Seriously about cake!??!! It's true!!! People are still talking about this cake 12 years later!!

If you are looking for great cake this is a must see!! They will even allow you to taste test different types. Word of warning especially to dieting brides - do NOT do this apt on an empty stomach. Wow the sugar rush is off the charts!!

Marriage is over but the memory and yearning for cake remains!!!
Let them ALL eat cake!! But make it GREAT cake!!!

Loved, loved our wedding cake!!! :) not only was it yummy but it was exactly how we had talked about and the employee drew up!

I mean our wedding was booked through the Freedom Hall so this is why we went here though. Probably would have gone elsewhere if it wasn't for that.

Our cake tasting appointment was easy to make on a Saturday which I was happy about because my husband and I work a lot and are far from here. However, we got stuck in traffic without a cell phone signal so we were 10 minutes late. Not bad I know but the employee at the front desk literally told us "so you're about 10 minutes late so were either going to have to rush or reschedule..." Um, I'm over an hour away and just told you sorry about us being late so we'll rush! Even at the "rushing" pace we were done far before her next appointment so I'm not sure what the problem with the attitude was here.
I get it, it's a business, people have things to do, a schedule to keep, but after already feeling guilty about being late in the first place, no need to make me feel worst, okay?

There is one other thing: I am sure a ton of you will be getting married at the Freedom Hall as I did, and thus, get your cake because of the package deal they offer. Well be prepared to pay more, that is, if you want your wedding cake to actually have anything decorated on it. We got 3 flowers (drawn on, not fresh), polka dots and I believe a solid color, this was extra. Also, the generic flavors that are a part of the package are not very good, so we had to pay extra to upgrade this as well. I am not sure what was "included in the package" but it seemed like it would've been a 2 tiered (we needed 3) blank white chocolate cake! This isn't a birthday party, this is my wedding!

our wedding cake was included in our wedding reception package, and this bakery was 1 of 2 places that we could choose from.  we chose this place since one of the photos they had on their website was almost exactly what we were looking for as the centerpiece of our reception.

we scheduled a cake tasting/consultation with them 3 months before our wedding.  all of the cakes tasted great, so it was difficult to choose which flavour we wanted.  fortunately, they let us pick 3, since we were ordering a 3 tier cake.  after discussing the basic design, shape of the cake, look and feel of the reception venue, we finalized the details and signed the contract.  there was an additional fee that we had to pay since we ordered a square shaped tier cake (instead of their default round cake).  we would also have to provide the silver bling ribbon and customised cake topper that we wanted for our cake.

since our on-site wedding coordinator had worked with this baker in the past, she coordinated the delivery time and logistics with them, so that my husband and i would not have to worry about this.  at the reception, we saw the cake, and it was exactly what we had envisioned, 3 square tiers, neatly stacked on top of each other, with our silver bling ribbon around each tier, and customised cake topper (made by a family friend) on the top layer.  it was perfect.  we only had a small taste of our cake (during the cake cutting) but it was very good, to our surprise, still moist in the cake and creamy on the frosting, so we were happy.

overall, a good experience, but we want to mention these 2 issues:

**when it was time to deliver the final deposit, it was around christmas-time, and unfortunately, we had a very hard time reaching the staff to find out when we could drop off our check in person.  we ended up going to the bakery and sliding the check under their front door.  even though they were closed for a few days, we were not made aware of this, nor did we receive a return call following the holidays confirming that our check had been received.  we had to followup ourselves to ensure that our deposit was received and that everything was in order.
**after the wedding, the hotel kitchen staff saved our top layer for us, along with a note detailing which rental items needed to be returned.  since we were never told that we were the ones responsible for returning various cake props, it was a bit of a surprise to us to see this note.  furthermore, we did not know what these props were, so we had to call the bakery and get an explanation of what items were to be returned, some of which required us to remove our top layer and take the props out which was a bit tricky.  fortunately, we do not live far from the bakery, so it was not a problem to return the items.

also, it would have been nice to be able to have a square shaped cake without the extra fee.

We ordered a 3-tier cake plus a sheet cake for our wedding. The cake tasting went really well and we tried many different flavors: mocha, red velvet, and chocolate mint to name a few. We also chose a simple beautiful cake design. This was our first meeting.

