I have never visited the new location in Pasadena, but I really enjoy this theater in Glendale. I saw one comedy which was pretty good but i dont remember who this play calls. But all actors was talented and pretty (I like to watch beautiful people) and the second play I saw was Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky. That was awesome. It was only 3 actors. One guys played Raskolnikov during all play and 1 female was playing all female personages and another guys was playing the rest males.
Creepy but I felt the same way then I read the book.
I'm looking forward to visit their Pasadena location. -

Intimate, classic theater. Their new facility in Pasadena has a very different vibe then the old place in Glendale, but it is an absolutely beautiful theater! There are no bad seats in the house, and I have yet to see a bad performance from this great repertory group.
Skip the valet parking and park at the Madre metro stop next door. -

A Noise Within is the best theater company in Los Angeles and the only one based on the classical repertory concept. You can see modern classics like Ibsen, O'Neill and Pinter or Shakespeare. We're damn lucky to have this company here and they're well worth supporting.
Acting, costumes, staging and execution of the material are A+, first-rate. You'll NEVER see a bad show here. It's well worth the trek if you aren't already in Pasadena. -

Took classes here and did the Summer with Shakespeare. Learned so much, had a lot of fun.

This is a theater company which performs masterpieces of classical theater in a masterful way. The Glendale location provides an intimate environment for the audience as the seats are very close to the stage. The actors excel at their trade while the artistic directors create uncompromising sets.
Tip: The actors come back on stage to take questions from the audience on certain nights. Look for these evenings in the calendar as it can double the experience of the performance. -

I'm updating my review, since I have now been to the new Pasadena location of A Noise Within.
Let me say first the staff is super nice and helpful, especially the house manager.
Parking is not in front, but a block away in a parking structure. For me, it was no big deal, but a lot of people I know in LA don't like to walk for even a block.
The production I saw, The Bungler, was top notch. Despite the fact that I saw a dress rehearsal with the understudying playing the lead, honestly he was so good I can't imagine anyone doing it better. I saw it with two friends, and they were wowed.
The new theater is much nicer than the old one. Having said that, it lacks some of the intimacy and funky charm of the old location.
The following was my original review for the old location on Brand Blvd.
I've only been to this place twice. But, both time the acting was top notch. And the first time I went with an actor friend of mine, and he was very impressed.
This theater is very intimate. It's pretty small, and the stage is only about a foot above floor level, just arms length away from the closest seats. I think it adds to the experience.
I know they are planning to move to a brand new theater in Pasadena soon. I'm sure it will be beautiful, but I will miss the old place. You would never guess there is a theater up there on the top of that old Masonic Temple on Brand Blvd. It's a funky set-up, but I like it.
But, like I said, the acting and the production value are excellent. Just don't expect super cool sets and set changes, Broadway or Vegas style flash and glitz. -

300th review and I have saved it for A Noise Within.
I came to watch "The Rainmaker."
The cast is amazing. Fantastic acting and very impressive flexibility of the stage which measured no more than 15'x10'.
The building itself is an old abandoned Masonic Temple with several floors and narrow staircases. The restrooms are small and seemingly built for children which makes me believe that the room we were in that evening was a classroom used for children studies.
Where we sat, the room could probably accommodate no more than 100 people. Outside in the hall there was a small area set up for snacks, coffee, tea, and water.
After the play, we were greeted with a pleasant surprise. Not noticing our surroundings when we drove in since we were looking for the building, the evening gave light to Jewel City which shone like a beacon in the middle of an otherwise dismal stretch of road.
We walked around the city blocks and were very happy with this unplanned stroll and its attractive designs. I was quite pleased with the semi-recreation of the Bellagio fountains and enjoyed watching it through the windows of the third floor patio balcony in Barnes and Noble.
Walking back through the streets and back to the car, I looked at the theater building from a distance and saw what great character it held and how different all of this was from what seemed to be another world back in Orange County.
It's a humble theater with a very impressive repertory of actors. If it wasn't so far from my house, I would make it a point to return before too long.
Thumbs up. -

We got some free tickets to see oliver twist here from a friend and were pleasantly surprised. I expected the same boring version and they really did a great job with it. It is a repertory theater so it is a bunch of actors who get to know each other well so it seemed like there was good chemistry on stage. Also they did a really cool presentation with some unexpected and delightful moments in what is already a well known story.
I will be back. I think they are moving to a new theater in Pasadena. -

