My experience here was a 10, although sadly I can only rate a' la Mutt a 5! Everything about this place was amazing, from making the appointment, to the lovely groomer Jessica, to my dog's cut, to Laurie's (the owner) help and patience with answering my questions about dog food.
Here are the details: I I had set an appointment with Laurie which was no small feat since my schedule is pretty rigid ... she called me back about a week later since she had a funeral to attend to and was planning on closing the store for the day. I felt terrible, but I had no flexibility --- she was kind enough to ask her groomer to come and open the store especially for me so that I could keep my original time. I really appreciated that she honored my appointment --- it made me feel like she really cared about her clients and business and keeping her word.
We walked in and Jessica the groomer met us, she was so sweet and we spent about 10 - 15 min chatting before I left my pup. She asked me a bunch of questions about how often and how we typically groom him, she noticed that his nose had been shaved and commented that it would probably grow back funny and that in the future we should just have it trimmed. Bottom line - she obviously knew her stuff and really seemed to love her job.
I picked up my pup a few hours later and he had the best cut EVER! It's been 2 weeks and people are still commenting on how great he looks! When I arrived, Jessica was gone but I spent a good 20 min with Laurie asking her about raw food, canned food - she was super helpful and patient with all of my questions.
I couldn't be more pleased with our experience at a' la Mutt, these guys are great and I would highly recommend them! They will be our new go-to place! -

I just had my dogs groomed there again...and will be calling soon to make all my appointments for the rest of the year. I love Laurie, and I love our groomer (I think her name is Jessica?) She actually treats my dogs as if they are her own, really gentle. AND, this is the only groomer I've gone to that keeps my dogs little eyelashes long--as they SHOULD be. Most groomers just get the clippers and graze everything.
I'm a horrible client, I do a whole checklist of checks when I get my dogs home to see if they have any nicks, scrapes or burn marks. nada. AND, my dogs look so frikkin cute we actually had 3 people ask us where they get groomed our walk this morning. Im a proud doggy mama, and a happy customer.
They are not groomers, they are artists. I love them. so much.1 Previous Review: Show all »

My new groomers for my dog. it costs $55 for a grooming and $45 for first time clients. My dog usually hates going to the groomers but here he seems to be okay and respond to the energy of the staff. It may take a while to get a appointment do to the high volume of clients,So expect at least a two week time frame for them to see your pet so book in advance. They also call you a couple days after to follow up and make sure you were happy with the service. I thought that was a good touch.

Used to take my Shih Tzu here every few weeks. He enjoyed going, they treated him well and he always came out fluffy and handsome with a little "I know I'm cute" pep in his step. Now that I live out by the beach, I am too far to take him to a' la Mutt and I'm still searching for a closer groomer that does as good of a job...even 2 years later. I vote for a second location out on the westside!

The Sistine Chapel, Rome Italy... Machu Picchu, Peru... The Mountainside Temples in Bhutan... a' la Mutt in Toluca Lake... What do all of these places have in common? They're all awesome. Seriously... Awesome.
A la Mutt is a perfect example of why small businesses are better than large, chain stores. The owner and her staff love animals and offer everyone who walks through the door a welcome smile and individual attention. Their prices are very competitive and they do a terrific job with the services that they offer. While the store is relatively small, they manage to stock all of the necessities and some very cool unnecessaries as well.
The location is really convenient and I couldn't ask for a better overall experience.
A la Mutt will be my groomer as long as they are around!!! -

Love this place. Have only been once (we recently moved), but it's 100% where I'll be taking our dog for her grooming needs.
The owner was so friendly - she gave us a new client goodie bag and even threw in some additional handy items when she heard we were new to the neighborhood.
Prices are reasonable, but you do need to make an appointment a few weeks in advance - busy business from all of their happy customers! -

Super awesome place. I take my dog here for grooming and baths. Laurie the owner is an amazing person and absolutely fantastic. My dog loves this place and Laurie! He always leaves happy, and smelling great. You won't be disappointed. Annie is my groomer and she is great, but all the groomers are very good too.

Great place and very clean with plenty of doggie products.
Called in early morning Sat for a walk-in, but she said she was completely booked. However, if anything opened up she'd call back.
To my surprise she called in 30mins...got my pup in right-away.
My Chihuahua/bichon, Penny, looked so cute when she came out...she looked like a puppy all over again.
A little pricey, but 10% off the first visit is cool.
I did noticed her nails were not filed down, but she didn't hesitate to have her taken back to fix it before we left.
Will be back again...next time I'll call ahead Laurie. ;-) -

