After wandering through the street carnival that was Española way, my wife and I paused just outside the press of bodies to catch our breaths.  We were hungry but loath to subject ourselves to trying to walk past the aged Latin gentleman pretending to be Michael Jackson again.  We spied a clutch of people sitting in front of a quiet restaurant and decided we wanted to check it out.

What we found was a fantastic French restaurant/crêperie.  We ordered the small plateau royal (assorted cheeses, cold cuts, pâtés, tomatoes, salad, cornichons, raisins, and walnuts) and were still undone by the amount of food we got.  While we didn't love every cheese and every meat on the plate, there was more than enough there to fill us, and make us happy.

We also ordered the escargots, which... were... perfect.

The final thing that made the night wonderful was the incredible bottle of French cider (domaine Dupont's Cidre Bouché).  I took pictures of the bottle so we can track this stuff down at home.

In retrospect, I wish we'd gotten a crêpe, but I cannot imagine that we will not be back.

South Beach can be an ultra-drag to find dinner, that is both good and reasonably priced.  I have tried multiple restaurants on Lincoln Rd. and have repeatedly been so disappointed, at time even down right disgusted.

My friend and I meet up pretty periodically on Lincoln for ice cream and often go to different places for dinner.  She suggested we try this café, and had a bit of a hard time finding it, it's tucked into a corner in Española.  The café itself is cute, and it feels "French" so to speak.  The stall doors in the women's did not have working locks, something I hope they have fixed by now.

The menu was not really well organized.  However one can make due.  I ordered a crepe that had mushrooms sautéed in butter and garlic and I asked them to add chicken.  It came with a mixed green salad and it was all pretty fresh and prepared well.  The crepe itself is made of buckwheat which I though was nice.  I am not sure if the sweet crepes are also made of the same.   It was pretty yummy, I wasn't really "wowed" but I wasn't disappointed either.  The service was ok, nothing awesome, but on South Beach this is pretty standard even in some of the higher end dining establishments, at least from my experience.

For what it is, I would go back if I were in the area.  I would not go out of my way and make a special trip to go through.  That said, I would be interested in trying more of their crepes though and I wouldn't be surprised if I did find the 1 crepe that would keep going back.

Love this cute little French spot and its delicious food and strong espresso, and love that it's on Espanola Way, exactly where I like to stay when I'm in Miami. They're on a quieter stretch, and they have outdoor seating so you can enjoy the sunshine.

Their crepes have fabulously flaky exteriors that are enjoyable even without the filling - but don't get me wrong, the filling's baller too. I had the Crepe Bourdaloue, with caramelized pears and almond filling. It came with almond slivers strewn over the top, and so heavily dusted with powdered sugar that it was basically white. I also tried the savory Quiche Aux Poireaux, with a cream of leeks over Belgium endives, walnuts and tomatoes. I may have liked this even more than the crepe, which is saying something.

OMG, best crepes I have EVER had!!!  This cute cozy place on Espanola way has indoor and outdoor seating.  I LOVE this place.

Dark chocolate crepe - A little bit of bitter from the dark chocolate, the crepe was crispy, moist on the inside, and just freaking absolute GREATNESS.

French Salami  - With butter and cornichons served on a baguette and a mini salad.  This sandwich was so good.

Fresh OJ - Sweet with pulp and freshly squeezed, WOW.

Worth every penny!!!  Au Petit Four in Scottsdale, AZ - You need to take a lesson from these guys for lunch, crepes, pastries, and customer service.

This is the 2nd time I've been here and it was delicious - again!  Had a breakfast crepe the 1st time a couple weeks ago (cant remember exactly which one but I remember LOVING it) and was there this past week on a Miami Food Tour, where we had a huge sample of cheeses. The brie was by far my favorite!
Everything is very authentic French cuisine, and the service is very friendly. It is towards the west end of Espanola Way but worth the walk down. Will definitely go again to try other dishes!

