loved it!!! we got the effeciency and it was perfect! clean room, everything you need, and comfortable bed. They were great to give us new sheets when we asked, as the sand was finding its way in the bed. That's the beach for you!
We loved that they had recycling and the owner told us they do not get pick up but take it to the place. That was really nice. We loved the grounds. Very sweet!! great location. We will definately go back!!!! -

Great place to stay with a dog. They gave us towels, bowls and treats for her and the room had lots of hard, nonporous surfaces. The price was pretty reasonable and it was a funky, fun place.
The room was by the street, but the window unit drowned out all other noise. I think the a/c, ceiling fan and moulding could use a bit of cleaning, as my companion developed a terrible scratchy throat that almost instantaneously cleared up upon leaving town. Otherwise, the room was clean (the first day). Since there is no house cleaning, there got to be more and more sand on the floor. It was not possible to get out of the shower and have clean feet because the floor was so sandy. I know it's the beach, but I can't imagine what a week would be like there. There were lots of towels and soap provided, but no shampoo. Be sure to bring your own unless you like the stringy look I'm now sporting. The bed seemed to be a weird foam thing (not tempurpedic kinda foam), but was strangely comfortable.
The desk lady was super friendly and helpful. Each room has a little outdoor seating area, which is nice, even though ours overlooked the driveway. I would recommend the place, just know what you're getting into and be prepared. Bring slippers or flip flops to wear inside and shampoo. Good location. -

Laughing Horse Lodge was my go-to place in Port A for many years. I love a dog-friendly place because my dogs love the beach so much. I love the kitschy mid-century vibe there, too.
Unfortunately, last time we stayed a couple of years ago, they beds were rock hard and my partner and I both left in a lot of pain. We mentioned it to management on the way out (the management is very friendly) and they told us they had some sort of mattress topper to try out for next time.
Sadly after that uncomfortable weekend, we haven't been back, but I would give it another chance. -

My wife found this place in the back of Texas Monthly, and loved how dog-friendly it claimed to be. Upon our arrival, Candy was very helpful, and explained everything we needed to know...for us and our dog. They offered dog treats, dog bowls, dog towels, poop bags, dog-washing areas....and the rooms were concrete floors, so very easy to sweep up the sand from our dog and (our feet). The bed was comfortable, the fridge and freezer worked great, we had a small oven and stove, which worked great when we cooked fresh Red Snapper.
Keep in mind, it is a dog-accommodating motel. Its priced accordingly. You are expected to take out your own trash, and do your own dishes. They offer the service, but I believe you pay about $50 for it. None of that bothered us, as it feels more like you are renting a small house, rather than a hotel or motel.
The lodge is just a few blocks from the beach, but we chose to drive down the beach a mile or so. I highly suggest you do this, because you can let your dog off the leash down that way.
Candy made great suggestions for meals, seafood, and entertainment. My wife and I enjoyed spending our two-year anniversary here, as did our furry kid, Marley. We will certainly return! -

My boyfriend and I just went to Port Aransas this past weekend and stayed at the Laughing Horse Lodge. We loved it! We took our 2 dogs and the place was so dog friendly! They have thought of everything there, they have dog bowls, dog bags, treats... Places to wash the dogs after swimming were great too! Im pretty sure the dogs enjoyed their trip also. The place is a little dated, but also thats what gives it the beach feeling. We really enjoyed sitting out on the front porch in the morning planning our day. We could walk just about anywhere too! We will be back!! Also walk across the street to "The parot, The Peg and The Patch" Its a small place with out door seating I had the best blacked Mahi sandwich, and my boyfriend really liked his burger.
Thank you Laughing Horse! -

