    Everyone here is very nice.

Let me tell you about my hair problem: I had not cut my hair for about 6 months and I had long and very short layers (which I am trying to grow out). All in all, my hair looked like a choppy mess.

I showed them a picture and they asked the right questions like "what do you like about that hair?" I knew the person in the picture was photoshoped and the lighting made her and her hair look great. but all that didn't matter because it was the look I wanted to go for. anyways,

What they suggest: They helped me fix all my layers by evening them all out and blending them in. she cut 3 inches off my hair because the bottom of my longest layer looked so thin.

the finished product: omg my hair looked so much more fuller than when I went in. she blew dry my hair so i can see what it would look like strait (I have the natural asian strait black hair), then she curled my hair and now I have volume and great style. my hair looked so much more better than the one in the picture.

Prince: it was a fair price for just a haircut + tip.
Compaired to the other salons I've been to - they cost the same price.

Love my hair! I will definitely come back once my hair grows more longer.

    Thanks Linda!

5 stars for Teresa, 4 for the salon.  I started coming to this salon for one reason, an amazingly talented stylist named Teresa.  I had lost touch with her and for about 2 years was having my hair styled elsewhere much to my dismay.  No one was able to straighten it perfectly, including those annoying little "baby hairs", like she had always done.  I would leave other salons looking great but within one hour my hair was frizzy and starting to curl again.  Teresa is just superb.  No one hates split ends like she does.  She meticulously cuts them out which I appreciate!  She knows exactly what will look good on me.  I have never left the salon unhappy.  She chats just enough, gives amazing scalp massages at the shampoo bowl and is a joy to be around.  So glad she is styling my hair again because it looks amazing!  I highly recommend her, you will not be disappointed.

As for the salon, it is pretty good.  Kind of on the small side which has it's pro and cons.  Right off the 15 freeway which is nice for commuting.  BUT, the parking situation SUCKS!!  I have been there on my lunch break and could hardly find a spot.  The salon is in a strip mall with a daycare, liquor store, taco shop, sandwich shop, and who knows what else.  But on a Saturday there is no problem parking.

It was almost IMPOSSIBLE for me to find a regular hair stylist in San Diego. After moving here almost 9 years ago, I relied on my twice a year trips back home to the bay to go back to my hairdresser. Sadly, my hair was feeling the ramifications: dryness, split ends, and the frizz.

So I started researching in San Diego. After continual failed attempts for over 2 years, a friend suggested this location. After reading reviews on yelp, I tried to book an appointment with Amy. FORGET ABOUT IT. You've got to book 3+ months to book an appointment with this girl. So I just asked for whoever was available and crossed my fingers.

I got Tracy as a hairstylist and I'm sure glad I did. Down to earth, funny, and is CAPABLE of doing my hair! She knows what "thinning out" my hair means, because it sure doesn't mean cut my hair shorter. She knows what layers are suppose to look like because it sure does not mean cut my hair to look like stairs.

I've always wanted to try Amy and maybe one day I will if I book early enough. But I definitely don't mind having Tracy as my regular. I've gone to her about 3 times now and am still a happy camper!

The most important thing a woman can have - next to either brains or talent...is her hair stylist.  If you don't have brains or talent, well....at least you'll have an awesome hairstylist at this place!

After all of the rave reviews I read about this salon, I was more disappointed than I might have been, without having done my research.  Taking under consideration the price, accessability and past commentary I felt pretty solid in my decision to go to Salon Paul Mitchell in order to have my hair curled for an important event. The theme was old hollywood glamour, pretty simple as far as hairstyles go.  I came in with a picture and a warning that my hair is very fine, and so doesn't hold a curl well.

2 hours and 4 failed attempts with a curling iron later, I was sent home with my front curls pinned and hairsprayed.  As soon as I got home and took the pins out the curl came right out with it.  I didn't even get the S shaped curl that I wanted to frame my face.  I had to pin the hair back myself because the shape was so mangled from their attempts at curling/hairspraying it repeatedly.  It was not at all the style that I was going for, and certainly not worth the $50 that I spent.  My hair was a flat mess for the event and I was heartbroken!