I visited South Beach for some reason i was in the mood for french food so me and my brother came a cross this nice low-key small little french cafe on Espanola Way. When we walk in on a rainy day we were ones here at the time, I don't know if you would say their costumer service is the best the guys who were working seem like they were talking about us but it was hard to tell because they were speaking french and we didn't speak or understand it that wall but you know it's Miami.

The reason way i give A La Folie Cafe four stars is because their food is to die for, what i had for dinner was not bad and the wine was great and i had best dessert in my life time i forgot what it was called but it was syrup with brown sugar with strawberries on top with dark chocolate, I did not see too many french  restaurants/Cafe around Miami Beach so if you happen to be in the area and this place is not on your list your missing so change your mind and have this place is must go to.

I would recommend this place to anyone.

So thanks to a living social deal I think I found my new favorite french cafe to take my friends and family when they visit me here in Miami. The nice waiter recommended me The Norvegienne which is a crepe w/smoked salmon, brie cheese, and mushrooms. I followed that with a sweet crepe called The Normande which is filled with caramelized pears, vanilla ice cream and my favorite dark chocolate. The place is easy to find and its small, nice and cozy. He even removed the 20% tip thats included for me so I can leave him a bigger tip in cash without an attitude like most southbeach restaurants have a problem with.

When in Miami I like to make a stop for breakfast at the charming French cafe. It's at the quiet end of Espanola. Generally it goes down like this- Chocolate croissant, tartiflette ( a gratin of bacon, potatoes, cream, and cheese with baguette),and a grand creme (it's cafe au lait in a bowl, oui oui!). I have tried other things on the menu which were all good but I can't get that tartiflette just anywhere- oh no sir.

You really do feel like you're in France, the servers are all from there and depending who serves you you might get a little of that aloof Parisian spirit!

I agree with some of the other reviewers, you definitely feel like you're in France, and the service is French (slow with some attitude) but other than that it's a wonderful place to enjoy crepes in Miami.  Relaxing atmosphere where you could let time drift by and just enjoy the morning.  Recommended!

--Charming, casual ambience. It's more lower east side manhattan than Miami. On beautiful Espanola Way.
--Mimosas are strong on orange juice and very weak on champagne
    --Service is slow and cold.
--Savory Crepes are just ok. Tried the ham, egg, swiss cheese and the chicken, spinach, mushroom. Wouldn't go out of my way to have them again.
--Dessert Crepes are amazing. Had the chocolat. What's not to love about a buttery crepe drizzled in chocolate?!!!

Was hoping for more. Don't have to go back.

These aren't just the best crepes in Miami, that's a no brainer, they also happen to be the best crepes I've ever  had, and were accompanied by incredibly friendly service in one of the cutest atmospheres for a restaurant / café that I can recall. This is most certainly not the kind of food most people would associate with this city, but I can assure you if you visit and don't put this place on your list then you're missing out.

Through all the side streets and balconies of Espanola Way, beyond the mediocre tourist spots, lies this little gem that is so completely unassuming from the front yet dotted with patrons soaking up the sun on their patio. Dogs lie in wait, eagerly hoping for morsels to drop, and enjoying the shade of the palms arching over them. Stepping inside you instantly smell the coffee, the chocolate (Nutella), and that crepe batter cooking on a hot surface. Taking a look around you've got nude ladies painted on the wall (http://www.flickr.com/...), drink menus inscribed on the bar, and random French quotes all around. The colors remind me of an office I once had, and I'm a huge fan of the Venetian plaster look. There can be little doubt in your mind this café was uprooted out of France itself and placed firmly down on the street here in Miami Beach. If there were any doubt it is quickly removed by any of the servers who come by to assist you, all speaking in French amongst themselves but with lovely accents to you, and thankfully without the normally associated pretension.

