I coordinated a wedding in which Esther Yoo was the makeup artist. She was the perfect person to have on that day! She arrived a few minutes early and completed hair and makeup on the bride and mothers exactly on schedule (I love an artist who can stick to the timeline!). Her warm, calming presence didn't allow for any pre-wedding nerves in the room, and she was patient and attentive to all her clients' preferences. The clients asked for subtle, natural beauty, and Esther delivered it wonderfully.
Not only did Esther make the bride look radiant, she also took the time to show me the best way to do hair and makeup touchups so that the bride could continue to look perfect for the whole event. Esther was an absolute pleasure to work with! -

LilyAnn: Best make up artist ever!!!
She did my makeup for senior prom and I came in without even knowing what I wanted because I, myself, do not wear make-up. However, I showed her a picture of my dress and gave her the brief overview of what I wanted, such as something more natural as opposed to dramatic. From there, she worked her magic and did my hair and make up. It took about 2 hours, but she is precise with her work and pays attention to every detail, which is great.
At prom, I kept receiving compliments on how amazing I looked and my friends kept asking where I got my hair and make-up done. My friends didn't even know that I had foundation on until they saw it on the makeup remover sheet. Yes, it looked that natural. LilyAnn is fun to work with and it's obvious she is passionate about her work.
I would definitely recommend LilyAnn for any occasion. -

I am very glad I found Kathy Ly. I scheduled a hair/makeup trial with Kathy. She was very friendly, easy to work with, professional and had great suggestions. She first asked me what style of hair/makeup I had in mind, but I was more comfortable with her ideas. Afterall, she is a professional. :)
Since I have fine, thinning hair, she suggested an up-do with hair curled and placed to the side (so the hairdo can be seen when photographed from the front). The final touch was my wedding veil and a flower that was artfully placed and secured. The look was fabulous! She made my hair look fuller and very beautiful! The make-up was fantastic too! It definitely made me look glamorous.
After the trial appointment with Kathy, I was confident that she would do a great job for my wedding party and I. I placed a deposit and scheduled her for my wedding day.
Wedding Day:
It was rainy on the of our wedding, so our photographer asked us to move up our schedule to take advantage of "better" weather earlier in the day. With not much notice, Kathy Ly agreed to move our appointment up a little earlier than scheduled. She was very understanding and so accommodating! She showed up and started right away. She was patient and had great attention to detail. Since I had already had the trial hair/makeup with her, I was very relaxed and confident of her work.
She did an excellent job! I highly recommend hiring Kathy Ly for your hair and make-up needs. Kathy is clearly a very skilled professional. And also very easy to get a hold of. I was able to reach her immediately by email, phone and text. She made my wedding day a whole lot smoother and a little less stressful.

Makeup artist LilyAnn did my hair and makeup as part of a makeover. She came "on-time" at 730AM to my house, which is incredible. She was totally friendly, detail-oriented with her work, listened to my feedback and has a great eye for beauty. I wore my new makeup and hair to my son's first birthday and got great compliments on it.

I had Kathy as my makeup artist for a wedding/family reunion a few months back. Although she's a pretty nice person my rating is for the unfortunate job she did on my makeup and hair.
-I brought with me the dress I would be wearing to the wedding so that she could suggest a hair or makeup style that would compliment the style of dress (and so she could understand that the wedding was more outdoor casual sun-dressy) but she wouldn't look at the dress at all.
-She applied makeup as if she uses the same colors and methods for every single person regardless of what occasion the makeup is for and regardless of the shape and skin color of each individual face. That would explain the Kabuki foundation and powder caked on my face I guess =/
-As for hair I told her "loosely up" and asked for her suggestions but she wanted to know exactly what part of hair she should put up and what part she should let down. Now If I knew how to do all that I would've just done it myself.
After she was done, I tried unsuccessfully to explain why it was all so completely bad and I didn't even know how to begin having her correct it. So I just gave up and went to the wedding looking like the not hot version of Adam Lambert in concert. -

