Oakland, CA
I've ordered from A-Town at least 10-15 times over the past year. Their Combination pizza is a winner as are their kabob dinners. I've mainly ordered for delivery, but I have also gone in to pick up. I would recommend delivery - the actual restaurant is slightly depressing and worn looking.
Everyone at A-Town has been friendly and it takes about 45-60 minutes for delivery. For pizza in Alameda, it's either here or Croll's. They are both good, but I have no problems recommending A-Town for a quality pizza with fresh ingredients.
Note: They have made mistakes on orders before. Either forgetting the drink or making a mistake on the toppings. All I can say is be real clear when you order. I like this place. -

Ordered 3-topping pizza on November 25, 2011 at 9:45PM. Picked up at 10pm. Arrived home at 10:05PM.
We let the pizza sit for 5min to let the cheese cool (this helps from the cheese sliding off the actual pizza). Unfortunately, this was not the case. I pick up a slice and the ENTIRE cheese layer +toppings slipped right off. The sauce was still watery and the cheese was "clumpy" showing it was not fully baked. We concluded the pizza to be partially raw. We immediately rush over to A-Town (we live 3 blocks away) with intentions to correct the issue but they were closed.
Contacted A-Town pizza via http://www.atownpizza.com explaining our experience. Will update this review in 7 days to see if any attempt of correction was made. Pictures were taken and will be kept as proof upon request.
I been eating A-Town for 7 years when they originally at their Park St location. I hope they come forward and work with me on this situation. I feel they rushed this order as it was closer to closing time but that should never be an excuse.
11/29/11 update:
1 of the store managers replied to our email and said he can only offer a free pizza. He couldn't do the refund since he needed approval from the other store owner/manager. We attempted to get a hold of the other man in charge but after 2 days, we decided to just take the free pizza. They apologized and we got our free pizza. They pulled through and made a good pizza. For this I give them 4 stars. I would come back but definitely not order closer to closing time.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Ordered a salami pizza and mozzarella sticks online from GrubHub. The process was smooth and the delivery prompt. Completely forgettable pizza. The mozzarella sticks were soft and unappetizing.
I won a free drink on GrubHub though, so it gets two stars instead of one. -

Good basic pizza. Just had it tonight for the first time. We ate there. Not much in terms of atmosphere, but the service was good and the pizza came out piping hot and fresh. We'll definitely be back and we were very happy to learn that they also deliver.

Pizza is average. The guy working there is always really friendly, and the pizza is always ready in about 20 min. I would recommend for take out if you are in a rush.

Nothing nice to say, and all, but this is Yelp, so I'm saying it.
If you expect your order to be fulfilled, do not order here. If you expect that when you call an hour later that you will receive a plausible explanation as to why you have not received your pizza, do not order here. If you expect that the proprietor will be apologetic or sincere, do not order here.
If you do receive your order, do expect to be disappointed by the pizza. You may receive the requested ingredients. You may receive it warm. You may even receive what you ordered. Just please, don't expect it.
By all means order. But don't be surprised when your order doesn't appear. Don't be surprised to call and find your order was cancelled for some vague reason that 'he' (whoever 'he' is) was supposed to call and inform you. And certainly don't be surprised that you are left checking that they didn't "mistakenly" forget to revoke the charge for the non-existent order even after that follow-up conversation wherein the owner, with much rudeness and ill-will, assures you that they did. But they didn't... -

This is a review of the service as the pizza never arrived.
Owner has a brutish, nasty streak. Cancels orders at whim. Doesn't call to tell you though. Rather, that would require he be active, picking up a phone and dialing. Called to inquire, "Where's the pizza?" Order cancelled 'cause of ~mumble mumble~. lol.
Now monitoring card to ensure no abusive charges.
Edit: Ahh. And now fully reading all the reviews I see this is typical. Nice. -

This place hits the spot. First, you can order online and it works like a charm. Next, the delivery times have always been speedy. Finally, and most importantly, the food quality is high and the value is there.
Straightforward pizzas have been delicious. As opposed to a lot of other places, A-Town puts toppings right up to the edge of the crust. Their kebabs are great - my favorite is the juicy and perfectly seasoned tender lamb. The wings are kind of weak and we won't re-order them, but that's not enough to kick them down to 4 stars. Call them 4.5. -

