One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
I've had a gift certificate burning a whole in my wallet for awhile and it was about to expire, so I decided to go in for a pregnancy treat. Their pregnancy 101 package includes a one hour floation, one hour massage, and an "invigorating" foot soak. It took about three hours.
I started off with the floation. Before floating, you are to take a shower, put on a robe, and go off to the floating tank. I thought there would only be one tank per room, but there's another tank in there as well. I'm sure they time it so that nobody goes in at the same time, but it was kind of awkward thinking someone else was going to walk in on me while undressing or otherwise (no one did). Once in the tank, it was sort of an awkward experience for me. Perhaps it's just my pregnancy, but I couldn't get very comfortable. They provide you with a noodle and neck pillow to help keep your head out of the water. I can see how it would be very soothing though, and maybe it will take a couple of times to get used to it, but I'm not sure I would do it again. My attendant told me when my hour was up she would knock, and I was to knock back. I waited a few seconds and opened the tank, and nobody was there, so I put on my robe and took another shower.
Then it was time for my massage! My massage therapist was Teresa S. She greeted me when I was done with the floating, and brought me into the massage room. Before the massage, I did a 10-15 minute foot soak in very hot water (it could easily be too hot for some, so let them know if it is!) and enjoyed some chocolates and water. She came in later and did a little exfoliating treatment, then let me get undressed and under the covers on the massage table. She provided a long body pillow for side-lying and a pillow for the head, and I was very comfortable. We discussed what was bothering me most, and then she got to work. It was so amazing!! She started off with me on my left side, doing the shoulders, back, buttocks (great for sciatica), legs and feet. Then she had me switch over and she did the other side, then my arms and a final neck/head massage. Lastly, she put very hot towels on my feet (perhaps to clean off some of the oil so as to not slip?).
I'm really glad I indulged in the pregnancy package, although next time I will probably just get an hour long massage, as it was truly the most relaxing and therapeutic part of the morning. Everyone who worked there was pleasant, and you will hear background noises (people walking/talking) during your massage or treatment. There is street parking in front of the building. The pregnancy 101 package is a great deal and I would recommend it to any pregnant lady looking for a real treat :)
(at time of writing I am 28 weeks).
A friend of mine gave me a gift certificate for Spa Package #3 -- a facial, massage, and hot oil scalp treatment. My first-ever facial! All in all, a pretty rad experience.
I was a little sad that I didn't get the chocolates and mimosas Mariko Y. mentioned, but I think that may just be for the Couples Massage Package. It's my own fault for going in there hungry...
First off was the facial. Honestly, never having had one before, I had no idea what to expect. I sort-of envisioned a brightly-lit, clinical room where some lady wearing plastic gloves and a surgical mask would scrub the crap out of my face and squeeze all my pores and I'd come out there looking like I'd been through a sandstorm... but, relaxed, and... uh,... clean. I guess. I'm very happy to report that this was NOT the case! The room was dimly lit and scented and there was some sort of Native American flute music playing. Just like a massage room. There was washing and scrubbing (but softly) and steaming... and yes, some pore squeezing too. But it was all very gentle and soothing and relaxing.
Next stop was the massage. I have to say that my masseuse, Eva, was one of the BEST I've ever had. When I told her I had knots under my shoulder blades, she actually GOT IN THERE and worked every last one out the way they needed to be. One of my biggest pet peeves about some massage places is when you tell your masseuse you like a lot of pressure, and they still just poke and stroke like you're some delicate flower. I want my stuff WORKED, and Eva WORKED ME. It was borderline painful, but that's exactly how I wanted it because it's been nearly a week since then and those knots still haven't returned.
My only complaint? The massage rooms are on the West side of the building, so they share a (very thin) wall with what I guess are A New Spirit's admin offices. There were a couple of ladies on the other side of that wall chitter-chattering and gabbing throughout my whole massage, and I could hear every word they said. Kind of distracting and annoying. Other than that, though... a great experience! And two big, strong, knot-bustin' thumbs-up for Eva!
I love this unassuming little spa. The massages here are amazing! I love, love, love them. If you ask for a deep tissue massage - that is what you get. They really get in there and get all the knots out so be prepared to feel totally spaced out and relaxed when you leave. I also like the detox foot soak. The staff is super friendly and I can usually get an appointment the same day that I call which is very convenient since my schedule is pretty hectic.
