    This place is awesome!

Kim was SOOO helpful with everything! Great service! :)

The cupcakes were divine! I picked some up for my boss's birthday. We got an assortment of the different flavors as well as custom frosting colors and lettering! So cute! I tried the red velvet and loved it! The cake was moist and not overly sweet. The frosting was the best part! Very light and delicious!

I cannot wait to order from them again soon! I hope they open up a storefront sometime soon so everyone can try the great cupcakes!

And the delivery was spot on! they came exactly when I had asked them too! Awesome!

Cool place. Creative cakes and cookies. Prices are something that I don't care for, when you take a better look at their products. Really an art. Try it out.

I have ordered from here twice-first time using a livingsocial deal and the second for my sister's birthday. As with most livingsocial deals, I waited a few weeks to place an order as many businesses can not handle the increase in orders/customers. The first order was delivered with no issues just within the 20 mile limit at no additional cost as mentioned on the livingsocial coupon. I ordered again recently and they delivered to my work with no issues. The decorations seemed more glam this last time-almost too pretty to eat.
The cupcakes were the same quality both times-moist cake without overdoing it with the frosting. I have tried most of the cupcake flavors. You are only able to order 3 flavors at a time so I will have to order once more to try all of them. I saw they have sugar-free options so that is nice! They are pricey but most cupcakes are in the LA area- this really is a place I would only order from on special occasions. The cakes look good as well and I look forward to trying everything they offer.

i ordered the vanilla celebration for my bfs surprise party. He has a major sweet tooth so the pressure was on to find a delicious cake.

Kim was very helpful every step of the way (i dont like cake so i needed a lot of help)

    cake was:
delivered to the bar without a problem
soooooo good - even i had a slice
    everyone had seconds
tasted homey but very elegant still
    beautiful

i wish i had pictures but i didnt have a camera
it was pricey 90 for 1/2 a sheet, im sure its reasonable for other pple but i aint rich!

still despite the price i would order again

As I look back on the prior reviews there is an obvious trend.  Those who used a living social coupon (similar to a groupon) were treated poorly (not called back, late delivery or inability to schedule for a few weeks) and those who paid full price were treated well.  For a place to have such inconsistency in ratings (typically 5's or 1's) is rare.  However, I realized after reading the reviews that Kim is actually VERY CONSISTENT in mistreating those of us who used (or tried to use) a coupon.

Btw, I was told that they would not honor my coupon for delivery because it had expired (and they never returned any of the messages I left for them prior to the expiration date).  So they made me pay $12 for delivery plus tip.

I too would give zero stars if I could.

I was so disappointed in my experience with A Little Piece of Cake.  After trying to use my living social coupon for a dozen cupcakes twice, they finally were able to schedule in a delivery, two weeks later!
I was only able to select three flavors, so I chose chocolate and chocolate, red velvet with cream cheese and vanilla and vanilla. I was underwhelmed by all three. They honestly tasted as if they were from a boxed mix with canned frosting, distinctively sweet and chemically tasting.  Perhaps they were cutting corners on the orders with coupons which seems like very bad business to me.
I can't believe they charge $36 for a dozen of these cupcakes! I could have spent half the money for the same cupcakes at Ralphs and probably would have dealt with nicer people. Will not be ordering from here again.

I called this place TWICE to place an order using my living social coupon.
It's always a voice mail and asked me to leave a message to call me back.
    NO CALL BACK AT ALL.
Don't bother to use this place!!  You never reach them.

I still feel like a kid when I'm around cakes, muffins, cookies, etc. I really support their business, I'm very happy with their service and the amount of friendliness that goes along. I like all sorts of cakes so I'm not a person to compare, but I really love their products. Kids are all over it too. Not to mention my guests that are experienced in baking cakes and cookies. They are amazed too.

I called to see if they could deliver cupcakes to my husband for our anniversary.  I wanted him to get a big box of treats at work, all the way in Commerce.   I was promised delivery of an assortment of 24 cupcakes between 2 and 3:30.  When I called my husband at 3:30, he and his co-workers were happily munching on cupcakes.  He said they were moist and really yummy!  It made his day!