What to order? Oh, so many choices. So many, many choices! Ingredients you don't normally see on crepe menus are tossed on so nonchalantly they instantly intrigue you..."how can that work?" you wonder. It does, believe me. I was most sad to be here alone, and so full after more than a week of indulgence, that I could only consume 2 crepes by myself. Deciding which 2 off this monster of a menu (http://www.flickr.com/...) was no easy task, but I finally settled on the "Marocaine" (they all have specific names), which has spicy tuna with a harissa sauce, parsley, egg, and Swiss cheese.

Harissa is one of my greatest weaknesses in life, and I probably eat close to a liter of it a month, if not more, which is quite a lot for a spicy dip. So, naturally I was disappointed when I bit into my crepe and there was none there! But, I was mistaken, as my waiter informed me...the side ramekin (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) that I thought was for my salad was actually an entire thing of harissa oil! Bonus! The day was saved and the crepe complete, and the combination of all the ingredients was beyond excellent. Their crepes are so wonderfully light and the ingredients so remarkably fresh; you really could taste every element both singularly and as a component of a whole concept. The only true disappointment I found was in the fresh squeezed lemonade. It was just too watery and the sourness lacked depth or accompanying sweetness to balance.

I did have another drink that more than made up for the lemonade though, choosing from their also extensive list of coffee creations. I opted for my usual mocha (Moka, by their naming), a café au lait with cocoa added. Watching them continually operate the espresso machine was mesmerizing, and the expertise showed through in this simple beverage. But what is a mocha without more chocolate to compliment it?

Of course, I had to order a Nutella crepe, as leaving this place without one would be akin to visiting Kentucky without sampling any bourbon. Not only did the "Stendhalienne" (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) blow me away, it made me think once again how heavily I'm considering buying real estate in Miami Beach for vacation purposes. Waking up on the weekends to this several times a year makes the cost seem irrelevant. How something so simple as strawberries and Nutella inside crepe batter can taste so comfortingly good is beyond me. Sometimes you don't question what the Gods have in store for you, you just embrace it and thank them that they've allowed you the opportunity.

The location is great - on the quiet end of Espanola. I love the feeling that you are in a little cafe in Europe - the interior is fantastically Parisian, the bathrooms are clean and the seating area on the side is quiet and romantic. 5-star on the atmosphere alone!

The food is OK. Nothing overwhelming. I had the harissa tuna crepe last night and the crepe was definitely overcooked, verging on burned. The escargots are fantastic and I do enjoy the desserts.

The service is interminably slow and authentically French! Diners are definitely made to feel as though the waitstaff are doing them a HUGE favor. Very patronizing... "you will wait for the food and are lucky to be eating it!"

On a mission to find the Best Hot Chocolate, I found this little cafe  on my Yelp App.

It was chilly and I was looking forward to having some creamy hot chocolate at a local cafe. This place is private, tucked away on a side street on espanola way. La Folie, has a casual emo boho feel to it. With a Laid back ambiance, french tourists and locals seem to prowl around this place....

The menu looked pretty interesting, most of the customers were drinking wine or some type of hot beverage.

    I ordered the:

Hot Chocolate: It was watery and not good in any way shape or form. Mixed hot chocolates are way better than this.. (sorry)

    The Nutella Crepe':
4 1/2 stars... yum!!! It was a thin crepe with sugared powder and nutella! I would def reccomend this crepe :)

The cold plate platter looked interesting, if I come back I may try that.

Still on my search for the "Best Hot Chocolate" :)

Finally got to try A La Folie last night, and what a pleasant surprise. Nestled back on Espanola Way's less occupied side, you can find the small cafe once you spot the Tricolour on their patio.

Seating is limited and the decor is something I would describe as "BoHo French." Not peppy, upbeat french like Pascal's or Bouchon--Folie has more of a brooding, coffee shop vibe. Service was prompt, but wasn't particularly memorable. Their drinks, however, were.

I ordered a grog. This was simply because of my childhood allegiance to a small restaurant in Northern Massachusetts, the "Grog".  A steaming cup of lemon juice, honey, and rum--it cures what ails me. My companion had a "chocolat fou"--essentially, hot chocolate with Grand Marnier. Really spectacular, and not lacking on the booze.