While yes, they're pizza is still good, I've liked this place less and less over the last year or so..... Mainly because:
The owners (two Arabic dudes) are kind of rude, their prices are a little too high (even with coupon usage), and the interior of the restaurant is on the dirty side, blah looking, and nothing special whatsoever. Sports are always playing on the TV which I'm not a fan of at all either.
And I still hate the annoying name!
In their favor I do like their all day/night pizza by the slice option which I discovered not long ago. It's a decent price, which (combined with the good taste) keeps this place from being reduced to 1 star in my book.
I'd definitely rather go to like ten other way better places around here that I've discovered lately rather than this one.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Review from Jim D.
Since it was a football night I decided to check out A-Town Pizza since I did not want to drive down to Park St in downtown Alameda or drive to La Vals in the Harbor Bay area. It is located close to the Park St bridge in a small strip mall.
Ordered a large (18.95 with a coupon - chicken with pineapple) to take out and this pizza was garagantuan. Hugomongo. This pizza would be fitting if the gf and I weighed 300lbs a piece. Since that is not the case we ended up eating pizza for three days.
The thin crust was good, more doughy vs hard compared to a wood oven bake pizza. Chicken was flavorful but the toppings were drowned out by the cheese. Why did they place so much cheese on the top of the pizza. Too much cheese, I couldn't taste the red sauce. I did not order a cheese pizza.
I might give this place another try if they promise to hold back on the cheese ( I thought I wasn't lactose intolerant). A-town has other items on the menu but I was there for the pizza. -

My go-to place when I'm feeling anti-social. Their delivery guy lives in the same complex, and they deliver hella late.
Saved my hungry ass when the guy from Ching Hua couldn't find his way out of a paper bag.
Not to mention the kebabs & pizza are super tasty!
My only wish? That they delivered beer:) -

I've only had their food delivered. It's always arrived timely, with friendly service. I like that I can order online.
I think the prices are kind of high, although worth it for tasty wings and pizza. The salads are good, but the sandwiches and pasta I found to be less than stellar.
I get that pizza places want to do other things to expand their business, but I always end up being disappointed. Stick to what you know.
Definitely my go-to delivery place, I'd like to try the kebabs. -

Yeah they do not deliver to Oakland but do to my Celebrity status, a short call, and some nudging got them to actually deliver to my spot! I was pretty happy with this as I do stop in from time to time and pick up a slice.
I actually had them deliver their Kabobs, which were not too bad but for the sake of being lazy and not wanting to go anywhere, they were pretty tasty!
Overall tasty Pizza and Kabobs. -

The kid who was working the phones this past saturday should be fired.
I wanted this place over Croll's because they have a pizza and wings deal I'm a fan of.
" A-Town can you hold"
Sure.
The guy then puts me on hold for 1 minute. Then says " how can I help you " Then PUTS ME ON HOLD AGAIN, then the line dies.
So I call again, thinking "whatever"
" A-Town can you hold?" again. Sure, why not?
He puts me on hold again, then asks me " how can I help you" I say: " I'm trying to order delivery but you keep putting me on hold".
Then the kid says " Somebody keeps calling ." And ffrickin' puts me on hold again.
I hang up the phone. Good bye A-Town, never again will I call and deal with such feebleness.
YOU LOSE. -

Best pizza on the island. I always have complicated orders, and they always do it right and tasty. I also really like their hot wings and garlic twists. I've ordered with them for years, and will continue.

I just had my first pizza and salad from here. I ordered online and it was under 40 min to my door.
I enjoyed the pizza. I really like the crust and sauce. The ceasar salad was ok, nothing to brag about. I'll definitely order pizza from there again. -

Friday night pizza & movie. After yelping I landed at A-Town Pizza for a large half Hawaiian, half bbq pizza. Good sized large pizza.
The bbq pizza lacked bbq sauce and had alot of onion (not necessarily a bad thing). The Hawaii was pretty good.
Maybe next time I'd request more bbq sauce on the bbq pizza.
No coupons available online. -

I used to eat here when I was in high school! I always used to order a cheese slice for three bucks and I would come here almost every week day with my friends.
I miss A Town pizza. The employees are always nice and straight forward, and the place always seemed clean was just great to kick back and relax for a while. -