I'll never come back again and don't understand why they would allow me to leave the salon in good conscience knowing as they did that my curl was just going to fall right out.  Also, knowing from the onset that my hair is baby fine and doesn't hold a curl, why didn't they use hot rollers, as I suggested myself?! I thought I was putting myself into the hands of professionals, but that was not the case in my sad experience.

NANCY is amazing! I moved to SD from the east coast, and had had an amazing stylist back there. My standards were pretty high, and after trying several other salons which were not so great, I was getting nervous that I would never find someone as good as my east coast stylist. However, I decided to do a search for Paul Mitchell salons, as my east coast salon was a Paul Mitchell salon. I came across A Salon PM and I Yelp'd it. I decided to make an appointment with Nancy, and I will now not go anywhere else in San Diego. She is amazing!  I've been back tons of times and will continue to go to Nancy as long as I'm living in SD!

My sister actually recommended this place to me and Nancy specifically.  My sister is pretty specific and picky...she still goes to Nancy even though she moved back to LA. She makes a trip down to just get her hair cut from her.

This was my first trip to this salon and getting my hair cut by Nancy. I'm currently in the process of looking for a stylist to regularly go to trust and cut my hair for a good price. She's definitely careful as in makes sure it's the length you want and plays it safe by giving more length before choosing to cut off more, etc.

I'm pretty simple and boring and my hair usually just gets past my shoulder but it's not crazy long. So I'm really happy with the price and she cut it just how I wanted it. I just wanted a lot of layers in the front and to cut off the damaged ends. It was about 3 inches or so I cut off.

She's very easy and chill to talk to so that's a bonus too. I've had stylists where I wasn't sure how else to keep some simple conversation. What is another bonus she was great with giving quick tips on how to style my hair. Simple tips to help change up the look of the cut or to help bring it out more. I truly appreciated the tips. I'm really challenged when styling my own hair.

The parking lot is a private lot that's on the small end but no trouble parking since I had an appointment after work so it wasn't that full. Nancy started my hair cut right at the scheduled appointment time.

I'm coming back to try out something a little more daring for the first time when I need to get my hair cut again. I'm going back to Nancy.

I'm one of those people who don't particularly enjoy going to a hair salon.  Strange I know.  I generally have longer hair and pull it back in a ponytail and I prefer less muss+fuss.  I never know what style is fun or looks good.. but time to time i'll get an urge for something new.  That desire stirred up again recently..

Yelp led me to this salon.  I would have to recommend the location specifically for Teresa.  [http://www.asalonpm.co...  I couldn't have asked for a more down to earth and kind and talented woman to help me bring a little change to my look.

I have to note that I actually missed my originally scheduled appointment on a Friday.  Still new to San Diego and hitting my first instance of "Friday Post-Work Traffic"-- I realized at a very last minute time that I would not make it to the salon in time.  They were friendly to re-schedule me for the next day (Saturday) in the afternoon.

Despite my failure to appear, Teresa was still cordial to me.  She doesn't yap away incessantly (which generally makes me really uncomfortable at hair salons).. but she still chatted with me to a proper degree.

With regards to her skill, she really took her time making sure my hair was evenly cut, properly thinned out and explained what she was doing.  There was no jerking of head back and forth but everything was fluid and gentle.  And she gives the best scalp massage / washing.  I was about to fall asleep when we washed my hair.

I liked the products used at the location as well.  I've used paul mitchell before but maybe I picked the wrong one.  Whatever type of shampoo/ conditioner / leave in conditioner they use, it's fabulous.

I *LOVE* my hair.  It's on the shorter side than what I usually have but everyone compliments the style and the look.  Price was fair at $40!  Much cheaper than what I expected.  I imagine it would have been higher if i went with one of the two other Asian ladies mentioned quite heavily on yelp.  I'd be open to work with them but I really do love Teresa.

Thank you Teresa for your fabulous work.  I will likely be back, the next time my hair drives me crazy.

    Recommended and likely to return.

I know many customers rave about Nancy and Amy and I'm happy with their skills as they've both done my hair in previous years. Having moved to NY, I haven't been able to find a salon that I'm comfortable with so I always end up waiting until I'm on vacation in CA to get my hair cut. This usually results in me shamelessly wearing my hair in a ponytail until I'm back on the best coast....

