Review from Lauren R.

The sandwiches are really good here. I've had a few of the side salads as well and haven't been disappointed. My favorite sandwich is comes with salame (I add mortadella), olive tapenade, provolone, and arugala on ciabatta. They also have a variety of specialty foods like olive oils, fresh pasta, sauces, wines, and cheeses. Everything is really good but pretty expensive; like my favorite tuna that comes in a glass jar or $12.
The people who work here have always been very nice and friendly. I never mind splurging $10 on an amazing sandwich when the staff is that accommodating.
Fresh pastas and sauces and Italian delicacies of sorts. I recommend completely. Just go on pay day. -

Sandwiches are great and reasonably priced, but I just paid $16 for a little plastic bin of olives. Way way way over priced. In hindsight, I wish I had left them at the register and not bought them.

They have great food. A place to hang out if you are not going to Italy anytime soon. You should not leave the store without any prosciutto purchase unless you don't eat pork. I love their white truffle salt, it is the best seasoning for home cooking. BTW - truffle with scramble egg is really tasty.

Oh snobby Italian sandwich/grocer...
1. You have a very bizarro lay out. You are laid out like a unicorn hoof... start at the right to order your sandwich. Pick a side. Head toward the back for a drink. Pass through the rainbow of delicious cheese and meats and random items. And u-turn all the way back to where you started to the cashier. Odd.
2. Your sandwiches are pretty tasty, but a bit on the higher end of the lunchtime sandwich market in this area. Sandwiches are in the $10 range. BUT you somehow managed to leave out the meat in my panini! I gobbled half a sandwich before I asked my hubby, "Um, what exactly did you order? Turkey? Um, where's the turkey?" You did kindly replace my sandwich... although by then I was stuffed with so much deliciously grilled carbs.
3. Let me specify not all of you are snobby, but one particular cashier who never smiles until he sees a nice piece of... um, womanly assets from the JCC come through. Yep, true story.
So overall... good sandwiches and you sell orangina. Plus!
You're a little pricier than the rest, the sandwich making is a little slow, and you can be snobby... big downer!
So really just ok. -

I had an appointment with my Orthodontist across the street(I normally see him downtown, but had to trek out to this office one day). I had a few minutes to eat, and the place seemed pretty inviting. All the guys who worked there looked so hot! They were very friendly, and gave me the best service. I had the tuscan bean soup and it was perfect. I want to come back and try some of the sandwiches, and look at the "eye candy" again!!

Review from Jacob P.
I found the flow of the place less than intuitive: order here, pay on the opposite end of the place. They also seemed to arbitrarily restrict what could be selected as a side, even if the items were the same price; I thought that was dumb. I ended up getting something I really didn't want.
Flavor and freshness get a thumbs up
Flow and speed of service; thumbs down :( -
Review from Jenny K.
One of my favorite foods ever is nothing but a simple and delicious sandwich. It contains nothing but bread, a few greens, a slice of cheese and salty, tasty meat!
Cured meat is one of my weaknesses and A.G. Ferrari knows how to get to my weakspot. This meat and cheese shop is close to work and convenient for when I need to make a quick pit-stop for lunch/dinner before going to work.
Price-wise, this place is not as cheap as Subway but I think you do get the quality of what you're paying for. I've read some of the reviews and some say they're frugal with their meat? I will have to disagree with that. They sure won't give you a lb worth but it was enough to fill the sandwich.
My favorite sandwich from A.G. Ferrari is their #11 Friuli-VenezIa gIulIa
Prosciutto di San Daniele. Nothing but fresh mozzarella, red leaf lettuce, tomatoes and extra virgin olive oil on focaccia. All of that for $10.99, grab a fancy water that says "product of Italy" and you'll have yourself a fine-dine meal for just $15 or less.Listed in: S is for Sammies

You have to try all their sandwiches! They are to die for. The pesto spread is BOMB! They are a little pricey but well worth it. The cheese selection is fabulous. They also have great wine selection.... I heart A.G. Ferrari's!

