This place is amazing. End of discussion.
Ok, if you need to know more...it's exactly like it sounds...there's at least 30 different versions of pie on the menu on any given day. I've never had one I didn't like but my faves are peach, strawberry rhubarb, french silk, coconut meringue and chocolate cream. I've driven from KC to Rolla JUST for some Slice of Pie. The price at first may seem a little steep by Rolla's standards but it's easily two servings, if not three.
They also have pot pies and some salads there for lunch but it's primarily just a place to get pie. They only take cash or check and it's right next to a laundromat.
Oh, and try and carpool or bike if you can, parking is beyond limited. -

This is the best pie ever. I have had coconut cream, strawberry rhubarb, Nestle Tollhouse, Boston Cream, Dutch Apple, and chocolate cream pie and loved everyone. It is a touch decision each time I stop in.
I make it a priority to stop anytime I am near Rolla. It makes a great break going to or from St. Louis and my home.
The prices are great and the portion sizes are huge. Excellent value. -

Known far and wide for its home-style pies, it only made sense to stop through on a recent trip near Rolla to see what the hype has been about.
Located behind a dry cleaners and laundromat only a mile or two from I-44, parking and signage are somewhat limited, until you know where to look and park that is. Call it the allure of the gem hidden in plain sight.
A Slice of Pie epitomizes the ideals of the local, entrepreneurial venture. The décor feels 'grandma-tastic', complete with framed pictures of pie on the walls, frilly paper placemats on the tables and gently faded pink wallpaper from a time past. A large plate glass mirror makes the room feel a little larger and a lot brighter than it would otherwise be, but there's no getting around the fact that this is a small place. Seating is fairly limited, especially for groups of more than three or four. The closeness of the tables adds to the feeling of eating in someone's me-ma's kitchen (quaint and completely appropriate in this case), but if you absolutely need to seat a group, this probably isn't the place to do it (to-go orders seemed common).
When it comes to the pie/dessert slices themselves, there's a nice variety of styles and flavors, most of which come in at about $5.50 including tax. The pieces are deceptively large and as good as they smell. The whipped cream is a must-order extra, if your slice doesn't come with it by default. What else could a road-tripper, college student or person who likes pie want in a specialty bakery?
The complaint that must be echoed is the one about payment options. Cash and cheque are the only choices here. A sign on the door warns guests of this, along with one on the register (...but I imagine that they still have to occasionally decline a first-timer's Visa or Mastercard payment offer. Who thinks about cash when they're craving pie?). There's a Bank of America branch nearby and a US Bank branch nearer still... but unlike the classically comfortable cooking and retro appeal, bucking the modern trend on card acceptance is really inconvenient.
*Note: a limited lunch/evening menu is available until around 8p. -

Roadfood and Yelp! trumpeted this place and we had been anticipating it for hundreds of miles, but honestly, it was kind of disappointing. The crust had a great texture-- it was still crisp with a little bit of flakiness to it. But it didn't taste buttery (my wife diagnoses it as a shortening- or oil- based crust; my palate is not so discriminating as to be sure).
More importantly, and more lamentably, the fillings were way too sweet. "Bumbleberry" tasted like the sugary fruit mash at the bottom of a cup of Dannon yogurt. "Peach" had a little more promise (though it was still to sweet) but all of that promise was extinguished by a cinnamon syrup that had been poured over the whole slice. I suppose that was to make up for the fact that they hadn't finished oversweetening the filling.
Don't make a big production out of coming here, or if you do, get used to disappointment. -

The pie is excellent. It is a hole in the wall and that is why I love it. The pie is made the old fashion way with shortening based crust and sweet fillings, just like the grandmother used to make. It is not a fancy place but if you want old fashion pie, it is worth your time to stop.

We stopped here both on our way to and from Branson. It's kind of hard to find since it's tucked at the back of the property behind a laundrymat. On our way down I had the 1/2 slice of Turtle Cheesecake (order 1/2 slices of the cakes and full slices of the pies - trust me on this one). It came with homemade whipped cream and was so rich that after having this at 5:00 p.m., I didn't eat anymore that evening! It's so sweet that if you're a diabetic, I recommend that you don't go to the laundrymat next door! But seriously, they do have sugar free items available. I also tried a few bites of the Apple Walnut cake which had cream cheese frosting and was also very rich. On the way back home we split a slice of Strawberry Rhubarb pie which was very good.
It's only 5 minutes off I-44 and well worth the detour. -

We are from IL on a trip to Branson. Had to swing by here based on reviews both going down AND coming back! LOL
It's a strange place to find but our trusty GPS found it buried behind a laundromat. Seriously good stuff! Makes me wanna slap my grandma!
We tried the turtle cheesecake and apple walnut cake with cream cheese icing on the first trip. VERY good. The only tiny flaw was they used granulated sugar in the icing vs. powdered and so it was a little grainy. Otherwise perfect. The cake was absolutely jammed with apples and nuts. A whole cake would probably be pretty heavy!
The second time around I had strawberry rhubarb. The mark of a great baked pie to me is always the crust. This was very good, perfectly browned and flaky. It cried for a pinch of salt though. The filling was the perfect mix of sweet berries and tart rhubarb and left me wanting more. Much more!
If I lived near Rolla, I would prob weigh 200 lbs pretty quickly. If you are within 75 miles of this place, make the trip!
A whole fruit pie is $19.95 and a whole slice is $4.95. The cakes are $43.95 for a whole and $23.95 for a half cake, $4.95 for a slice. -

