I don't understand the obsession with A60. Or maybe the obsession ended a couple years ago and I'm just behind the times?
In any case, there are so many rooftops in this city that are SO much better than this one. Yeah, the views are ok, but the scene is so boring. And the place is tiny, lacking in good music and the drinks are fine but not great.
Members-only for this place? Please. Not a member and not jealous about it either.
Skip it and head to Jimmy. Nearby and way cooler. -

I don't have a key. I didn't stay in the Thompson Hotel. I am not a 22-year old underwear model. (Surprise of THE YEAR, I know.) So how did I gain access to A60? You know, connections.
My boyfriend's co-worker's ex-roomate's promoter friend (and, apparently, male model) put J and some of his work peeps on the list for the Thompson's swank rooftop bar yesterday, so we headed to SoHo, hoping to catch a nice breeze and sunset view.
Upon arrival at the hotel we had the most INANE conversation with the elevator bouncer regarding the name of the list we were on, and I wish to god that I'd been wearing a wire so that I could have transcribed the entire thing for your reading pleasure. Sadly I had no such foresight, and the logic of our dialogue was so convoluted that to attempt to reproduce it from memory would probably make my head explode.
Once stamped and 13 floors up, though, our evening was lovely. Nestled on the east side of the hotel, the rooftop is decent-sized, with nice cushy patio furniture and great views of the Empire State Building to the north, SoHo/Nolita to the east and TriBeCa to the south. But no western exposure = no sunset, boo. The people were very pretty, and I wished that I were wearing nicer shoes. And the $15 drinks? Surprisingly excellent. Seriously, one of the best mojitos I've had in the city, made with super-premium Pyrat rum and pure cane sugar--put all that together with the great views, human eye candy and the fact that the bartenders accidentally left 2 drinks off our tab, and A60 was a spectacular place to spend a Sunday evening.
Sigh. I love knowing people. -

Hot shit.
Yes, me. And A60. Together, it's a sexy match made in sexy heaven. If there is, scoff, such a place.
So you haven't been yet? Well, then you won't. Unless you kiss my ass. And buy me drinks. And then buy me more drinks after I spill my first round.
The view: Distant and fantastic.
The crowd: Small and sweet.
The staff: Attractive and unpretentious.
If you can get up there, enjoy it. And if you're stuck downstairs... track me down. And buy me drinks. Because they're expensive. And by now, I've spilled my second round, too. -

Fall is my favorite season by far, but Rooftops in the summer is what this city is all about. Especially when it's a members only rooftop with great views that serves appetizers from Kittichai.
The scene is relaxed during the day and picks up as the night progresses. I just received my membership card, so I will be here until it gets too cold to enjoy this lounge.
Membership definetly has it's privileges(thanks Craig). -

I am fortunate enough to "know people in high places", mainly as high as the rooftop at A60. I love the fact that one must posses a key to get to this coveted location. Unfortunately I am not that cool, but I digress...
The staff is friendly, attractive, and attentive. I didn't have to wait long for the vodka on the rocks that I was so craving, well, that I constantly crave really. The view is spectacular of both downtown and midtown. They have lovely, and nicely cushioned benches on which to lounge, attractively candle lit in the evening.
What better way to watch the sunset than from a rooftop in Manhattan with a cocktail and fabulous company?! -

The best rooftop hotel bar below 14th street. (And let's face it, the hotel bars above it ain't that awesome for the most part)
Never too crowded, never too European, never too Uptown, good mix of cool, class yet unpretentious fun. My friends and I like to call it the antithesis of Hotel Gansevoort.
The reviews are a right, this place isn't the easiest to get into. But it isn't Fort Knox either.
And once you are there the view and atmosphere are worth it.
Important: make sure you save your pesos, this place is in the teens for a well vodka/soda. -

Just got back. I'd say it's nice, but not up to these rave reviews-- with the exception of the drinks being very strong.
View is OK, but leave the camera in your room. Space is small which leads to exclusivity, but the appeal should be about the space not the occupancy. By comparison, the Setai lounge is 10x the size but much more appealing.
Small, marginal review. Sorry, I just don't get it. -