I'm borderline obsessed with this place.
I work in the area at another food establishment and love wandering in here. Their sandwiches are gourmet, creative, delicious and basically the epitome of a perfect sandwich. I can't help but wonder why people come into my workplace and order a sandwich, that costs MORE money than AG and it's not even a comparable sandwich. This place is RIGHT THERE. I even get free food at my work and will fully walk to this place and pay $7.50 for their deliciousness. It's that good, people.
Even when I have no intentions of buying anything I still love coming in here and trying all their cheeses! They have different samples everyday, and it's always some fancy cheese I've never tried and it's always delicious. I love everything about this place. -

Super friendly customer service and some really great menu items. The sandwich list was super fancy. I tried #18 Emilia Romagna with Prosciutto di Parma, red leaf lettuce, mozzarella and extra virgin olive oil
on a toasted piadina.
It was delicious and I want to go back and try everything on the menu, like stat! A little bit on the pricier side but it's definitely the fancy sandwich worth the extra $2. -

Listen up AG Ferrari employees of Laurel Heights:
Take those Italian breadsticks out of your ass because guess what? This isn't Italy and you're not Italian. So leave your snobby Euro attitudes outside the door.
But keep making those paninis cuz they're really good.
But your $5 tomato sauces suck- I can buy tomato paste and mix in some fresh basil leaves for $4 less. Which means I could buy one of your flourless chocolate tortes with the difference. Those are really good too.
Dammit! If y'all were nicer and your food was priced a little more reasonably I wouldn't feel so wracked with despair every time I'm sucked into your pseudo-Italy land. -

Every time we come here, twice now, we decide we wont be back. This time we mean it.
The sandwiches are over priced and stingy with the meat and very bland.
The foccacia is too doughy and the filling : bread ratio is grossly skewed. Their products are also overpriced and since I dont cook italian food, they dont appeal to me anyway. The people that work there are ok, semi friendly.
This place will do in a total pinch but I am not a fan. -

Super Duper friendly service and great sandwiches and deli foods have me coming back all the time for lunch! There's a sandwich that i've always wanted to try but unfortunately they can't ever make it because they don't the the black truffle oil anymore, i want that sandwich! it's going to be my holy grail...
love this place, keep doing what you're doing! -

San Francisco, CA
Recently, I had a sandwich from the deli section at A G Ferrari Foods. It was an Emiliano - proscuitto served on focaccia bread. It was delicious. A bit overpriced, but still good.
When I am here I will shop for various raviolis, spaghetti & linguine noodles and biscotti. They also carry Steckly Torrone, a nougat candy bar with almonds specially made in Italy. (very difficult to find)
A G Ferrari is a great change of pace from shopping at the supermarket. -
Review from Ted R.
A G Ferrari is the expensive Italian sports car of sandwich shops. The sandwiches are good, but expen$ive. Groceries too. You wanna linger on how hot they look just sitting there, but the real fun happens when you put the pedal to the metal...start chompin' one of these sandwiches and you'll see how fast they go...too fast.
Love the cheese samples, they're free. The wines I've bought are delicious, though not so hot on the value scale. Since I'm not drawn to purchase that many pricy, imported Italian goods for my kitchen, I'll rate just the goods at 3 stars. Gotta rate the panini separately tho, coz this is a bangin' sandwich shop, it's four stars all the way. Good god, is the foccacia heavenly! The tender, roasted pork loin of the Fiorintino sammy makes my engine race. The Tuscan pecorino and garlic mayonnaise kick it into that magical sixth gear. 5 star sandwich. If that sandwich was any sexier I'd...drive it.
*It's worth paying for premium - ante up for lunch and you'll have a full-performance sunny day at the outside tables here. -
Review from Mimi T.
I've stopped in from time to time to grab cheese or a sandwich. While it hasn't been earth shattering..I've enjoyed my selections.
On my way to see a friend last night, I stopped in for a bottle of wine. I don't know much about Italien wines so I needed help from the staff. The two guys there were super friendly and within minutes I was out the door with a nice bottle of Sangiovese.
I'd frequent the place more often if it was closer to me. -

