I don't give out 5 stars that often. I never have Burma food before so this was my first time. I went here on Thursday night for dinner with my wife(she came back from a business trip). We ordered the House Special Sampler Platter(Appertizer contains tempura shrimp, tempura squash, chickpea fritters, and fried chickpea tofu), Beansprout Shrimp Salad, and Lamb Curry. All three are really good. They are cooked perfectly.
I would definitely come back here again. The only bad thing I can say is don't order the Burma Special Coffee for dinner. I didn't sleep until 3 am because I was so wired the whole night. -

We went here as its in the neighborhood AND a friend suggested we go here. Here are a few observations.
Staff - Very friendly (no complaints)
Vegtable Samosa - Good but not great
Hot & Sour Lemongrass Soup - AMAZING.... the best part of our dinner
Chili Chicken - Good but very salty
Dragin Eye Oolong Tea - Ok..... it came out luke warm, would be better if hot. -
Review from Ryan M.
Stopped here for lunch and (thank you Yelp!) it was a fantastic choice!
Any meal that starts with a warm towel to clean your hands has to be at least decent. We had the sweet basil chicken and the coconut curry chicken, and both were incredibly fresh and delicious. Service was ok, decor was nice, and prices were a little on the high side, but we had never had Burmese before (think Thai with a twist) and it was a solid spot. -

I'm travelling a lot for business - what a positive surprise this restaurant was! Went there for dinner & I never had Burmese food before -- but I think this might be as good as it get's. Had the "Dozen Ingredients Soup" (6.00 for one) and the PanThay StirFry with chicken (12.00) which I requested spicy. Both dishes were delicious - with the StirFry having the "perfect heat". The service was very attentive and fast.
What a great way to get "introduced to Burmese food"! -

Excellent authentic Burmese food however, the service needs major help. We came on a Saturday night and there was one waiter working and two hostesses. WHY are there two hostesses? We sat there for what seemed to be a lifetime before someone acknowledged us. Even through the meal, getting a glass of water was painful. Please work on this!
The food is fantastic, especially the curry dishes. My personal favorite is coconut curry.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Being a Burmese, its tough to please us when it comes to Burmese food or even Asian Food. We are picky and we demand quality food! This place meets our expectations every time we eat there. For those who aren' familiar with Burmese food, I recommend a few dishes that will blow your mind.. Their menu consists of some typical chinese stir fry style dishes too we always stay away from those as we only like to eat Authentic Burmese..
Our fav appetizers are :
Split Yellow Pea Fritters ,
Fried Yellow Burmese Tofu (this is not typical tofu you have tasted before..a must try) & Vegetable Samusa (this is Burmese version of indian samusa, perfect!!)
If you want authentic Burmese entree , try following
Crispy bean sprout & Shrimp salad ( this is my mom's favorite)
and almost all their salads are very good.. hard to name my favorite. If you are new to Burmese , try Burmese chickpea tofu salad .. the flavors are amazing.
OK I can go on n on about this , i should stop now.. :D
This is a family own restaurant so you will have to be patience with their service sometimes, but the food is well worth the wait. They prepare everything fresh and uses quality ingredients for their dishes. -

I am a big fan of the restaurant next door but my husband was not very hungry and I wanted to try something new, so I tried Taste of Burma based on good recommendations from other people.
I am a wimp when it comes to spicy food and my dish was more spicy than I would normally eat - the Coconut Chicken - but it tasted so good I ate it anyway :) We had the Fried Yellow Burmese Tofu on a recommendation from previous Yelper and they were awesome! My husband's dish was also quite good, however I cannot remember what it was.
The service was so so - it was quite empty when were there but not too terrible.
I have heartburn now from the spicy food but will still come back....although I will try to find something less spicy next time... ;) -

This was a sweet discovery. Food is amazingly good. Everything I ate here was like nothing I have tried before and it was delicious! I was in a large group, so I tasted different dishes that I couldn't name now, but I'd recommend everything in the menu (if that helps)
One other thing that I really liked, is that tables are round and large here, so you can see all your party's paces and have a nice time eating and chatting. -