Was here a couple times last year (09), and came across it on Yelp. I hadn't even known the name of the place. I just knew it as the rooftop bar @ Thompson Hotel.
Anyway, this is probably the chillest place I've gone to and definitely one of my favorite places to go for a drink. The whole members-only thing is stupid, because I don't stay at the hotel, and I'm not a member and I've gone a few times.
This place has had the best drinks ever. I don't typically like cocktails or mixed drinks, but they are so delicious here. Maybe because they use top shelf for their mix drinks, but I think it's because of the fruit juice they use, which is super fresh. I had the lychee martini, some pomegranate drink, some belini drinks, and they were all very good.
The atmosphere is really nice. It's really pretty on a summer night. This is my favorite place to bring friends from out of town, because it's a good place to just sit, relax, and have a few drinks.
Can't wait till it warms up for me to return! -

Perfection.
The vibe is always right on the roofdeck at 60 Thom.
Amazing views of the city, fun drinks, and always an interesting crowd.
I prefer to go early evening (around 5 ) before it gets too crowded when you can enjoy the sun setting over the city.
Also, if you get the munchies, small appetizers are served by Kittichai downstairs. Yum!
Russ W. and I have our own special bench on the sun deck where we can be found sipping stoli orange on the rocks.... ahhh, summer in the city....
Oh, you need a VIP card to access the roof deck but people have been known to charm their way up there. -

Umm...no? Would you like to pay a lot for ok drinks on a rooftop with dead plants, crappy furniture and biting insects? I thought not.
P.S. Hey cocktail waitress, you're not that cool, I don't know who told you you were. Although I really really like that dress and would like it for my own. -

Personally my opinion is biased due to my profound affinity for the Thompson franchise. ::Eh hem: Especially now that my significant other and I are now "members" (So much love to you Craig)
A trip to A60 was the perfect way to wrap up a year of enjoying the full Thompson experience. From sinfully long afternoons in between stark white sheets, sharing Singapore Slaw with my bff, and downing countless perfectly concocted cocktails at Thom bar and Above Allen........I've done it all.
A60 smacks AA in so many ways. Even on a slow Sunday the vibe is upbeat, the view is breathless, and the crowd is unpretentious. With Meatpacking making a raging comeback these days, I'm grateful for a snobby getaway that's still refreshingly free of snobs. -

What a place! My two friends after my show told me we had to check out the rooftop bar in NYC. For one I was shocked how relatively easy it was to get in...and 2nd...NO COVER...especially in NY thats a surprise. We ended up grabbing a few drinks and I really enjoyed the Cherry Vodka Coke that they were serving. The drinks were a bit pricy...but relax...Its NY what do you expect?
The crowd was pretty friendly...not too pretentious. The highlight of the venue was of course the views of NY..just amazing...and if you were cold they had red snuggies to keep you warm...Overall 90/100 -

Rooftoop is superlative spot to have a cocktail and enjoy your NYC life.
Downtown always looks good to me, but Midtown has never looked better than from this perch. Drinks are well made and the Thai and Indian fusion appetizers compliment the fruity concoctions that the bar creates. Very, very romantic.Listed in: The Places I Go Out- South…

A great rooftop hotel bar.
I agree with sarah. It is not the easiest place to get into. Maybe that's why it is not super crowded like other places such as Hotel Gansevoort bar. Good drinks, Decent crowd, Cozy and absolutely sexy. :) -

I came here for after-dinner drinks on a double date and we left after one round. There are a thousand more fun places in the city to spend your Saturday night.
The music is bad: imagine mundane elevator music but with a heavy bass. I think I saw a DJ in the corner-- he must have been placed there for decoration. The drinks were excellent though (namely the lemongrass-lychee and the pear-basil). -

The view from the veranda to the left of the entrance is breathtaking. The little patio on the right-hand side is decent and in the middle of summer, catching the breeze up there is a must.
Servers are a teensy bit on the rude/self-impressed side and drinks were OK... I think the mixers and juices could use some better refrigeration. Even on ice, none of ours were ice cold cocktails.
Anyway, nice for one drink before or after dinner just to see the city twinkling away. -

I came here on a Thursday (summer) night and it was a really good time. I'm not a member or hotel guest but managed to talk my way in (I also went on the earlier side). Fantastic view of Midtown Manhattan. Its not crowded at all and DJ was amazing. He had a guy with an electric violin playing along to the house music he mixed and it was a really unique sound. Drinks are pricey, but this is Manhattan plus you've got to add a premium for being in Soho, and on a rooftop, so I guess its justified. Met some very friendly people too visiting from Canada. All around very chill vibe and not as pretentious as I expected. Will definitely be back (and might get a membership this time).