About a month or two before our wedding, I called A Piece of Cake Bakery to make sure everything was ok and the paperwork was in order. The person on the phone asked if we could come down to the office and go over the paperwork. When we got there, we had to wait for a while even though we had an appointment. We were informed the previous appointment came in late and they would be done shortly. We had to wait quite a while, and were feeling frustrated and annoyed, as we had another appointment the same afternoon. The staff sensed we were annoyed and offered us another cake tasting. We couldn't say no to that! All in all, we were pleased with their level of customer service.

On our wedding day, the cake looked beautiful and all our guests commented on how yummy the cake was!

Our cake was included in our package through Freedom Hall and Gardens so we got a 3-tier round cake.  All of the cakes at the tasting were delicious and I was glad that we got to choose three.

They had plenty of standard cake design options and were very patient while we tried to decide what designs we wanted.

The cake we ended up deciding on looked great and tasted even better.  We got a white cake with raspberry and cream cheese filling and a red velvet.  I can't wait to eat the mint truffle that we got for the top layer.

We got to work with A Piece of Cake Bakery through our wedding venue, Freedom Hall & Gardens (part of their wedding package).

They were easy to work with and were very organized when we first stopped by for our tasting. Not all the flavors were available to try at the tasting, but many different combinations were prepared. We ended up choosing the poppy seed with lemon filling, chocolate with mint fudge filling, and white cake with raspberry cream cheese.

We decided to go with a 4 tier cake with square and round shapes (I got a call the week of our wedding and they said they had to change it to a 5 tier instead with no extra charge... I was excited).

I was able to drop off the cake accessories (monogram topper, & rhinestone trim) weeks in advance so they would have it on the day of. They had crates of ribbon for us to use too.

We chose butter cream icing over fondant and it was still very beautiful. The ribbon and rhinestone trim were placed very carefully and precisely (good thing because I am quite the perfectionist!). The flowers and vines were really cute. My only issue was the color of the flowers- They looked more blue than purple. Oh well.

I was a little underwhelmed during our tasting session here (we had the package deal from Freedom Hall and Gardens).  My only disappointment came from the fact that many basic options were not available for tasting.  Also, some options that were available were not initially brought out to us, so the lady who was helping us had to take a minute to go get them after we asked for them.

But this past weekend the cake looked lovely and tasted even better than I remembered!

We ordered a 3-tier buttercream cake + sheet cake for our wedding. The tasting went great and the lady helping us was very friendly and patient, as I am very indecisive when presented with too many options. I think I changed my order three times over the course of three months. We ended up ordering two flavors: the ribbon cake with mocha truffle filling and white cake with raspberry filling. We chose a simple design with scroll piping and ribbon that turned out beautifully...exactly what we wanted with no extra cost. We received a ton of compliments at our wedding on how gorgeous the cake looked and how yummy it tasted, with the mocha truffle being the favorite. At this point I was ready to give this place 5 stars and recommend it to all my friends.

However, two months after our wedding we received an unpleasant surprise (hence the -2 stars). We noticed a charge for a $50 security deposit without any notification, emails, phone calls, or any other communication. When we inquired, we were told that we didn't return the plates and pillars that held the cake together-- however, we did not have any pillars on our cake and never imagined that cake plates were something that needed to be returned. We did have one piece of plastic left from our top tier, but overall it was just not worth the effort to follow up with our reception venue at that point to see if they had anything left.

All in all, I am satisfied and would order from this bakery again. It would be nice if they would remind or specifically write out what items need to be returned prior to delivery. You can compare this to our florist, who had everything needing return listed on an email, and gave us reminders the week after the wedding.

We visited 3 other bakeries before choosing this one. This place is great if you want a reasonably priced, delicious tasting cake with a simple design. Can't comment on the fondant cakes. If you want fancier/more customized designs with more of a wow factor (like the kind you see on TV and magazines), I would probably look elsewhere.

Since I took the time to finally review my wedding venue from 2004, I thought it was about time that I reviewed my cake...since well....I still think about this amazing wonderful yummy ...amazing...umm.. tasty...dreamy...sexy...yummy...just YUMMY cake.

So this is how it went down... my wedding was on halloween in 2004...I wanted a unique cake but the most important thing to me was taste.

I LOVE CAKE. I mean in an almost unreasonable orgasmic way...I LOVE CAKE.

So my aunt Caroline decided to pay for my cake as a gift... HOW ROCKIN! ... I was reading online about important questions to ask your cake person and whatnot.

I had checked out some places on my own...but A Piece of Cake was the first real appointment I had.