We've been looking for a good takeout/delivery pizza place in Alameda, and A-Town definitely fit the bill. The crust was baked nice and crispy, and they're pretty generous with their toppings.
Our regular order is either a pepperoni, mushroom and sausage pizza, or a white sauce pizza with chicken, tomatoes and green onions. I find the tomato sauce a tad bit too sweet, but hubby and the little man like it so I can't really complain.
I'm definitely a fan of the pizza...and after reading some of the other reviews here will try the kabobs next time. -

We decided to do delivery tonight and decided why not try this place after looking at the reviews....
So I ordered online for my gf and I, which was straight forward and easy, which made it very quick seeing how people said in previous reviews about the inconsistent phone etiquette...
So we ordered the lamb kabobs plate, the meat lasagna, and the garlic twists.....the kabobs definitely exceeded my expectations and the rice, bread, and side vegetable/sauce was great too....kabobs were well seasoned and not dry at all.....the meat lasagna was also tasty, a great portion...garlic twists were bountiful and great garlic flavor....
Overall a great place to get delivery.....I will try the pizza for sure next time! -

This is the best bang for your buck pizza joint on the island. I usually order a couple slices to go and they fill a small pizza box. The staff is really friendly and the pizza is consistently good. I can't comment on the delivery service as I'm usually in and out of A-town in less than 10 minutes, so I've never used it.

We order delivery pizza from A-Town way too often, and I have never had trouble with the people on the phone. I almost never get put on hold either - and in fact, when I was ordering today, the guy made a point of checking whether or not they had the chicken kebabs, which I appreciate.
The pizza is really pretty good (not Zachary's, but good basic pizza). The red sauce is tasty and they put enough cheese on. They are not heavy handed with ingredients (which is a plus or minus, depending on your perspective) but some of the special pizzas are delicious (the Garlic Supreme stands out as something pretty special.)
For delivery, they often deliver earlier than their estimate (it was only 30 minutes today - Sunday, early evening - though I was told 45-50 minutes) and all the delivery guys have been good about actually delivering (we live in duplex with a broken doorbell - definitely a few obstacles for deliveries!) One time they guy came back again because he could not get my husband on the phone. I appreciate that determination.
The salads and kebabs are all decent - I remember enjoying the rice a lot and the meat being well seasoned and cooked properly (but it has been a couple of years). I ordered the small garden salad for $2.50 and although it is not exciting, it's pretty big.
A Town is a great standby when you do not want to cook or go anywhere else for food. -

Been here a couple of times now & enjoyed the food. The first visit I had a bbq sandwich. Very tasty & a large serving. The second visit I came back with quite a few family members. We ordered a bbq chicken pizza, combo pizza, bbq chicken sandwich and the ribs. The ribs were a big hit with my aunts, uncles and parents. Such a hit, that they forgot about eating pizza and quickly requested for another order of ribs!
My family and I will definately come back if we're in the area again... -

Ok, this is some dang good pizza. It's so good, that me and my roommates order almost every week. For the past 3 years even. Do the math, that's a lot of consuming.
So why one star? Terrible, TERRIBLE SERVICE TO LONG-TERM LOYAL CUSTOMERS! See if we order from this place again.
Tonight, we placed an order for a large veggie pizza with garlic on half. And the pizza arrived, garlic on the whole thing. So, after thoroughly inspecting the entire pizza (I'm allergic to garlic, but man was I hungry!), we decided that heck, we're good customers, let's tell them about the problem and see if they'll send us a replacement pizza. Typical practice, no?
What was not typical was the person who answered the phone stating repeatedly, "There is no mistake! My pizza maker said there is no mistake!" He said that he couldn't send out another large pizza unless we were willing to pay for it. We offered to return the pizza back to the store so he could see for himself. He then told us we could get a SMALL as a replacement, but only if we were willing to wait over an hour. We are currently waiting. And I am hungry. For my garlic-eating counterparts were able to partake in the feast and alas, I have to wait an extra hour. For my little replacement pizza. That probably has spit in it now too.
This pizza is not cheap. It's not Domino's or Little Caesars. Both of whom I know would be happy to have our business AND redeliver us a pizza if they messed up. There is no excuse for what just happened here.
** EDIT ** 3 hours still no pizza :( :( :( -

A Town Pizza is well worth your money. The large pizza is a true large with cheese that will have you coming back for more. You can always get them to throw in free garlic bread when buying a large, and have them put cheese on it for .50!
Delivery time is decent. -

I've only gotten delivery from A-Town. We were ordering from here at least once a week when we first moved here about two years ago, but I switched to Dominos for a time for the cheapness and the ordering onlineliness. But, I'm now SICK of Dominos and just found out that AJs has online ordering. I don't know why I like this option so much, but I do. We love the pizza, but I also love the kebobs so the family can have the pie and I can have the meat/rice dish, without having to leave home or cook it myself. Glad to be back with AJs!