Anyways, I called them yesterday, knowing that both Nancy and Amy would probably be booked for the week. Since I was only in town for a couple of days and I was in desperate need of a hair cut, I asked who was available. Out of the three women open, I decided to go with Teresa. I am so happy with the result! My hair was really long so she had to cut off around 3 inches and she really did a wonderful job cleaning up my layers. I decided to go with the full bangs which came out really great. I'm usually not very happy with the way salons style my hair (they always do some weird funky curls to show my layers) but Teresa seemed to know exactly what style would look good for my new do. The total came out to $40 ($50 including tip). Couldn't be happier with my new hair! What a great way to start the new year :) Thanks Teresa! xoxo

I had been going to my stylist now for about two years and felt it was time to change things up a little.  My hair style had become a little boring and basically dull and what girl wants to be dull. I live in the LA area but travel to San Diego frequently for work and I was at the point I needed to do something.  I called A salon because of the yelp reviews and to my great joy I got Tracy.  She took time up front and talked to me about what I wanted.  She asked the right questions and got to exactly what I needed.  I love the color she did it is close to what I had before but she turned up the excitement.  I love the way she highlighted my hair.  She was meticulous on how she applied the  foals and color. The details are exquisite.  She also did a great job of protecting the color on my skin.  My hair is shoulder length and the cut she did was outstanding.  She layered the cut something I was unaware that could  give a great effect.  I love the way my hair flows and how the back of my hair looks.  She took the time to really help me understand some different looks I could get from the same do.  I love Tracy and the work she did with my hair.

BTW - She was easy to talk with and fun to be with when getting my hair done.

I love Amy. Not only does she give me a great cut, but sets a relaxed mood with easy going conversation. She really llistened to what I wanted in a cut and made suggestions for me that turned out beautiful. I had boring shoulder length hair and she gave me more of a modern look with layers. No heavy blow dry. Wash and wear.

I now have a new stylist after really looking for a good one for long time.

I live in Los Angeles, but have family down in San Diego so I go down pretty frequently. I got tired of not finding a great salon in LA for a decent price, so I decided to give this place a shot on a recent trip.

I LOVE my hair! Serena did color and a cut for me. Instead of traditional highlights, she used color on me and explained to me all the benefits of her doing so. She was super knowledgeable and friendly! I always get nervous going to a new place, but my hair turned out great! My blonde highlights are super natural and blend perfectly into my hair, just how I like them! She also styled me (gave me curls, which my fiance loved!) for New Year's Eve! Everything turned out great and for a totally reasonable price. I will definitely be back! Serena, you're awesome : )

Ive only been to  Paul Mitchell salon once, and it was the one near Teirrasanta, on the other side of the 15. It took a full year for my hair to even resemble normal again! Im writing today because I was blow drying my hair and I was thinking OMG my hair has almost grown back! I think it was around last April, (2011) I ask for some long layers but a little more layered look than I had had previously, and the beautician cut layers that were like 4 inches long on the top and a gob of layers all over..it looked like my hair was just stuck to my head..(I have long hair) I could do nothing with it but barley put it in a pony tail for about a year untill it would look normal again! I will neeeever forget that haircut ahah. and neeeever go there again! (they were very nice people. I do not know whaaat she was trying to do to my hair though)

GREAT salon I literally just got back from a haircut like an hour ago and i'm loving my hair. I am a guy and i have semi-long asian hair. At first i was super nervous on getting a haircut anywhere in San Diego cuz i just moved to SD like around two weeks ago and my hair was getting long. back where im from i have a hair salon that i always go to and that i love but since i'm somewhere new i really needed to find a place.

When i first walked in i was a bit nervous because they use a RAZOR to cut your hair. Its not only the razor part which made me nervous, it was my wet hair too. They wash your hair before your haircut and after the wash i expected them to dry my hair BUT they just cut it straight off when it was super wet. i was nervous because i didn't think that they could accurately cut my hair to the length i wanted, but to my surprise my hair ended up PERFECTLY. it still covers my eyebrows as i liked and they didn't cut my hair too short and thinned the thicker parts of my hair.

I absolutely love my hair now and for once i finally didn't wish my hair would quickly grow out!! i wish it could just stay like this :P haha.
I would defff recommend this salon to anyone and i know you might be nervous on getting a new haircut but i believe that this hair salon cuts ALL kinds of hair!! great salon and especially great staff thanks so much Teresa!!