We walked in and I was generally not impressed... (mind you...I have not been back since 2004... so I have no idea what it looks like now) but the people were so polite.

We sat down and they brought out samples and books of cake designs. I saw one with chocolate dripping down it...as if someone had spilled a big bucket over the whole cake ... it was beautiful and kinda creepy...perfect for halloween.

As we munch on the samples, I remembered to ask my questions that the grand internet had told me to ask...one of those being "how far in advance will you be making my cake?"

I ask and take a bite of the delicious black and white cake sample and they said "how do you like this sample?"

    I said "its delicious."

She smiled and said ... "I made those last week. Your cake will only be made a day or so before."

With a happy smile I swallowed up all the samples on the table (Why? BECAUSE I LOVE CAKE! DUH!) ... and happily shook their hands and knew I had made the right choice. There was no one else to see...this was where my cake would be from.

The price scared me a little... (it was 2x the price of my dress) but did I care?? Nope...the cake was amazing.

They even put a candy corn border on the bottom of each tier.

Now how did my guests like it??

Lets just say... you know how you are supposed to save the top tier for your wedding anniversary?? I made it VERY clear that I wanted to do that (I was lying to my guests...I wanted to take it on the honeymoon and EAT IT!) ... but when I turned around... the top layer was being cut into and my cake was gone. Gone gone gone. Every last piece was GONE.

Friends...family....they talk about their love for my cake to this day.

I may not have a husband...but I have great memories of the best cake I have ever...EVER ...had.....EVAR!! (Yes..I spelled it that way on purpose! haha)

I'm not a big fan of cake but my brother got his cake from here for his wedding. I was in charge of watching the cake (wonderful right?) Anyways, everyone LOVED the cake and at the end of the night I knew why I had to stand guard:

    A) I wouldn't touch it
    B) Everyone wanted as much as they could possible get..

finally I gave in and ate a piece of the red velvet wedding cake. It was pretty good and that means A LOT coming from me... The decorations were a little blah in my opinion BUT it was exactly what my brother/sister in law wanted for their cake... something fun.

Everyone was truly satisfied with the cake at the wedding and I know plenty of couples heading this way for their wedding cake!

They also talked about how great the customer service was here but since I wasn't there for the tastings I can't personally speak about it.

A  Piece of Cake Bakery made an awesome cake for our wedding back on February 22. It was included in the package we had through the Freedom Hall and Gardens.

Had a great time sampling the different cakes at our tasting. I guess they were saving the best for last when they brought out the mango flavor. (Come on! My wife and I are Filipino!) Anyways, we went with Tira Misu ( an upgrade), Mango, and Red Velvet (this was kept).  All of our guests enjoyed the cake and were asking if we had any left over to share.

One thing I wished they did was bake you a new tier on your 1 year anniversary date. I know it's tradition to eat the original cake from the freezer, but, a fresh baked cake would taste much better!

I'm a live in the moment type person. I never spent much time planning my future wedding except for the few times cable shows sparked my interest.  Truthfully, as girly as I am, I never had dreams of a princess wedding. So I guess it makes sense that after years of dating my husband and I ended up tying the knot in a quick Tahoe ceremony with little more than 24 hours of planning.

That being said, I do like a good party and would never, ever, ever pass up the chance at an awesome shindig. So planning I am doing. Still, I am pretty laid back and when it comes to cake I'd like to leave that up to someone else because I'm always the one to turn down cake, for say a beer or extra artichoke dip or any savory crudite, champagne etc. etc.

So it took me about 2-3 hours of solid online searching for me to plan the whole thing down to the shoes.

    I'm kidding.

But as a true to the core optimist and efficiency expert I did think it would be that easy. Guess I was wrong.

So we tried cakes here at The Knot reknowned Piece of Cake Bakery and it was the easiest and best experience I have had, although, I have never spent more than 40 bucks for a cake (guava at Aki's of course and it turns out Aki's and Piece of Cake Bakery share the same owner.) The staff is honest, awesome and not pushy at all, they assessed our needs and let us try their creamy deliciousness and the tasting was free! I knew I didn't want an Ace of Cakes fondant monstrosity but something medium sized and classic.

    So here's the wedding checklist:

    1 item down....about 45 others to go.

I hope my dress purchasing is this smooth and easy.  I'm a shopper with simple requirements but I have to say I was blown away by the attentive service and superb cake.