We ordered the Tunisienne crepe, comprised of sweet mint leaves, honey, and lemon. Very good, very refreshing, very light.

Overall, a nice surprise. I loved A La Folie.

Like everyone's yelp review says, this place has pretty good dessert crepes. I got the Nutella with strawberries and it was pretty darn good. The only thing I didn't like about this place is that the service was extremely slow. They had 4 servers and when we got in getting a table took forever, I had to pull a chair myself from another table to seat myself, and then I had to go to the counter to order and then pay for the bill at the counter. Add insult to injury the tip was already included in the bill. The tables next to us even asked each other, isn't tip based on service? I know a whole group before us left also because of their slowness. Too bad, this place could've been something.

    Very very disappointed,
Me and my husband  were expecting much better food and a mediocre service, instead we got tasteless food and slow service.
The chicken , spinach and mushrooms crepe was far from what I expected, in all the meaning of the world, tasteless.
My husband got the one with salmon and brie , he also was really disappointed.
We didn't order any dessert ,
Of course the waitress  brought the credit card slip and kept the actual check, on the slip there was the space for the tip.
We asked to see the receipt and found out that 18% was alredy included.
We didn't complain but left and we will  never go back.

A quaint, little French cafe. Nothing fancy, but nonetheless charming. It's tucked away towards the end of Espanola Way, just a little past the hullabaloo of restaurants.

They offer authentic French fare, music, and wine service. Outside they provide comfy patio lounge seating to host private parties. All orders are prepared fresh.

We stopped to try one of their sweet crepes. We had the Stendahalliene which is essentially dark chocolate (in this case we chose nutella instead) and sliced strawberries. We asked for sliced bananas and a scoop of vanilla ice cream as extras. The crepe itself was perfectly executed (probably one of the best I've had). It was slightly crinkly on the corners, soft and airy.

I would definitely like to return and try their other menu items the next time I'm in town.

This was our first meal in Miami.  Strolling along Espanola Way, this place looked like a solid bet.  It was busy enough to ensure that people like frequenting the joint, but there were available tables.  And the restaurant itself is quite cute and inviting.  Looking over the menu, there were many viable options for a tasty lunch.

I was not at all impressed with the service.  Getting a glass of water and having someone take our drink orders seemed like an ordeal.  In fact, we were actually joking about how the servers seemed to feel compelled to live up to the bad stereotype of Parisians dealing with tourists.  Fortunately, it was a beautiful day and people watching filled in the very long wait, so it was tolerable.

BUT after a long wait, you at least hope the food will make up for it.  Unfortunately, I can't say I was too impressed with my meal either.  The buckwheat crepe itself had an interesting flavour, but the filling was so minimal that it didn't add much to it. There was no love in the salad either.

Overall, it made me feel a little homesick for the crepes I know and love at Petit Dejeuner.

All I heard about A La Folie, from several Miami Beach locals, was how amazing the food is at the French restaurant on Espanola Way. Generally, the chief complaint is the agonizingly slow service due in part to dishes prepared as fresh as any on South Beach. However, on a recent trip in which I tried the Canard a L'Orange crepe ($13) with duck in an orange and Grand Marnier sauce, I was underwhelmed with the overall crepe by the lack of sauce inside. The duck confit tasted fresh and moist, with a delicate texture. Small wedges of orange were present. However, that sauce was barely there.

Also of note is the use of Lavazza Italian coffee. My preference is Illy, with its smoother and less acidic qualities. The taste is far more refined.

I have to tell you...Miami in general probably isn't my kind of place to vacation, but mostly because I'm happy just hanging out with my friends at local shops, trying new foods, and general girl bonding without being interrupted by club promoters every 10 minutes when all we want to do is lay out on the beach.  Among the things I do love about it are all the outdoor restaurants, beautiful european/spanish men/women, active yoga life etc.