Also named Rooftop View.
A great view from here on the Empire State building. A bit arrogant staff (I don't mind), but hey, why not drink an expensive (just one) cocktail just for the view! And then get out of there.
Go to the last elevators once downstairs in the building -

Nice view but not the best and that's not why I would come here. Those were some sneaky sneaky drinks. I had a delicious cucumber kiwi cocktail, an even more delicious lychee martini and a glass of champagne and just realized this morning how drunk i was last night. A cocktail made to taste like non alcoholic drink art and then you find out there indeed was alcohol? Perfect! They have large round tables so it is definitely best to come here with a group of friends. I liked the music - it is def background music. Came on a Thursday. Oh and pricey drinks ($15 each). Waitress was attentive, too.

There are a few perks to being in the hotel industry. Calling up my friends at the Hotel I ask: "You have an exclusive rooftop - can you put my name down? I'll make sure you can get into my rooftop...."
I took my man and my Brother here and it was their first time meeting so I wanted to make sure it was a nice enviroment to sit and talk...Friday the 13th :-) the weather was just gorgeous here in NY.
We were seated immediately on the Terrace. The viewsa re very nice but I enjoyed the seating arrangements and the lighting. It's not too loud so you can actually have a conversation.
The drinks were very sweet but they do poor heavy.
The crowd was okay...there were obvi some random looking hotel guests (so sad to say that I know- especially for me), but most of the crowd was cute. lots of girls!
If you don't get up to the rooftop, the other bar areas are perfectly fine and have an equally warm feel to them....
Love the Thompson Hotel Group! Good Job. -

I came here one night and didn't know you needed to be a member or a hotel guest...but I was granted entry anyway lol. The drinks were on point and the view is BREATHTAKING :) Great views of midtown, downtown, and the Hudson. Just dreamy. I also liked that it wasn't crowded. The crowd and music was chill and the ppl were professional and good looking. I'll def. be back.

Great drinks! Chill intimate clean relaxing rooftop. Check pix.
Is small and not swinging and bustling, but I stopped in on an early friday evening (around 5:30) after a relaxed outdoor bite and drink with my mom at dos caminos 4 blocks away, and it was actually exactly what we were in the mood for. A comfy clean rooftop, some views, some nice drinks, just lounging relaxing and enjoying the weather and conversation. We entered the hotel and were told to sit and wait in the lobby for the rooftop man. We did not have a card or membership but my coworkers were the ones who originally suggested meeting here for drinks and as i briefly explained that, we were given stamps on our hands and let up, no hassle really. Rooftop man indeed explained that its usually hotel guests or members only but he was very calm and respectful and professional, helpful even, as he was trying to look out for my coworkers or anyone else we were expecting. Dont know if maybe my company had made reservations or something but i doubt that it was an official event as we get casual suggestions emailed every week for how to enjoy our summer fridays (getting out of work early) Could have been my jobs well known name, or cause the place wasnt busy, or maybe they always let in a few walk-ins. I think we just had good timing, plus i always carry an air of VIP importance ;-) Either way we were up, easy as pie. The rooftop itself was cut in half with the elevators in the center, to the left was the side with the bartender, to the right was the side we sat on, they were introduced as "the shady side or the sunny side". Had a little eastern garden feel to it with the little trees and bushes, dark woods, and budda-esque decor. There was a little music, and it was really low, i dont remember anything good but it wasnt annoying. Im sure they switch it up for the evening once the place gets a little more populated (IF the place even gets busy at all, will find out another time if i come at later hours) All the waitresses wear nice Nicole Miller sundresses. There were about 3 different waitresses stopping in to take our drink orders and see if we needed anything else, and then some bus boys would slide in between and grab empty glasses. Full team effort. Service was very gracious and attentive, not overwhelming. But i think that is to be expected when there are only about 5 other people there and this venue insists on such exclusivity. ALSO, even tho we only had 2 drinks, they automatically add a 20% gratuity, just beware of that cause i had realized that only after i had already filled in the tip lines, as the bill that fully breaks it down was (conveniently?) placed below the others, so once i saw that i scratched out my tip and just rounded it out to the next 5, its a lil dangerous for people like myself who usually dont look at the bill and just give their cards and sign, glad that presented itself, but no big deal, service was good regardless and i was pleased to have such a low bill. I made sure to take a couple pix since i saw that the yelp gallery was slightly lacking. The menu was a simple 3 pages, 1 appetizers, 2 bottles, 3 drinks, all fairly priced by rooftop standards (see pictures). If you follow my reviews or just know me, u know that i appreciate this quality over quantity simplicity, because i tend to get overwhelmed when there is an extensive menu with too many options, i like a place that narrows it down to their specialties and sticks to it. Anyway, i had the Pineapple Caipirinha, mom had the Kittichai lychee. Hers tasted nice. Mine was wonderful, was just as described on the menu and you could taste all the ingredients. Had nice chunks of pineapple which i enjoyed eating at the end of the drink and the brown sugar grains while drinking were so interesting. Was just nice and refreshing. We had already stuffed ourselves with guacamole and frozen margaritas at D.C. and had to head out early so i didnt try as much stuff as i would have liked but I def look forward to coming back and trying more of their drinks. Best rooftop drinks I have had in NY thus far. Their view is just decent but not the best, not "breath taking" as other yelpers say. Press @ ink48 still has them beat in that dept. and Press is still my fav. rooftop overall. But A60 was perfect for the moment. Was conveniently located blocks from where we already were, nice and intimate and private and clean w/good service and GREAT drinks. Really chill at the time i went, cant say much about the crowd because there really wasnt any i guess since it was still early but whoever was there was having quiet conversation and spread out on the couches real comfy. Perfect to lounge and slow down after a long or busy day and just enjoy a beautiful sunny day. Just relaxing and pleasant. On the way out we saw a nice lounge area on the second floor too, will def consider it if i am in the area and need a lounge during the colder months. Would definitely be back. IF they let me back in ;-) -