This place was good, but not everything is great. Some dishes are significantly better than others. There is a solid selection of vegetarian dishes that would satisfy both the vegetarian and the carnivore.
As far as the flavor of the food here, you can taste a clear Indian influence and of course some elements similar to the flavor of foods from neighboring SE Asian nations, but it's a completely different taste from Indian and SE Asian food. The flavor was a pleasant surprise--a nice spice, a slight tang, a mild sweetness and a hint of dark flavor as well from spices (garam masala-type flavor).
I had the tamarind curry veggies which were nice and crispy, but didn't absorb the flavor of the sauce as much as I hoped. I would definitely order the egg curry (sliced hard boiled eggs, cubed potatoes, and veggies in a spicy red curry) that my friend got the next time. The sauce was thicker, spicier, and darker in flavor and the dish was very hearty. My tamarind curry was very satisfying in terms of portion, too. Portions here are pretty much perfect--satisfying, but not stuffing.
Price was on par with what you'd expect for Thai. I would go back and likely get the egg curry, yum! -
Review from Steve L.
You know it's good when you wake up the next morning and you're craving more.
The Gold Mountain Noodles are good - sort of like thin spaghetti with a creamy sauce that's only slightly coconutty, and hit with a touch of citrus.
The Triple Layer Pork was full of intense flavor and had some decent heat to it. The flavor wasn't complex but it's the kind of flavor that you soak up with a bowl of rice to enjoy right down to the very last grain.
The Tofu with Pickled Mustard Greens turned out better than I thought it would be. The greens really helped give the tofu some stronger flavor without going overboard and the other seasonings kicked up the flavor profile with heat that my wife couldn't handle.
Jarrett B's coconut rice with beef was good, but not great. We agreed that the rice could use more coconut to it (and I don't even care for coconut), and the beef that accompanied the rice tasted just like chili to me after eating all the other food.
I definitely want to come back and try more. I'm not a fan of coconut so I appreciate the lightness in coconut flavor of the dishes we tried and I love that the food is generally spicy.
The service is bad though. But that's what you get when you hire emo high school kids that seem to be less interested in serving than they are in competing to see who has the tightest pants. (p.s. Everyone loses) -

I have been to Taste of Burma four times, and each time the food is just as good as I remember it. The curries have the right balance of heat and spice and are always full of fresh vegetables. The noodle dishes are perfectly cooked, and never greasy/sticky which can commonly be the case.
So far I have had the
- Samosas = great taste/texture but on the small size, the mint sauce is the perfect companion
- Yellow Burmese Tofu = AMAZING, by far my favorite app
- Tea Leaf Salad = light and refreshing with great taste and texture
- Green Curry Vegetables = slightly salty but great spice and the vegetables were perfection
- Singapore Noodles = possibly favorite dish on the menu, the noodles are perfectly cooked and the heat is just right ( normally request spicy). The vegetables tend to vary based on what is available, which I prefer.
- Mandalay Noodles = love the mix of soft and crispy noodles and while the sauce can be thick/gritty at times it hasn't stopped my other half from ordering this all four times we have visited.
- Rangoon Night Market Noodles = there is a reason ths dish is noted as Chef Special, I'm normally not a fan of celery but this dish was perfection -

The first time I came here I didn't really care for this restaurant, but I decided to return; kind of like how the Burmese kept returning to invade Siam back in the day. Unlike the aggressive history of the Burmese people, their wait staff was anything but. Both times I've eaten here it has taken ridiculously long just to place a drink order. It's my theory that based on the slow service, the ruling junta decided to change their country's name from Burma to Myanmar to show that the restaurant is not representative of the country.
All kidding aside, I did enjoy my meal. For an appetizer I went with the summer rolls and for the main course I went with the Chili Chicken. I would rate "A Taste of Burma" a solid 3.5. The menu is pretty elaborate, so I would probably return to try something else. -

Make that 3-1/2 stars. Though I'm a newbie to this cuisine, I liked the new tastes..particularly the spicier dishes. The ambience was better than expected for a strip-mall location and the service was good.
I'd highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who is adventurous and particularly those with a preference for spicy dishes. -

