By reading the sign, I just assumed that the owners of "A Pizza Mart" had gone all-out with naming the place and had used up all of their creativity, leaving zero possibility for anything cool inside.
Just goes to prove what they say about when you assume...
Because inside, you'll find:
2 HUGE paintings: one of 2 kitties eyeing a snail, and one of Chief Joseph (if that's not style, I don't know what is!)
A happy hour menu worth remembering--cheap pints, pitchers, and pizzas.
Good pizza, served on paper plates. (Not sure how I feel about that, but it makes sense when they sell by the slice.)
Specialty nights, including Service Industry night (Sunday), GLBT night (Monday), Open Mic night (Tuesday), and 90's night (Wednesday). I can affirm that Open Mic night draws in the patrons.
If it's that packed on a Tuesday, I can't imagine what it's like on the weekends. But I'm willing to try it and find out.
ZERO STARS!
So, so, so, so horrible. This place should be called F-Mart for FAIL.
Ordered a pizza and breadsticks and was quoted 30 minutes for delivery.
30 minutes pass. 45 minutes pass.
I called and the man who answered was so rude. He told me to be patient (we were trying, but we were starving!). He ended up hanging up on me before I finished talking. I called back. He cut me off and hung up again. SERIOUSLY?!
The driver showed up after 75 minutes later with the wrong order!
NEVER AGAIN.
A-MART!!
That is what my friends and I exclaim every time we want to go out and get a drank. This place has it all, folks. Good drinks. Adequate pizza. Tolerant and friendly staff.
This one time at A-Mart I was just minding my own business when a man proceeded to barf all over the place. Normally I am not disgusted by vomiting, but this one was just plain grody. The guy was ricocheting off of the walls, he just could not control himself or what was coming out of his mouth. Anyway, it was a sorry sight. Then all of the jolly people in A-Mart joined in a serenade of "Happy Birthday" to this poor fellow, clapping on him on the back and cheering their beers. Then, after he finally made it to the bathroom, the staff started cleaning up with ear-to-ear SMILES on their faces. This is A-Mart for you. Everyone is just having a grand ol'time.
They also recently moved around the furniture, now there is a tapestry of a native american chief hanging from the back wall. Cool.
I used to live a stone's throw away from here so this was a popular choice for my thirsty friends and I.
On most days it is a chill place to hang out, enjoy $9 Mac and Jack pitchers and watch the game.
On weekend nights (starts on Thursday...it's the UDistrict, c'mon), this place gets packed to the brim, good luck trying to get service.
On one Thursday night, my friend and I stood around for a good 10 minutes trying to get drinks. We left soon after for good ol' Earls.
I'd suggest you give this place a try, just not on the weekends.
My standards lower after 10:00pm, so take this review for what it's worth.
* Good pizza
* Good drinks
* Good music
Are we seeing a theme here? That's right, A damn GOOD time! All of this for C to the H to the E to the A to the P!
Would be here a few times a week if I lived in the city.
Okay so I went here again around 6:00 on a Wednesday, where it was me, my friend, and a gaggle of bros shouting and high-fiving at the bar. Haha! Pizza is good, cheese bread is awesome (and cheap!)... but the atmosphere just isn't my thing. Added a star for the friendly bartender and my lack of annoyance. Not my favorite place in the world, though.

This place is somehow the most comfy place I've found in Seattle. Maybe the Signage keeps out the regular Seattle crowd?
Whiskey
Pizza
Fun People
Good Music
Cute Bartender
Just spent Wednesday night here hanging out with a bunch of Seattle PAXers - and by that I mean we arrived around 7 and didn't leave til around 1am. (Okay, I'm a slacker and didn't get there til 8 but whatever.)
My point is, we ordered a ton of pizza, lots of drinks, and while our first bartender wasn't the greatest, everyone loved the pizza, the prices, the second bar team of the night, and commented frequently on the amazing music selection. Everything from The Beatles to Pearl Jam and Tupac Shakur? Check. For such a diverse group with eclectic musical tastes it was high praise indeed.
We also played Connect Four for several hours - PAX 09 Omegathon practice ceases for nothing!

It's a pizza place.
With a full bar.
Of hard liquor.
WHY AREN'T THERE MORE OF THESE?!
It seems silly,… Read more »
I would give this place a 0 but you have to give at least a 1. They have terrible service. I ordered a pizza and didn't receive it for 2 hours. I tried calling and was hung up-on three times in a row. After complaining, they just stopped answering the phone. DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS PLACE!!!! THEY ARE TERRIBLE!!!!
