Fantastic! I just moved to the area and my roommates recommended this place when I said I was looking for someplace local and delicious for a simple bite to eat.
Me: the special - shredded portobella prepared pulled-pork style, on top of a belgian waffle and garnished with avocado slices.
My Dad: a tuna melt and a cup of tomato soup.
Delicious! Great, calm service and a lovely place to catch up with Pops without breaking the bank.
Also ... bring your own wine! -

Took a date here over the other weekend. The price is pretty inexpensive and you get large portions. I had a breakfast burrito which was excellent. My date had the vegan french toast which to me tasted pretty bland.
If I had to find a negative it is that the staff is a bit slow. It was busy but not packed and a few times we saw staff standing around talking while we waited for more water and coffee. -

I have polorizing views about this local eatery. I love the food. The prices are nice, not too expensive and you get quite a bit of food. The breakfast burritos are fantastic. The toads in a hole with bacon are a real treat. And their pancakes and french toast would surely be on my list of items for a last meal before execution. However, their service is a big let down. I can't knock the individuals because they are courtious as can be, however they seem stressed to no end and constantly run about with frantic looks on their faces forgetting orders and dropping things. I think it has more to do with the layout and popularity of the small venue. They recently renovated and there is less room to sit inside. But I often find myself stressing out after watching the wait staff rush about.
A nice bonus is reading the walls in the bathroom, which are painted in chalkboard paint. It seems everyone has something to say.
So read the writing on the walls, great food at a good price if you are willing to endure the stress from a frantic wait staff. -

A Full Plate did the catering for a work event I planned. They were great. Responsive, reasonably priced, and the food was fantastic. I will definitely use them again. For larger events, they will also work with party rental companies, so you don't have deal with multiple vendors. That's a great time saver.

Review from Erica C.
We had food from A Full Plate at the craft fair at Penn's Landing today. It was the only remotely healthy option available, so we decided to try it. Although we really enjoyed the food, I was disappointed in the portion for the price. At $8, I would have wanted at least 3 falafel balls rather than 2. The pita tasted healthy, which I loved, but it kept cracking and crumbling (not sure if it was the grain or that it was stale). The falafel were delicious and didn't taste deep fried like they often do. I'm guessing their food in the restaurant is really good, as was our food at the fair, but I struggled with $8 for 2 falafel balls on a pita.

I've always really enjoyed A Full Plate. I've been going here for almost five years now, and I always enjoy a delicious meal. One of my favorite things is I'm vegan with a lot of omnivore friends and this is somewhere we can go and all find something we like - from vegan mac & cheese to chicken and waffles and a lot of stuff in between. Highly recommended!

Terrible.
I had the Greek Plate. The plate came with quinoa tabouleh. The tzatziki was obviously made with low-fat yogurt. The hummus was pasty. Nothing had much flavor.
Between my and my friends' dishes, the whole meal felt like the chef was trying to improve upon recipes by making it healthier and more like Stuff White People Like, and in doing so ruining the taste.
I'm sad to say it was the worst meal I've had out in a long time. -
Review from Rizwan A.
If you're easily impressed by simplistic "innovation" tactics (eg using a jar for water and putting a chalkboard in the bathroom) then go buy your ticket to this place and get in line. This is one of those trendy spots where sometimes it seems like more emphasis is on decor and signage than on good cooking. Hipsters will love it; savory brunch aficionados-- look elsewhere.
I really didn't enjoy my food here but the overall experience was okay, I guess.
I had the huevos rancheros and was pretty disappointed. It was just nothing like a real huevos rancheros and I wish they would have written that on the menu. "Not typical huevos rancheros-- hipster huevos rancheros instead." I would have known to avoid them.
The other Mexican food items weren't really good either and the only ethnic thing about them was their name.
The chicken and waffles were pretty random too, despite being a simple dish to prepare (fried chicken + waffle... the end.)
The maple BBQ sauce: Inventive? Yes. DISGUSTING? Yes!
Emo-waitress girl did not help matters. We probably didn't sound vegan enough for her to care.
Will not go back and will also attempt to talk others out of going here. Overpriced bland food that is overhyped by vegan fans of this place. Good luck guys, you'll need it.Listed in: Not worth it