You HAVE to try an Ionic Clense (foot bath) - it pulls toxins out of your body through your feet. CRAZY
I finally used a much appreciated gift certificate to treat myself and my friend to a Valentines treat. It was a great deal: a foot bath, hot oil scalp massage, fully body massage, and facial (plus Mimosas and Chocolate from Roberta's nonetheless ((see review))!!)
The lobby and front room are not as luxurious or extravagant as some of the other spas, but they are clean, well lit, and very open rooms. The staff offered us as many beverages as we could hold and were always very friendly and accommodating. The mimosas were pretty good, but they had nothing on the truffles that were acquired from Roberta's chocolates down the street!!! They had the brilliant idea of doing all of the above in one room so we never had to leave or redress which was really convenient.
I enjoyed the massage despite the fact that it went a little further north on my southern end than I am used to. And the facial was pretty great; there were three different masks that were shellacked on and the finishing lotion was refreshing. Honestly, I really wasn't a fan of the hot oil on the scalp. This was mostly due to the fact that we weren't able to shower afterwards, so we came out with disgusting wet looking extremely greasy hair. And on a personal note I don't like head massages, because they kind of remind me of being petted.
You are able to park across the street from the spa without taking up La Cocinita's parking and without having to deal with the two hour limit.
Great day spa just wished they were closer to downtown so I could walk there. They offer a bunch of treatments including detoxes and they are famous for their "floating" capsules. My facial, massage and hydrating hand and foot treawtment were spectacular. It was my first time floating and 1.) I found it a little boring and 2.) I've got enough salt in my ears to start a pretzel factory. Gives "music to my ears" a whole 'nother meaning.

My boyfriend and I went to get massages at New Spirit to start off our vacation. We flew in from San Francisco to visit family in Boulder and Granby, and we thought it would be a perfect way to relax into vacation after we'd both been working super hard.
We each got 1 1/2 hour massages. He had a normal swedish/deep tissue massage, and I had a warm stone massage. The only word for it is HEAVEN! We walked out feeling happy and relaxed and ready to have a great time. Not only were they great massages, but the bill for both massages together was only about $200! Coming from SF, this is an incredibly good deal. And the space has very good feng shui.
The staff was all very sweet, helpful and down to earth.
All around a great experience! I highly recommend it!
I chose New Spirit because I was curious about this "floating" business. Their website proclaims that they are the only flotation center in Colorado, and I wanted to try something new and memorable. So I chose to float for an hour, and then get an hour massage. Here's how it went. (A quick note--I evaluate a spa on not just the quality of the treatments I get, but the whole experience. From the moment I walk in the door, I want the place to drench me in luxury and relaxation. I want sumptuous surroundings, luxurious amenities like towels and robes, and just a general feeling of poshness. It's all in the details. If you've ever been to Bliss Spa or others of similar caliber you know what I'm talking about. They make you feel like the Queen of Sheba.) When I arrived at New Spirit, I was a little disappointed in the building. The spa is located on 29th Street in the Highlands, and posh Cherry Creek it ain't. But undeterred, I entered the building and found the reception area to be reasonably nice. It's not completely oasis-like, but it was clean and bright and smelled of sandalwood incense. I was then taken to their waiting area, which was rather shabby, and after a few minutes I was educated on the finer points of "floating". Floating involves a large domed tub, with a sliding hatch, that's kind of a cross between a tanning bed and and a spaceship. The tub is filled with about 10" of water, laden with Epsom salts. The salinity of the water makes you float with just the tips of your toes, your tummy and your face slightly out of the water. Step 1: get naked and shower. Step 2: get in tub. Step 3: float. It's that simple. If you do a Google search I'm sure you can find a million reasons why floating is great and therapeutic. And I bet there are people out there who are addicted to it. But frankly, I was bored, and couldn't concentrate on anything but the Epsom salts burning away at a small blister on my foot. After an hour, I showered and got a massage. And that's where the real magic happened. The massage rooms were dimly lit and beautifully appointed and my masseuse was really excellent. My hour massage felt like it went on forever as she kneaded away at my knot-riddled body. Overall, the massage was the star of the show here. If you're curious about the floating thing, I'd say try it. It wasn't my thing, but I can see how people could love it. And if you need a massage, $50 for an hour here is well worth it.
