Review from Devin B.
Riverside, CA
I adore this place. I've been going here since I was a teenager and have never had a bad time. This is a wonderful local treat for visitors and a great hangout for locals. Btw for those that are unaware there actually is a sit down restaurant on the inside.

I walked up to the place, and noticed that they had some pretty good deals. So I ordered the 4-taco "box" and a root beer SHAKE.
Nothing about the tacos were noteworthy; soft shells with a decent amount of ground beef, and they were freshly made.
The shake is novel, but not a mind-blowing experience. I'd rather go there than the McDonald's across the street though; at least this place doesn't serve the stale; rote; mechanically created matter that Mickey D's tosses at you. IYou won't feel ripped off going there, if you're up in Crestline; but you won't think "I GOTTA come back to this place!" either. -

A small hamburger/hotdog stand, with an inside and outside eating area, the first thing I noticed was the really low prices. You can eat a feast (which I did) for around $8.
The old lady that owns the place is an eccentric Hungarian (or could be German), who happened to make cabbage rolls on the day I visited, so I had to try one (see pic). At first bite, I could taste the pork fat (yum). They were pretty decent. I thought it a bit odd that she served the cabbage roll with a side of refried beans topped with chili!
The "A burger" I ordered was nothing to write home about...the patty was so thin you could see through it. It was pretty blah tasting. The fries that accompanied the burger were just okay. I asked for a side of ranch to dip them in (I don't do ketchup-yuck), and they said it would be a .50 charge. No problem, I gladly paid up... but for .50 the container was pretty small :0( The root beer shake that I ordered with my meal was quite interesting and tasty; I'd never had a root beer shake before.
Would I go back? Probably not. But the locals seem to enjoy it. -

Contrary to another reviewer's experience, I actually *do* get cravings for The A's bean-and-cheese burritos. Order it, and you'll get a hefty burrito that could hold you all day; order it "wet," and it comes will the oddest salsa on top, sort of like Ro-Tel run through a blender. The fries have little flavor, but you get a big bunch for the price. The taquitos seem to be pre-fab and they come with a guacamole sauce, not guac. For the price, this place is fine; there are a few picnic tables near the order window, but the lakeshore provides a nicer dining experience!