I must say one of the tasiest food I have ever tasted and I am not shy when it comes to trying out new spots. Lots of flavor and perfect balance of spices and colors makes food from Burma very appealing to me.
Fermeneted TEA Leaf salad is one my favorite. Also I enjoy the fact as a vegetrian I have lots of options to choose from.
If you are a typcial meat and potato eater then this is not a place for you but if you like to add some excitment to your tongue then give this place a try. -

Very good. If you haven't had Burmese, it's a bit of a cross between Thai and Indian. This place has fair prices, decent service, and delicious food. My one recommendation is to order things spicy - otherwise, those who are used to Thai or Indian will be disappointed.

To be honest, I'm generally too lazy to write reviews, but this place deserves a departure from my usual silence. I was down in the Sterling area on business and looking for someplace to have a good lunch. A Taste of Burma was highly reviewed, and I hadn't had Burmese cuisine before, so following my rule of "when traveling, never eat anything boring". I went for lunch.
I had the Green Mango Salad and the Chicken and Pickled Mustard Greens. The salad came out very quickly and I could tell from the aroma that I was in for something good. Wow is all I have to say. The flavors in this salad are indescribable. It was so amazingly full of flavor and a nice spicy heat that I set it to the side to wait for my main since I was certain that it couldn't possibly be as flavorful. I was wrong. The Chicken was aromatic and full of flavor and spice just like the salad.
I couldn't stop myself from devouring the salad, but got another with the dressing on the side to take home for my wife tonight. I left her half of my main too since I honestly felt guilty that I was getting to experience this amazing lunch and she wasn't.
I'd give it six stars if I could. I live almost 100 miles from Sterling, but I'll be looking for excuses to come back as long as A Taste of Burma is open... -

This restaurant kinda surprised me I should say. I was very unsure when I went there as to what type of food experience will it be. Will the food taste more Indian or will it be Thai like, or will it be some bad concoction of things?. Taste of Burma provided me with a flavor and experience that I should say was a lot different than all these other neighboring cuisines.
We ordered Split Yellow Pea Fritters for the appetizers and I was completely blown away by the texture of the fritters and the accompanying sauces.
For the entree portion, being vegetarian (ovo-lacto) - we ordered the Potato Egg Curry as well as the Coconut Tofu curry. Both were exceptional.
We finished off with the wheat cake - the halwa and that was alright ( that is where the 4 star comes from - more like a 41/2 )
The ambiance is great and the owners really do care about your experience. I was wondering where the "south indian" influence in the food was coming from. I had a great chat with the owners (since we were there almost closing time on Tuesday) and turns out that the restaurant is being run by a burmese - tamil burmese couple.
Overall, a great experience, I will go back again to this one for sure as there is a lots more that I would like to try from their menu. -

This place is a gem. Delicious food and wonderful family owners, I love supporting this restaurant. I frequently do takeout but have eaten in the restaurant many times. Wait staff varies from ok to great, if you're lucky enough to have the owners' kids then you'll have great service.
But the food is what really matters and the dishes here are delicious. There are many things to try: chicken with pickled mustard greens, goat curry, water spinach and garlic, and fermented tea salad (for the brave, you'll likely only want a little so share it with your dining mates). -
Review from Chunnu B.
Definitely a solid four stars. I was pretty excited to be here, I'd never had Burmese food before. Or should I say, Myanmar food. What's even more exciting is anticipating food which has been influenced by a bunch of different cultures. Burma is surrounded by Laos, Thailand, India, Bangladesh, and China - that's a whole lot of awesome right there.
Ok, so service probably is not the best here. To be quite honest, it was pretty freaking slow. While you're sitting there though, enjoy looking around - it was well decorated.
You can skip on appetizers but, if you must, get the samosas, those were pretty decent. Definitely pass on the chicken satay, PLEASE.
DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT leave this place without getting their LAMB CURRY. That's, L.A.M.B. C.U.R.R.Y. Lamb curry! Write that down. Excellent, spicy gravy and meat that just fell apart. The Triple Layer Pork was crispy and pretty good as well. The egg potato curry was great, beef and potatoes was alright, beef and basil was good. By the looks of the pictures I took, I think we ordered the chili chicken as well.
As for those little after dinner candies, the general consensus at our table was, "Nope. Not good."
Spice lovers, you will love this place. You know the food is good when the table goes silent and the focus is consuming the food. -