Look here you dumbass. Get your uncultured ass off of the couch and go see a play at A Noise Within. All they do is classical stuff and they kick ass at it. You'll have a chance to see why all those plays you read in high school and college are actually entertaining. If you see a play with Geoff Elliot in it, you'll want to move to his home state of Kentucky just so you can hear other people that talk like him.
Generally, they don't muck with the plays that much, meaning you're probably not going to see a production of Death of a Salesman set in a post-apocalyptic desert. (Every once in a while, they'll do a slightly experimental version of a Shakespeare or a Greek play, but if they're doing a play by someone like Chekhov, Shepard, Shaw, Orton, Beckett, Miller, etc. it will be pretty close to the playwright's intentions.) -

I LOVE this place. The first time I went here was 6 years ago when I was a freshman in high school. I am so grateful that my teachers in high school would bring us here at least twice a year. I always enjoyed the plays and enjoyed the question and answers the actors would do after. After high school I went back as part of a college assignment I had. That was in 2009. Since then they have moved and I am looking forward to seeing them at their new location.
This is a great place. The actors are fantastic and you will not be disappointed. -

I've been to a number of performances. Last season, Ghosts by Ibsen was sensational. I love the fact that this company focuses on acting and communicating the text to their audiences rather than trying to impress with fancy sets and radical interpretations and "reinvisionings".
The theatre is certainly intimate. I hope it will preserve the quality and intimacy in the new space.Comment from Niki B. of A Noise Within 10/5/2009

I adore small local theaters with good production values and this one fits the bill. They have maybe 100 seats in the house all very close to the stage. There is no need for actors to be mic'd in this place!
I went to see Noises Off and the cast was very funny and energetic. This play requires so much energy to pull off it's ridiculous. Even the stage hands got a round of applause since the entire set get's to do a 360 twice during a show.
If you're on a budget (like myself) check out http://www.goldstar.com/ for a good deal on tickets. You don't get to pick your seats but with a theater this small it's near impossible to get a bad seat. -

HUZZAH!! It's happened. Today was a day to be proud of for our beloved ANW.
Today I was able to attend the official groundbreaking ceremony for ANW's new home in Pasadena (near the corner of Foothill and Sierra Madre Villa, adjacent to The Stuart at Sierra Madre Villa).
It was so fun to see some of the company and friends cavort around in an informal "performance," in honor of the attendees and all things theatrical.
On behalf of my gentleman friend, my now adult son, and myself -- we have all so enjoyed ANW's top-notch presentations -- THANK YOU to so many, including: Geoff Elliott, Julia Rodriguez-Elliott, the whole damned company, Robert & Dennis DePietro, Wendy Garen, David Worrell, Jeff Allen, Terry Kay, Steve Haderlein, Pasadena Mayor Bill Bogaard. You all worked hard to build up ANW, and I can't imagine our community without it. In my review of 1-19-08, I told Yelpers how taking my son to a ANW production did much to foster his own passion for the classical performing arts. The presentations these people made at today's event underscored the sentiments that theater arts are not just enriching, they are absolutely necessary to our humanity, all the more so in these times of challenge and anxiety. ANW needs $3,000,000 to move forward with this next step in its evolution. Together, we can help them out! Check out: http://www.anoisewithi....Listed in: The Places I Go Out

ANW is definitely a place to go to if you like astounding productions. The actors are incredible, the plays well-directed. Tickets are also quite affordable, especially for students like me (you can get Student Rush tickets for around $15-$18 an hour before the play starts). Their current production of Man of La Mancha is breathtaking. Anyone who is around the area should definitely check this place out. ANW is truly Jewel City's prime jewel. Sadly, they're moving to another location out of Glendale in about a year. Better relish this place now because it's not going to be here forever.

Great old fashioned masoninc building with spooky spiraling staircase to several floors of stages. I saw Moliere's Imaginary Invalid there. It was a great production. The size of the stages make the atmosphere intimate. You feel like your one in the same as the actors. The gothic architecture makes you feel like youve been transported back in time.

I've been a fan of A Noise Within for years. I've seen Shakespeare performed at Stratford-upon-Avon, at the Old Globe in London, and at the theater used by the Royal Shakespeare Company in London. A Noise Within's productions, while working on a much smaller budget, offer wonderful interpretations of the Bard's work, with actors as superb as as the ones I mentioned above. That is not true for all Shakespearean companies.
I've also enjoyed the non-Shakespeare productions at ANW. Often you can get discount tickets via email services that offer discounts to LA theater. For less than most movies, you can enjoy an evening of
wonderful live theater.