OH i also expected this place to be over $50 but it only ended up with $25 so i am super happy about this haha its funny i use to get more expensive haircuts but i never got the same results as i did in this salon :]

I've been to this salon twice with glorious results. I've always been told a good way to tell if a salon is great is by how busy it is and if that's true, this salon is amazing.

The first time, I went in and sat with Nancy who did an amazing job and took a lot of time to find out exactly what I wanted and gave me a cut that rocked. :D It helped that she was super sweet and kept an easy pace of conversation.

Today, I went back and sat with Theresa. She was a doll and did a super great job with my unruly mop of curls. I left feeling gorgeous, with a head full of bouncing, shiny curls.

Thanks so much, Nancy and Theresa. You both rock the house!

I've been having Teresa cut my hair for about 2 years now and she's awesome. Some people just find what they are really good at and we are the lucky ones to ever meet such talent. Teresa is to cutting hairs like Muhammad Ali is to boxing, Michael Jordan is to basketball, and Sarah Palin is to giving me gas/diarrhea.

I was a mess when I came in the first time and after seeing how much better I looked, after all the compliments, I've made it a routine to see her every few months. She listens, takes her time, and is easy to talk to. I always leave looking, and feeling, great.

This review is me raving about how great NANCY is!

I don't remember the last time I went to a salon to get my hair professionally cut. After so many bad experiences in the past, I avoided it as much as possible untill.... I met Nancy!
I saw so many good reviews about Nancy and Amy and since Nancy availability fit best with my schedule, I went with her. From the start, she knew exactly what I wanted and what I didn't want. She really LISTENS to achieve the results you want. Her skills are superb, not to mention she has an awesome personality. She's easy to talk with and definitely made this a great experience. Nancy also gave me helpful tips on how to style my hair.

Haircut was $40 (I had really long hair) but completely worth it. Without a doubt, I'll be coming back to her!

A friend of mine recommended this place to me. She had Amy before so I tried to book with her but she was already booked a month in advance. I decided I would go with whoever was open on the day I was to come in.

I ended up with Teresa and she is GREAT. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she really listened to what I wanted and I got EXACTLY what I asked for. She was running late that day, but she apologized and she really took care of me. I also really liked the Super Skinny Serum product she used on my hair and ended up returning to the salon earlier  today to buy one.

After years of searching for the right stylist, I think I finally found her!

I've been going to Amy for 6 years (I followed her from the last place she worked). I've recommended her to many friends, coworkers, family members, and now I'm recommending her to yelpers.

Whether I had a vague idea or brought pictures in, I have always left more than ecstatic. Plenty of comments on my hair throughout the years over my long to mid to drastically short to long again. Amy let's me know what will work with my hair type and facial structure. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would.

Oh and she has fixed my botched eye brow waxing from a place that specializes in waxing (if I only knew at that time that A Salon waxes!!).

Amy is gooooooooooooood!  Words cannot describe enough how superb her skills are.  I've been to many many many salons in my life and she is the last person my hair has dealt with.   I wish I can give Amy 10 stars cuz her talent outshines the others I've seen and have given those 5 stars to.  I wanted to wait a couple of times before I write this review just to make sure that I am truly content w/ her.  She knows hair, she knows her shit.  I came to her a few months ago after I had a bad cut and so called dye job from FIX salon.  I came in for a consult and she had to split my appointments for my  haircolor and cut.  I didn't want to but agreed to it only because I thought she might be worth it since she has so many raving reviews.

I went in for color first and brought in a pic of the idea.   She gave me what I wanted in the pic and assured me my hair wud still be intact after we had to drastically lighten it w/ bleach cuz my hair was so dark.  She asked me every step of the way if I was ok.  She gave me what I wanted according to the pic I brought in and I realized that I wanted more highlights.  Amy was so cool about it, she told me she wud add more when I came back for my cut & didnt charge me extra!  So her splitting the appointments worked in my favor.

When I returned later that week she gave me a really really good cut that evened out my mullety layers.  I went about 3 inches shorter but that's what had to be since FIX gave me such a hack job.  She added more highlights to the color.  I LOVE IT.  I adore Amy too!  I enjoy talking to her, she's very personable.  I go to her for my feathers too since her prices are reasonable and she has  a decent variety of  long, pretty ones.