I recently coordinated a wedding where the couple ordered a cake from this bakery. I had heard great things about them so I was very excited about it.

When I showed up at the reception venue, i was horrified to find the cake's decoration was completely broken up and even the chocolate had melted on it. Seriously, it's one of the most horrific things I've ever seen. What miffed me most is that the delivery man did not think it was a problem for a cake to be delivered in such bad condition. I mean.. seriously???

I called the bakery and they were apologetic and tried to work with me on it. Unfortunately, the reception was slated to begin very soon and their estimated 30 min travel time + 30 min fixing time wasn't going to work.

The florist was appalled at the condition of the cake and was very hesitant to try to patch up the cake with flowers for fear that she might become liable for it. However, after I took pictures of the cake and assured her, she did her best to cover up the cracks with flowers. (The florist did an awesome job btw and her name is Patty Lee).

i dont believe the bakery made any attempts to contact me or the couple about what action they would take to try and repair the situation. On the upside, he cake was in fact delicious. Unless they promise that they have a back-up cake ready to go for each wedding, I would not recommend them. I dont think I've ever seen a wedding cake in such a terrible state as the one i delivered. Once I get permission from the couple, i will be uploading images.

So this was my first wedding cake tasting so I was completely lost.... I had no clue what to expect except that I would get to try some cake.  Good times right?

Now my fiance and I are superrrrrrrrrr early [we're not getting married till Oct 2010] so I know a lot of the bakeries that we've been contacting are going "hrmph, they just want free cake".... but honestly we're just trying to get everything DONE so that by this time next year, i just gotta worry about fitting into my gown ;)

So first of all, bakeries in general SUCK at getting back to email.  And I'm an even bigger jerk because I emailed her on Tuesday morning to try to schedule a tasting on Wednesday!  But the lovely Norma had no problem fitting us into her busy schedule.  We got there at about 1250 for our 1pm appointment.... I didn't even say anything when we came in, she just started talking to me as if we were lifelong friends!

The tasting itself was wonderful, she gave us a variety of flavors of cake and frostings.  She figured that she was one of our first bakeries but she didn't try to pressure us into signing contracts and what not.  She was very upfront about the pricing and what we needed [as far as decorating or whatever] and what we could probably skip.

Like I said, this was our first bakery so I'm not sure if this is normal?  But I think she was wonderful and we just might get our cake from here!

I just had Gary deliver my wedding cake to my reception in San Francisco. When I went for the tasting, I thought it was good but not amazing. Being that friend was giving my cake as a gift and they personally knew someone at this bakery, I decided to go with them.

Wellllll, my cake was AMAZING. I am not just saying that, I received multiple compliments on how good it looked and tasted. I even ate some that night since someone told me I had to eat a full piece, I don't like wedding cake very often and I really loved mine. It was moist and tasty, I was so happy!
I had another piece a few nights later of a different layer. This one was slightly sweet for me but still delicious!  The only reason they get 4 stars instead of 5 is that a few times I found it difficult to get a call back. Overall, I would highly recommend this place for your wedding cake!

I've always been a yelp fan and consumer only, but my horrible cake tasting experience here has turned me into a contributor.

A few caveats before my review:

    1. I absolutely LOVE Aki's bakery (hard to believe, but they are owned by the same people).  Their guava cake is flavorful, sweet (but not overly sweet) and moist!  An absolute must have.

    2. My fiance and I had been to 2 other bakeries in the south bay before going to Piece of Cake so we were used to how those wedding cake places work.

    Okay, review time:

First, most places have simple, straightforward pricing for their cakes (eg. buttercream frosting $6.50 per slice, fondant $8.50 per slice, sheet cake $150, etc.).  Not so much at A Piece of Cake.  The woman who was "helping" us insisted that we tell her exactly what we wanted before she would tell us any prices.  The conversation literally went like this:

"Okay, how much would a fondant bow cost?"
"Oh, I think that's about $20 extra dollars"
"And what about square cake versus round?"
"That will be about $50 more, but it really depends on how big your cake is"

And on and on and on.  No pricing sheet, nothing!  We were so unbelievably frustrated and we hadn't even tasted any cake yet!  Then someone from the back office ran into the room and started asking our consultant if they were "supposed to deliver the cake now".  They proceeded to have a minute conversation about this.  In the midst of their confusion, my fiance and I were slowly losing confidence in their ability to get an order/delivery correctly.  C'mon, at least avoid the conversation of ineptitude in front of the potential customers!  Am I wrong?