Rad place to both cause and satisfy Drunchies. Cheap pitchers (7 bucks!), generous pizza slices and cozy interior made me want to hang out for a while.
I've seen the late night scene degenerate pretty quickly though--a growing influx of very wobbly people, lookin' for pizza and booze after a hard night of pub crawling. So this could be either a good thing or bad thing, depending on what you're after...
Whoo! I'm getting drunk flashbacks just thinking about this place.
Stiff, affordable drinks. I have not had the pizza. Loud music, perfect for the University District crowd.
Nuff said.
First of all, I cannot express how excited it makes me that they play GOOD hip hop. really loud. I revel in it. Brother Ali and the like. tis epic.
Second, they pour super stiff super cheap drinks. Not to mention that I was there last night and all Mexican beer was only TWO DOLLARS (it was a Sunday...I don't know if that's the usual). Hell yes.
And lastly, I don't think it's fair to judge this place based on their pizza quality (despite their name). Go for the drinks. And the cute bartenders. And the good tunes. Fuck the pizza.
I don't think I could love this place any more than I do. They remodeled last December/January and it is GREAT! The staff is great! The pizza is delish! (Little tip -- order the small one topping during happy hour rather than the slices or just ask the sweet bartenders about the slices but you can't beat your own little piece of heaven!) Great happy hour deals, great late night atmosphere. I would call this the u-dist's best kept little secret. I give it 5 stars for sure!
See you and all your friends at A MART!!
How can anyone say no to cheapish strong drinks? I've been going to this place since before they redid the interior and I like the atmosphere. its a nice place to hang out with friends without creepers coming up to you while you're enjoying yourself.
the pizza though, when ordered by the slice is not very good, but if you order a whole pizza its surprisingly tasty. there are usually coupons for here in the student survival kit from the UW bookstore that make the pizza an even better deal
For the people that think this is bad 'za, what are you expecting at 2am? Really?
Seattle has no legit pizza period.
This stuff is exactly what you'd expect. They're on time, accurate and it's pretty tasty.
For the longest time, the my only interaction with A-Pizza Mart was seeing their boxes. Usually discarded ungratefully to the floor, or left to rest on a coffee table next to several empty Natural Ice cans and unmanned xbox controllers. Though I didn't live with the young men who lived at this house, they were my friends so I visited frequently. The logo of A-Pizza is particularly deceptive. If you look at it closely is almost looks like "Pizza A-Mart". So for the longest time I thought it was Pizza A-Mart, even just calling it A-Mart.
This is really not relevant to anything, but what is relevant is that they deliver late into the wee hours. It's such a wonderful service that my friend has a habit of tipping big. Even dishing out a 50 dollar bill for a tip on two medium pizzas. But as the story goes, he was drunk and alone. And when you're drunk and alone, the A-Mart delivery guy is your best friend. And he is priceless.
I just remember blacking out in the bathroom here.
Ah freshman memories.
Wow, I was pleasantly surprised by this place. I thought it was a crappy pizza place on the other end of the AVE, not a cozy, atmospherically lit bar. 9 dollar pitchers of Mac and Jacks, seats at the bar, comfy chairs, and glowy lights make this place an incredibly pleasant AVE option. I'd definitely come here instead of Kai's next time. Big Time's still the best though.
A-Pizza mart, seems nice enough, has good pizza, and great place to head when things get a little out of hand at a new years eve fiesta.
Let me start off by letting you know that for whatever reason, I tend to call this place "A1 Pizza Mart." I don't know why I do this, as I've never had steak sauce here or even want to.
The last time I was at A-Pizza Mart was on New Years Eve, it was at least 1am though, and someone kept screaming "2008 man, 2008!" as we were eating our pizza. I had been drinking a bit, but I know the pizza tastes great from the previous time I was here. The atmosphere seems like it's a great place to hang out with friends and eat a good slice of pizza.
It never took too long for the food to arrive, and was always satisfied with how the food tastes. When in the U-District, and in need of Pizza, there are many places that will offer your fix, but "A1 Pizza Mart" is most likely what I would recommend.
The only reason one should really go here is for an after party or if you are already kinda drunk or something and want to walk like two blocks and sit inside (sorry ragazzi but you don't protect from the elements).