So this place is one of my favorite places to eat in this area if I'm looking sandwich wise. Noah's Bagels across the street is good if you're feeling in the mood for something mainstream and a lot cheaper. A.G Ferrari Foods has the feel of a small family owned business. You will spend a little more here (which is why I docked a star, 11$ for a sandwich of leaves, tomato, prosciutto on focaccia with a small side salad of faro and beans) you wont be disappointed. This has the feel of a very small whole foods with just the Italian foods picked out. They have a great variety of not only prepared foods but little interesting imports from dried meats to little candies. If you love little shops that have products you wont find anywhere else this is definitely the place for you. The food here is really fantastic.

I give 'em 4 duckets for their olives!! If you need to pull together a meal F-A-S-T:
-gourmet olives
-sweet baguette w/ salami and a dry cheese (oh they'll help you pick it)
-Pesto Lasagna (seasonal only....so NOW!)
-A couple of Amaretti Baratti
Pair it all w/ a Zin blend, some candles and a little Barry White... and call me Thurston Howell the 3rd. "Ready Lovey?" -
Review from Denise M.
This store has awesome stuff! Too many goodies to chose from. Lots of cheeses, specialty meats, and ready made foods - a last minute picnic is always tempting, and totally doable.
A bit overpriced, so this is definitely a 'treat yourself' place for me - but when I do decide to splurge - it's so worth it. -

Friendly staff, good sandwiches, nice outside tables when it's sunny out (the traffic is noisy, but you take the outside when you can get it in SF). Just a bit overpriced, in my opinion.

I can't believe I've waited this long to review AG. Ive been a fan for years and was THRILLED when they opened a shop in my neighborhood.
I feel like I'm here all the time - either stopping by on my way home from work to pick up some dinner fixin's or grabbing cheese and wine for quick appetizers or some olives for the house. There are also good meal ideas or you can never go wrong with the pre-made lasagna or macaroni and cheese (this is NOT Kraft Macaroni and Cheese!)
I also like to stop in on the weekend and pick up sandwiches on my way home from running errands. My boy is from New York and AG makes sandwiches that transport him home - well as far as a copolla on dutch crunch can take him anyway. Its always a lively scene with kids and employees and couples trying to look like Italian hipsters roaming about.
The ready made and stock food items are top-notch. Only the finest ingredients and Italian labels find their way inside,a and while their prices are not cheap - they are well deserved. -

There is good things and not so good things about A.G. Ferrari.
Sometimes the staff is super nice and helpful and other times they are indifferent. I like other people who have written reviews have had mix ups on sandwich orders or forgotten orders all together. I'm probably not going to use their deli anymore. Nothing is that good that makes me want to come back for more. The desserts are... meh.
I bought some of the fresh pasta today and it was quite good. Bonus, I could buy a single bottle of Moretti as well.
I would go for the occasional cheese purchase. Maybe a pre-made sandwich. Maybe. -

Minus one star for the prices -- $7-8 for a sandwich. But it could be that I still have country-mouse sticker shock...
Anyway, this is my favorite place to go for sandwiches in my hood. Order the pork tenderloin sandwich (the one with the pesto) or the tuna. They're both divine. The staff here is really refreshing and friendly, although last time I went in they got my sandwich order wrong, and I didn't discover it until I had walked a zillion blocks and was starving. So I ate it -- tomato and fresh mozz -- anyway, despite a slight lactose intolerance, and decided the gassy aftermath was worth it. -