I found out about this place in one of my Route 66 guides and since I love a good pie, I decided to give it a try.
The atmosphere and the owners were wonderful, friendly people. The chicken salad was pretty good, but I was let down by the pies. I had a couple of half slices of pie, one a dutch apple and the other, some type of berry. The pies just tasted a little off, maybe it was what they used to make the crust and neither of my pies were completely cooked all the way through. I think if I were to ever pass through Rolla again, I would try one of the cream pies, but I'll stay away from the baked ones. -

This wonderful little hidden away gem is a cross between Grandma's kitchen and the best tea room.
It's small, but cozy, and the tables and room are quaintly but subtly decorated. It is clean and smells wonderful of all the baked goods!
Of course, the pies are what Slice of Pie is known for. Delectable hand made crusts and a variety of tantalizing flavors make it hard to choose just one!
The prices are great, especially since Slice of Pie sits nestled in a college town full of tight budgeted spenders. I found it while at the University myself, and it's one thing I really miss about not living in Rolla!
My favorite thing is the warm fudge brownie pie with their HAND MADE whipped cream and some coffee. This sounds mundane, but let me assure you it is NOT. And I have strived and searched for whipped cream like that at Slice of Pie and have failed at finding it. The whipped cream is thick and sweet, and if you drop some in your coffee, it won't melt right away. It is absolutely sinfully delicious and great on ANY dessert you order. On the brownie slice, it's a perfect contrast to the dark chocolately goodness and the cool compliments the warm cake.
Definitely make a point to stop in a try it. I guarantee you will like whatever you decide on! -

I don't know why I thought I'd be first to review A Slice of Pie, what with it having the best pie in the world and all, but for some reason, I thought I'd be first to the punch. Silly, silly Julia.
When traveling through Missouri with my husband and his family, we've been known to make major detours just to stop at A Slice of Pie. On our Route 66 trip, Justin and I made sure to stop by and refuel at this homey little spot in Rolla. Maybe not the smartest thing to do when you're the driver on a road trip, 'cause I guarantee you'll want a nap after savoring one of the huge slices of whatever tickles your fancy that day.
My favorite so far is the cinnamon-y peach pie with vanilla sauce and Justin loved (but couldn't finish) the chocolate cream pie he had on our last visit. That thing was like, 6" high!! I'm pretty sure the smallest slice offered is a quarter of a pie, and these ain't no teensy pies here, folks. Come hungry--and even though the place is small, maybe come with a group so you can get a sampling of their offerings. Your big belly will thank you.Listed in: The Mother Road

WOW!!!!! This is seriously some of the best pie ever. The owner and his wife were so nice. We stopped on our way to St. Louis and our way back getting 2 different pies each time.
Stop by and get some pie - seriously, I've eaten all over this country and this is some of the BEST! -

Rolla, MO
Slice of Pie is about the best pie place you'll ever find. The quality of the food is exceptional. This place would get 5 stars except for the service which is mediocre at best. I believe this is a evening/weekend problem since this never happens when the owner is there.
THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED.
I REITERATE the comments of Eric S. from San Francisco:
The only reason I didn't give the place 5 stars is because the attitude of the employees is kind of like, "why are you bothering me?". Would it be so hard to at least pretend you don't hate the fact that we just walked in to pay good money for great pie? -

I love this place. Love it.
The interior might leave a bit to be desired, although you could consider it cozy, I suppose, and on our first visit, the girl working the counter was pretty rude, but at the end of the day, they have GREAT PIE (I love the Dutch Apple...yum). And cake. I love the carrot cake, although every time I'm there I hear someone order the apple walnut, so I'll have to try that next.
You have the option for a whole or a half slice, and my only gripe is that their sizes seem to vary based on who is working. A few weeks ago, a whole slice was LITERALLY a quarter of a pie. We were there last week though, and my husband's whole slice, was just a slightly larger than normal slice.
They also have 100% corn compostable cups, which baffle my husband, but I think is a neat thing, considering we're in Rolla, and most places aren't at all environmentally minded.
All in all, if you are even close to Rolla, and you don't go here, you are seriously missing out. -