Big fan of their pizza, for carry-out or delivery. Big slices and excellent flavors - especially the sausage pizza. Their restaurant is very bland and sterile feeling. Sports TV on in the corner. Soda coolers in the other corner. Not a place to take a date, for sure.

I was famished after the White Elephant Sale so i headed to A Town Pizza. A Town has been on my Bucket List for a while . I take my Pizzas seriously LOL. A-Town is located in a Strip Mall Right next to the Park Street Bridge. I arrived at A-Town and its a hole in the wall . It is nice bright restaurant ,modern furnishings and has a Flat Screen for entertainment. The majority of A Towns business is Take Out. So I ordered an All Meat Pizza which is Pepperoni,Ground Beef,Sausage and Linguica. It took about 20 min. The pizza was cook to Perfection. it was thinly sauced with a good amount of Cheese and Toppings.. It was a Delicious treat. Ill definitely return to A -Town. A plus they even take Discover card.

Wow, I would never have guessed I could order a delicious Kabob meal complete with rice, salad, bread, and kabobs for just under $11 bucks. The meat was perfect, not chewy, just right, the salad was fresh and the bread was just baked. I did not have the pizza but the wife said she wished it was a little more crispy. I would say try them out and see what you think.

I have to agree with Sarah Z (and a couple of others)...the pizza is great, but the owners are SOOO rude! Don't EVER call back if there is a mistake or any sort of problem - they YELL at you! I actually stopped ordering from there because of that. I think service is just as important as taste.

Great, authentic Kabob ... Dumb staff.
"A Town Pizza - Please hold" - then on hold for 5 minutes. Then he asks for my phone number 3 times. This happens almost every time I call. Put down the bong, guys.
I have not had the pizza, but I can vouch for the Kebab. It is authentic afghan style stuff, comes with rice and salad, and has an interesting, spicy sauce to put over the salad / meat. -

We are big fans of A-Town. We especially love their kabobs - the meat is really tender and well-seasoned, the rice is awesome, and so is the bread. We also really like their pizza. The crust is amazing and tasty! We typically do delivery and they generally come in the time they say they will be there. The drivers have all been really friendly and our order has always been correct. If we were eating carbs these days we would frequent them a LOT. ;)

Good pizza. Crispy crust. We had a couple of different types and both people and dogs liked 'em both. The garlic sticks are outstanding. Would definitely be four stars plus if judged solely by the food. The lack of fountain drinks is always a disappointment for me. Cans are fine but not my thing. A-Town is located in a strip mall and shows it. Small and not very homey atmosphere. More like a cafeteria than a pizza parlor. Outdoor seating is a plus, especially for those of us who like to dine with dogs, but the parking lot location means that the outdoor area is as bland and non-viewful as one can get.

Loved the pizza. We ordered a large cheese and mushroom with fresh tomatoes on half. It was delicious....and huge! Next time we might just get a medium for two of us. The pizza is thin with lots of cheese and the sauce is great. We also ordered the cheesy garlic bread and it was baked to perfection, crispy bread, but soft in the middle with the cheese melted just enough. This might just become our go to pizza place!

Good pizza. Moved from their dingy former bar location to a new strip mall where you can actually eat in a very pleasant location. Delivery was fine, and now A-Town can actually seat you in their restaurant. Also serving kebabs, which I found a bit dry.

I only gave it 3 stars because my table was sticky... -1... i can't stand sticky tables. but besides that, the pizza was good, and the employees were friendly. It was NBA finals night, and there were a couple large groups in there, so it got pretty loud, but my boys and I still enjoyed it.
we got half All Meat and half Pesto. The pesto was quit good. Crispy/chewy crust. good balance of sauce, cheese and toppings. It was quite tasty and i'll likely go back with my whole family. -