This is one of those cases where I wish you could either give 4 1/2 stars or rate the food differently from the service!
The food is a SOLID five stars! Sooooo good! Even the quantity is perfect; choices are endless, spice is just right. I've had lamb curry, goat curry, samosas, etc and all were amazing but add the coconut rice and I'm in heaven. *drool*
The service is good, but due to being occasionally overwhelmed by volume of customers (there are worse problems), you can experience issues such as ordering beef but getting chicken, getting 4 copies of the specials menu instead of 1 copy of the regular menu, or the bill may take a while to show up at the table. It's difficult to criticize because the wait staff is very accommodating, very pleasant, and the owners clearly care about your dining experience.
I'm looking forward to going back at least as many times as it takes to try everything on the menu. Nothing has disappointed us yet! -
Review from Julie D.
I used to live in San Francisco and was within walking distance to Burma Super Star (only the best Burmese restaurant ever!!!!) so I feel like I am slightly jaded when it comes to Burmese. I mean, when I left SF I had dreams about the Rainbow salad. *drool*
Enough about that though, last night my fiance, mother-in-law (who I had to really convince to go cause she is not one to try new things), and I went to Taste of Burma for the first time and I have to say the only reason it does not get 5 stars is because it is not Burma Super Star. For our appetizer we ordered the House Special Sampler Platter just so that my mother-in-law could get a feel for the type of food she was about to eat. It consisted of samosas, tempura shrimp, tempura squash, chick pea fritters, fried tofu, and a variety of sauces (tamarind/mint, a hot chili/mustard, and onion chutney). Everything was pretty good but nothing was really that special, still good though.
For entrees we ordered the Green Mango Salad (for everyone to share), Lamb Curry, Pork and Mango, and Pan Thay Stir Fry. I tried everyone's dish but I would have to say that the Lamb Curry was by far my favorite. The lamb was seasoned perfectly and so tender that it just melted in your mouth. It was actually so delicious that with every bite I had a very hard time not making "ooooo mmmm" noises. The Green Mango Salad was also DELICIOUS. It is the type of salad that I could eat everyday. All the ingredients in the salad are shredded so it is presented almost like a slaw but the flavors are very complex.
If you are vegetarian this is a good place to go because they offer a fairly good amount of vegetarian dishes that sound delicious. A Taste of Burma won me over and I KNOW i will be coming back here. Very, Very, Very soon. -

I've never eaten inside, I've always gotten take-out. It takes a while because they make everything to order. The owners kids are servers and work the counter. They're always polite and helpful!
The thing I go back for is the samosas. Unlike Indian samosas, think "egg roll" wrapping, Taste of Burma's samosa is wrapped in delicate paper, think "spring roll". I love this version! I've gotten the sampler app platter, but prefer to get only the samosas to start things off. Mongolian beef is good, but the beef is soft - so you're not getting the crisp PF Chang's version. Curried chicken and potatoes was good and spicy. I wasn't a fan of the fried rice (ordered that for the kids). The pork belly was tasty, but I wish it was cooked longer and caramelized. Maybe I should ask next time...? I'm craving it now... -
Review from Brian P.
I was visiting from out of town and choose this place to meet some friends because it had good reviews and Burma is one of the few Asian countries I have not been to. Wow. What a great experience. The food is terrific. The pea fritters were fantastic. We also ordered some eggplant and a beef dish. Things were slightly spicy which we all liked. It reminded me of Thai food but slightly different. They also have an extensive beer menu from all over South East Asia which is a nice touch. I read on their website that the family running the restaurant use to cook at the US Embassy before the Junta took over in the 90's.
Note: they have a coupon for buy one get one half off on their website. Print it out before coming. -