The reality of the times--blogging is the internet equivalent of gossip: anyone can say anything about anybody with little thought of consequences. And verity be damned. Trash-talking celeb blogheads are commentating for CNN, fer crying out loud. But I digress...
Having said that, you can take the review of my experiences at A la Mutt and file it in the recycle bin as well...but ask yourself: how many positive reviews has the place received versus the ONE negative piece?
My female Havanese has survived life-threatening neurological conditions and brain surgery to correct them. After months of gentle, loving care, I have a dog again. It's been tough and, needless to say, I entrust her care to a mere handful of people. Her trust in the world has been hard-earned, and I would do nothing to risk breaking it.
I had taken her to three groomers prior to finding Laurie and Paulina, and every time, I was called in to help calm her--grooming was not a pleasant experience for her. (One particularly nightmarish experience left my poor pup looking like she had been exposed to plutonium.) I told Laurie all about this, and asked her if I should stay--she said that Paulina had a way with animals and that it would be all right.
When I returned, my girl was beautiful--and Paulina explained that she and an assistant took two-and-a-half hours to calmly and slowly groom her. That kind of commitment is indicative of the high caliber of everyone working at A la Mutt. On our second visit, my dog allowed Paulina to groom her all on her own--by the third, a firm bond of trust had been established.
There is simply no way I would leave my animal with anyone capable of treating animals and behaving as described in the negative review.
I count myself lucky every time I leave my dog at A la Mutt and know that she will be cared for as if she were in my own home--what a relief and a blessing. -

I have been searching, searching, searching for a place to bathe my *very* easy to bathe dog. I think I have finally found THE PLACE. A place where my Bean was so happy to meet new people...and wasn't trying to run back to me, as she was being dragged behind the dreaded closed door. I actually felt comfortable leaving her there.
Yes, I can wash her myself when it's needed, but sometimes you just wanna pay someone else to do the dirty stuff. The icky stuff that needs to be dealt with every month or two. If you have a dog you know what I mean.
This is the third place I have tried. I saw all the 5 star reviews and thought "Well, this looks like a place that my 5 star baby might like." Yes, it costs a bit more that what I was paying. But my Josey is worth it...I also don't mind paying a little extra if it means that the things I can't do are actually getting done. She doesn't need haircuts, just a bath and the sanitary stuffs. Easy enough, right? Not so fast.
This is the first time I have picked her up, and she was so happy! Her nails (every one of them even!!) were sufficiently trimmed (a first) her teeth were brushed, and wonder of wonders...the groomer actually tended to her anal glands, instead of just telling me that they did. And all the groomers that I spoke to were so nice. You can really tell that they love the dogs. Oh, and they use fragrance free shampoos and stuff, so she didn't come back to me smelling like a french hooker. Of course, if you like that kind of thing, they can do it for you.
They forgot to give me my 10% off for our first time visit, but Laurie noticed (I didn't) and called me to tell me that she would put it in my file for our next visit! Really? Now that's service! We will be back. -

I really hate writing negative reviews, which is why it took me months to write this. I keep thinking the groomer was new or had a bad day, but I have an adorable rescue who may be a jack russell, poodle. 15 pounds of personality and adorable. This was his first haircut with me because the shelter had shaved him. Even bald, he was beautiful. But I'm not a groomer. I have no idea how to make a dog look good. I said I didn't want a poodle cut, just make him cute. When I saw him I wondered who they were giving me. He looked awful. They'd shaved him really short, leaving bushy eyebrows and hairy cheeks. I couldn't even recognize him. I didn't think it was possible to make this dog ugly, but whoever worked on him that day, managed somehow. I sure hope they were trying out someone and didn't hire her. I took him to someone who shaved off the remaining hair. With no hair he looked better than whatever that groomer did to him.

Brought my baby OPI here a couple weeks ago, and was excited and nervous all at the same time about trying a new groomer. Finding this place was quite easy and loved the location of the place and the two ladies i met who worked there that day.
I didn't wanna go all out on the first visit so I opted out of the dog cut and just went with a wash for now to see how that went. . . when I got there though they sold me on the blueberry facial... lolz, i know... hilarious but it was just so cute to hear i had to do it! Overall, it was a great experience, and will mostlikely be bringing me baby here again and again. -

Great customer service is important to me and CHARACTER is number one. I often look at how people handle situations that are not ideal in order to assess character. Suffice it to say that these are people who care and who you can trust with your kid. :)

Pauline the groomer has moved on, but her replacement is very good. There's nowhere else in the Valley we'd rather take our dogs for a day of beauty.