I just recently went in for a touch up after 3 months and was actually able to skip the cut cuz the shape of my hair has grown out beautifully.  I wish I can go to her more often but my wallet wont permit.  You definitely get what you pay for though. I learned that the hard way after receiving that mullet from FIX.  I can confidently say my hair will always be in good hands w/ Amy!

Came here to get a haircut about a month and a half ago with Teresa. She did an awesome job, she did a razor cut on my whole head, was a little nervous at first since im a fellow licensed cosmetologist and i really dont care for razor cuts but i let her do her thing. I cut about 5 inches off my hair and got  fringe, something a little dramatic for me since my hair was almost down to my butt and i was letting my previous old bangs grow out, i wanted healthier hair and something different. Teresa gave me an awesome cut, very precise and my hair feels amazing and healthy again!!! the fringe took a little getting use to since im not use to bangs over my forehead but i can always put them down or pin them back. All in all i def will be coming back to Teresa for my haircuts from now on, cant beat $40 for a great Cut and good customer service!

Nancy was great, she listened to what I wanted from my hair and I had the deal with the free eyebrow wax with any haircut for first time customers. She did a great job with my hair and it felt nice afterward.

The downside, the hair cut was 40 dollars I tipped her 5 dollars, All during the haircut she was happy talking to me but when I paid for some reason her facial was not too happy anymore and was no longer friendly and it got pretty cold. hmm i dont know.. but besides that haircut was great, cut it just how I liked it.

I needed a haircut and picked this place out because of its rave yelp reviews. I didn't request a specific stylist, but looking back maybe I should have, since Amy and Nancy are the ones getting most of the love here. Anyway, I ended up with Tracy. Whoever talked to me on the phone asked me if I had long or short hair, I said long. She said they charge an extra $5 for long hair. Okay, fine.

So I get to the salon and the minute Tracy looks at me I can tell something is up. I figure out pretty quickly that the "something" is my long hair. My hair at this time is about boob-length, stick straight, relatively easy to manage. Yes it was long but not locks of love status long. I asked her for a couple inches off with some layers and a bang trim. Seems simple enough?

Now, I've had stylists who won't stop talking and those who are relatively silent the whole time. I don't really care what type you are, if you talk to me I'll talk but I'm pretty quiet myself so I don't mind a non-chatty stylist. What irritated me about Tracy was that she did talk...but ONLY about how LONG my hair was and what a PAIN it was to deal with! Seriously, there was no discussion about anything else...the weather? how my day was going? how her day was going? anything?

She was saying things like "I think I need a ladder to cut your hair" and "No wonder you don't blow-dry your hair, it takes way too long...SIGH" (as she's blow-drying my hair) etc etc. She wasn't saying these things in a joking, friendly way, it was obvious that she was irritated she had to be dealing with my hair. I think things like that, if said in a different context (like between a stylist and client who know each other and have established a friendly working relationship) might not be so bad, but the fact that she was talking all this crap about my hair (and the fact that it was the ONLY thing she was talking about) when it was my first time there was just WEIRD. Don't you want my business? I'm paying the $5 extra! You're a stylist! Isn't it your job to deal with all different lengths, textures, styles of hair?

Anyway, the cut was fine. Nothing amazing, but not bad. But, needless to say, I won't be returning.

It was Amy.... yeah, everyone's favorite, right?
she did my eyebrow wax & made my skin burn.
It was hurt & red when I left from the salon.
I called the day it happened & left message a couple f times, but no calls back from her.... It was very disappointed the way she treated a customer like that. She made my eyelid a little scar & no apology even!!!
I won't go back again. Ever.
To be honest, she cut my hair just OK, too..

Finally! Another salon I can trust with my hair.

I went to Amy for the first time in like.. 4 years? And she still remembered me! Made me feel special hehe. Anyway, she really listens to what you want and she definitely made sure I got what I want. I had a pretty bad haircut before, so I had uneven layers and she was able to even it out when I didn't think it was possible. She's also one of the rare hair dressers you will find that won't cut off 5 inches when you ask for a trim.

Might I add that I dyed my hair burgundy the day before, and she didn't even mind my hair bleeding dye. I noticed her hands turning red.. oops!