Ok, in the interest of full disclosure, I think I have a little crush on the Italian man working here. But that crush developed after I discovered his passion about wine and food. He'll help me pick out a good wine and then have me taste every cheese in the store until I find the perfect one for my wine. The man has never steered me wrong in either category - and he flirts just enough to make you feel complimented without being creepy.
The wine, the cheese, the prepared foods are all delicious! I'm pretty picky about the food I serve and would rather make everything myself, but their lasagna is absolutely perfect when I'm running short of time. And the service, well, I think I covered that part already.... -

This place just makes it so easy for me. I go there and I buy:
- a sourdough baguette
- olives
- cheese
...and off I go to a concert in the park, a party, a friend's house, or wherever I happen to be off to that day.
I love that they offer cheese samples - my standby is the valentina cesara (always a good choice), but I like to be able to try different kinds.
There used to be a guy there who would throw a couple of those delicious chocolates they keep at the cash register in my bag whenever I came in. What happened to that guy? Now I have to pay for those little chocolates, bummer (but they're so good!). -

I personally like the old Italian delis with the sausages drying overhead on racks, etc., but this place has its own charm. At least I never have to worry about where the food has been and how long they've been sitting there.
I used them to cater my company's holiday reception last year and the responses were all positive.
I may just use them again this year if I can't come up with a different style of food.
Parking around the area's kind of tough if you plan on picking up lots of stuff from here, otherwise, plenty of parking around nearby Laurel Village.
Update: I did end up using them again. Still got lots of positive responses. I ended up negotiating a delivery rate with them for curb side delivery. -

Okay I have a new favorite sandwich stop! The hot paninis here are mouth-watering! I had to force myself to stop eating even when I wasn't hungry, because it just tastes THAT good! I tried one of their Suplis which was a battered ball that is stuffed with risotto and parmesan.
It is a pretty hoity-toity deli that offers a wide range of wines, pastas, cheeses and sauces. They sell pre-made pasta dishes that you can heat up at home in our oven that I most likely will have to try some time! -

San Francisco, CA
AG Ferrari is a favorite lunch destination. Their sandwiches are fabu and they have a number of different styles as well as fillings. My favorite is the Genovese: smoked turkey, greens, and tomatoes slathered in slurpilicious pesto aioli on super soft olive oil focaccia. The grilled panini and baguette sandwiches are also great, as are the pure and simple flatbread sandwiches, which are basically Italian quesadillas. Want something off menu? They'll toss together ingredients any way you want. So live it up, have them throw some meatballs on a baguette or meatloaf in a panini. Why not?
Great selections of olive oils, cheese, and wine. They also have an extensive array of prepared foods, both in the refrigerated section and at the deli counter. These are hit and miss, but when they're good, they are REALLY good. -

I live on Clement and am surrounded by a delicious array of Oriental Restaurants. Today, for lunch, i was craving the classic staple: a sandwich.
I proceeded to A.G. Ferraris on California and left with a smile on my face.
It wasn't just a quick bite; it was an experience.
The sandwich man was knowledgeable and helpful. One of the friends i had attended, had never been, and the employee simply said, "don't worry i'll whip up something delcious for you."
As we waited for our sandwich, we perused the store and noticed the wide variety of Italian cheeses and meats. Another employee, unobtrusively offered us assistance and briefed us on the quality of different cheeses, without pushing the sale too hard.
I felt as though i was being serviced in a grocery store, i was almost inclined to tip. Oh yea, and at the register they have a sample of italian wine to wash the delightful experience down.
5 undisputed stars. -

I'm sorry I'm so harsh with restaurants or shops that market themselves as Italian in SF. Turns out I grew up in Italy and I feel like I can be pretty honest about what is good Italian stuff and what isn't. A.G. Ferrari is ok. The good: great sandwiches, and most of the stuff they sell is Italian, as opposed to being some weirdo Italian American deal that would make no sense to anyone nel Bel Paese (see Lucca for that).
The bad: most of the stuff A.G. Ferrari sells is expensive but not super high quality. In other words, a lot of their produce would be considered mediocre in Italy, but it's sold as some super high quality Italian secret.
BTW, some of their employees have NO idea on how to cut prosciutto. Don't but it there, it'll just be painful.
At the end of the day I'm shocked to report that the best place in the Bay Area to buy Italian produce is... Costco. I shit you not. The best Mozzarella, Prosciutto, and wines are all there, in the temple of American capitalism that so little shares with Italy. weird. -