Finally, the consultant brought out the cake samples on a plate and a sheet of paper that outlined what which type of cake was where on the plate (a cake plate legend, if you will).  I was already super annoyed with our consultant and the fact that she didn't orient the plate correctly just made it worse!  When I asked her to tell us about some of the cake samples, she said "just read the paper", so we literally sat in silence for a couple minutes as we read the (incorrect) cake descriptions.  Luckily, one of the pieces was poppyseed which had a distinctive look, so we oriented the plate correctly and it was time for tasting!  The whole time, I was thinking "well, at least we get free cake!".  Oh, how I wish I could get those calories back!

The first piece I tried was the apple cinnamon and it was literally the worst cake I've ever tasted.  Tasteless and dry.  Then on to the mocha chocolate cake that had a funky aftertaste.  Seriously, it's HARD to screw up the taste of chocolate cake.  It was just disaster after disaster.  There were about 8 samples on the plate and the only ones that were even close to decent were the poppyseed cake with lemon curd and the white cake with raspberry preserves.  Even those couldn't compare to our least favorite cakes at Bijan and La Patisserie.

In the end, the cake was going to cost us more than Bijan or La Patisserie and we wasted our time and stomach room on this place.  We're going with La Patisserie.  Their cakes are just divine and their prices are very reasonable.

    A Piece of Cake?  Oh, it's a piece of something . . .

The best tasting wedding cake I've had in a very long time!

Based on my experience, wedding cake in America is very fancy looking, but tastes like crap. Under the beautiful surface it usually lies a dry bland horrific tasting cake. I am so glad that a wedding cake finally proves me wrong.

I was debating if I should write a review for this place since I only tasted their cake at a friend's wedding. But I was so impressed by the moist, rich, and spongy perfect taste of it, I just can't stand not writing anything about it. The frosting was a bit sweet for my taste, but the quality was still superb! As tasty as the cake was, the design and the look of it was still stunning.

I was very happy for the successful wedding my friends had, and everyone including me were giving so many compliments on their cake. Now I just hope my own wedding cake could just be as fabulous as theirs!

Friends of ours got their wedding cakes from this place so we decided to make a bee-line to this joint for our wedding banquet.  Prices were reasonable, but once you start adding the decorative stuff, they charge an arm and a leg (ie. the fondant bow to top off our cake cost us $50 and each sugar daisy flower was $5!).  I didn't shop around so I'm not sure if that is the standard cost or not!  We were happy with the end product, got lots of compliments on the cake being yummy and all so that was nice.

6/6/08 Update:  They do birthday cakes too!  I ordered my daughter's birthday cake here and was not able to get a slice because I was too busy to grab a slice!  I was so butt-hurt about it and kept whining about it that my husband ordered my birthday cake from here as well...It was great! :)

I went there today for  cake tasting.  I have to say the price was way over my budget (a three tier square cake to feed around 150 people turned out to be $1115).

Aside for the price, their cakes are delicious and the service was great.  The girl who helped us was patient and gave us a lot of suggestions.

This wedding cake maker is a preferred vendor for our hotel. We wanted to consider them since there's a discount associated with using them.

Unlike the other places we went to taste cakes, this place is purely cakes rather than also a specialty bakery. It's a strange feeling walking into an office that basically has a few meeting tables and wall-to-wall displays of cakes.

The cake samples were pretty good. They're small portions but you get to try six flavors. They also provide a couple charts that help explain many of your basic questions. It's nice to have all that explained. We thought the cakes were tasty, especially the cheesecake and mocha truffle. Being our first cake tasting we weren't totally sure what to expect, but it seemed like a decent choice.

We sat down with our consultant who also was manning the front desk. He was friendly but seemed a bit young and inexperienced. When we asked about things such as cake slice size, ganache, and adding fresh fruit to the cakes, he was sometimes hesitant and had to go in back for more information. This part of the visit was a bit of a turnoff for us. If we're going to be charged more than normal for a cake because of the "w" word, we at least expect better service.

He wrote us up two price estimates, one for buying the cake ourselves and one if we went through the hotel. I was surprised by the extra charges they had for fresh fruit, premium flavors, and for extras likes gum paste flowers. I would learn later that other cakes shops that charge similar prices don't always charge extra for decoration requests like they do. I can understand that a lot of extra detail deserves it, but I felt forced to keep it simple to avoid growing costs.