Then, on an afternoon where I really wanted *me time*, I found this cafe on yelp.  As soon as I arrived, I absolutely fell in love.  The setting couldn't have been more perfect with its quirky yet rustic decor that looked like it could be a *date setting* in a movie. It was pouring outside, and there was a seat next to the window that had my name written all over it.  I ordered food/cappucino (I'll get to that in a minute) and basically sat my butt here for 4 hours just reading on my Kindle.  They had that kind of service where they knew just when to check up on me, and when to give me my space.  I felt like it was just me in this cute little world.

On to the food, went here on two different occasions, with company on the second so that I could sample

    1.  Norvegianne.. smoked salmon crepes with brie (very savory and flavorful)
    2. Citron Sucre  Butter and sugar with lemon (subtle, with just enough flavor)
    3.  Chocolat Banane (Nuttella crepes)
    4. Orange Au Caramel De Benane ...fresh orange and banana caramel

If I come back, i definitely will make my way back here and order the smoked salmon, citron sucre, and nuttella again... all were sooo sooo delicious in its own right.  I also ordered their ginormous cappucino, also very delicious.

Prices averaged to be $8-11, and i would encourage indulging in a savory crepe and a dessert crepe.

Absolutely my favorite café in all of Miami/South Beach. I like that it's tucked away at the quiet end of lovely Espanola Way! After finding A La Folie, I now wish we hadn't wasted our time or money on the many other subpar, overrated cafés and lunch spots in the area.

Although nothing can compare to the homemade goodness of my grandfather's galettes and my dad's crêpes, A La Folie still did not disappoint! I tried everything from their galettes, crêpes, escargots, cheese and coldcut platters, paté, duck rillettes, French onion soup, and everything was consistently delicious. Oh, and their hot and cold beverages were perfect every time.

Service WAS a little slow and not exactly friendly. Honestly, it was reminiscent of the nonchalance of waiters/waitresses in Paris or Montréal so it didn't really phase me. ;)

If I lived in Miami, I'd be a regular at this café. Now I'm just annoyed I didn't buy myself a souvenir A La Folie t-shirt when I was there. I'd gladly wear it as free advertisement for this fantastic place lol. ;)

EDIT: Also, I LOVE that they have magazines all around the café! I can't think of a better way to relax while sipping my café au lait.

I've been here a couple times and I love the atmosphere.  I've come in for a crepe (caramelized pear with almonds, yes please), had a couple late afternoon lunches and got stuck here in the rain for a couple hours in the summer.  It's tucked down at the very end of the slower paced, less South Beachy, Espanola Way where it perfectly fits.  I can't think of anywhere else in Miami that would be a better fit for A La Folie.

The food has never disappoints. The service is typical South Beach but it kinda appropriate since its not the type place I would go for fast service.  It's definitely the best spot on the beach to bring an old/visit friend and catch up and still be able to say you brought them to South Beach.

This cafe is a consistent crack up! To call it "authentic" is an understatement. It's tiny, often no one there. Even if you are the only customers who have just arrived, the waiter will definitely finish his cigarette and his conversation with his ami before acknowledging you. If you give him a "ca va?" he MIGHT cut it short...good luck!

The Crepe Master in his miniscule kitchen speaks nothing but French but makes a mean crepe. The pate platter is loaded for only $20 and the sandwiches are made on fantastic French baugettes. It's on the quiet end of Espaniola way and is lovely to sit outside on a day that is not super hot.

You will be getting a French waiter. He probably won't be as polite or attentive as an American waiter and he will include a automatic 18% gratuity to your bill (which btw, is not legally binding a.k.a. you CAN refuse, no matter what anyone in South Beach tells you) If you can see past that and chalk it up as part of the French experience, it is one of the few places in this neighborhood that is a good value, comparatively.

