I've been going to Carol for years and have had her repair old pieces and design new ones. She's amazing. She's creative, patient and tries to understand her customer's needs. Oh, and her expanding collection of jewelry for sale is amazing. She has tons of unique modern designs and vintage pieces. Even though the shop is tiny, you can spend hours looking at the gorgeous things.

I love Carol's honesty! When my husband and I purchased our wedding/engagement rings, she charged me less than her original quote. She explained I needed a discount because the cost of gold was down that day. Wow!

Carol at a Jeweler's Place is terrific. She's very helpful and takes the time to talk through exactly what you want. We took my grandmother's engagement ring in to add some side stones. When I got it back I loved it but after a week or so I noticed some serious flaws with the work. I took it back and she fixed everything I asked her to, with no charge and very quickly.
We are taking my wedding band to Carol as well for her to fix up. I'm very pleased with the work she's done and her customer service.
Also her prices are amazing! -

Everybody has already said all the wonderful things about Carol, her store, her selection and her prices. FABULOUS all around. I'd like to add that I went to an upstairs jeweler above Shreve near Union Square for 25 years -- repairs, new items, antique jewelry, etc. I'll only go to Carol now.
Her work is spot on and high quality. Her advice is straightforward and insightful. Her prices are so much better than what I used to pay for unusual work and projects. Her prices for buying old or scrap gold are good too.
In addition, I like being with her and her other customers. They are a warm, supportive and friendly group. Wow, I wish that I'd met her 25 years ago.
I have a lot of unusual projects for her to do as I like to take unique, antique or vintage pieces and repurpose them for beading projects that I do, so I want high quality and innovative work. Carol provides that perfectly. -

Carol's the best! I had been searching Yelp for a neighborhood jeweler to make a pendant from a gem in a ring that I had. Carol helped me with choosing a setting and later helped me choose a very pretty chain that complimented the sparkle of the gem. She also gave me a reasonable credit for the weight of the gold rings that I no longer needed.
I would definitely recommend Carol. She is very pleasant, honest and helpful. -

I love this place. I started going here after " Touch Stone" on Cole st, in the Haight closed and moved. Carol, is a friendly person with lots of knowledge on jewels. She can re size, reset , polish and fix your jewelry.
She even has unique stuff for sale. I would recommend this place to buy or fix things you already own. Give it a try. -

I can't remember how I originally found Carol at A Jeweler's Place. I think I first had her melt down my law school class ring and make some other custom jewelry out of it, probably in about 1994. In the ensuing 15 years, I've called on Carol many times to help bring various jewelry designs out of the nooks and crannies of my brain and into reality, and to help me design custom pieces. Most recently, she did a wonderful execution of the wedding bands I designed for me and my fiancé. I just picked them up today, and they're gorgeous (I uploaded a photo - check 'em out: trapezoidal 18k white gold bands with alternating opals and turquoise and a single square-cut diamond on my sweetheart's ring).
Carol is kind, friendly, warm, extremely skilled at her craft, and her prices are completely reasonable. I recommend her utterly without reservation. -

I've figured out why I love coming here now... I love to shop and I fully support independent jewelers because my grandparents owned a jade business and a little shop that I used to hang out in when we lived in Hong Kong but that's not the only reason why I keep coming back. When I was a small q, one of my favorite things to do was to dig out my mother's jewelry boxes, pour everything out on her bed, set up a mirror, and proceed to try on every single piece. Coming to A Jeweler's Place is like stepping into a big and wonderful jewelry box filled with beautiful pieces that I want to take my time to try on one by one. And just like my mom, Carol doesn't seem to mind that I take a while to go through everything... as long as I put things back the way I found them, of course. =)
Carol also has a knack for finding pieces. My friend came in to ask her to make an earring to replace one that she lost. Carol suggested that it would be cheaper to just purchase a new pair and embarked on the search. Three months later, my friend gets a call and I get the earrings for her. They were a match and cost even less than the original pair. You can always count on her to be kind and provide everything you bring in with great care.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Carol's SUPER sweet. =)
I dropped off several things a couple weeks ago, a pair of earrings that needed repairs, a necklace that need to be re-pendanted (I don't know how to describe it), and a pendant and stone that had to be set. Everything was done well, reasonably priced, and Carol was super friendly.
My experience here is one of the best I've ever had at a jeweler. No pretentiousness. No pushiness. Carol gives her honest opinions about whether or not something's fixable and gives the best estimate of how much something would cost. She's also got a great eye for what goes well with what.
I highly recommend. -