Extra bonus stars on top for delivering on time and delivering happiness!  Service was cheerful and polite over the phone, even though I was making a last-minute request for a long delivery.  The "no problem, we can do it" attitude made for a nice experience.

I once made a similar request from famous "Sweet Lady Jane" and was treated like I had asked the person on the phone to ritually disembowel babies.  I was called "crazy", told "no one could or WOULD do that!" and given the brush off.  The same bakery (probably the same guy) also managed to be jerky enough to make me cry on Valentine's day.  They treat people like the shit that is in thier hearts at that place, seriuosly.

Fame does not make you GOOD, it just means some recognizeable Food Network star got butt-kissed enough to give a good review, or perhaps that someone has a friend with a food radio show.

I'll stick with the skilled, polite and service-oriented non-famous bakeries, thanks.  Their cake has flavor and moisture, they treat their customers as if they value them, and they don't charge a rediculous amount for it.

Thank you Little Piece of Cake, for being a good, honest business with a fabulous product!

Best bakery in Downtown LA and one of the best in LA!!!

My BF from NYC surprised me with an order of 6 mini-cakes for my birthday and it made my day (and week)!

i got three red velvet cakes and three 7-up cakes. the red velvet was super moist and had a perfect cocoa flavor and the cream cheese icing was right on point. the 7-up cake was also delicious, and you could actually taste a hint of 7-up and "fizz" with every bite! this cake was also moist and super refreshing, it wasn't overly heavy at all.

even on day 6, the cakes still tasted extremely fresh and were still moist. this has been my go-to bakery since September and is definitely worth ordering some cakes from!

I did not have a Yelp account prior to this posting, but I felt obligated to sign up after my experience at A Little Piece of Cake.  As a Yelp user, I have always found Yelp to be extremely helpful with suggestions and what not from others that have posted their experiences with certain establishments.

I placed my order on a Tuesday, which was supposed to be delivered on Friday. I made it clear that the order was a gift and had to be delivered by 4PM LATEST.

The cupcakes were promised to be delivered between 1-3PM.

Friday at approximately 12:05PM, I called to ask if my order could be delivered to another address which was literally 4.6 miles away from the initial location, according to google maps.

At 3:40PM, the cupcakes had yet to arrive. I called at 3:45PM to inquire about the delivery and Kim (the owner) told me it was late because of the last minute change of address and promised that it would be delivered before 5PM.

First of all, it was 4.6 miles away.  It does not take 45 minutes to drive 4.6 miles down the street.

It is now 5:30PM. I called once more to inquire about my order.  Kim told me that it would take another 30 minutes.

My order arrived at 6:30PM - three hours and thirty minutes late.

This business does not have a store front - they operate solely on deliveries. I believe that it reflects poorly on their operation when they can't even deliver their products in a timely manner as promised.

To say the least, I was very disappointed in the service. I would never place another order or recommend this business to anyone.

    CORRECTION***

Kim called me today approximately at 2:00PM, Monday, April 19, 2010 to personally express how she felt about my Yelp review.

She stated that the cupcakes were delivered at 5:47PM (not 6:30PM) and I will take her word for it, since I was not the one that had received it.  So to clarify, it was not three hours and thirty minutes late.  It was only two hours and forty seven minutes late.

In addition, YES, I did buy a promotional voucher for half off the price of a dozen cupcakes, and YES, I do feel that I have the right to complain if I see fit .  I did not pay for delivery because part of the promotional offer was free delivery up to a twenty mile radius.  The reason these promotional offers exist is to promote a business - to have consumers test your product.  It is offered at a discounted price to lure customers that would otherwise never try your product.

Finally, Kim had mentioned over the phone that she had done me "a favor" by squeezing me in. The fact of the matter is, I would have been happier if Kim had told me that Friday was booked, instead of trying to fit me in.  I would have been much happier with a promise kept.