LilyAnn: Great MUA to work with and highly recommend

Kat is an AMAZING make up artist with an AWESOME attitude. Her professional but relaxed demeanor made me feel comfortable and composed. She worked quickly and made small talk to keep the mood up. At our shoots she had wonderful input and knew exactly how to keep a smile on my face. Her make up skills are impeccable and she's my go-to-girl for ALL of my shoots!! She is very versatile and creative with her make up but can follow more restrictions if necessary while still being able to make it her own. This review is for Emily Nguyen. On several recommendations my bride-to-be friend booked Emily for a trial. I was part of the bridal party and was close to my friend throughout her whole wedding planning. Naturally, I was there with her during her consultation and trial with Emily. My friend was so satisfied at her trial. Emily was very attentive to my friend's requests and offered suggestions and was completely thorough and carried out what my friend wanted. Her make up looked gorgeous and natural, like any bride's should be, and her hair was immaculate and classy. Needless to say, my friend found her makeup artist!
On the big day, which started at 5am for us, Emily arrived with 20 minutes to spare and she started working on my friend. It was a hectic morning for the whole bridal party, but she managed to keep us all calm and had us all ready with plenty of time to spare. Her assistant did my makeup and I was very happy with the outcome. As for my friend, of course, she turned out as she did in her trial, but perhaps more beautiful!! Her makeup, hair, accessories and gown put together made her look like the stunning bride she is. I was so happy for her!
There may be many talented makeup artists out there, but there is a big difference with Emily, I feel like. She is professional, punctual, and she definitely knows her art. However, the big plus with Emily is her personality. Her overall persona and friendliness with my friend and the whole bridal party made a stressful event a very happy and calming one. She's very easy to talk to and connected well with my friend. She knew how to keep things enjoyable, but also kept her professionalism as well. We both respected this very much!
Emily was surely a godsend for my friend. My friend constantly looks at her wedding photos and cannot believe how amazing and beautiful she looks! A wedding day is one of the most important days of your life, if not the most! On this day, you should look, feel, and BE beautiful, and thanks to Emily of Alist Makeup, she made sure that that happened. LiAnn is awesome. She did my hair and makeup for my wedding on March 24th and also did makeup for one of my bridesmaids. She had to come early (6am) and she was right on time and ready to start within a few minutes. She made me look and feel beautiful. I danced every song at the reception and I was really sweating so I thought for sure that my makeup was ruined but it stayed the whole 6 hours. LiAnn even gave me some lipstick for any touchups which was all I needed anyway. I'm so happy I chose her. -

This review is for Emily. Emily did my hair and makeup for my wedding in October and she was amazing! She is incredibly sweet and friendly and her work is great! She is a focused and hard worker and it shows with the end results.
I was so impressed with Emily. She came early to set up and her and her partner did my hair and makeup and hair for about 10 other girls and they did it all with time to spare - we didn't feel rushed at all!

My trial with Emily went amazing. Before the trial, Emily carefully listened to what I wanted and provided great recommendations for my hair and makeup. During the trial, I was looking at myself through the mirror and I realized how talented she is!
I knew right away, she was the one!
The night before my wedding, I caught up a horrible cold and seriously looked ill. After her touch, I became the bride that I always dreamed of. The dark circles under my eyes disappeared and my face color became bright. My fluffy hair become the hair you see in the wedding magazines - silky and beautiful. Her professional work and calming personality lead to one less thing to worry about on my wedding.
During the reception, regardless of my cold, I danced all night, and my hair and makeup were still the same as the first minute after she finished. Amazing!
I cannot find the words to thank Emily. She made me look amazing on my special day.

A-List Makeup is an outstanding school to obtain your skills and knowledge in makeup and hair designs, especially for those of you who aspire to become a successful makeup artist and hair styles in the bridal, editorial, and fashion industries.
Ann Ho is an awesome instructor, she truly cares about the success of her students as well as teaching the latest techniques in makeup and hair designs. The school provides photoshoot opportunities and wedding gigs.

This review is for LilyAnn. She was my hero for my engagement shoot. The Hair/MUA I booked for the shoot canceled on me last minute because of a family emergency. I called LilyAnn and not only was she happy to accommodate me with such little notice, she went above and beyond my expectations. LilyAnn attentively listens to what you want and any skin insecurities you may have. I guess I was pickier with hair/makeup than I thought I would be. She graciously listened and made sure I was happy with the hair/makeup. I wanted to look natural for my engagement shoot and she executed it flawlessly. I got a ton of compliments from strangers. This is a review for Emily Nguyen. I'm currently living in Orange County but a few months ago, I came up to San Jose for a photo shoot. Fortunately, Emily was available to doll me up on that day and I was so impressed with both the hair & make-up. I've worked with many make-up artists, hair stylists before but I think she performed the best job ever. As in my photo shoot, she gave me a very beautiful and natural makeover and I loved it. The best part of all, she's such a sweet and caring person. She even stayed at the studio the whole time to touch me up and made sure I look perfect in my pictures.