We had a fantastic experience with this shop. She helped us design our rings and then made them up for us, and the prices were really very good. The whole experience was very smooth and uncomplicated, which we really appreciated, since everything else about planning a wedding is stressful!
Low-key, no pressure, responsible, reasonable prices. -

Thank you to the previous reviews and for helping me to find this place. Carol is great and so affordable.
I was looking for a place to resize my ring. It was a scroll ring so I didn't want someone to cut it up and ruin the design of the ring. I took the ring to several places and got some quotes of $200-400. Crazy! I took it to Carol and she did it for $60 and even tightened the setting on my ring. She also cleaned my ring and made it look oh so much more gorgeous.
I also LOVE her jewelry. I have already purchased five set of earrings for friends and one for myself. Very unique jewelry for great prices. I am all set for gifts until Mother's Day. I love this neighborhood! -

I looked to my fellow yelpers out there to guide me to this spot.
I recently took a family heirloom to be resized and repaired. The woman was nice and the price was great. The work was good. I only gave 4 stars instead of five, because when I went to pick it up there was another woman there dropping off lots of jewelry and I waited more than half hour before the woman behind the counter finally got to help me.
I guess just would have liked it if she would have asked the woman if she could help me with my pick up real quick. Instead what was supposed to be a quick errand turned out to be 40 minutes long. I will go there again and have repairs done. I was quite satisfied. -

Carol deserves more stars. Thank goodness for Yelp or I may have not found her! She took my grandmother's wedding band: replaced some broken diamonds, cleaned it up, resized it - and we were floored by the result. If I ever need anything vintage repaired, this would be the place. Amazing.

I waited a really long time to get my engagement ring resized because I didn't want to part with it. But I came to the realization that I could either part with it for a week and get it resized so that I never have to worry again or part with it one day when I forget to curl in my ring finger and it slips off and away from me forever. So began my search for a jeweler.
Unlike some other places I called, Carol gave me a very reasonable quote over the phone after I gave her some details about my ring and what I needed.
She was very sweet and that helped a lot because I was really nervous about leaving MY PRECIOUSSSSS. I was really happy when it came back to me two days earlier than promised and it was perfect! There were no blemishes on it and she even cleaned it so that it's shiny as new.
The shop is really cute. It's in a nice quiet neighborhood with easy street parking. And I like that it's not gaudy like some other jeweler shops can be. -

All I gotta say is that, thanks to Carol, I'm now rocking a fabulous, huge rock (*not* a diamond, thank-you-very-much!) set in in recycled 18k gold (provided by me)!

This is another one of those places and people that make San Francisco great. Carole is always professional. She's courteous, tells me what is going to be done, gives me an honest estimate, calls me when my jewelry is repaired, the price is always the same as the estimate and I am always satisfied!

I needed some small jewelry repairs done, and Yelp very clearly pointed me here. Thanks to you other Yelpers who gave A Jeweler's Place top ratings!
Carol did all the repairs perfectly, on time, and inexpensively. She was also very forthcoming about a silver chain that wasn't worth the cost of repairing; I bought a replacement instead that I'm very happy with.
For now, I'm delighted to be able to wear my repaired pieces again, but she's got a lot of cool jewelry for sale, and I know I'll be back to look at new stuff before too long. -

I originally came to Carol for help designing our matching wedding bands. They turned out gorgeous and many people ask me where we got them. That was 15 years ago. She's still helping me repair old jewelry (family heirlooms, etc) and selling me new pieces. I love Carol and trust her implicitly. She has reasonably priced jewelry and is a very, very skilled jeweler. She's also very kind and pleasant to be around - no pushy sales here. She doesn't need to be pushy anyway with such great service and products, they sell themselves.