I'm sure we probably would be fine ordering a cake from them, but we're probably going to go with another baker who offered more bakery options and direct contact with the bakers.

I'll go with the average 3 stars here because honestly the cake wasn't amazing or anything, in fact, a lot of the flavors were kind of dull.

However, what I did like was the fact that they are connected to Aki's Bakery, so if you want to do a small wedding cake and then go through Aki's for sheet cakes, there is no other coordinating, just order it from APOC and it's all set.

Also, Norma was a pleasure to deal with while we were trying to plan.  It sounds like we are going to go with someone else, but APOC was very accommodating, wanted our business, and had some very nice designs, and again, decent (but not great) cakes.  Their prices were also reasonable and right around what we were getting from other places.

A lot of wedding venues include a cake from them in packages, and I would not be disappointed if that was the case and we got our cake from here.  But my fiancee liked a few other South Bay bakeries better, so we're going with them, since obviously, the day is all about her!  Haha =)

Our venue package includes a cake from this bakery, so we had a tasting a few weeks ago.  Our experience was similar to "Melissa E." - staff was friendly, but the cakes did not taste good.  I have a sweet tooth, but none of the samples were fresh (all previously frozen).  I am crossing my fingers that our wedding cake tastes better than the tasting!

    ** Updated (post-wedding) **
I changed my rating from a 2 to 4 star.  The cake we had at the wedding was delicious and was nothing like the samples during our tasting!  Minus one star since our option was limited unless we wanted to pay extra for the cake (standard design, one color, etc.), and the cake slices passed out during the reception was pretty small.  However, the taste of the cake made up for the "cons"!

Piece of Cake was awesome cake!!

All our guests at our wedding loved the cake!

Norma was so helpful during our tasting... she is real, down-to-earth and made the entire experience fun and painless!

My husband isn't a huge cake person, but Norma helped him appreciate the cakes importance through a guests perspective.

We chose, the ribbon for one layer, the tiramisu (although it's not really tiramisu - but similar) and the top was red velvet!

    Thank you POC!

I have to say that of all the places I went to this was the worst. We were able to get an appointment fairly quickly. When we tasted the cake however, I basically felt that I could go down to Safeway and get something of the same quality. The girl who helped us was nice, but she didn't really seem like she knew what she was doing.

    I wouldn't recommend them.

I got my cake through APOC because our wedding was at the Freedom Hall and it's part of their package.

Previously, my mom and I had tasted APOC's wedding cake at a bridal show. We also tasted three other bakeries' wedding cakes. APOC was BY FAR the tastiest, yummiest cake! The others were literally gross and if Freedom Hall contracted with them, I would have cried.

The lady we worked with (Yvonne, I think? or Norma?) was soooooo nice and very helpful. When I was stressing about the type of ribbon to buy to go on the cake, she whipped out a whole tub of ribbon and helped me choose from their supply. One less thing for a stressed bride to do! (If she had only told me they had ribbon in the first place, instead of me spending weeks driving around looking for what I wanted...but oh well!)

All the guests loved our cake. We loved our cake, too! It's hard to leave that top layer in the freezer for another. . .gasp. . .11 months!

A Piece of Cake Bakery was hired for my Wedding in July 2010.
They were very friendly and helpful. I never had an troubles getting my questions answered. They did a phenomenal job on my cake. I received so many compliments on the taste as well as the appearance.
I would highly recommend this bakery for your wedding or special event!

This bakery made our event cake, it was included as part of a package at the venue we used.

I will say first off that the taste and quality of the cake was very good!  We had a four tiered cake and different flavours for each tier.  Raspberry Cheesecake, Poppy Seed & Lemon Curd, Mango Curd and Raspberry Curd.  The Raspberry was ok.  We absolutely loved the Mango Curd and almost didn't get to taste it because everyone wanted it.  Poppy Seed and Lemon Curd was also very good.  The cake was moist, the icing not too sweet, and I still have to go back to the Mango Curd filling and say it is addictive!

The cake tasting was okay.  You cannot choose the flavours you want to taste.  They do a standard selection for you to try.  The place is small, right across from Costco on Lawrence and Kifer.

The reason I am giving this place three stars instead of more, is because the design is not what I wanted.  I wanted flowers all over the cake, not just on the front.

The cake was still pretty....just seemed "off" to me because of the placement of the flowers.

