I can't speak for others, as an Asian-American, this wasn't/ isn't common practice especially when I was in unfamiliar territory. People would giggle when I talk of my experience but they truly offer a much needed service. Now, I want to share it with you...
With my busy lifestyle, I don't have the time to sunbathe or layout on the beach or pool. Although, I'd love to... who doesn't, right? But, I wanted a quick and easy solution to rid of my "farmers tan." I've researched quite a few salons in the area and this seemed to offer the best rates & customer relationships (thanks people for your YELP reviews).
I still had an thorough amount of questions, Ron (owner) was able to answer with relative ease; such as, can my g'nads get burnt? Oops, TMI, huh =( Without going into details, I went through the process with relative comfort & ease. A couple days later, I looked at myself in the mirror and it successfully addressed my "farmers tan." Great job, APT!
Salon: This perfect little quaint establishment is perfect for those looking for personal "one-on-one" service. A comfortable stress free environment with cool jams complete the ambiance (are you sure this isn't a spa?). Most importantly, for me, they offered clean and private rooms.
Service/ experience: Very informative staff & owner. They were very conscious & honest of his customers needs. It was obvious because regular customers were coming in & out while I was asking questions (very encouraging).
If you're in the area, locally or afar, you will love their individual TLC. Why save a couple bucks elsewhere? Join his salon and become a regular and save $$$ over time (with seasonal promotions).
I'm the biggest supporter of local business' and in this case it's be so worth it. I'll be back, for sure... And when you do, say HELLO to Ron & Jackie Soto and tell them you found them on YELP. I did!

Have to preface this review by saying that I'm friends with the owner, but hopefully this makes what I have to say more relevant. If it sucked, I would have just not said anything.
First off, I don't tan. I'm pale, transparent even. I lived in San Diego for ten years, and didn't have color until the tenth year. Then I moved to NY, and immediately looked like a human that evolved underground. Once a few of us were out at Central Park on a nice summer day, we all laid out to catch some sun. I was asked to put my shirt back on, because the light reflecting from my body was blinding people.
I worried about getting a tan, without it, I'd just look like a marshmallow. With it... a toasted marshmallow.. It's summer, graham crackers and chocolate and all of a sudden, it's a dangerous time to be a toasted marshmallow.
Despite my hesitation, I was encouraged to just try it and if you do know someone, why go somewhere else? Ron was working and he greeted me and my friend, and gave us the tour and talked us through the mystic tans, the different beds, what people liked and why. He works hard to keep things up to date, and take care of his customers, and that's really all you need to know.
Oh, and he keeps the place clean and takes care of the little things. Nice.
The tan came out nice, it was fast, and I didn't come out orange like an oompa loompa.

having recently moved from so-cal, i've been kinda missing out on the traffic-y drive to santa monica beach for a tan ... and being cooped up indoors for being in an accelerated nursing program doesn't help either...
so, i thought... "time to go for a tan!" i've got a bachelorette p. to attend in vegas, and i really don't want to scare people away exposing them to the ten different shades of "color" i have on my body.
looked up yelp and found this place. my first visit was awesome, got to meet ron, who was real nice and helped with a plan to attack my unnevenness. he gave me a tour of the place, explained the different types of beds and different types of lotion... i never thought tanning could be this complex, but he and his staff made it easy! the place itself is clean, and they provide you with a stereo and headphones, clean towel, wipes in the rooms... in addition to other knick knacks we may need (after tan lotion, deodorant, etc)
btw, for other first timers who are interested in doing tanning beds rather than mystic tan, ... it would help to come in a week or two earlier than your "event" or whatever vacation you're tanning for. for one, you don't know how you react to the tanning beds, and two... it's just better to plan and be organized =)
anyway, tanning here is totally worth the drive from san mateo. thank you guys for the fun tanning experience! paleness ain't got nothin on mee!! =]

I highly recommend Perfect Tan because of their high standard for customer service. Ron, the owner, takes the time to understand the customer's tanning needs before offering any suggestions. The employees do not push product and services unnessarily. The salon has a small community feeling since the employees know you by name rather than a number.

A perfect tan is so awesome!! I LOVE their new mystic tan booth!! The salon is clean, and the staff are so helpful! I recommend them to ALL my friends!! Check it out!!

this tanning salon is the best, it's clean, and the staff is knowledgeable about products. i have tanned at all the locations in the past and every time i did i got dark. that means that the keep up on maintenance of all of the equipment are up to date!
plus i personally know the owner and he's the best. he will totally make sure that you are taken care of as well as have the best products and services to make sure u get the sunkissed glow u want!

I love this place. Each winter I go back for 5-6 tans and the workers remember me from the winter before. They have a good selection of beds. The Onyx is by far the best. Only 9 minutes and I leave feeling great from the Vitamin-D that I got, and I look like I've been to the beach everyday for a week! I tan very quickly, so I can only go here once every two or three weeks to tan. Otherwise I'd look funny--the beds give a nice deep tan. Great lotions for sale and helpful and chatty workers. They are open until 7 on some nights which is nice.