I did not write this review to be malicious or cruel, but to be honest and open about my experience.  Hopefully, this review will be an eye-opener to A Little Piece of Cake about accountability and customer service.

it was late august when i started thinking about nacho's birthday.  i wasn't gonna let him go through a day at work without feeling extra special (not special-ed special), so i started digging on yelp (my favorite time kill).    I found A Little Piece of Cake, a Yelp Sponsor (of course).   I thought about having a dozen or two of cupcakes delivered to Nacho's office but needed to see which flavors would do.  So I emailed the business for a menu and if I can buy some to try.  To my surprise, there's no store but Kim was very responsive with answers and sent a sample the next day.

3 whole cupcakes (carrot cake, red velvet and german chocolate) arrived.  I gathered my trusted tasting team, divided up the cupcakes, and asked for their opinion.  Although they all seemed to prefer the german chocolate, they weren't enthusiastic.   One guy just straight-up said that he didn't like any of it.  They being guys mean that their tastebuds would be more similar to Nacho's so it sounded like I needed a new plan for the birthday surprise attack.

Nonetheless, an extra star is deserved since Kim was pretty quick with the emails and generous with the cupcakes.

I hope one day they open up a store so they can get more business.

I had a great experience with A Little Piece of Cake and was thoroughly satisfied with both their customer service and the quality of the cupcakes! I ordered 4 dozen cupcakes using a LivingSocial voucher and did not at all get any sense of being less valued as a customer for using the voucher. I ordered the cupcakes about a week before a birthday party and Kim said she could squeeze me in even though it was going to be a busy delivery day for them. I gave her the option of just delivering the cupcakes the day before, but she was able to have her delivery staff bring the cupcakes on the day of the event at the promised time without any trouble.

I tasted the red velvet cupcake and it was DELICIOUS!  The whipped cream cheese frosting was perfect, and believe me, I'm not a frosting person because I usually find it too dense or too sweet. This was just perfect and it felt so light, I was eating the frosting off of my husband's share as well.  Everyone else at the birthday party was "wow"-ing at their first bite, and the couple next to me who said they were still full from lunch ended up going back for a second cupcake because they were so good!

I did wish the decoration on the top of the cupcakes was a little more creative, but hey, when it tastes that good going into your mouth, all you really care about is having more in your mouth anyhow, so that was just a fleeting thought in the midst of enjoying some amazing deliciousness!

Would totally recommend this and would order again for future events! Or just for me.  :)

Found this place at the Farmers Market at Civic Center on Wednesday in the little area that sells food items - way at the end near the art school. Last week I had their Sour Cream cake, and today the German Chocolate Cake. I asked the guy - and he says they are new here, and are from Sacramento (but came from someplace else - can't remember where) - said his wife makes the items. They are so good!!!

I can't list everything but some items are: Pound Cake, Supreme Lemon Cake, Bacardi Rum Cake, Lemon Pound Cake, Red Velvet, cupcakes, cheesecake, banana pudding - and more. They make cakes for special occassions as well.

We hired Kim and her crew for my sister's engagement party and they did a phenomenal job!

We did a 100 tower of vanilla w choc frosting, choc, red velvet and carrot cake- my fav was the chocolate but by far the crowd fav was the carrot cake.

They were very moist with the perfect amount of frosting.

From start to finish, they were extremely helpful and really did everything they could to not only make the most spectacular presentation but also to make it affordable.

Everyone at the party raved about them and had like 2 each!

I just had a slice of the strawberry cupcake and a slice of the red velvet cupcake.  It's been quite a fatty day for me - 3 pastries and a cookie in the morning!

One of my co-workers decided to order their cupcakes for her last day here with her coupon deal (either Groupon or LivingSocial).  She said the ordering was very easy and they delivered on time.  That's nice.  But I think I prefer being able to walk into a bake shop and being able to pick and choose what I want right then and there.

