    This place has everything you could want to rent. I rented video equipment and a projector and screen for my Grandma's funeral, and everything was very inexpensive! I would use them again, and recommend them to everyone I know! Check out their HUGE selection of stuff! Going in there makes me wanna use them ASAP!

    Eve's Wine 101: AV Party Rentals: My Savior in the Past and Future

    While my kitchen is going on month two of its remodel, it reminded me of the last time my kitchen was in total disarray. It started with my first holiday meal for both sides of my family and 20 pounds of potato skins that for some reason my garbage disposal couldn't handle. Remember, it was my first big meal.

    My mother-in-law had told me to rent the items I would need to prepare a meal for two-dozen relatives. AV Party Rental, then, and in my mind now, was the only place to rent party essentials.  So I got the whole tamale from them: Banquet tables, tablecloths, cloth napkins, silverware, plates, glasses, serving platters and serving utensils.  I don't even think I had enough wine glasses back then.

    Fast forward to the day of cooking.  Eddie watched me, although he'll deny it now, send every scrap of every peeled potato skin down the drain.  It stopped up.  It backed up.  During dinner I had to listen to everyone's ideas on how to wash dishes for all two-dozen of them.  "Take them outside and use the hose" and "Put them all in the bathtub and do it later" were the most memorable of choices.

    (And NO ONE offered to take them home, wash and return, the idea I kept hoping for.)

    And then my mother-in-law said, "Just do your best.  Call AV tomorrow and see what they say."  

    I called AV the next day and told them what had happened - that my guests wiped up everything the best that they could - and the AV employee told me to go ahead and bring them in.  They would do me the favor and clean the dishes for me.   I've never had to ask AV to do this for me again, but I will be forever grateful for their understanding, and for showing such compassion for my stressed out state - when they surely had enough to do.

    So, fast forward again, this time almost 25 years later, and after finding Rusty Parr, the owner of AV Party Rentals on Facebook, I gave him a brief account of what he did to save my sanity and asked, what's new at AV?

    Rusty, fancy meeting you here, what kinds of basic services does AV party rental have for those that don't know?

    We rent just about everything and anything you can think of to host an event or party: "Everything from Teaspoons to Tents," including tables & chairs, linen tablecloths and napkins, tents & canopies, and their accessories, flooring, heating, lighting, china & flatware, glassware, and serving equipment. We also carry audio/visual equipment, casino games, and children's/carnival games.

    What type of wine paraphernalia do you have for my peeps to rent for their big wine tasting parties?  (The ones they will surely hire a sommelier like me to speak at?)

    For wine tasting events, we carry glassware and china, linen of many colors, and serving trays. You just need the wine and the corkscrew.

    How much time do I have to plan in advance to say, rent a slush machine (that I plan on filling with Margaritas) for Cinco de Mayo?

    We recommend that you reserve the equipment as far in advance as possible. Although our inventory is quite extensive, there are items, such as Frozen Drink Machines, that we carry in limited quantities, which means that once they are all reserved for a single day, there are no more available.

    How long have you been in business anyway?  Is it a family-run shebang?

    My father was involved in the rental business since 1973. We separated the Party side from the Equipment side in 1978, and have been AV Party Rentals since. I grew up in the rental business, but decided to make it a career in 1981, 30 years ago. It's still a family business, run by myself, along with my sister Cathy and my brother Ryan. We still get input from our mom and dad, though, as "rental" never really leaves your blood.

    Can I have a wine event in your building?  The new one is so big!

    The only events we have at our facility are for our company. We hosted a Chamber mixer when we first moved in 2001, in which we had about 800-1000 people. We also had our first "Holiday Open House" last November, which was also a big success.

    As far as letting someone host an event here, this opens up a great big can of worms. We would, however, entertain they idea of co-hosting an event that makes sense for our business, such as a wine tasting.

    And, just to be covering all of the bases, do you rent other things besides party supplies?

    In addition to the standard party equipment, we carry audio/visual equipment, event decor, generators and power distribution equipment, and guest items such as rollaway beds and highchairs.

    As of next month, I've been using AV Party Rentals for 3 years. The past two years have been pretty successful, with a few minor setbacks here and there.

    In 2007, I ordered a blackjack table, a poker table, barstools, black chairs, and banquet tables. Everything was great, except they accidentally gave me 30 white chairs instead of black. I gave them a call and they came back with the black chairs later that day.

    Last year, I ordered banquet tables, black & white chairs, a Texas hold 'em poker table, and some round tables. Everything was great again except one of the round tables was wobbly. The Texas style poker table was much nicer and only $10 more

    This year, I am just getting just the banquet tables (for the food and drinks) and chairs. I'm on a tighter budget and since it's a dance party, I don't need lots of stuff cluttering the space. I will probably be splurging on some table linens and skirting since the cheap plastic ones I get from Party City tear and blow away.

    They an expansive variety of rental equipment to fit your theme and budget. If your party is on a Saturday, as mine are, they will drop-off on Thursday or Friday and pick up on Monday, so you have everything for a few days for the price of one. Placing and changing orders is really simple and the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly.

    AV Party Rental provided us with all of the supplies we needed for the wedding.  They have a good sized showroom where you can go check out what they have available to rent.  This was perfect because you could actually tell what the exact shade of the linens were rather than just looking at a thumbnail shot from the internet.  They came highly recommended from Paul's cousin who owns a photography studio nearby and has photographed a lot of weddings where they provided all of the supplies.  

    I was very pleased with them and will use them again if the need arises.  Everything that we ordered was delivered on time and they called the day after the wedding to see when it would be a good time to pick everything back up.  The prices were reasonable and when I called several times to change my order they always sent an updated order form.  They have everything you could think of from tableware, linens, tables, umbrellas, to heat lamps and ice chests.  There were only a couple items that I needed that they didn't have, such as corkscrews and smaller ice bins.  Aside from that, they were pretty much a one stop shop.

    Although we didn't rent them, we noticed that they have tons of stuff for children's parties:  popcorn makers, nacho makers, balloons and helium rentals.  They really have a wide range of items.

    I found this AV Party Rentals in the yellow pages, I specifically looked for the one near my parents' house.  So, I stumble across an 818 area code and decided to call and rent some tables and covers, chairs and a heater lamp.  Everything the salesperson mention was accurate but she neglected to mention about a delivery price of $50.00 from an 818 area code to another 818 area code.  If I had know during our conversation, I would of looked around some more places to rent from because at my parents house on a busy street of Topanga Canyon, there are a few party rental places.  I have ordered at other rental places before and there were no charges for delivery and if so, it would be something like $20.00.  AV Party Rentals charges a delivery of an extra $30.00 if they deliver on Saturday.  I spoke to the superviser and explained my situation.  And unfortunately she was quite rude.  
    My advice is to look at your delivery statement for additional charges that might be added without your knowledge.  And don't use any services that charges $80.00 total for delivery charges on Saturday.  Absolutely Ridiculous!!!

    What can I say about these guys other than that they were just awesome?  We used them for our wedding back on October 9, 2010.  They saved us a bundle of money in comparison to the other local rental companies and even loaded in the goods two days prior to the wedding without charging us any extra money.  The linens were so pretty!  The delivery team was on time and took the time to put everything where it belonged as opposed to the "drop and run" that I feared.  They picked everything up on time as well.  They have a pretty good selection of just about anything you need for a smashing party.  Their in-store help are very good at offering suggestions and direction for someone like me who is clueless about how to handle assembling a wedding and reception.  I needed help and got plenty of it.  Give them a try!