A-List Makeup is an excellent school choice for those of you who aspire to become wedding makeup artists! Several years ago, I went to another makeup school, hoping to improve my makeup and hair skills, but in the end, it was a big disappointment. That school (which I won't mention here) did not give me what I needed most: different techniques!
The instructor for A-List (and also the founder) Ann Ho provides you with photoshoot opportunities and wedding gigs. Being on the team has really helped me to grow as a business and as an individual. A-List girls are great at what they do because of a wonderful instructor who really teaches them to be better!

This review is for the A-List Makeup School. With a true passion for makeup, I was introduced to this school through owner and instructor, Ann Ho. Not only has she helped me enhance my skills with makeup, but I have also started to truly love hair (keep in mind that I have never done anyone's hair and I barely started to learn how to curl my own hair less than a year ago)!
The courses are fun and filled with various hair and makeup techniques that we learn to apply for specific occasions and looks. In addition, Ann also helps with portfolio building for those who join the team and take the classes.

I hired Esther recently for my March wedding, and she did an amazing job! She agreed to do light make up applications for my 2 bridesmaids, and my mom, full make up and hair for my officiant, and full make up and hair for me. To make sure she had time to do everyone, she arrived at 9am, and stayed until 2pm!! She had extra time before the photographers arrived for shots, so she re-touched up everyone's make up, and even helped fix my mom's and sister's hair, even though that wasn't originally agreed on.
As for the make up, she did a wonderful job. I don't usually wear any, and I think everyone thought I still looked like me, just gussied up! It stayed on all day and night (and she provides you with some lip gloss to reapply during the night), and my hair didn't move at all, despite dancing on the dance floor and cramming myself into the photobooth all night.
Esther provides her services at a great price point for the quality and work she provides and expects to deliver to her clients. She's incredibly sweet and friendly, and will definitely work with you to achieve the look you're looking for. I highly recommend her!! -

I've been inspired with makeup for years and didn't know where to learn hair styling and makeup properly. Many of my friends went to different beauty schools but all of them were disappointed with what they'd learn. Luckily, I found A-list makeup on Yelp and wanted to give it a try. Im glad I made a right decision. Ann Ho, A-list makeup founder, is an excellent instructor. I've learn a lot from her and don't wanna miss every single day of class :)

This review is for Esther Yoo from A-list. She did my wedding makeup on 10/1011 and it turned out perfect. I did not realize hoe stressful picking a makeup artist could be but when I met with esther initially we had a consult about looks and colors I typically wear and she took over from there.
I told her the test would be the reaction from my fiance at the time when I went home after the trial and he loved it too so I knew it was winner! On the day of we had 4 other girls getting makeup and they all looked beautiful. I highly recommend Esther if you are looking for a way to feel like you look natural with a little bit of extra oompf!

I've worked with LiAnn Li, Cheryl Lam, LilyAnn Nguyen and Becky Lau so far, and I can't recommend these ladies more highly. Whenever I've been in a bind or needed a makeup artist and hair person, last minute, on set, A-list makeup has been the answer. I've worked with several on the "list" and am more than happy to say that Penney Do, Van Pham and others are, hands down, the best i've worked with! I've seen what they can do, not only for my work, but for brides and pageant contestants, as well. Superior results and repeat/return customers stand as a testament to Ann's attention to detail, shear love for what she does, and quality that shows in the team she trains. Kudos!!

I have to commend A-List Makeup for such a pleasant experience all around. Wedding planning is stressful enough as it is, but I never had to worry about how and what I was going to look like on my wedding day.
I initially had my trial done with Van Pham (love her!!!), and it was no one's fault but my own; I waited too long to book her, and as it turned out Van had already booked another client for my wedding day. Van pulled some strings for me and got me in touch with Emily Nguyen who was still available for my wedding day. I immediately went in for a trial with Emily and was blown away with her talent! She was very attentive to my needs, and incredibly easy to work with. She gave excellent recommendations which I welcomed since I could tell she knew what she was talking about.
The big day finally came - Emily was punctual, professional, and got me beautified in the allotted time schedule I gave her. I received numerous compliments from friends and family members about how I glowed that day. My bridesmaids were shocked about how well my make-up held up even though I didn't go the airbrush route. I felt that I had just enough color on my face without looking overdone, but showed up well in photos.
I highly recommend Emily Nguyen as your MUA - you will not be disappointed! ;) -

2) She tries their best to make you feel comfortable and give me good suggestions. I am not usually wear makeup, so I rely on Emily for the colors of makeup.