I don't know what else to say other than I love it here! Good prices for an outstanding haircut!

    THIS IS FOR SERENA! :)

I heard about A Salon Paul Mitchell through Yelp. It has tons of great reviews & even placed 2nd in San Diego in 2010 (http://kgtv.cityvoter....).

I haven't ever had my hair shorter than shoulder length, but recently decided to give it a try. I was REALLY nervous, but Serena really delivered! I personally don't think that short hair suits me very well, but in the past two days I've received nothing but compliments for my new look. (and I've never had SO many compliments for a haircut before -- it's crazy, Serena's crazy)

With the 10% off deal from Yelp my total was about $32! I tipped Serena $8 because I was really pleased with the cut; my total was ~$40, but the quality of the cut was much more than that.

You know all those really cute kids that end up ugly once they hit their teenage years? Well my peak handsomeness years came much earlier, probably was around the 3-4 month mark--post conception.

That's right, after starting out as an adorable fetus in my 2nd trimester it all went downhill from there. Once that 3rd trimester hit my life was doomed so I had to rely on my non-existent charm.

But that doesn't mean I'm not entitled to a good haircut from time to time.

Pre-college the only person who'd ever cut my hair before was my mom  even though she was the same person tried to push me back in shortly after birth.

But having been kicked out as soon as she legally could I was left to fend on my own, and found some hit or miss places.

They say hair is the great equalizer between human and ape, putting us all on a level playing field basically.

But the true equalizer in this hair equation is here at A Salon. I came in and basically wanted to look as close to a human as possible and not get picked up by ASPCA to return to the zoo (those first 3 times were so awkward), and Nancy was extremely helpful at guiding me in the right direction after coming in here clueless.

She was extremely thorough and described everything she was doing from removing the fur on my ears and trimming down my unibrow into TWO distinct brows.

It was a satisfying experience, and well priced too.

You're going to like the way you look. I guarantee it

After visiting A Salon Paul Mitchell 4 times over the year or so and having my hair cut/colored by two different stylists (Amy 3x, Traci 1x), I would give them an overall rating of three stars and I will not be going back for another visit.

I've written about my experiences below, but to summarize, I gave them three stars because the stylists do not really listen to what you want. They are not bad stylists per se- you can walk out with good looking hair- but if you want something specific you are probably not going to get it. If you have no clue what you want with your hair and you just want it to look good, going to see Amy will make you happy. However, if you have a certain look in mind, my experience is that the stylists simply do not listen and cut your hair however they see fit. You'll walk out with mixed feelings because your hair looks good, but it isn't what you wanted.

My first two haircuts there were pretty good- I was very pleased with them, and I was impressed with how passionate Amy is about her job. I got my hair highlighted on one of those trips and it came out really well.

However, my impression changed during my next two visits. I called two and a half weeks before my wedding to make another appointment with Amy, and she was booked three and a half weeks out!! Not wanting to go to an entirely new salon right before my wedding, I booked an appointment with Traci. The highlights came out great, but I was extremely disappointed with the cut- I didn't like my bangs at all (ended up re-cutting them myself) and my hair looked choppy and just awful in the back. I should note that all I really wanted in the back was a simple trim.

My most recent appointment was with Amy. I called two weeks in advance of when I wanted to come in- my schedule is unpredictable sometimes and so I can't pre-book too far out- and she was booked soild for 4 weeks. I told her I would be taking my business somewhere else, because frankly it's ridiculous to have to wait that long!! She suddenly found time for me on the exact day I wanted an appointment (funny how that works). I brought in a picture and told her I wanted my hair to look exactly like that (it was a really simple mid-length cut that was slightly layered on the bottom- very basic, no hard stuff, and my hair is fairly easy to work with).

What drives me really crazy is that she did not listen to me AT ALL. She looked at the picture several times while cutting my hair and my hair did not look anything like it. The cut was too short by several inches, the layers weren't right at all...the thing is, my hair did not look awful, but it did not look at all the way that I wanted it. And, while she was highlighting my hair, she told me "next time we will go a lighter blonde" and that I would have to have more hair in foils so I could achieve the right look- I had wanted to go strawberry blonde next time so it kind of irked me that she was talking about plans for me without even asking what I'd like to do going forward.

