After getting proposals from four caterers, our son and daughter-in-law chose A  Grand Affaire Catering for their wedding reception.  All the particulars were worked out between the bride and Emily (their contact with the caterer), and we were kept in the loop because this is how we helped to pay for the wedding.

Every interaction was professional and grace-filled.  Monica, the owner, has assembled a wonderful team of staff.  Professionally dressed in black with long serving aprons, they did a top-notch job of serving our guests, even my sister who has a very limited diet-- the chef, Luis, prepared something specific to her needs, and we weren't charged extra for that.

I'm trying to remember the menu -- there were these pretty little gourmet herb and pistachio encrusted chevre cheese balls, a yummy salad with a lot of good stuff in it (too blurry of a memory to recall!), a delicious bow-tie pasta with a lot of meat in the sauce, a panko style chicken.  Artisan bread.  I probably forgot some things.  Everything was really delicious.  We got a lot of compliments on the food.  The buffet presentation was just beautiful -- I've been to alot of weddings and I think this buffet was really the prettiest, with fabric and flowers to match the wedding, candlesticks, jeweled picture frames with the names of the menu items, too. A lot of detail went into the buffet set-up.

The staff was so hardworking and attentive.  Our guests began to feel welcome and taken care of from the beginning, with a passed hors d'oeuvre, and then after dinner the champagne pour.  They did a nice job of busing tables -- sometimes caterers can be over-zealous and throw out people's drinks and cake while dancing, and I didn't see them doing anything like that.

A couple of times I looked around that reception and wanted to do the happy dance.  Weddings cost a lot of money, and a good caterer can really make or break the day.

If you are a lover of elegance, and you just want really good food, served with beauty and grace, you have to give this caterer a chance.  No regrets at all.

A Grand Affaire provide a customer dinner at The Chinese Room @ Smith Tower and they did a wonderul job.  They assisted with all the food, linens, and other decore to make the night one to remember.  All of our customers came away very happy with the food and assistance from A Grand Affaire catering.   They helped creating a menu that was very special for our guests.

The staff also was wonderful in assisting with everyone of guests needs.  They were very respectful and made it a wonderful evening.

A Grand Affaire was true to its name in every sense of the word at our recent appreciation celebration for our (non-profit Northwest Harvest) friends and supporters. Monica made time BEFORE the event to plan, brainstorm and offer assistance as needed and was always in touch, including post event; very important, as anyone planning for a large event knows. At the event itself, their amazing hors d'oeuvres were "oohed and ahhed" over by our 100 plus guests. Beautiful presentation and gracious service. We can't thank enough or say enough good things about A Grand Affaire.

I'm really surprised no one else has reviewed this great catering company. We recently had them cater our wedding and our experience was terrific. Seattle is a foodie town, so like most brides here, I put a lot of emphasis on great food. After a little research into catering prices, I felt like I would probably have to lower my expectations and settle for "fine" instead of "amazing" food if I wanted to stay within budget. Lucky for me, I found A Grand Affaire and didn't have to compromise either my taste or my budget. The food was excellent - almost every guest at the wedding made a point to tell me how surprised and pleased they were that the food was SO amazing. Everything was tasty but highest marks went to their savory chevre cheesecake - an inspired dish!

In addition to that, their set menu offered great variety, including 3 entrée options. When you have friends with dietary restrictions (vegetarian, no dairy etc), you can't just offer chicken and call it good. I was also able to make a few modifications to the set menu without the price changing at all.

The experience working with the company was also stellar. We handled most everything by email and had one in-person consultation - their efficiency and competency allowed me to focus my attention on the million other things on my list. The day went off without a hitch - the crew showed up, the food showed up, dinner happened. No crises for me or anyone else to address - they just took care of business and provided yummy food. I couldn't have asked for anything more.

History

Established in 1998

Monica Newby is the original owner & operator of A Grand Affaire.  She formed the catering business and was asked to take over The Fairview Club banquet facility in downtown Seattle.  Quickly she branched out from on-premise to off-premise catering as well.  Over the last 13 years they have had locations in Seattle and Tacoma and have become preferred caterers at upscale venues such as The Chinese Room at the Smith Tower and The Burke Museum at UW.  Currently the main office and kitchen are in First Hill Seattle and they are able to cater anywhere within 2 hours of Seattle.   As a boutique style small business their claim to fame is the personal service, experience and reasonable pricing they offer to make each event "A Grand Affaire at a great value."

Meet the Business Owner: Monica N.

Monica Newby founded A Grand Affaire Catering in 1998 after taking ownership of The Fairview Club, an upscale banquet facility in downtown Tacoma.  Prior to that she worked in restaurants and catering companies mainly in the Tacoma-Seattle area (with a stint in Denver while attending the Colorado Institute of Art) from 1985 on.  In 1989 she got a "real job" and became a Licensed Broker's Assistant for Raymond James Financial and later attended the College For Financial Planning to become a Certified Financial Planner.  However, during all of this time she still had the "hospitality bug" and moonlighted in restaurants and catered at the Tacoma Club and the Sheraton Hotel.   Finally in 1996 she decided to follow her dream in the restaurant industry and moved to Seattle to take a job as the Restaurant Manager at the Edgewater Hotel.  In 1998 she had the opportunity to work as the Catering Director at The Fairview Club, and 6 months later took over that business and founded A Grand Affaire