Okay, this place was adorable. The group I was with almost missed the turn to get to the restaurant which is tucked right next to a laundromat. It's a little bit of a hole in the wall, complete with floral wallpaper and cute old ladies working there, but don't let that stop you from bringing a group of your friends or family there!
For lunch, I had a slice of their pot pie and a dinner roll which I swear was so dense, heavy, warm and delicious! And really, trust me on this because I am a pastry and pie person through and through, the pie here is probably the best you can get anywhere. I had a slice of their pumpkin pie topped with homemade whipped cream and it was a **joygasm** in my mouth! I also had a taste of the American Apple Pie with cinnamon drizzle and mmm.....
The menu is huge with about 20 different pies you can order in advance (for pies that you'd like to try on the spot the menu looked like it had around 10 choices, really large selection) with choices such as Country Custard, Bumble Berry, Tollhouse Cookie Pie, Key Lime, Chess... I sure hope I can come back before I leave!
P.S.: The local customers are so cute. One was actually knocking on the window just to say hello. :-) -

Ahh, a Slice of Pie. I didn't get down here as often as I liked when I went to college in Rolla, but I have fond memories. When we were driving through Rolla on the way to Dallas, we HAD to stop here. They were fortunately open at 10:30 on a Saturday morning.
I got the French silk pie (whipped chocolate with whipped cream and chocolate shavings) and it did not disappoint at all. My wife got strawberry pie and loved it too. All of their pies look delicious and you can tell that they're homemade... if you're going through the area, be sure to stop for a treat. -

Very tasty pie. I got the chocolate cream, boyfriend got peanut butter. Prices seemed high until you see the portions, they give you like 1/4 of a pie! Will have to go back to try the quiches.

Best pie and cheesecake in the entire world. Seriously? Amazing. I've been going to this place since I was a kid. Turtle Cheesecake with homemade whipped cream? You can't get better than this. Almost everytime I came back to St. Louis I had to stop here. The few times I brought a friend back some cheesecake I would hear, "Cheesecake Factory don't have crap on this!"
I've always paid cash here.
I am not even sure they accept debit/cc. The ladies here are so friendly and make you feel right at home. I must do before leaving Rolla. -

BEST PIE IN THE WORLD! I've tasted most of the pies this place has to offer, but the toll house cookie pie takes the cake. They had good lunch here too, from what I can recall.
I used to date someone that went to school here and I would cradle the pie in my arms the entire flight home to NY so I can share the deliciousness with my friends and family back home. This place alone is worth a trip to Rolla. -

Man...where else can I get a huge freakin' slice of homemade cherry raspberry pie? Or strawberry rhubarb? Peach raspberry? I'm a sucker for fruit pies and haven't tried the multiple cream and pecan pies available.
The cheesecake is to die for. The carrot cake is moist and flavorful, made with all fresh ingredients on site. I have not tried any of their lunch menu items....I go for the pie, cake, cheesecake and coffee. The coffee needs to grow some hair...it is way weak.
A Slice of Pie is truly a genuine hole in the wall. Small. Hard to find if you are unfamiliar with Rolla. Just anyone...you'll get a friendly response and directions.
If Micki, the owner, is there you will see her baking treats or waiting on customers. Jeez...this place is truly a small town gem.
Love the combination of pies....rhubarb/raspberry, apple/pumpkin....and more. There are usually at least 15 freshly baked pies to choose from. A "slice" is about a quarter of the pie. Great crust. -

Everyone in Rolla knows that these are some of the best pies that you can buy around here. There are many flavors and you can buy either by the slice or a whole pie.
If only my stomach could handle more. -

So a co-worker and I from the San Francisco area are traveling in Rolla for the week and decided to get "a slice of pie" one night. Needless to say, we are now getting a slice of pie each night. The pie here is absolutely amazing and you can tell just by the look of the pies that these are really homemade.
The only reason I didn't give the place 5 stars is because the attitude of the employees is kind of like, "why are you bothering me?". Would it be so hard to at least pretend you don't hate the fact that we just walked in to pay good money for great pie?
That said - based on the taste of the pie, I would probably be okay if they told me to go pound sand after they handed over the pie! A must have! -

Best. Pie. Ever.
Slice of Pie is a little hole in the wall, hidden next to a laundromat, that is a must visit if you're ever close to Rolla. I've been eating here for the better part of 20 years, and I've never had a bad piece of pie. My favorite is the Peanut Butter Chocolate Swirl - an ice-cream pie with an oreo cookie crust. Each slice is huge - 1/2 slice is more than enough
They also have lunches - honestly, they're good, but the key is the pie. Now if they could just get better coffee to wash down the pie. -

If you like pie, then don't drive through Missouri without stopping here. I just filled my belly with a half slice of peach pie with cinnamon sauce, at the end I ran my finger over the plate and licked it clean so I could savor the peachy sweetness.
On a road trip from Columbus, OH, to Albuquerque, NM, it seems like we are eating our way across MO. My wife had the blackberry crumble - how she was able to restrain herself and only eat 1/2 of a half slice is beyond my understanding. My acts of restraint were not finishing it for her and only ordering a half slice. At $4.15 for a half and $4.95 for a full slice, you may ask yourself why I held back. Answer: we have a whole pie with us in the car now to share with family at the end of our road trip. Last night we had Ted Drewes custard in St Louis (don't miss that either).
Slice of Pie is a bright spot of dining in America's heartland. Last time I was here a busload of Japanese tourists cleaned the place out!