First I would like to say the ONLY reason why this place does not have 5 stars is because I've made a rule for myself not to give the highest rating until I've used a service twice. I'm sure next week there will be an update to this review!
Today was the first time I brought my Peki-Pom here for his regular grooming. They were fast (I was late to pick up ;/) and he was GORGEOUS! His coat was so shiny and flowing as if he were in a Pantene commercial!
Very happy and will be back. -

My dog, Woods, sheds terribly and I have never found a groomer who can adequately control her shedding. The folks at a la Mutt are an absolutely amazing crew; Thomas is a genius groomer that is kind, loving, patient, and professional beyond belief! When I picked Woods up after only a couple of hours I nearly didn't recognize her--she was shiny and beautiful and happy to be there.
A la Mutt is a fantastic place and I wouldn't dream of going elsewhere.1 Previous Review: Show all »

A La Mutt is truly tres magnifique! We have been bringing our Golden Retriever to Laurie & her wonderful groomers for over a year & they do an amazing job every time. Our boy can be a bit nervous at the groomer, and they always take special care of him. Regardless of if he has a few mats or a couple of fleas, they take the time to address the individual pet's needs. He always looks incredibly handsome & smells great when he leaves A La Mutt!! A BIG thank you to Laurie & everyone at A La Mutt for taking such great care of their 2-legged & 4-legged clients!!!

I've taken my Scottish Terrier, Darth Vader, here several times.
They are amazingly fast when it comes to e-mail contact - and even will call if there's a cancellation and they can see your dog early. Their groomer Paulina knew Scotties very well and did her very nicely. Sadly Paulina has moved on but I am confident the others are as good as she was. The owner is also very nice.
The only downside is that because they are good, they are very much in demand. Meaning, if you want to make an appointment swiftly, although they'll let you know of cancellations, you might be out of luck. Still - not their fault for being in demand. They're in demand because they do a good job.
When I have the time to wait, I'd definitely bring her there again. They're good people. -

These guys are ok. Very personable. The only negative is they keep cutting our Terrier's hair like he's a poodle. We've asked them not to, but It always turns out the same. Last time we had to trim his ears when he got home. Nice people but we're going to try elsewhere.

I just stumbled in to this place one morning after going to Wells Fargo and got my 43 pound dog in for a medicated wash as he was itchy and suffers from skin allergies. They gave him a melaluca wash and even dropped him off to my house. Well he was itchier than ever, and I had to call his vet, but I was very impressed with A La Mutts reaction. They called and offered to give him a hypo allergenic wash at no charge and dropped him off again for me. They called again to make sure he was allright, and I can't tell you how much that meant to me. Better customer service than Nordstrom even! Thanks you guys!

This place is great. These guys live up to their reviews. My dog Cosmo always has a doggy smile on when I get him back, and they do a terrific job of brushing him completely through. They even took him for a walk while I got my car ready for him. They are a bit more expensive than my last groomer, but well worth it. After the thugs at Petco traumatized my dog and did a poor grooming job, I decided to search yelp for a groomer. Glad I went here.

Jessica takes Jake, my pound pup, and makes him look like he's ready for the Westminster dog show! He's pretty cute to start with, but she keeps him looking trim and lets him keep his faux-hawk. He smells great and is good to go. a la Mutt gets four paws up!

Simply the best dog grooming salon ever. I have been to many and this is by far the best. The owner is so nice and she gets back to us in like minutes for an appointment confirmation. Paulina is always grooming my 2 maltese and they always come out like their ready to be shown in a competition. My 2 dogs always come out happy and excited like they dont want to leave lol. She takes the time to listen to how we want them groomed and she finishes it with her own talent and skills. I will always come here i just hope they don't raise prices.

This place is awesome!! I have 3 dogs and they love A la Mutt. It is so clean and always has tons of Treats and toys for my babies. Laurie is so friendly and I always feel comfortable leaving my dogs with her. It used to be Four paws only and Laurie has done a fantastic job taking it over and giving it a fresh start.

I'm a new and overprotective parent of the world's cutest morkie (with apologies to those who own the world's second cutest morkies) and everyone at A La Mutt treated me and the pooch with kid gloves. The service was outstanding and very educational (for this new pet owner). To top it off, my "baby" kept wanting to smooch everyone in the shop before leaving. Proof that the grooming experience (his first) was completely non-traumatic. Highly recommended. And feel free to ask them questions -- they're all terrific!

I can't say enough good things about this place. The owner Laurie couldn't be nicer and the groomers, Paulina and Thomas are all awesome! My dog hated going to his previous groomer, but he actually runs to A La Mutt! My dog has never had better cuts than he's gotten from Thomas and Paulina. Paulina has taken the time with my dog to show him that grooming can be a fine experience if it's done with love. To top it all off, my dog smells AMAZING when he leaves A' la Mutt. And not that perfumey, powdery smell either. Although it's located in Toluca Lake and I live on the Westside, it's SO WORTH driving my dog there for his grooming. This place is awesome and I would recommend it to any discerning dog owner. Thanks to Laurie and her staff for taking such good care of our dog.

I have taken my little Maltese to a few different groomers and have never felt so at ease as I do at A la Mutt. The owner is always so friendly and the groomer Thomas is so gentle and does beautiful cuts on my dog. My pup is very scared of going to the groomers and he truly treats her with care and patience. I only trust A la Mutt with my little one. Great service, great prices. If you're dog is sensitive like mine, go to A la Mutt! You will be happy you discovered this salon.
