Gary was mastering a series of Flipper recordings when we arrived for our session with him. Yeah, that Flipper. So we were already impressed before we even started. Obviously he has years of experience and an impressive client list behind him. But what makes Gary really great to work with is his relaxed yet very professional attitude. He makes you feel immediately comfortable with the knowledge of his craft and makes it quite clear that he is genuinely interested and personally invested in getting you the best sound for your recording.

We had a challenging mix of somewhat disparate sounding music and Gary was able to help us sequence, level and weave together our album that now truly sounds like a coherent and flowing piece of music. We are really happy with the results and look forward to working with him again.

My experience with Gary was that he is extremely knowledgeable about all phases of recording, mixing and mastering a professional quality CD. For someone like myself who was not particularly aware of the stages and specifics of the mixing, comping and mastering (as well as recording) of a seven piece jazz band, he was not only an excellent engineer but also kind and patient teacher throughout the whole process. Most importantly, his ear is incredible. And he is an accomplished bass player!

Gary has the experience of someone who has jazz, rock, blues, country ears and technical, intelligent, and sensitive characteristics to get the job done at an A++ level. I would be crazy to go to someone else for my next project.

I rarely if ever write these things but this review was begging to be written.

Mastering with Gary was fast and affordable and we really like the result. He's also very good about explaining what he's doing and why.

Gary has great ears, and he's done a fantastic job on every project we've ever brought to him.  He used to work at the old Fantasy Records in Berkeley, so he's a veteran with great stories to boot.

I'd recommend his mastering work to anybody looking for a really full, strong-sounding final record.  He has mad skills and great tools, plus he's right in the Mission -- walkable from 24th Street BART, even.