Location, location, location. There is no better place to sit on the sidewalk and enjoy a leisurely lunch than here. Tucked away on Espanola Way, this cafe is quiet, shady, and off the beaten track. (Though, what does it say about South Beach as a whole that my favorite place to be there was one that didn't feel like South Beach at all.)

Food was only ok, I'm afraid. And I fear that some customers -- the French-speaking ones -- got better service, and better food than others. One of our crepes was supposed to have almond paste in it, and instead was smothered in sliced raw almonds on top. Actually, rather difficult to eat for all the raw almonds.

Service is slow and a tad pretentious. But, for location, peace and quiet alone, it is worth it. And, the food is FAR superior to that found in many other restaurants on South Beach.

A La Folie is a very cute cafe on Espanola Way. It's a nice place to go to in the afternoon to satisfy a mid-day sweet craving or for dessert after dinner. The crepes are really good! They are thin, soft, and fluffy. I can only comment on the dessert crepes as that is all that I have ever ordered from here. My favorites are the Belle Helene crepe (caramelized pears, vanilla ice cream and dark chocolate) and the Stendhalienne crepe (dark chocolate or nutella spread with strawberries). I like to pair a sweet crepe with a glass of white wine or a cortadito (depending on my mood!). I had to knock a star off because service is terrible. Everyone moves at a glacial pace here.

This is my favorite place on the beach.  I am biased as I first went here shortly after I arrived in FL and have been returning for meals and deserts ever since.   A long time ago I lived in Nice and there was a great little cafe up by the train station.  This cafe reminds me of that cafe with the quality of food, the atmospher, and just the overall experience.   I could go on and on, but allow me to sum this up quickly:
Go here for a good meal or desert, take home a couple fresh crossants, and you will be happy with your decission.  I state my reputaion on that statement.

I'm sad that I'm giving this place such a disappointing review.  Prior to my trip to Miami, this was one of the restaurants that I was excited to try and when I found out that it was one of our stops in our food tour...I was ecstatic! Well, that quickly changed.

DON'T ORDER THE CHEESE PLATE.  When our cheese plate arrived, the bread was stale, and half of the cheeses were warm and melted, while some of the grapes were brown.  Just presentation alone was unappetizing, and even after sampling the plate...the taste confirmed my physical judgment.

A La Folie is tucked away in Espanola Way, in the cutest street corner I've ever seen.  I'm from Southern California and we have nothing like this!  If it wasn't for the set up and location of the restaurant, I would have given them 2 stars.

A La Folie, you seem so out of place in Miami Beach, hidden away as you are at the end of Espanola Way. MB is all about glitz, didn't you know that? And you're quietly under the radar.
It's possible that I am also giving this cafe 5 stars because the waiter is beautiful and speaks with a heavy french accent. But mostly it's for the subtle french decor, the delicate crepes and entrees, and the beverages, which by default come in bowls (you can specify smaller cups too).

Definitely a great place for brunch. My boyfriend and I came here on our first day in Miami this year. Our hotel wouldn't let us check in until 3PM so we walked around and ended up in this hidden little treasure down Espanola Way. There's outdoor seating but we chose to sit inside where there was air-conditioning. Everything is really fresh.

A few days later we went back and sat outside - I would definitely recommend if a pleasant little break from the chaos that is the touristy area between Ocean Drive and Washington Avenue.

Beware of thieves who work here.

Ordered an espresso and drank it.  I went to bathroom and when I came out my sunglasses were gone.  The staff claimed ignorance but they did pick up the tip I left.

Located in the quieter part of Espanola Way this little shop has good breakfast and some of the freshest ingredients to go in your sandwich.  Service is good here but the wait can take some time.  So plan ahead if you want to come here and eat.

I had the salmon baguette which was delicious.  Even the side salad that came with the sandwich was good.

    what blah service.

the waitress seemed to have cared less about attending us. we basically had to do all the talking while she just stood there. we had to flag her down to get her attention. i guess since tip is automatically included, there is no desire to do good.

the 2 crepes were just alright. very underwhelming.

the only positive was the soup.