This place is a gem (pun intended). I bring all of my jewelry repairs here and they are always done on time and very reasonably priced. I stop in for birthday and Christmas gifts as well. I probably did all of my jewelry gift shopping here over the last couple of years. Carol is a sweetheart and really has an eye for the most interesting and unique jewelry for both men and women. Shop local!!

Basically, Carol made ring shopping easy and fast. Here's the story.
My boyfriend wanted to get me a special ring, not quite and engagement ring and I did not want to wear something ordinary. I found this awesome little place here on yelp. I read all the great reviews and I had to go myself. Carol has a great selection. She was busy helping someone else so my boyfriend and I took our time looking. We found several ring options and I knew that the right one had to be at this very store. When she was all done helping the other person, she paid us full attention. She sized my finger, helped us choose, my BF paid and we left for home. Just shortly after we arrived home, my boyfriend got a call and he tried to disguise it, Carol called him say she sized the ring and he could pick it up. He hurried over and back, then presented it to me in a darling little box. It was a great, and I love my ring. Carol is a quality person with a quality service, I'll be happy to go back again and again. -

This is "the" place for jewelry repairs and "remodels". I've been bringing my broken "regular" jewelry and troubled heirloom pieces here for help for over 10 years, and I've never been disappointed. Carol knows what she's doing, and is respectful of the heritage and sentiment that accompanies "family jewelry". She usually offers several options for repair solutions, depending on how much I want to spend. If I come in with an idea that won't work, or that will look bad, she suggests a better alternative. If there's a risk that what you want her to do will damage the piece, she tells you that, too. This is a great place, and her prices are extremely reasonable.

I haven't been to the store yet, this review is for customer service alone. I called this morning inquiring after a quick turnaround for getting a stone set in a day to a new ring I have. While she wasn't able to do it, Carol went out of her way to call a couple of contacts to see who could accommodate, and then called me back with the info. She definitely went out of her way, and I look forward to shopping there in the future.

This is a great little spot to look for unique jewelery. For those of us who don't think that diamonds are the be-all end-all in the jewelry this is the place for you. They don't have a huge selection, but what they do have is totally unique and one of a kind. The have all kinds of stones, from onyx and lapis to rubies and coral. The owner custom makes pieces as well. I have had a few rings sized here and found it to be very reasonable. The only bummer is that their hours are a little strange and inconvenient for people who work the regular 9-5pm.

I didn't actually end up using the services here because Carol was so honest about my earrings that I ended up deciding to buy new ones, as mine probably aren't worth fixing. She was extremely kind, honest, and forthcoming--rare enough qualities as to be completely refreshing. If I ever do need jewelry repair, I know where to come.

Carol is the best!
Every time i wear one of her pieces I get compliments. I've even put things on my "wish list" for my husband to check out at holidays - works great!
She'll also do great repair work. She reset an opal ring as a pendant, so now I wear it often. I even go there for girls birthday gifts. You can find little bracelets, charms, all kinds of pretty jewelry at very reasonable prices - much better than buying junky toys! -

I love this place. I'm not a big wearer of jewelry, but everything I've ever needed help with she's done beautifully. 1.) cleaning my grandmother's diamond watch and putting new band on it. 2.) making a second earring for my mom after she lost one of them (the one she made was identical to the original one!) 3.) turning an engagement ring into a beautiful pendant necklace for me and finally... helping find a stone and setting for a necklace for my daughter. She is reasonable, responsible, ethical, a wonderful craftswoman AND she is in my neighborhood. I love this place!

I got my wedding band made here by Carol. I just described what I wanted and she drew it. She had me come in to look at the mock wax version before she cast it to make sure I liked it and hand-picked the diamonds in it according to what we wanted and showed them to me before she placed them. The work is awesome and exactly what I wanted.

I have been going to Carol for many years now, and have bought many a beautiful piece of jewelery for myself or a friend. I also had Carol help me design and make a ring for my husband out of recycled gold and a diamond. Carol is very reasonably priced and is a very kind, decent and honest person. She is a skilled craftsperson and will help you solve any jewelery dilemma in the best possible way. I agree with most of the other reviewers in their comments. I love the fact that she is doing what she obviously loves, and has this quiet little shop in the Richmond.