Went here on a Saturday for brunch. They get one star for outdoor seating and water in mason jars (nice presentation!)
We both ordered huevos rancheros. How can huevos be served without salsa? Or cheese? Or sour cream? Why was the tortilla fried to a crisp so that it was unable to be eaten with a fork? Why giant red beans instead of black beans or refried beans? Why was that egg so tiny? These are just some of the questions that came to my mind while trying to eat this. Even though I was ravenous upon arrival I ended up leaving about half the food on my plate. Very dissapointing and unsatisfying. I am a vegetarian and I will not return here with the many other good brunch places in the neighborhood. -

Friendly service, though my friends and I definitely seemed to show up on a slow night. So maybe our waitress was feeling a little lonely, and we were providing the company. Haha.
Granted the food was pretty good, and pretty much an average price compared to most other restaurants I've been to, I was far too busy staring at the decorations. Fun looking swirls and jagged designs all over the place, including the tabletops.
There also seemed to be a chalkboard theme here. In fact, the entire bathroom is a chalkboard (well, except for the essentials like the toilet and sink....though that would be interesting...), with people having written and drawn all kinds of things all over the walls. Much to my surprise, they were all mature about it, too! No random penis or boob drawings! I saw a bunch of insightful quotes and cute poems at the time I walked in.
It makes me feel a little wrong, simply because it would be a bitch on my wallet, but I kinda want to come back here again just so I can go on a drawing frenzy in the bathroom. -

I had heard about the granola encrusted vegan French toast, but wow. It filled me up so well. This is the first food I had after a wild wedding with friends. Just the medicine I needed.

Hipster-vegan cornucopia -- all that really needs to be said. If you are a fan of said atmosphere and cuisine then you will be easily pleased here.
The decor is fun..write something on the chalkboard in the bathroom...make it extra creepy.
Their portions are phenomenal. Order a "small plate" of fries and you get a healthy serving of thick sweet potato and standard white fries together. Perfect for the one who can never choose between the two.
As for the food, I've only dabbled as far as the Turkey Club. This is my new favorite sandwich in Philadelphia when going for comfort food. It is not the thinly sliced deli turkey meat one on a diet would consume, but rather the intimidatingly large thanksgiving turkey cuts that someone ravenous for meat would slobber over. The bacon is cooked to perfection. There are some sweet potatoes, thinly sliced, crunchy yet delicious. The BEST component is the cranberry mayo. Do yourself a favor and ask for a decent amount of it. You will not be let down!
Plenty of vegan options which I have not tried and probably never will but definitely a good place to go for a carnivore-herbivore date. No one will be upset. -
Review from Kim L.

I'm having trouble understanding how this place gets better-than-mediocre reviews. I assume it's the vegans talking. Let me give you the perspective of one who prioritizes taste and service over meat-content...
Yes, there are lots of vegan and vegetarian options on the menu. Maybe they taste better than the vegan-vegetarian options elsewhere. But on the whole, the food is downright mediocre. Tonight I had a grilled chicken salad. The chicken tasted like the dried-up stuff that comes out of a Foreman Grill. I also had the mac n'cheese. While I appreciated that it was made with whole wheat pasta, I was disappointed by its blandness. Last time I was here I ordered fried chicken. That was no better than average either. So I've been here twice and both times was underwhelmed. No, it's not crazy expensive, but still overpriced for mediocre food.
Now you might be saying, "Kim, if it's simply mediocre, why not give it 3 stars like a decent human being?" Excellent question. The answer: they lose an additional star for consistently bad service. Upon each visit, the service was slow and the server was, well, a bit rude. I noticed that they often have only one server handling a large number of tables. I assume this accounts for both the slow service and the surly attitudes. I might be crossing a line here, but might I suggest having an additional server during the meal shifts? -