I've eaten here a couple of times. It will be a while before I have sampled even a quarter of their menu, but what i have sampled has been nothing short of amazing. If you are a fan of complex flavors, you must try the Green Mango Salad as a starter. It's kinda like coleslaw, but with strong flavors of spicy, hot, sweet, peanut, garlic. Okay, sounds gross, but is sooo good. I am a big fan of their green curry chicken. But, my go-to dish has got to be the Lamb Curry. The meat and spices are simmered to perfection. I must break my addiction and move on to something else next time. Also, if you like spinach try theirs sauteed with raisins and pine nuts. The eggplant is also very very good.
My experience with the waitstaff has always been pleasant. Slightly slow when crowded, but nothing that a raised hand and motion has not been able to fix smartly. I wouldn't deduct a star from the food and atmosphere because of it. -
Review from Ruth C.
Four and a half stars. Things that I disliked that didn't detract from the rating: bathrooms are single occupancy (just a personal peeve-- I prefer at least 2 stalls but given the location I do understand why it's like this here), this parking lot is a baby labyrinth, slight miscommunication about my check inquiry. After-meal mints were appropriate for the venue, and while not ones I'd rave about, that didn't stop me from yoinking the one Lester declined. Overall impression is that if I'm near the Dulles Town Center I'd be eager to try more of their menu.
The lunch special is a pretty good value-- choice from an abbreviated selection of entrees, accompanied by two slender vegetable spring rolls with sweet and sour sauce. The rolls didn't dazzle me, but they had a nice crunch and no drip, so no complaints either. Their street corner chai is described on the menu as black tea with condensed and evaporated milk. It blends well into an intriguing flavor that isn't at all sweet, which wasn't what I was hoping for but don't regret trying.
Lester got the chili chicken and green curry, Tim got the basil chicken, James got the pumpkin curry to support my curiosity, and I beelined for the coconut curry chicken. Chopsticks and spice rack available on request. From sampling the pumpkin curry, I gathered that it was quite a light but tasty vegetarian alternative. I think a dinner of that would really hit the spot after, say, a meat-heavy lunch buffet. My curry was creamy, great consistency and flavor. Chicken done just a bit past ideal tenderness, but by no means chewy or toughened. I'd still order it again, and also recommend this to others to try. The basil chicken was cooked to similar doneness, but in much smaller cuts resulting in a more uniform texture.
This review is brought to you by Ruth "I am reviewing this live on an invisible Blackberry" C. who was happy to see Lester "I would make a good spy because I watch out the window via reflection of the art's glass pane" K. and James "I would make a terrible spy because trotting past the White House with a backpack and black trenchcoat doesn't sound alarming" L. again, and pleased to finally meet Tim "Why didn't I mapquest this before clicking I'm In?" T. For a brief moment when Lester was building his abominable riceman, I thought I might finish before him... and then as I was serving myself the last bit of coconut curry he finished his second entree. I don't see how I could ever eat that quickly and still carry on a conversation. :( My first Lester-adjacent meal and I still missed the magic, shame on me!Listed in: Nom nom nom!

Five stars? You betcha. While on my way out to the Leesburg Outlets I decided to stop at these "hole in the wall" establishment. The place was empty, but that didn't detract from the awesome food and service.
The lady who seemed to be the owner and cook came out to provide her recommendations and thought on different dishes, mostly because I wanted to order about 9 different things. I ended up going with the Goat Curry. Let me say, i wish i could go back and order it again right now. By far some of the best curry I have had in this country. The goat was tender and most of it, still on the bone.
My gf ordered the green vegetable curry which was just perfect. Sometimes you get curry that you can see the oil separate from the curry, not as appetizing. This was not the case here. The curry was delicious, creamy and had a subtle spice to it that left a great taste in your mouth.
This place isn't too far from my office and I have a feeling there will be many take-out to eat at home meals from this place in the future.Listed in: 5 Stars

