While walking towards downtown I spotted a bunch of sculpture artwork in a little walkway.  Just what were all these great sculptures doing in this crowded area?  This space wasn't doing justice to the artwork.

After admiring several of the huge pieces I spotted a sign for the Sculpturesite Gallery.  Free?  Yup.

I haven't been to many sculpture galleries mainly because there aren't that many; especially in relation to painting galleries.  This place like one big square with the middle being office space.  Similar to the outside presentation, the inside is more of the same.  The quality of artwork is high yet the presentation could be much more improved.

The gallery space feels cramped.  I like to walk around sculpture artwork.  This space does not afford me that option.  I hope they would move into a bigger gallery so that the artwork can really speak to its fullest potential.  That being said, Sculpturesite is more like a docking station for potential buyers.  It's not really a gallery but an art sales house.

Still, this place is free so check it out.

I came across Sculpturesite today, on the way back from a meeting. I guess I had seen some of their art sculptures before, in the outside plaza in front of the gallery, but for some reason never went into the actual interior.

Well like I said, today I did. The pieces on display are all beautiful and stunning. For instance, the current exhibition showcases Pilar Ovalle's dreamy sculptures cut from tree trunks, truly evocative.

I'm not sure whom their typical client is for these works, but prices start out in the $3-10k range. I can imagine some pieces in a large modern home or office building lobby; they really are striking and perfect talking pieces, whether you're an appreciator of fine art or not.

The outdoor pedestrian area where the gallery is located is right by SFMOMA, so it's an easy - if somewhat hidden - visit. In fact, whether you're in the market or just want to check out some world-class sculptures, I'd call it a must-see one as well.

Very modern sculptural pieces....they had a large selection of one-of-a-kind items.  From mid to very high end prices.