The cupcakes themselves were okay.  I think my taste buds have become biased by Crumbs' Pistachio Cupcake (which is the best cupcake EVER!).  The Strawberry cupcake was a vanilla cake with strawberry frosting.  The strawberry frosting was very tasty and the cake was not too sweet.  I liked it but I did not love it.  The Red Velvet was too chocolate-y for me and it wasn't as moist as other red velvets.

The size is truly "a little piece of cake" especially compared to all the other gourmet ginormous cupcakes out there.  Their cupcakes are about as big as the cupcakes you find in your local grocery stores which is a good ideal size.  Especially when you've been throwing pastries down your throat all morning.  Nonethless, I believe this will be the one and only time I will eat a cupcake from this place.

    A+ for moist cupcakes
A+ for frosting that isn't sickeningly sweet but delish!
C- for their delivery service (they were 40 mins later than promised)
    B+ for including a candle (though I didn't find it until later-whoops)

Why this place doesn't have an actual storefront is beyond me, but if you aren't in any hurry to get your cupcakes this place isn't bad.

They DEFINITELY care about customer service. Please note that they normally need around 24 hours notice for orders. They did my order on a rush job which was much appreciated.

Pros: Good cupcakes, light whipped frosting, pretty to look at and fairly moist and tasty. Ordinary in size, these are not the big cupcakes some places make, order one per person.

Cons: Late delivery ("traffic") over an hour past the later side of the 2-1/2 hour time range, which is an excessively large range to begin with. Also, the customer service "dropped off" dramatically once they found out I had a voucher from living social deals.

It is very nice to have cupcakes delivered to your event, no hassles with pickup. That being said, if you run a delivery only business, be on time. Period. No excuses. My location is easy to find, and I had an event planned.

Also, don't offer a voucher as an introduction if you don't intend to treat that customer with the same service as other customers. When I called to order, after being asked if I had a voucher suddenly the next available delivery date was 10 days away. (However, I tried a test:  had a friend call, say she did not have a voucher, and delivery was available the next day, so they failed the test.) Too bad, because I bought the voucher to try the business. If the service had been better they would have had a great new client, as I entertain on a large scale for work constantly.

Even so, I might use them again, the cupcakes were good, and as I said, it is nice to have delivery, as long as you don't count on them to honor their delivery time.

I'm currently studying in Europe and I wanted to surprise someone with a cake on their birthday, so I did some research on google and yelp to find a bakery that 1. has delicious cakes, 2. carried a yellow butter cake with buttercream frosting on their menu, and 3. delivers. Luckily, after some digging, I found "A Little Piece of Cake." What a lifesaver! The best thing about this bakery is that they have a diverse menu that's customizable to fit your every occasion. I was able to pick my own cake flavor, frosting, size, decorations, text, delivery time, and even include a personalized notecard all for a very fair price. Kim, the owner, was a pleasure to work with and was always very prompt to reply to my emails and keep an open stream of communication. I am very pleased with her beautiful creations and timely delivery. Thank you for helping me make their day special!

Much like other reviewers, I had no problems at all. I ordered these for my bf just because (= (1 dozen: black tie, red velvet and chocolate on chocolate) and asked they arrive by 3:30 since he's off by 4. They arrived 5 minutes before 3;30, phewwww!

He loved them and so did the rest of his co-workers!!! He saved me one of each flavor and I loved them too. The sweetness of the frosting, the very moist, light and fluffy cake... MmmmmMMmmmmMMmmm, absolutely delish I tell ya!

We're both looking into events where we can order these pieces of heaven. Mothers day, fathers day, cinco de mayo, the dogs birthday, office meeting... Anything. We have to do this once in a while otherwise we would blow up and blame sweet Kim and her cakes.

I took advantage of a Living Social coupon, and regret that I only bought 1.  Big mistake!!!  It was a coupon for $16 for a dozen cupcakes with free delivery.  The cupcakes were beautiful; cake was moist and tasty with just the right amount of frosting.  The frosting was sweet, but not too sweet.  We ordered the vanilla, vanilla strawberry and red velvet cupcakes... we loved them all!  And, they delivered at 9:30 pm just in time for dessert as requested.  Their delivery was the highlight of the party!