A buddy and I came here at the awkward time of 3pm on a Sunday after hitting the gym. It was understandably empty, but we were cheerfully seated by owner/chef Joanna.
We started chatting with her about the food from that region and asked for recommendations. We started with a mixed plate of Split Yellow Pea Fritters (Baya Gyaw) and samosas. We asked her for her favorite goat dish and to surprise us for the second main.
The samosas were light and tasty, but the baya gyaw, which were similar to falafel, were fantastic.
Next she served us two complementary bowls of fish stew. It was a cold, rainy day and it was brilliant. She recommended a spritz of fresh lime, some fresh cilantro and some smoked red pepper flakes, which made it just mouth watering.
Next were her recommendations of goat curry and spicy scallops. The curry was just top notch. It easily rivaled the best I've eaten in SE Asia. A must-try, for sure. The scallops were very tasty too, cooked just perfectly and in a not-too-spicy sauce.
She also surprised us with a complimentary mango salad, which was a great compliment to the mains as a palate cleanser.
In between courses, Joanna stopped by a couple times to see how we were liking the food and we chatted some more. She's such a wonderful host.
The location is unfortunately kind of hard to find, but well worth the trip! -

Here's how it breaks down:
+1.5 Singapore Noodles - awesome enough for a 0.5 bonus!!
+1 Coconut Tofu Curry
+1 Burmese Iced Tea, Burmese Iced Coffee
+1 Authentic, warm decor along with traditional music for ambiance
+1 Friendly service
+1 Excellent vegetarian options
-1 Not clearing the table next to us until halfway through our dinner
-1 Laying down a stack of plates and silverware rather than setting the table
-1 Spotty service, particularly with refilling drinks and not coming by often enough to replace the empty condiments.
Total: If I could, I would give it a 3.5 but after a fantastic meal at A Taste of Burma I'm in a good mood, so I'll round up to 4. The four of us ordered 2 apps and 3 dishes to share, which was the absolute perfect amount of food. The variety between Potato Egg Curry, Singapore Veggie Noodles and Coconut Tofu offered a myriad of flavors that satisfied the diverse set of palettes at the dining table. The food was superb, with the only complaints regarding service. For a suburban restaurant tucked away in a strip mall, that place is exceptional, give it a shot! -
Review from Chris D.
I'd known this place was there for as long as I can remember, but never really had the desire to see what it was all about. Yelp reviews convinced me and after eating there, I'm actually kinda pissed at myself for missing out on the deliciousness all this time. At least I know now.
Without straying too far into doing something they're not good at, Taste of Burma manages to cut a wide swath across preparations and tastes. I believe there is something for everyone on the menu. I've only had it once, but I can tell the Sweet Basil Beef is going to be a long-time personal favorite of mine. Want something lighter? Go for the citrusy noodle salads that are a specialty in Burmese cuisine. Yay Burma! ...or is it Myanmar?!Listed in: Are you LoCo?, Thank You Yelp

This place was a plus 5 stars. Upon walking into the small but beautifully decorated place I was made to feel like I was having dinner at someone's house. It was that quaint and inviting. My friend ordered the coconut beef on my suggestion and I ordered the curry tofu with eggs? Sorry I can't really recall the dish but it was listed under the vegetarian section.
Both were SO delicious. Everything came out not too quick and not too slow. Just perfect. I hope to return soon considering my friend lives just down the street. I definitely recommend you go here if you love indian or thai food.

Mango salad was fresh and tasty with a spicy kick, lemongrass soup was nice, and also got green curry chicken dish was had very nice flavor but little lacking on spice in the curry (maybe I'm wrong but I was expecting some spice in curry dish)
Over all food was good but a bit mild when it come to spice, might be good for those we does not spice food, but the service was very slow. I was told there service is the not fast when it comes to taking order but food does come out fast once they get the order in. -

I'm gonna have to upgrade this place. I think I just ordered the wrong things last time, or the lack of spice ruined the experience. This time, we made sure everything was extra spicy, and I was very satisfied with the results.
The best dishes, in my opinion, were the chili chicken, chili shrimp, and coconut shrimp curry. I was less enthusiastic about the Mongolian beef and coconut chicken curry noodles.
The family that runs the restaurant is really nice, and I highly recommend supporting this local business.1 Previous Review: Show all »
