I am giving 5 stars because I believe this is one of the best little finds in town.  If my fiance hadn't noticed this store/sandwich shop as I was driving by, I may have missed it.  It is located on University where the street has a small jig by the BP gas tank yard.  I was concentrating on why the street would seem to end and then begin again a block later, so when he wanted to have lunch here I wasn't sure what he was talking about.

Upon entering we immediately felt like we were part of a larger family. With the history in pictures on the walls, the friendly smiles and the helpful suggestions for our lunch purchases we were made to feel welcome and sat down at one of the small tables to enjoy our food.  I had the Graziano Sausage Sandwich with onions, cheese and peppers and my honey had the Pastrami on marble bread with pickles and mustard.  I am a bit embarrassed to say we moaned out loud as we ate the most yummy sandwiches we can remember enjoying.  We also tried the potato salad, some spicy fire chips and the Tradewinds Sweet Tea that added the perfect compliment to the sandwiches.  We finished with a Peanut Butter & Jelly Cupcake made by TracieCakesDSM.  I am not a big fan of Peanut Butter like my honey, but it was a nice treat.

If you are looking for a quick bite to eat with a family friendly feel, or want to pick up some premade meals for dinner tonight (lasagna, tortellini, sauces), this is the place.  Enjoy!

When you walk into this place the smell of it is what I think angels smell like. I will tell you that I am full blooded Italian, so that could be a bias statement.

Ether way this is a great, little known place, in West DeMo. They just have the very basics of what you need on the shelves (not a large enough selection that's why the 4 star). You can get a 4oz bag of Italian Seasoning for $3.25. Just to let you know that is a hell of a deal.

The Deli is the gem of this place. They have the same meats that Graziano Brothers deli has. Just on the west side, and they serve really good deli sandwiches at lunch!

Go in on a Wednesday or Friday and have a Chicago style roast beef! It's so good that the next time your tongue hears someone suggest quiznos, it will literally jump out of your mouth and slap the person.

If you don't want large crowds go any other day of the week and get any of the deli sandwiches.

This was my first trip to A Taste of Italy, so I relied on the gentleman behind the counter to help me with a selection.  He recommended the Chicago Style Beef,  which was the daily special.  With this sandwich, you have your choice of sweet or hot peppers and the option to toast the bun.  I decided on hot peppers and a toasted bun.  The Chicago Style Beef also came with a side of au jus rather than being dipped.  Absolutely delicious!  The sandwich was loaded with tender, juicy beef and the amount of peppers was perfect.  There were enough peppers to add heat, but they were not overwhelming.  I recommend A Taste of Italy to anyone looking for inexpensive, tasty Italian sandwiches and great, friendly service.  I can't wait to go back!

Such a good little place hidden in a little strip of businesses in Clive.  When I was back in Iowa this past December we went in and got awesome meatball sandwiches.  I have had a lot of pepperoni and provolone sandwiches from here, as well.  I am a total sucker for the light little Gauntis cookies they sell.