Esther Yoo, you are fantastic! The first time I met Esther, she was all smiles, and she asked questions to understand what my preferences were. She was the obvious choice for me for my engagement and wedding day hair. She is personable, professional and friendly. I was looking for natural waves for my engagement shoot and for the wedding day, we did several trials to come up with my smoothed half-up do. Esther is hard working, meticulous and very fairly priced.
She was not satisfied with the result of the waves that she put in for my engagement photos when she saw them in the pictures, and offered a free trial session and to waive the costs for my engagement hair session. She was too hard on herself! To further my point of how hard working she is, she came early on my wedding day to work on my bridesmaids, both moms, and about 3 of my aunts, and myself ... she was quietly working her magic on different hair styles and lengths and the photos look great.
Thank you Esther for making us all feel pretty and for understanding "Moufasa" hair! :) -

I've worked with Emily twice already, for two different occasions, one being my engagement party. She is so awesome and talented!
I found A-List Makeup on Yelp. I really needed a makeup person last minute and since they have so many people, I was able to find someone available for my event.
I read Emily's profile and she seemed perfect so I went with her. So glad that I did. The first time we worked together, I went to her place and she had her own little room filled with her equipment. During the whole process, we talked as if we had known each other for years. She is just so friendly. You can't help, but see her as one of your girlfriends. At the end of the makeup session, I was very happy! It turned out perfect! Just how I wanted it!
I loved her work so much that I booked her six months later for my engagement party. Again, she did perfect and finished early so I didn't have to worry about anything. She brought an assistant to help which made the process go a lot quicker.
You can tell when makeup is done right, the person's face doesn't look like a Japanese geisha in both high def or regular digital pictures. She blended the makeup so well and knew what I was looking for. First something drastic, and then something more natural.
Her prices are so reasonable and she is young so she knows the latest looks and styles. I'm looking to book her for my wedding, because she's just that good. -

Nini was amazing!! This past Sunday, I was going to a wedding (an Indian one in San Jose). It started pretty early, at 10:30 am, and since I was a bridesmaid, I had to be there at 930 am sharp. After doing a ton of research, 5 of us bridesmaids decided to get our hair/makeup done by Nini, and it was well worth our money.
She came with an assistant to one of our houses in Fremont and started at 6 am sharp and was on time. She had told me it would take her the full 3 hours from 6 am to 9 am to do 5 girls' hair/makeup. Everything went great. Her assistant was mostly doing the makeup while she did hair - the makeup was EXCELLENT. They were easily able to do our eyes in such a way that complimented everyone's face - for example, I told her beforehand that I look terrible with smokey eyes, and she was able to do something else which ended up turning out great. By the way, all 5 of us are Indian, and they were easily able to cater to our skin tone and different eye shapes.
Nini did my hair first, and I wasn't completely satisfied because it looked a little flat, and I asked her to redo it, and it turned out fabulously. Both Nini and her assistant were so calm and accommodating. They were very receptive to our feedback, and if someone didn't particularly like something, they changed it without any complaints. They even worked a little past 9 am and we didn't get charged extra. I would totally use Nini again because she was so easy to work with, and I literally have nothing negative to say.
The bride was so happy with the way we looked and we were able to keep our hair/makeup on for the entire day (wedding + reception that went until 2 am that day, so we pretty much had hair/makeup on for 16 hours!) Thank you Nini!! you're awesome :) -

Aside from his obvious talent, he is a pleasure to be around. He is meticulous, real, fun, driven and relatable. He understands how a camera is going to pick up the colors and light reflected off a face, and how to tastefully contour and shade.
On my big day, it was nice knowing that everything was in good hands. He brought his team 30 miles north over to my friends' home at a very early hour. They did hair and makeup for me, four bridesmaids, my mother, and 3 of my female relatives with speed, creativity, and flexibility while my wedding photographer documented the whole thing. Everyone loved him, and he did a wonderful job - I got so many compliments and not once did I have to worry about my makeup. Aside from lipstick touch-ups (which he provided for), the only time my makeup came off - eyeliner, eyelashes and all - was when I removed it at the end of the night, some 14 hours later.
Did I mention the price point is not bad for such a talented person in the Bay Area? Better book him while you can, because he is a hot commodity!
I would definitely ask Kevin to do my hair and makeup again. -