Fantastic place!! Came here for lunch with my mom. We sat down right away, and there were only 2 other tables seated. The server was super friendly and helpful.
Our food came out quick, and it was delicious. I had the chicken salad sandwich, which was probably enough to feed at least two people! But awesome.
The decor was great, and the vibe in the place made me feel right at home. I'll definitely be back! -

Review from Connie S.
NoLibs restaurant cafe with a menu that caters equally to vegetarians, vegans, and meat-eaters with home-cookin' Southern influenced food. It's a very eclectic mix of offerings with sprinklings of nutrition-packed power foods (ie: kale, quinoa, brussel sprouts) along with some good ole fatty meat (like riblets and fried chicken).
I was very pleased with the:
- Catfish Po' Boy: (deepfried seasoned catfish served on a long roll with lettuce, pickles, and remoulade)
- Side Mac and Cheese: (made with 3 cheeses and multi-grain pasta). Fresh ingredients, good flavor, generous portions
Feeling 'meh' about:
- Spinach and Black Bread Salad: wish there were more grilled veggies, and wasn't really feelin' the pumpernickel toast
- Ginger Soy Kale: Solid, but a pretty small portion, even for a side
- Belgian Waffle Ice Cream Sandwich: it's a pet peeve of mine when restaurants call what is a pretty standard waffle a Belgian waffle- these were definitely regular waffles, except may be a little mealier in texture. However, I thoroughly enjoyed the enormous scoops of "motor oil" ice cream (coffee with caramel/coffee swirls) inside.
Our servers were super patient and helpful, and maybe it is just the NoLibs atmosphere but they just made me feel so relaxed and calm.
When it's nice out, the outdoor seating along Liberties Walk is a prime location for eating leisurely and people watching. I also love how the water glasses are huge jars. Very cute.
Overall it's reliable comfort food, albeit with little that's unexpected, in a pleasant atmosphere. -

This place is an ideal lunch spot.
I came here on Good Friday with a buddy of mine after a morning run. I was observing the whole "no meat" thing and we got a tip to check out A Full Plate. I'm really glad we did.
It's got great styling inside. The decor is patchwork and nothing matches yet they made it look cool. I'm a fan.
They serve One Village Coffee and they brew it right.
My crabcake sandwich was delicious. It was served with a tangy remoulade sauce on a nice buttery bun and along side, this chickpea ceviche invention. It was awesome. We also tried the au gratin brussels sprouts which were also really good.
I'll definitely be back here to eat my way through the menu.Listed in: VEG - PHL

I've lived above A Full Plate for the past year, and I am moving tomorrow so it seems fitting for me to review it.
I really like eating brunch here compared to Honey's (and not only because I live above it) because the food is very unique and original. The ever changing menu has things I have never even heard of or knew could go together. That being said they also do an awesome job at standard food like grilled cheese (the BEST).
It's also not too pricey compared to other cafes in the area. I'm really not into the mismatched interior design inside but they have great outdoor seating.
I will miss you Full Plate and your awesome playlist of indie tunes that filled my bedroom in the mornings. -

Kind of the lesser version of Honey's. Casual diner-ish atmosphere. Food was okay - I got a fried green tomato salad, which was mostly just mixed greens and not much fried green tomato or fresh mozzarella. I didn't really ask around but most of the others I was eating with seemed to feel the same way - all of the food was okay.
Service was on point - our server took a very large group like a champ. They are BYOB which I loved, and use jars for glasses, which I loved even more. -

Its a nice place to sit down and chat with someone, and the food is pretty good. I think it's a good spot. The food's not rediculous but it's solid and really good ambiance for hanging out with people.