I'd never been to Port A so I wasn't sure what to expect when it came to lodging. I checked out http://TripAdvisor.com and read some scary reviews about other places in the area and was nervous about what my lodging situation might be like. However, my friend and travel companion, Yasmine A, had made the trip to Port A before and had stayed at the Laughing Horse and she did not hesitate to suggest it for this trip.
Sure enough, the place was cute. Pastels on the outsides of the buildings as well as in the interior, just what I would expect from a seaside crib. The staff was nice, the room was clean and well furnished and the AC (our unit had central AC) was blasting cold air the entire time. Oh, and they're very pet friendly. Also, the place is only two blocks away from the ocean, a few blocks away from a gas station (in case you forgot anything crucial) and very close to Allister St where you'll find lots of shops, bars, and restaurants.
On the way home I realized that I had left my phone charger in the room. Sandy at the front desk told me she'd call me back in a few hours after the cleaning crew had checked out the room. Well, she called me back today to say that it was found and I was prepared to schedule a pick up from FedEx and pay for the shipping. But, she said she'd drop it in the mail for me! And she even called me kiddo. I wanna give Sandy a big hug, but I'm hoping that a five-star review will suffice for now. -

I've stayed here a number of times over the years, and little has changed about A Laughing Horse Lodge. On the plus side, it's an easy walk to the beach, an easy walk to some of the local shopping pursuits (if you need a new bathing suit or beach related accoutrements), easy enough to find, and it's dog friendly if you choose to bring yours along.
My hound had her vacay privliges revoked recently so she didn't make the trip, but in her stead we found our room comfortable and consistent with prior experiences, and more akin to a camping style with some pesudo-industrial corrugated metal and indian touches. I will say that the bed was super comfortable and though each room doesn't have central air (window units), the place stayed cool which was a major help when the muggy-o-meter is off the charts and the mosquitoes are thick as thieves.
It wouldn't be beyond the realm of possibility that we'd stay here again (the staff, it's worth noting, was super sweet), but it's not the same as stretching out in one of the newer, more luxurious digs available for rent, either.Listed in: Hotels

The staff here was amazingly friendly.
I originally chose this place because it seemed so dog friendly. My pups aren't the yippy 'under 20 lbs' types, so it can be tough to find a place to stay with them. I would stay here again any time. The rooms were simple, but comfortable. The location was perfect. A short walk to the beach, or restaurants and bars. I loved the laid back atmosphere and the friendly owners! -

I still hate the freakin' cricket that kept me up nearly all night at the Laughing Horse Lodge, but I take solace in the species' short life span. Ha-ha cricket, you're dead.
Cute little bungalows with somewhat odd industrial accents close to the sometimes beautiful Port Aransas beaches. The management is dog-friendly, but you might call ahead for weight/breed restrictions. I think kids would have a good time at this place, although the floors are stained concrete so toddlers and clumsy kids beware.Listed in: Beachslap

This is a great find. We've been coming here every year for the last 4 years and love it. It is a mecca for dog owners. What better way to spend the weekend than hanging out on the beach with your four legged best friend?
The hotel is kind of funky and basic. The room decor changes every year and is best described as 50s kitsch. All the rooms have kitchens and some of the rooms are now centrally air conditioned. Each room has small outside sitting area with a couple of chairs and a small grill.
The folks who manage the place are very friendly and will help you with any reasonable request.
I highly recommend it if you are planning a visit with a pooch or two.
BTW., it is a good place to bring kids. Yes, the floors are painted concrete but that hasn't really discouraged my toddler from having a great time. -

Had a wonderful experience with my girlfriends at A Laughing Horse Lodge! The room was clean and adorable, our kitchenette was stocked with cooking supplies, and the management was easy going, warm and helpful. The location of Laughing Horse is fantastic, two blocks from the beach and within walking/biking distance of the main drag. They are dog friendly, which is awesome. It is important to note that we couldn't tell that dogs had stayed in our room, no odors or damage. I would definitely recommend to others!

We loved our little cottage. It was the perfect size for me, my girlfriend, and our two dogs. Candy, the manager, is so friendly and helpful. It is close to the beach and a short drive to most of the restaurants and shopping. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to others.

This place worked out well for the family and dog. It is funky , but clean and staff friendly. We had our own private patio and it is conveniently located. We will definitely stay here again. I only wish there was a pool. ;)