I wish I would have bought more of these coupons, but will still purchase the cupcakes at full price.

Yelp is one of my favorite websites, though I'm not much of a reviewer. But I'll have to break that lazy streak to salute this awesome business :) I needed a sweet treat sent to a friend for his birthday recently. After reading the positive reviews here, I called up A Little Piece of Cake and was answered directly by the owner, Kim. I was a little worried I'd be given a hard time for making a same-day order, but had quite the opposite experience with Kim. She was awesome to work with, very positive and thoughtful. My friend received the cupcakes I ordered within hours seemed pretty happy. One of the tests of a good business is how well it can work under time constraints, and this one passes with flying colors!

I had a hair appointment in San Francisco, so I took BART into the city. I had a few minutes to kill, so I decided to go to the Farmers' Market at the Civic Center. I didn't get far, as I noticed a booth on the sidewalk showcasing a table laden with cakes and cupcakes. Of course, my piggy-ass went straight to it to see what was available. I saw the red velvet cupcakes and was in heaven...I wanted them so bad - two to a container - that I didn't even haggle over the price...I paid $5.00 for two cupcakes!
Kim McGhee Presents A Little Piece of Cake is based out of San Jose, but sell their delectable desserts at farmers' markets, fairs, etc. around the Bay Area. They make absolutely orgasmic-producing cakes made from scratch with all fresh ingredients -  there are 16 different varieties to chose from. They specialize in cakes, cupcakes, and mini-samplers. They can be a bit pricey, but are worth it. They do make deliveries around the Bay Area, so give them a call and have a flyer sent to you - you won't regret it!
About those cupcakes...I made sure to hide them from my hairdresser so I wouldn't feel like I had to share...once I got home, I ate one...it was so divine that I also ate the other one straight away...so much for saving it for the next day. I AM a piggy.

I am incredibly unhappy with the level of customer service A Little Piece of Cake has demonstrated over the last two days. I would give them zero stars if I could, but this bakery fails at life too much already.

And p.s., this one star is not even for the cupcakes because I have yet to taste them. Why, you ask? Because Kim McGhee is probably the most irresponsible business owner on the planet.

I emailed A Little Piece of Cake nearly three weeks ago to order a dozen cupcakes and was told they were fully booked and the earliest date available would be May 3. I complied and waited until May 3, with the full expectation that my order was going to be delivered between 10 am and 4 pm as previously agreed upon based on the email conversations I had with Kim McGhee herself. May 3, 4 pm, comes. May 3, 4 pm, goes. So on May 3 at 4:30 pm, I give them a call and luckily, Ms. McGhee herself answers.

And what did she have to say? "Oh, you're booked for May 4."

Actually, NO, I am NOT booked for May 4. Ms. McGhee then proceeds to lecture me on the importance of talking to a real person over the phone so I can be sure that my order will be placed correctly. Apparently, when it comes to emails, the person answering them is NOT real. After several minutes of asking how they can rectify this situation (responses included: Well, tell the person who's expecting them today that they have to wait tomorrow), I finally ask for the owner or a manager. She then asks me to call back the next day and ask for Anthony Johnson.

8 am on May 4, I call again. This time I ask for Anthony Johnson and I get the runaround. AGAIN. When I ask if they can at least guarantee me a time so I don't have to rearrange my schedule to be in the office the entire day, he says they're very busy and will NOT be able to guarantee a time, but can assure me that the product will be delivered before 4 pm.

My experience has been nothing short of ridiculous and while I'm glad that other Yelpers have had no problems, sadly, I am not one of them. It all boils down to one element: if a business ONLY offers delivery, then they better DELIVER.

This is the saddest failure of them all: cupcake FAIL. Next time, I will take my hard-earned money, drive to Albertsons, bake a dozen cupcakes, and deliver them to the office MYSELF.