BYOB for a nice evening sitting outside enjoying the area.
Shrimp Po boy was on point, and crab cakes were a good size (2) with alot of crab. We ordered the vegan mac & cheese, and it wasn't as hot as we would have liked, but it was surprising good...for two avowed carnivores.
Hush puppies were spot on. Light, enjoyable.
Its not great, but its good. My only gripe was that the crab was done before the shrimp, and they served it. I would have rather waited and been served together.
The had a great apple oatmeal crisp, with vanilla icecream for dessert. It was very good, warm and crunchy.
After applying a $25 Gift certificate, the bill came to $11.72, and you can't beat that with a stick! -

Been here a couple times already. A Full Plate has become one of my go to's for dinner before a show at Johnny Brenda's. Great tasting sides, especially the hush puppies.
Also, the vegetarian riblet sandwich. Ahhhh. It's so, so, so good. Make sure you get it done Ben's way, with onions and cheese.
The crack and cheese is fantastic too!
I hope to venture out and try other things on the menu but that damn riblet sandwich is always calling my name... -

The brisket was amazing and tender. The Indian chicken was also amazing. Everyone is friendly and they are always coming up with new and unique items!
The outdoors area is dog friendly I always take myself and my dog up for dinner at least once a week! -
Review from Clara L.
My Chicken and Waffles cherry has been popped with a very good rendition, albeit an untraditional one. The southern classic is usually served with gravy and sounds greasy enough to induce a heart attack, but a Full Plate serves it with Maple BBQ sauce, a tasty and healthier approach.
The waffle is whole wheat which is perfectly golden brown on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. On top sits 3 strips of chicken breast breaded with corn meal and deep fried to a dark brown. The chicken breast is wonderfully juicy, and the crust is crispy. One slight engineering problem: breading was like a shell that fell of the chicken as I was slicing it.
It also came with a slice of jalapeno cornbread, which is a fad. The cornbread was decent with the appropriate kick, but it was a little dry. Quite frankly, you could make a better version with Trader Joe's Cornbread mix and some fresh jalapeno, which means that I would not pay money at a restaurant for it.
This is certainly a Southern Classic with a twist, and I paid $12 for it. A bit overpriced? yes.
Was it worth a try? Yes. Will I have cravings for it? No. -

A Full Plate...more like A Full Big Ole' Belly!
I really dig this spot for a couple of reasons...
- Cozy, Laid Back & Funky Artistic Environment
- Never too Crowded (Great for a group of friends)
- Wickedly Awesome Multigrain Mac & Cheese
- BYOB
- Vegan Options
- Kick Ass Homemade Desserts
- Tasty Brunch Options
Of course just like any other restaurant.. they have their little flaws, but not so bad that it would keep me from coming back.
My suggestion - At Dinner, do not order ANY of the catfish or Fried App Dishes and stick to the entrees, specials and mac & cheese or even house suggestions. TRUST ME ;-) -

FAIL.
Went here with a date on Sat. night. They had one (1) waitress and one (1) chef, both hipsters, on duty. Ordered drinks and dinner. Seventy (70 - you read it right) minutes later our food comes out, and they had screwed up my date's order. I slapped a $20 down on the table and we walked out (to El Camino Real, to whom I've previously given 5 stars). I returned moments later demanding my money back for the singular worst service I had ever received. To their credit, they didn't try to fight me on that point. It also turned out that there was no owner or manager on duty on a Saturday night in the busiest restaurant district in the city. WTF?!
Overall, ZERO (0) STARS. EPIC FAIL. WOULD NOT RETURN. Hipsters have got to realize that they can't only choose to serve other hipsters with alacrity, there are a wide mix of people in Philly. -

A Full Plate is aptly named--my barely touched plate was just as full at the end of the meal as it was at the start. The food could best be described as a modern spin on southern classics. By modern spin I mean, yuck gross. My date was equally displeased.
Do not order the dry waffles. Do not order the bland chicken. Do not order the iced tea.
I'm not so sure that you should order anything at all. Just go elsewhere. -