okay the rooftop is nice and the views are great, but a bit blocked if you want the sunset from the west side. i was lucky enough to get access to the rooftop thanks to some visiting friends saying at the hotel. i had the pineapple caipirinha and the kittichai lychee martini. both dirnks were more fruity than i would like. i like to taste my alcohol. lots of pineapple in my caiprinha, which i didn't mind. unfortunately, the fruit wasn't infused with cachaca. cocktails range from $12-16 and beers at $9. it's a neat place to check out and there's the sun deck on the opposite end which also offers drinks. it's not a huge rooftop, but nice cushy chairs and benches. attentive staff.

This is a membership only bar. Unless you're a guest of the hotel or security lets you up, you're out of luck. You can see the Empire State building in the distance which added to the ambiance. The drinks were amazing! I loved the passion fruit margarita. Unfortunately they let people smoke here which was frustrating. There's a bathroom right on the rooftop so you don't have to leave to go. lol

i have to say this place is pretty exclusive. either you need to stay in the hotel or you are the member of A60, which you need to email A60@thompsonhotel.com for inquiries. =)
However, I found the way in! haha...use some charms and can't share too details..but you can get in without too much drama.
they have good list of drinks. As a wine lover, i had sancerre $15 and my friend had cucmber/kiwi vodka ($12-15)- it was really refreshing!
They have very nice view of empire state building - it is sweet. but i have to say the space is small - total 6 tables? maybe that's why they make it so exclusive.
I will definitely go back as I am in the neighborhood..but so far it is a decent rooftop bar but cute! -
Review from L L.
New York, NY
A60 is a prime example of a place with a good strategy in an attempt to make the venue more attractive than what it really is. The prices are on par with the usual trendy places. However, the big difference is this place is FAR FAR FAR from being worth it.
1st - exclusivity - they do it not because it is a great place, but because it is just too darn small to fit people. For the most part it is really just an average hotel bar, but placed on a roof. There are definitely ways of also getting in without being a hotel guest or vip member.
2nd - location/view - the view is definitely lacking. Yes, you can see the empire state building but because the elevator is smack in middle and you choose between one side or the other, it is missing the full view. It is also not the tallest building so the real picturesque view is missing. The location, while intimate, feels a bit claustrophobic - tiny doors, dimly lit stairs makes it easy for tripping.
3rd - drinks - certain drinks, especially the strawberry mojito was pretty good. however, variety was on the short side and if you wished to try a few more signature cocktails.
overall, don't kill yourself trying to get here - in the end, the hype is more than the worth of this place. -

Exclusive roof-top bar with an amazing view of the city- including Empire State building. Comfortable couch setting and not at all crowded. Servers were pretty snobby so I didn't really appreciate that, especially b/c of the overpriced drinks! So, if it weren't for the view.. we wouldn't return. Any visitors to NYC should definitely try to pop in here for a drink and bring your camera! ; )

a friend of mine brought me here last night, and it's one of the better rooftop bars in nyc. love that it wasn't crowded or full of obnoxious drunks--cough 230 fifth cough--made for a pleasant night. drinks are 'meh' but hey, i wasn't paying so not complaining ;)