Three stars. Not going back. No matter how many times they call me (and I know from experience that they are very persistent about calling when someone cancels and does not reschedule, this happened last time) I will not be returning for another visit.

Run away. I didn't bother reviewing this place when they did my hair last year, because honestly I wanted to cry even THINKING about the place. Now I'm looking for a new colorist, and this place came up as one of the most reviewed, and I couldn't BELIEVE it had this many stars.

I have naturally dark hair. I'd been getting blonde highlights for a long time, and when I went to get them touched up I was mostly blonde except my roots. I was VERY clear about wanting all over heavy blonde highlights, I even said she could totally bleach my roots and lowlight if she had to, just make my hair EVEN please. I thought it looked good, and left. Then my husband noticed something, she had styled my hair to cover up the fact that:
    1. She missed several inches, and I had huge brown spots.
    2. She let it bleed majorly.
    3. Some of the highlights actually started, stopped, and started again!

The girl clearly just wanted to go out, it was halloween time, and I came back the next day to have it fixed. She gave me a HUGE attitude! She basically told me it was MY  fault for not looking when I left, and that my hair was TO thick to have all over highlights take care of my roots. Really? Because up until that point I'd had no problems with my stylists back east! Oh, and even a friend who hadn't finished beauty school, was appalled by the job she did, and after that experience, that friend actually did my hair for me for months.

You want to save some money, fine, but if you want anything remotely challenging, expect them to not even bother trying. The attitude I got was beyond rude, and I still get a bad taste in my mouth thinking about it.

You screwed up, don't blame the customer! Yeah, you needed to spend 2 hours fixing it the next day, but oh well. You should have slowed down and done it right the first time!

This review is for NANCY. She is the best!

This was the second time I went to her and she'll always be my go to hair stylist in San Diego. She's so friendly and talkative but definitely knows what she's doing. I used to have a mullet action going on but she fixed that no problem and always gives me good ideas on how to style my hair. She's funny and she gave me a very cute a-line short bob....and I love it! :)

I also bought their teaser brush for $8, so total came out to be $35+8, $43.

    I highly recommend Nancy!

TGFY...thank god for yelp, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to find Amy without it.  I've been going to her ever since she was @ Tonic and have followed her to her own salon.  I will probably keep following her even if she happens to cut hair in Timbuktu...haha!  That's how good she is!  I've gotten compliments on how nicely my layers look all thanks to Amy.  Not only have I gotten a cut with her, but of course the whole cut/color/highlight and it has always turned out awesome!

Her salon is very modern and how a Paul Mitchell salon is supposed to look like.  She has about 3 or 4 hairstylists under her.  My daughter and I have just always gone to her and her sister Nancy, but I wouldn't doubt the rest aren't just as awesome.

Lately she has gotten very busy, you usually have to book 2 to 3 weeks in advance for a hair cut with her, but my QT is, call and ask if there have been any cancellations, you may get in quicker!

I had an appointment with Nancy yesterday, and I just have to say she was amazing!!!  My hair is thin and straight, so it's really hard to actually do something with it, however Nancy definitely knew what to do with it and gave me tips on how to make my hair have more volume.  I highly recommend this place =)

I found Amy, my stylist and the owner of "A Salon Paul Mitchell" on yelp early last year and am very glad that I did so because I will not need to continue searching for a competent, up to date, experience stylist.  When you first meet Amy, you will find that she is not likely to cut a style that does not fit your facial features.  This is so different from everyone else, who will cut anything you want them to cut and charge a lot of money for it and a lot of them can't even do that right.  I do not know exactly what it is that does with the various tools that she uses.  All I know is when she finishes, it looks just the way I want for it to look and that's all that matters.  Her prices are very competitive and fair.  I would recommend booking appointment for as far into the future as you can because she is usually booked 6 month in advance.  There was one instance were I unfortunately missed an appointment and she made accommodations to get me that same week as opposed to having me wait till the next appointment.  I did not tell her this, but after a couple months of using her, I had missed an appointment and she could not get me in soon enough and so I was forced to use the services of another stylist.  All in total I had two others cut my hair to which the results were very unsatisfactory.  I quickly got back in with Amy and have been super happy since.  She not just good at what she does, she is great at what she does.  Pays attention to detail, very professional, easy to talk to and a great young business entrepreneur.