DELICIOUS.
Creative, comforting food, but what really is wonderful are the many vegan and vegetarian options. Vegan mac n' cheese? Vegetarian chili? Brussel sprouts? Hellz to the yes.
The restaurant itself is clean and comfortable. It should be noted that they were severely understaffed. They had one guy running around doing everything--taking orders, serving, and bussing tables. Poor guy was sweating bullets! Luckily I was in no hurry at the time, but if I had been I'm sure I would have been a little P.O.'d that it took 10 minutes just to get water.
Besides, the food is so freakin' delicious it was worth the wait. -

Came here for brunch on a Saturday. My bf and I drove by Honey Sit'N Eats and we were worried that A full plate wouldn't have any seatings! Fortunately, there were some tables outside, and the day was nice enough for us to sit outside. The place is small, very hipsterish (it is in the northern liberties area), nice vibe.
We came for brunch, but more specifically for the chicken and waffle. They were only serving what was on their brunch menu so I couldn't see what they served other times. Anyway, we got chicken and waffle, and the breakfast burrito (southwestern style). Chicken and waffle was pretty good, they used a bbq syrup of some sort (boy said maple would have been better). Chicken was nicely battered and crispy. Honestlyyy, I really didn't think it was anything super special though. I guess I hyped it up to myself since my brother recommended me to go here on a LivingSocial deal. My breakfast burrito was also okay. More eggs than chicken, and could have used a salsa on the side or something to top over the burrito, other than a whip of sour cream on top..
Not bad, they had other interesting menu choices that I'd come back to try. We both agreed that this place is about 3 to 3.5 stars. -

A Full Plate Catered my sons wedding with 66 meals on 10-30-10.
Our guests raved about the food. No one but the Bride & Groom were vegetarian, and everybody loved it! The food was great quality, set up was fast and on time. I would use them again without hesitation! -

Came to this place for brunch as we had a http://Restaurant.com gift certificate. It unfortunately couldn't be used because it was meant for dinner only. Damn that fine print.
We decided to stay for brunch regardless. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. I got a Southern Huevos Rancheros which is a nice spin on the original idea. Can't entirely recall what was in it but trust me, it was good.
My girlfriend got the most amazing looking tofu scramble ever. I'm a straight up carnivore but it had me a little jealous. I might have to get that next time, should we return for brunch.
I also had a chicken tortilla soup which was pretty phenomenal.
Pricing was fair, service was attentive and friendly.
There's also a good amount of vegetarian and vegan options available which is always good to see, even for a meat eater such as myself. -

LOVE LOVE LOVE!
The food selections are completely original. Many vegan/vegetarian options, as well as some unique everyone-friendly options.
The mashed potatoes (only served in the winter are so amazing!). I'm also a huge fan of the monster wrap, the sunflower veggie burger, vegan chili, and the vegan french toast with granola was one of the greatest vegan options I've ever tried.
Prepare to try something new when you come here or don't bother coming. If you come and expect quick service, I'd say you need to chill out and relax. Remember, everything is made fresh so just hang out, talk, go write on the bathroom walk (with chalk!), and people (or dog!) watch.
They have limited outdoor seating that is so much fun in the summer.
BTW: the lemonade = the bomb!!!
I think the only thing holding this back from a 5 star review is that I've had a few encounters here with food that was SO spicy that I literally could not eat it. It would be different if I realized I was ordering such spicy food, but it was not clearly advertised. I must say though, on one occasion they were completely accommodating and bought me different food, insisting that I "must eat" even though I repeatedly told them I didn't want to be a pain in the you know what.
The restaurant is pricey, but worth it!
PS: they are somewhat dog friendly when not busy :)
I will be returning shortly. -