The pizza is pretty bad. It's almost like a "pizza for one" that you put in the microwave or something, it's that bad! But whatever, I give it two stars because the staff is really friendly and the drinks are cheap. It's a nice late night spot in the neighborhood. I never go in expecting the time of my life or my next great meal.
funny little story: so i'm up here visiting my sister for her graduation/ wedding and she goes, "hey go (brother), let's go out tonight!" so i'm all like, "why not?" around 9pm, we head out and meet up with her coworkers and take the bus down to god-knows-where. we end up wandering around for about 2 more miles til we ended up at the baseball stadium. after that, there was nothing or nobody else around, so we decide to walk back another 2 miles to a different bus stop to take us back; since it was so late already... probably like 1am. so on the bus ride back, the bus must've broke down like 3 times, which made our trip 3x longer getting back. hungry, somewhat angry, and tired from walking, one of my sisters friend said that we should go to pizza mart because they have 1) pizza, and 2) alcohol. i say to myself, "fantastic." if there are two things that i like, it's pizza and alcohol.
so we finally arrive to pizza mart at about 1:57am. i order my pizza and drinks and kick back. interesting little place. it just so happened to be a block away from the hotel i was staying at. funny. i probably would've enjoyed myself a little bit more if we went straight there, instead of aimlessly wandering around the ballpark for 4 hours. i order two slices, which was like about the equivalent of like 1/3 a large pizza! just as i sit down, the bouncer said that we had to finish our drinks in the next 3 mins, since we got there right before 2am. so my brother-in-law and i decided to pound all of our drink at the bouncer's recommendation. fun times. :P after we finished our pizza and ice cold beverages, everyone went their separate ways, and i walked a block down the street to my hotel.
i'm never going to hang out with my sister ever again.
ok, I'm giving this place 4 stars, mostly based on my second experience there, and I'll tell you why...
First off, the guy that was working behind the bar counter was SUPER COOL, very friendly and good at starting conversations... super nice!
Secondly, I had a funny experience...
I was sitting at the bar having a beer and waiting for a friend to show up. There were 2 guys sitting on either end of the bar from me (I was in the middle). The guy to my left, we'll call him "left guy" starts talking to the bartender about Ouzo, the greek alcohol, and telling him about how his first time drinking it was actually in Greece, so it had a warm place in his heart... The bartender said that was cool, and Left Guy said he also had it in Greece the night he lost his virginity. The bartender, exclaimed, "wow, that IS a great memory of ouzo..." they continued to talk about this for a few minutes, when suddenly the guy on my right, we'll call him "drunk guy" belts out, "Oh yeah?!? Well I lost my virginity to Mr. Bubbles." (You know, the cute cartoon bubble man on the front of those bubble bath bottles?)
Well, needless to say, we all froze, and the bartender looked at him and just said, "dude.... wtf?!? That was just WRONG dude!"
Seriously though, this place has a cool laid back atmosphere, fun decorations (including lots of christmas lights and buddha tapestries, along with tablecloths covered in fruit patterns) and good beer.
Great place to grab a quick slice and a beer with a friend before heading off to a movie or show.
Barely decent pizza, reasonably priced beer and drinks but, stay away from the by-the-slice pizza. It is usually burned beyond recognition and hardly worth the $2 it costs. The only people that come in for the stuff are drunk anyway so I guess that is acceptable quality. If you're going to eat here, get delivery or order a whole pie, then it is at least tolerable!
I give one star for the originality in the name... I mean when you need pizza and look in the phone book? JUMANJI!!! It's the first listing. And I gave half a star because they cleaned the place up. No more nasty looking tables with children doing coloring books at one in the morning and drab white walls. Another half star for all those nights at the Big Blue House and all us housemates would grab a few pies and eat them (so gross) while watching shitty TV and porn stolen from Crazy Mike's. But yeah, the pizza is disgusting, it actually tastes better cold the next morning than when you first get it.
Do you like eating really cheap food at 12:48 am? Do you drink too much while craving said food? Are you unaware that your toilet is overflowing, and your best friends girlfriend is punching a hole in the wall of your apartment? Then call A-Pizza Mart! They've got your back!
this is probly some the worst pizza ive ever eaten. In fact i think some the worst food ive ever eaten any where. blah! don't go here.
Another UW Staple. I really love their pizza!! Its been difficult replacing them since Ive graduated from the Ave. Sam- the owner- really had the place booming before I moved on. Its one of those mom and pop places that you really want to see do well and grow!
