Just thought the guys at A Street, Downtown San Diego, should know that I appreciate everything they are doing and have ever done for me and several of my close friends in reference to our vehicles. They have risen to the top when doing their job. The work is always done to the highest standards and is double-checked by the owner on a regular basis before you get the "It's Ready Call". I've trusted them with all of my car for several years now, from German and Japanese to my favorite good ol' American models. They can do it all. And if they can't, they'll tell you right up front. Small repairs, large repairs or replacements and smogs, A Street Auto should be on your list of trusted mechanics and valued shops.

Friendly and helpful staff.
Willing to help us get our car in for service with some vague explanation of what sound it was making and my un-educated estimate of what the problem might be!
Once in, they found out the problem and fixed us up right quick. The part was retreived from a local dealer, and the labor and parts fees were very reasonable.
They even gave us a full explanation of what the issue was and a drawing of how it all went together.
If the car has any more issues, i'll definitely be back!! -

Have you ever known a mechanic who will come jump start your truck on a Friday at 6pm??!! Well these guys did that for me when I was stuck in a bind and my truck wouldn't start. I was in the middle of my work day and didn't have time to waste.
They came and jump started my truck and followed me to their shop. They were able to get me a new battery in no time, and for a decent rate! I have been to these guys in the past and I have always felt like they have taken care of me and never quoted me more than it should be. They explain everything and are very personable. I have recommended friends to them many times and everyone who has left their shop has said the same thing...Grade A Service!!
Thanks to these guys, my team at Walk N Roll Doggie never has to worry about their cars, they are always in good hands! -

These are the facts that you need to make the choice for your next repair for the reasons above and if you work downtown the convenience is perfect - no shuttles! -

A Street Auto in Downtown San Diego provided me with the best service last week. The reason I am writing this review is because I was so impressed with their staff and service tech's. I brought in my daughter's 2001 Jetta for a Coolent leak. While I was in filling out the paper work, the two young tech's got right on the job and explained to my daughter that she was using the wrong Coolent for the Jetta; for one. They took the time to educate my daughter and not just fix the problem. This was even when Scott, the owner, was on vacation and you would have never known. Mike at the service desks rock's too.
"Ladies and Men that get ripped off, this is a safe place to get to the bottom of your auto repair and not have to feel cheated".
Thanks Guy's,

Have been here twice and felt the work done there was honest and efficient.
The first time I had a tire problem, and although I don't remember the details I remember thinking, wow, Scott was great and honest. He could have suggested a pricier solution, but didn't.
This time just for an oil change and to check a few other things. Scott was good to me again making a few suggestions for the next time I bring the car for an oil change, but not trying to sell services all over the place to me.
The shop is super convenient for me to walk to so that is a huge plus as well. -

The world must be coming to an end--a group of trustworthy mechanics who haven't tried to screw over a poor little girl who knows very little about cars!!!!
I exaggerate a little, obviously, but in all seriousness, the guys at A Street Auto are a group that I take my car to for any problem and recommend to anyone and everyone. I discovered them when my old car died in the middle of an intersection in downtown San Diego. Fortunately, some very nice people helped me push my car to the side, where I then called AAA. The tow truck driver took me to A Street Auto, since it was the closest. The problem was a dead fuel pump coil (I think--this was a few years ago, so I can't quite remember). Scott and the other guys at A Street Auto were very helpful with my car problem and even talked to my parents about it. (My stepdad was a little worried, so he insisted on talking to Scott.)
The fuel pump was replaced, but was in fact replaced with a defective pump. So for the next two months, my car would intermittently die, including once in a drive-up ATM and another time in downtown San Diego traffic. While the problem was being diagnosed, Scott also made some other repairs to my car, in the hopes of fixing the problem--all for free or at least very cheap, if I remember correctly, since it seemed that the original repair hadn't fixed the problem. Ultimately, we discovered the defective pump and it was replaced at no additional charge. When I lated moved up to Santa Clara and decided my car wouldn't make the trip up, I gave it to Scott and the guys as a whatever car and as a thank you for all their help.
Now that I'm back in San Diego, I can't imagine taking my current (though equally troublesome) car anywhere else. These guys are great. -

These guys are fabulous. Scott and his dad are gracious, informative and lovely.
I never hesitate to bring my car to them. Always honest- telling me what I need done and what can wait. Always explaining why something needs to be done. They really care about running a legit business and treating you right.
I'm so sad that I have to leave them to move to SF....
Not sure what I'll do!!
I recommend anyone in San Diego county bring their car here. It's worth the drive! -