Nina Duong is fantastic!
Aside from being very talented at what she does, she is so patient and really listens to what you want. On the day of our trial run, she took her time and tried a couple of different styles on me.
She did a great job on my wedding day. I don't know how she did it, but my makeup lasted all day! From 1:00 pm, through pictures, the ceremony 3 hours later, and dancing for 4 hours until 11:00 pm. I only had to touch up my lipstick one time but that was it.
She is very professional and punctual - which is so important when you are getting ready for your event, and just overall a pleasure to work with.
You can tell she really has a passion for what she does. She is a true artist. I full heartedly recommend Nina. -

I have a tight budget and Nina Duong's pricing fit right in. She did a fabulous job on my wedding day!!! She is super friendly, reliable and so easy to work with!!! Tell her any style you want and she'll be able to do the same!!! I was skeptical at first but after the trial, i know i would definitely want her to do my hair & makeup for my wedding. Without a doubt, she didn't fail me. She is super prompt. She said she'll come at 5am and sure enough, i was in front of my house at 5am. =D For the great price, how could you go wrong? I choose A-List makeup for my wedding because they have a huge network of talented makeup artist. When I contacted them, Kathy responded to my inquiry right away and provided me with her portfolio. I was amazed with her work and how beautiful she made everyone look. When I scheduled a trail run with Kathy she listened to the type of design and style I wanted my makeup and hair to look like. She duplicated the hairstyle that I showed her from the magazine with ease; like it was her own creation. She also closely matched the makeup color to my skin tone without making me look like a ghost. What amazes me is that she has good memory and remembered the little details that we talked about.
I have a big bridal party of 7 bridesmaid, 2 mothers, a flower girl and an additional guest to get their hair and makeup done. Kathy made the arrangements with 3 other MUAs and ensured that she and her team was at the site on time. What a relief that felt to me! My wedding was in Santa Cruz and they were there promptly at 11am. Kathy and everyone finished on time within 3 hours and made everyone so pretty. Additionally, my bridesmaids were on a tight budget and Kathy worked with us on finding the best MUAs for our budget.
Kathy is an angel! She did an amazing job transforming me into a beautiful bride and was great to work with. I really enjoyed working with Kathy because she is very professional, responsive, efficient, accommodating, and talented. I would definitely recommend Kathy and her team to family and friends. This review is for A-list Makeup school. I recommend this school for anyone who wants to learn practical techniques in hopes of making makeup/ hair artistry a career, or for someone who wants to learn new skills. Ann Ho teaches techniques for all different eye shapes and skin tones, so that the artists will be trained to work on all persons. She also provides opportunity to build portfolios and to gain experience out in the field, which is extremely helpful!
One great aspects of A-list Makeup, is that price range varies depending on the artist, and their experience, thus there will be a perfect fit for anyone in search of services. A-list is the go-to place for anyone who has an event in their life, and who needs makeup/hair. kevin truong is great!! i love his work and he really listens to his clients. he is accommodating to your schedule and will go out of his way to help you. not only on event day but also before to make sure your outfit/accessories are on point. he definitely cares about his clients and helps you look your best. did i also mention that he designs fabulous ao dais too?! so talented! thanks kevin for all your help :)

I have so many great things to say about this class!
First off, I always had a passion for makeup and hair styling but I did not know where to start. I can easily apply to a cosmetology school, but I really wanted to focus on makeup and updos. I wanted actual techniques. My friend then told me about Ann(my amazing instructor) and her A-list team. I did some research and without hesitating I took the class!
I learned so much in the class! I wish the class didn't end for me because I actually looked forward going to Milpitas everyday! I live in San Francisco and I usually go to Milpitas during rush hour but I still looked forward to coming to class!
A-list is also a certified school. You have options to what you want to learn. If you joined the professional team like me, this is what you'll get
Makeup: how to apply airbrush foundation, traditional foundation, concealing, skin tone matching, eyebrow grooming/shaping/ filling, applying false lashes, contouring,blush, different eyeshadow techniques(also eyeshadow for monolids), eyeliner, mascara... etc basically everything you'll need to know.
Hair: how to use different styling tools, curling, teasing, different types of updos, hairspray and styling, how to work with different types of hair
Whats also amazing about the class is that the class size is small, so you will get the individual attention that you need to achieve the skill. Also, you get to work at your own pace!
Ann also offer workshops too! And if you are a part of the team, she'll give you opportunities to build your portfolio by referrals to special events, assisting is weddings, doing actual weddings, and many more. =)