AGAIN...THE DISAPPOINTMENT CONTINUES! I was just informed that A Little Piece of Cake will actually not be delivering my cupcakes AT ALL and I will need to request a refund through http://livingsocial.com where I originally purchased TWO vouchers. This is absolutely terrible. IF YOU WANT RELIABLE SERVICE, DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS BAKERY.

My friend Brandon A. was so thoughtful and purchased a voucher from them for a  dozen cupcakes, a perfect thing to bring to a memorial day bbq!  Since they only delivered 20 miles and my place was 5 miles beyond, they just tacked on an extra $5 and I also included the driver's gratuity in my final cost.  We got the red velvet, chocolate with strawberry icing and vanilla/vanilla.  The delivery was perfectly on time, I refrigerated them overnight and we ate them the next day, they stayed fresh, but I don't think their cupcakes taste as good as Sprinkles or Frosted.  I probably won't order from them again unless they improve the recipe.  But the service was absolutely professional and trustworthy.

I ordered assorted cupcakes for delivery.  Cupcakes were divine!  The cake is super moist, the frosting is just the right amount of sweetness and thickness.  Absolutely sinfully good.  Delivery was before 11am as requested.

Simply the best red velvet cupcake I've ever had. EVER.

The cake is moist with a subtle flavor and the best part is the cream cheese frosting that was obviously whipped by angels on high. Light and airy, it's out of this world.

Unfortunately, when I talked to the guy at the stand yesterday, he said that this was going to be his last appearance at the Farmers Market. Though he'd been there about 8 months and dearly loved his customers, he and his wife are moving to LA to take care of his wife's mother who has taken a turn for the worst while battling cancer.

Apparently they are going to try a mail order system. I put my name and email address on a list and will hopefully hear from them soon.

The Civic Center Farmer's Market won't be the same without him and his simple stand with delicious bakery goodies...

They do not honor their commitments. After ordering and paying for a voucher from http://livingsocial.com for a dozen coupons in April, I have attempted to take delivery of the cupcakes at least 3 times from them. They always claim that they do not have slots available to make the delivery. One time I even went about the order without mentioning the voucher and shockingly they had availability to make the delivery UNTIL I said that I wanted to use my voucher. I believe this company is taking advantage of the customers and hoping that people will give them free money by continually denying available slots untill the voucher expires in mid October.

Very bad karma from a bakery I really wanted to like.  Just terrible business people.

I just want to say thank you "A Little Piece Of Cake" for making my Daughter's birthday so special!!!!  I ordered a red velvet birthday cake to be delivered to my daughter on her birthday.   I live in Northern California and was unable to spend her birthday with her.  The woman that I spoke to on the phone was wonderful and said that she would make sure it would be special.  Not only did the cake look beautiful, my daughter said it was by far the BEST red velvet cake she ever had!! Thank You, Thank, Thank You!!!!!! :)

I found the cake spongy, almost chewy, and unappealing.  It's still a cupcake, so I can't give it one star, but I wouldn't pay money for another.  I'd rather buy a box mix and whip some up at home.  :'(

They no longer sell cupcakes at the Civic Center Farmer's Market.  I came here to pick up cupcakes for a friend's b-day and they weren't there.  I was told they're no longer participating in the farmer's market.

My second time buying from the gentleman today. Great cakes & cupcakes, albeit a little pricier than one would initially think for a cupcake or mini cake but they are really good. They do offer a small sample to win you over. I recommend stopping by for a little treat or reward for yourself.

This bakery should be named "A Little Piece of Heaven"!!!  I literally ordered Kim's fabulous yellow cake and chocolate cupcakes as well as a dozen of her reduced sugar cupcakes, at the last minute, on the same day of our family party (The day before Mother's Day). She did tell me that she had a lot of business that day, but when I explained to her that I wanted to give my grandma who is a diabetic and was just diagnosed with stomach cancer, a special treat for Mothers day, she  was happy to accomodate my request.  Needless to say the cupcakes were a hit! My parents who are both diabetic ate theirs in 3 bites!  I was also very impressed with Kim's professionalism! I would highly recommend this company to any of my friends, colleagues, and family.