As a super-regular of A Full Plate, I figure I should update my review, since it's been a year or so.
It has only gotten better in the interim. Regarding the food, some brunch places do sweet really well (see- Devil's Alley) while other kick butt with savory (the Royal Tavern, Hawthorne's). The thing it- A Full Plate does both so damn well.
On Team Savory, you have what is no less than the best brunch menu in the city. The Stuffed Mini's- 3 little breakfast sandwiches on wheat rolls- are my go to item, but make no mistake, I love others too. Such as the Vegetarian Sausage with Gravy and Biscuits. I got it this morning and was blown away at how amazing it is. And I'm a carnivore!
As for Team Sweets, you can't go wrong there either. There are not one but- count 'em- TWO French Toast options. One is a super decadent cinnamon Bobka; the other a more down-to-Earth vegan french toast, coated with Granola. There's the wafflewich sandwich, chick and waffles (in a heavenly sauce combining maple syrup and hot sauce) and a weekly sweet special.
All this is amazing, of course, but the food is only one reason to visit A Full Plate. Unlike Honey's and other popular brunch destinations, tables are almost always readily available. The acoustics are great too, so no, you do not have to scream to be heard.
I just love this place!Listed in: Mac N Cheese iz luv, Brunch off the Beaten Path....

I have been enjoying checking out the new stores & restaurants popping up in N-ern Liberties. That location has changed sooo much in the past years and it is exciting to try all the new spots. Anyway, we went there last night. We sat outside on a gorgeous night with a bottle of wine. It was quiet there... not too many customers... but sooo relaxing. The food was delicious and they really had a great menu. I had a white bean salad with fried tomatoes & carrots. Who knew, I love fried carrots! Their blueberry pie was fresh, warm and mmmmmmmmhh... you just have to try it yourself. I definitely recommend this place. You can feel that a lot of passion was put into the menu and you get the feeling that the owner(s) really cares about quality. I recommend more people go to check it out.
update: went here again recently, wasn't nearly as impressed. maybe now that the area hs been filling up with people they can't keep up. we went with a large group. everyone seemed mixed with their reactions to the dishes. mine was ok... i had the veggie wrap. no complaints but nothing to rave about. my husband ordered the open faced turkey. it looked terrible and he hardly ate it. he said it just was not good. a friend ordered the kale. it was waaay overdone and very salty unfortunately. i love kale.
2 friends ordered the mac and cheese and they absolutely loved it. they were raving about it all night.
anyway, i don't think i will be going back anytime too soon, unfortunately. i do think this is a better place for an intimate evening rather than a large group....
still love those mason jars!! :) -

After a particularly late night of drinking in bars, then drinking in parks, a few friends and I went to A Full Plate for brunch.
Because of our twentysomething nature, we cannot possibly all be on time. Our waiter was ridiculously accommodating, even when the last of our party showed up nearly an hour after we agreed to meet.
I don't really like breakfast foods (I know!), so I was pleased to see that we had the lunch menu. I got the tuna melt and the hush puppies, but little did I know, the tuna melt would be more than enough. It was slightly runny, which I found a little off-putting, but otherwise, a solid melt. The hush puppies were delicious, but kind of oily. Others seemed to enjoy their meals, save for the catfish po'boy, which took a verrry long time to arrive at our table.
Also, I love the soda jars.Listed in: I moved.

My first encounter with A Full Plate was through the Northern Liberties Food Tour. The samples of Mac and Cheese, Fried Green Tomatoes, and others were amazing, we had to go back for a full meal. And it totally lived up to everyone's standards.
Good relaxed atmosphere, delicious home made food, and great staff. Definately another winner in the No Libs area! -

I have been to A Full Plate multiple times for dinner and have been quite impressed so I decided to try brunch and satisfy two vegetarians (almost) and a vegan.
I had the Belgian waffles with the weird cream sauce and strawberries. Unfortunately, the waffles were cold in the middle and tasted like they were frozen or pre-made. We also had the vegan French toast but it tasted like a sack of old granola. Okay, well it was vegan French toast covered in granola so I guess I should have expected that. Finally, the vegetarian (not vegan) biscuits and gravy with the veggie sauce were pretty good and I'll most likely return to try other things on the menu for brunch.