I was really impressed by the decorative work at the wedding I shot this weekend. It was a simple cake, but the frosting design was dynamic, asymmetrical, and stunning. I give this bakery 4/5 stars because I was so busy I didn't get a chance to taste it, but everyone seemed to like it! I attached a couple photos to the business page, but more photos of the cake can be found here: http://www.goodeyephot...

So we found this place on line while looking for some one to do our wedding cake.

The cake tasting went really well, they sat with us and didn't rush us or try to pressure us with anything. So we picked our flavors and, then came back a few months later just to refresh and they were fine with that. They really tried to help us stay within our budget, by giving us different options, on cake sizes etc.

When we received our cake on our wedding day it looked great, though they did forget to put some beading on it. However they made up for it by giving us a certificate for a free cake. But regardless the cake turned out great. I would highly reccomend this place for weddings or other special days. Would of given 5-stars if it were not for the beading

Just had my wedding over the weekend and I have to say, APOC exceeded my butter cream expectations.  APOC was the bakery used by our reception site, so we were inclined to go with them.  Usually, when ordering cakes for special occasions, I ask that fondant be used because it just makes the cake look better.  But being already over budget, and the fact that my husband HATES the taste of fondant, we opted for butter cream icing.  Now, I've been to several weddings where butter cream is used and the cake ends up looking typical, lumpy and just not very pretty.  But in this case, APOC used my inspiration picture and baked it in to reality...down to the beautiful bow that they created as a cake top. The cake was gorgeous and it tasted delicious.  We received compliments all night (our cake flavors were mocha truffle, chocolate mint ribbon and lemon curd) and our two year old daughter went around to each table with her fork sampling the different cake flavors.

Also, kudos to Norma for being so helpful and so accommodating to our changes.  She's awesome!!

This was apart of my package at Freedom Hall and Gardens. Here is an update to the previous review now that the wedding day has happened. I was very wary of them because of the experience I had sat the cake tasting but they really came through. I had the ribbon with the mocha truffle filling on all three layers because to be honest it was the only flavor that tasted really good. The cake turned out beautiful!!!! It was exactly how I wanted it. It was almost so pretty I did not want to ruin it by cutting it and eating it, lol. Besides the fact that the cake was gorgeous it tasted amazing. It was rich and full of flavor. I loved it so much. Everyone ended up eating almost all of it. We only had a couple of slices left which we will save for our anniversary. Everyone was telling how amazing the cake was. People are still complimenting me on it. I was so happy everything turned out great. My birthday is coming up and I want their ribbon cake with the mocha truffle filling. They make amazing cake and I high recommend. YUM!

We had a wedding cake tasting here, and thought this place was great.  Their cake tasted very good, and their designs were extensive and elaborate.  We did not go with this bakery because of the cost.  They were much more expensive than the baker we decided to go with.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!! Not only did they deliver the wrong wedding cake, but the one that was delivered had cracks in the fondant and the ribbon that they used had staining all over it; the cake looked as if it was made many days in advance. I went in for my taste testing and decided to upgrade my cake ( for an additional $325), at that time I brought a picture of my dream wedding cake to show them exactly what I wanted, I even left the picture with them.  I selected gum paste flowers and fondant draping instead of fresh flowers, none of which was put on my cake. Additionally, they argued with me saying they placed a call with me to ask that I bring the flowers to the bakery, which they never did... obviously, because I elected to have the gum paste flowers, not fresh ones! Later I received a call from the bakery, only after my caterer called to inform them of their mix up, and all they could say was, "we must have mixed you up with another customer, I should have taken better notes." I absolutely will NEVER use this bakery again and I will NEVER recommend them to anyone. They apparently don't believe in professionalism, they don't care about their customers and they don't know how to make a good cake.

If I could give them negative stars I would!!!

Our cake came as part of a package with Freedom Hall & Gardens.  I was really pleased with the taste of the cake and the options we had to choose from.  I was a bit worried at first because I went to a bridal show and they were there with samples and the cake tasted kind of dry which was surprising. However at the sampling at Piece of Cake the cake was moist and tasty and on our wedding day the cake was great.  All of my guests commented on how cute the cake was and how delicious it was.  We had red velvet for the bottom tier, a yellow and chocolate cake with some mousse filling for the middle tier and then our personal tier was lemon curd with fondant frosting.  I was also pleased with the how the cake design turned out.  I would definitely recommend this bakery to anyone looking for a cake.