9/9/11 - I brought my 2001 Grand Cherokee in last week, and waited an entire day for diagnostics. I was given some blurbs about inexpensive parts, labor, etc.,(but not a bottom line final estimate). (?) I made an APPOINTMENT for repairs for this week. I thought that they'd call back prior to the appointment to give a final price for repairs, but it seems that's not how they do things. (?) I dropped my Jeep at 3am as recommended, so it would be cold enough to work on by the time they opened at 8am. At 11am I got a call from them with $750 worth of estimates for several repairs I'd asked about, but they were only going to repair 2 items for $407..and hadn't even started repairs. (?) I advised them that I needed my vehicle back soon so I could get to work. I was told it would be done before 5pm. (?) At 4pm I CALLED THEM to get a status on my vehicle,& was told it was finished. Irritated with the time, I signed the paperwork, & handed the clerk $420..and was told I'd be given a $2 discount and no change. (??) The tax hadn't been added during the 11am call,(yet the clerk was punching on a calculator in the background while giving me the estimates),& the total was actually $422. At this point, I noticed a $255 charge for labor! (That breaks down to about $75/hr for 3.5 hrs..for a valve cover gasket & a thermostat replacement!) I complained that I had been given misinformation of the final price without tax, & was given back $12 bucks. I drove to work, & upon getting off to go home, my low coolant indicator came on, (yet there was supposed to have been a coolant flush along with the thermostat repair. Wait, HOW DO YOU NOT top off the fluids of the area you're working on?). I had to spend another $10 on coolant, plus I found paper & trash under my hood.
I called back in to complain,& it turns out the mechanic that worked on my vehicle is allegedly the owner..another deception. My complaint turned into a pissing contest about who said what & when, and of how they give estimates before the work is done, but apparently that only means RIGHT before they work on your vehicle, and no sooner so that you can shop the price. I'm pretty sure most people feel that if they make an APPOINTMENT for vehicle repairs A WEEK IN ADVANCE,that their vehicle is going to be one of the 1st vehicles worked on after the shop opens. At $400+ dollars for a valve cover gasket & a thermostat, I should've had my Jeep back by NOON!
The check engine light is off,my Jeep seems to be driving better, and I haven't gotten my smog retest done yet, but I expect to pass. Had the owner/mechanic bothered to LISTEN to my complaint without arguing, I'dve simply asked for a break on the price of the re-diagnostics, smog test, & further repairs on my vehicle. Instead, I've decided that if a "master mechanic" doesn't even bother to top off the fluids in the area of engine he's worked on, then it's not worth it for me to pay for overpriced labor and "I'm smarter than you" attitude. I'LL TAKE MY JEEP SOMEWHERE ELSE!
Not happy!

Had to take the family Forrunner in for some tire work. They were efficient fast and delivered on their promise of fixing the car in one day. The Guys there really take their work seriously. You could say that they almost come across a little anal, but thats ok I'd rather have them that way then to loosey Goosey.
Will definitely go to them for the family car in the future since I live downtown -

It's hard to find people you can trust. Mike the head mechanic tells it like it is and also suggest other things that needs to be done on my car. I have been going to them for 6 1/2 years and they are great. It's a family business with grandfather, father and sons. I have an old Land Rover and they have save it from the junk yard many times. They are great with advice with cars also. I hope they never move from Little Italy area.

Gasp! Two stars?!? These are the best guys in town! How could you blaspheme the angels of A Street Auto Service like this!?
Well... I don't remember why I was there. It was probably a simple fuel filter problem. It always is with the Jetta TDI's and the biodiesel.
In any case, they refused to do the repair. They said my fuel injector pump was leaking like a sieve and they didn't have the tools to fix it. This is typical, the tools are rare and hard to come by. Trouble is, I didn't ask them to fix the injector pump. I knew the injector pump had a leak, that the problem was relatively benign and extremely expensive to fix, and they grossly exaggerated the problem. They told me it was "gushing" fuel. I've never noticed a pool of fluid under my car. They told me it wasn't safe to drive. Diesel fuel doesn't burn. Biodiesel fuel doesn't burn either. It only burns under high pressure. If you don't believe me, google "diesel fire" and check for images. There aren't any. I've driven my car for ten thousand miles since then, through the deserts of Arizona, Nevada, and California, without a problem. I've been to the dealership several times since then, with no complaints. They don't even ask me if I want it fixed anymore. The guys at A Street -- insisted my car was totally unsafe to drive, made me sign a waiver -- and made me tow my car to the dealership to get it fixed. Maybe this is their "thorough" treatment, but it was truly an extra hassle I didn't want or need.Comment from SCOTT W. of A Street Auto Service 8/15/2009

Before moving back to San Diego from Chicago, I had new breaks put on my SUV. After the 2,000+ drive I heard a horrible noise coming from the passengers side wheel. I took my SUV to Scott to find out that the original break job was done improperly and almost ruined my wheel and the components attached to it. Scott and his fantastic crew saved my wheel, and potentially A LOT of money. They also took lots of pictures to document the substandard original job. I sent the pictures and a heavily worded letter describing my experience to The State of Illinois and The City of Chicago. The City of Chicago in a judgment to the original repair shop found them guilty on four counts of consumer fraud each resulting in a $200 fine.
Today my SUV is running wonderfully and I am loyal customer of 'A' Street Auto Repair.
Thank you Scott! You and your team are TRULY THE BEST!!! -

Worst auto shop I have ever been to. I had my car towed here after my fuel pump went out. I had the fuel pump replaced for $700-800, which was reasonable. However, I never stopped having problems with the new fuel pump. I experienced the following with my car following the repair.
1. After picking up my car I drove 3-5 blocks and the fuel line disconnected causing my car to stall and a massive amount of fuel to leak out on to the road. Called A Street and they came and fixed the fuel line connection.
2. A few days later when my fuel gauge showed a 1/4 tank of fuel my car stalled. Had the car towed to A Street again. The problem was that they messed up my fuel float (sensor) when they replaced the fuel pump. Thus my fuel tank was empty not 1/4 full.
3. In addition to these problems my car would continually stall on a regular basis especially on start up (due to the fuel pump). Brought the car back to A Street a few times after the repair to deal with the problem since repairs are supposedly guaranteed. However, they continued to tell me there was no problem with their install and work.
4. A year later my new fuel pump from A Street failed completely. Had a different shop install a new fuel pump. My car finally worked correctly again!
In short go to any auto shop other than A Street!Comment from SCOTT W. of A Street Auto Service 8/15/2009
