping "mini" in comparison to Yogurt Parks surly $2 mini.
The only warning I have is be careful about the super low-cal WowCow flavors -- about half the calories than the regular fat-free but if you have a sensitive stomach, you might regret the huge influx of chemically-sweet WowCow. The WowCow flavors they usually have is the ChocolateFudge Brownie (avoid at all costs!) and the Pecan Praline/Roasted Almond. The other flavors are absolutely delicious though and Michelle's Yogurt and Sweets is a great place to get your froyo fix!
This place is a wanna be Yogurt Park! Since I've been in Berkeley, I've watched this guy copy every move YoPa has made. I mean really...how can you compete with the best and most popular yogurt shop in the bay area? Don't get me wrong, I don't think anybody could bring down YoPa, or even put a dent in their business. They seem busier than ever.
I'm convinced that this place is rigging these reviews. This is the first place half these people have reviewed.
Anyways, the Mango Berry is ok. If they had a bigger selection they might have gotten another star. I do wish them luck though with the new stuff because the people there seem really nice.
Michelle's yogurt is one of the best stops in Berkeley. They use the same yogurt brands as yogurt park, charge less, and don't have the long lines. Their staff is also much more friendly and doesn't mind offering samples. I go there for the mango berry. The tangy yogurt is similar to pink berry, and comes topped with fresh cut fruit not the canned fruit offered by papamingos. Ive always received generous toppings and the owner always puts them on with great care making a treat that is delicious and beautiful! For those watching their weight they also offer rotating wow cow flavors that have less sugar and calories than the rest, but are equally as good. Skip the lines and the bad service at yogurt park and give Michelle's a shot.
i've tried alot of fro-yo, from berkeley to seattle, I think this has the best original fro-yo. It doesn't have other flavors like it's counterparts but the original has the special tangy taste that mimics the yogurt drinks very well.
So far I haven't found any other place that has a better tangy taste.
Other reviewers has mentioned that the guy working there is stingy and bias. Yes its true, he gives me the same feelings. He acts like he's counting how much fruit he is putting in your cup. But he has hired someone new and she's very nice. Hopefully she'll be working when you get there. haha
the man behind the counter is very sweet. during slower times when i was the only customer in the store, he would start conversations and compliment me like a sweet grandpa would. i've only had the mangoberry and i think it's wonderful.
the yogurt here isnt good...sorry to say~ i would much rather goto papmingo dwn the st...! but i think he is the one who brought yogurt to berkeley (& maybe the whole bay area) first so i gotta give him some credit for trying...
Bad fro yo, stale candy, and pissy staff. They'll kick you out of their outdoor tables and chairs if you're not eating something of theirs even if no one else is in their store. Do yourself a huge favor and go to Yogurt Park across the street.
So I don't really like their Mangoberry (I dislike the trend, not their version of the product), but I visit at least twice a week to pick up a treat. I try to watch my weight sometimes and when I do, I LOVE this product they have called WowCow. It's basically super creamy froyo that is about 50 cals per small serving. It has a better consistency than yogurt park and is healthier. They only have a couple WowCow flavors and they change frequently, so enjoy them when they're good and check back soon if they are bad.
Aside from that, the staff is pretty stiff and cold. They also don't give generous servings like YoPa, but instead they take their time and put toppings with the intention of making it look perfect. I'd rather they destroy the look with a heaping pile of froyo, but whatever...
***Update*** On about 5 different occasions now I have dropped by Michelle's during their normal hours and they were closed! I understood that when it was Cal's winter break, but now it seems it's closed random Saturday's, too?! I prefer to call YoPa's info line and choose my flavor while I'm driving there..knowing for sure that when I get there I will be able to buy some friggin fro-yo! Yeah, and the owner is a poop, too.
Normally, I would just get my super-sweet frozen yogurt across the street at Yogurt Park, and trust the reviews below. However, everyone finally has a legitimate reason to visit Michelle's Yogurt and Sweets.
There is a yogurt revolution going on in Southern California spearheaded by overpriced, over-hyped, small-portion serving, long-line having yogurt stores like Pinkberry. The reason that so many of Los Angeles foodie-illuminati are shelling out up to $7 a serving for frozen yogurt is the presence of a refreshing new flavor offering: Plain Yogurt. That's right, plain yogurt. It tastes like a slightly sweet version of the sour stuff that you disappointingly fished out of your lunchbox when your friends were greedily scarfing down their Jello Jigglers and taunting you for your health-food family. Anyhow, this sweet-sour yogurt is usually skimpily topped with your choice of three fruits, and then delivered by a surly Asian server.
As far as I know, Michelle's is the first store in Berkeley to offer this style of yogurt. Michelle's Yogurt and Sweets has augmented their traditionally disappointing selection of flavors and stale jelly beans with what they confusingly call MangoBerry flavor. It costs $2.95 for a small, and $3.95 for a medium.
I usually order the medium and the man behind the counter carefully weighs out exactly .52 lbs. and then runs to the back room with my yogurt, only to return after topping it with ripe mangoes, kiwis, blueberries, strawberries, and blackberries. It's amazing. It tastes so fresh and delicious - like a rare sorbet. In addition it's nonfat and much lower in sugar than all the traditional sweetened frozen yogurt.
If this man knew anything about business, he would move his store to Santa Monica, change the price to $9, and retire in 8 months.
Anyhow, if you haven't tried this new tangy, fresh-fruit covered, yogurt-flavored yogurt - I suggest you head on over to Michelle's and ask for a Medium MangoBerry.

So, I used to feel sad everytime I walked past this place and I'd see the guy behind the counter starting across the street at the line out the door at Yogurt Park . . . then I stopped in last week and asked if he had any "tart" flavors . . . and he did (it's called "mangoberry")! It is more expensive than the regular frozen yogurt flavors and you get a lot less but it comes with yummy fresh fruit (i got banana, mango, strawberry and one blackberry-- he is a little stingy with both the yogurt and the fruit!). Just note that there are two separate pricing systems-- one for the regular frozen yogurt and a second for the mangoberry (it is more expensive for less but the price includes the mixed fruit topping).
Overall, very tasty but a little pricey. Since he started carrying this I have noticed more people in there, so maybe he can finally gain some ground against Yogurt Park . . . but just yesterday I walked by YP and noticed they just started carrying a "plain" flavor!