This place got pretty busy around lunch time, which is usually a good sign, except for the sub-par service. But I felt like it would've been unfair to give too low a score.
The sandwich itself was just o-k. On the menu, I was attracted to the idea of fresh basil and other veggies, but it definitely did not read the same on my palate. The sandwich was pretty dry and flavorless, which was surprising. How do you add a bunch of ingredients and make them taste like nothing together? I don't know, but they did it! They have a nice menu and lots of good finger foods on display. I guess I just got the short end of that stick. Perhaps I'll give it another shot another time. -

I wasn't going to yelp this place. Had been to the other ons, remember a delicious sandwich from the castro location that made for the perfect picnic at Dolores Park, and some good chicken from the soma location. To finish the A.G. Ferrari trifecta, I stopped by this location and took home some of their house roasted turkey to make a sandwich as well as a burrito filling.
Didn't think it was going to be worth a yelp.
Had my sandwich for lunch. Just finished the burrito for dinner. This was probably the best turkey I've ever had. Not cheap. But the best. Worth every penny. -

I love this store!
Came here with a friend to grab lunch to go for a picnic in Mount Tam. I thought it was weird that he would suggest such an out of the way place to get lunch but I went along with it and glad I did.
He got a turkey sandwich and I got a box of grilled veggies (eggplant, zucchini, and red bell pepper) and caprese salad. My grilled veggies were divine!!! I LOVE the smell as you eat it... that smoky grill smell you get through your tastes buds... every bit was utterly satisfying. The caprese could have used some more basils but it was still very good.
Service was great! Very nice folks and helpful. Will definitely come back by myself or with friends. -

AG Ferrari has a lot of delicious things. The deli case is awesome, and the fresh pasta is also great. Some items are pretty affordable, whereas others are a little expensive. If you love specialty Italian foods that you can't find most places, then this is the store for you.

It's better than average for a "super market" deli and I find myself there at least once a week. My usual is the Italian combo that's not on the menu. Genoa salami, mortadella and prosciutto on ciabatta.
For what it's worth, and since there are no Italian delis in my vicinity, it works for me.
I read one reviewer saying that it's "hit and miss" and I have to agree. But I'm never really disappointed...only when they slather way too much mayo or misunderstand what I want sometimes and I get the "high end" meats, the next thing you know I'm paying $11 for a sandwich. That's kinda steep for just a sandwich. -

What's a gluten-free diva to do with a sweet fix and no time to bake? Get A.G. Ferrari's flourless chocolate cake or the almond apricot cake. When it comes to the deli food I save it for the occasional splurge.

This place fits very well in Lauren Village. They have a nice selection of speciality pastas and their own pasta sauces (which by the way are very tasty). They have good sandwiches and panini's, which while a bit pricy, are still very good.
The staff seems nice, nothing to complain about. The one guy who is always at the checkout is Italian, so that adds to the authenticity of this place. -

While it's true that life can be complicated, a truly good sandwich shouldn't be. Step inside the doors of A. G. Ferrari Foods, and you'll find a wealth of simple, Italian deli delights. Immaculate glass cases house a range of ready-made lasagnas, pastas, salads, tortas, frittatas, and meats. All taste as fresh and sumptuous as they look. Meander over to the extensive olive bar, and create your own mix of goodies for late-afternoon noshing later. Don't miss browsing the aisles for traditional biscotti--or the fresh case for take-home raviolis and sauces. It's one stop shopping for tonight's dinner made easy. Another bonus? Service here is always with an authentic smile and friendly words. My personal favorite on the menu? Number 18: prosciutto and mozzarella (grilled). A. G. Ferrari Foods: simply splendid.
