Review from David S.
Koloa, HI
called peter at 10:20 am sat, was here by 10:40, wired my unit and topped off the freon. problem fixed within an hour. he even dropped the price significantly, as his ballpark estimate on the freon he had to use was a little off.
he thoroughly explained all the technical things as he was working. i definitely recommend this company. -

My boyfriend, who lives up in Davis, called A Cool Air, Inc. for the second time and got the same great service as the first time. Peter Kalinin, the owner, took his call and came out to meet him at his house in Davis within the hour. Unlike the technicians from the company that installed my boyfriend's system - who wanted $8000 to put in a whole new system - Peter isolated the problem to just a bad thermostat. Furthermore, when he discovered that a generic replacement might not give him full compatibility, he gave him the number of an associate who handles that brand of equipment and did not charge my boyfriend anything for his travel or time. When you want an honest man who will not cheat you - call Peter at A Cool Air, you won't be disappointed.

Wow,
Everything said here about Peter is dead on. He was very pleasant to work with. He made an appointment time, and arrived on time. He called 30 minutes ahead to tell me he was on his way. Both were highly appreciated.
I brought Peter in for a second opinion when another local contractor (Who advertises a lot) told me I needed repairs totaling several thousand dollars or that I should just replace my furnace.
Peter came in and isolated the problem to a simple component he had in his van and I was up and running. He could have sold me a new Furnace, as that's what I originally called him for. Instead he made a small fix and was on his way.
I couldn't recommend Peter any more highly! You don't even need to bother calling anyone else. (And certainly not that other company) -

I emailed Peter in the morning, and Viktor came out later the same day. Great service, he cleaned up my AC, replaced a faulty part and my AC is a lot better now. He also showed me how to clean it out for future reference, and also told me to seal up where the hoses go into my wall so rodents dont get in there.
The prices for all their services were written down on a sheet of paper, so I knew he wasn't just throwing an imaginary number up in the air to see if I would bite...
All in all.. I scheduled for 5, he called me at 5 and told me he would be there at 6.. I left work early to make it by 5, but I'm not complaining, I was getting hungry and rather have been home eating and watching TV, than sitting at work watching Youtube and browsing Facebook all day.
Yelp says they accept credit cards, which is not true.. so I had to clean out my closet to find my fresh unopened box of checks.. and figure out how to write with a pen... haven't done that in a few years. -

We remodeled our home and Peter did an excellent job installing a new 2-zone HVAC system. He included a motorized damper, in-line fan booster for a separate room, and economizer fresh air intake. He is willing to weigh different options for rerouting the duct system and works well with our contractor.

Update: I'm more pleased than I thought I would be. My new AC runs amazingly and uses only 1.7 kW of power per hour (aka about 20 cents) compared to my old one that used 12 kW per hour and spat out warm air (yes, $1/hr - yikes!)
I would definitely recommend him; especially for those on a budget!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Peter was responsive and professional. I had a tenant call me in the afternoon to let me know that the heater had gone out in the house. By 8 pm that day, a Friday none the less, the heater was repaired and my tenants were happy. The final bill was less than what I had expected. I would highly recommend.

Today I was very pleased with the service I got from Peter from A Cool Air Inc. I wasn't really sure what this visit was going to entail, how long it would take or how much money it would cost, but in the end it only took about 90 minutes and I was out $150. I turned on my A/C last week to realize that air was blowing around but wasn't getting cold. My a/c worked great last summer but somehow stopped producing cold air in the past eight or so months since I've used it. So it turned out my unit needed freon and there was a wiring problem, caused when roofers did some work on my roof a few months ago. Wish I'd realized the problem sooner and could send the bill to the roofers. Anyway, Peter fixed the problem and explained what was going on and showed me the frazzled wires. My only criticism is that he was supposed to come over at 8:30 and didn't show up until around 9:30, but he did call several times this morning to check in, so I knew he was on the way. If I have another problem, I will definitely call him again in the future.

Worst Service !!!!! I have ever had!! Do not use the Company. Spent $$$ to replace a Heat/Air compressor on my rental unit, after two weeks my tenant complained that the heat was not working. I called Sat. AM, Peter-Pres. answered I explained, I asked if he would call the tenant to let them know when he would be there. I personally contacted Peter mid day Saturday to make sure he was going to check on it. A Cool Air never showed up or contacted tenant regarding the problem. I finally contacted Peter on Sunday he told me he was too busy to get to my tenant yesterday and would try to see them today-Sunday!

I had been having problems with my heat pump at home. I knew it had a leak because of having to add Freon to the system. I contacted several heating and air companies about preforming test on the system to determine the source of the leak over the last two years. Each one gave me "a line" about where the problem was and of coarse charged a lot just to come out and give their spill. After getting tired of this I decided to just replace the unit and the copper tubing running into the house. After getting several out raucous bits to replace a five five ton unit, some of which would not give a firm bit because they said they did not know exactly how much freon it would take, I contacted Peter @ A Cool Air Inc.. Not only was his bit for a start to completion replacement of the unit half of what I was getting from the other companies, his workmanship and craftsmanship was the best I have seen sense moving to California, he actually presented a lower bill than his bid was. Regardless of the bill I was so impress with his honesty, his impeccable craftsmanship and general matter that if the bill had been higher I would still been proud to pay it. This man should have been from the old south, which he is not, where a persons word is as good as any written contract. I have to say that sense moving to CA. this is the first home service type contractor I was proud to do business with.
Note: To those who may be replacing a a/c or heat pump unit....the new units come with the freon already packaged in them, which I learned from the honesty of this person, and the other companies placing the bits where going to charge $65 a pound (unit takes 9 to 11 pounds) and did not bother to say that the freon comes with the new package unit. (Buyer beware). Thanks Peter........ -

My AC went out and Peter from A Cool Air was able to come out the next day. 3 other local companies I called were booked 3-5 days out! It was 104 degrees and I could not wait! He diagnosed the problem and all he had to do was replace a capacitor and just charge the freon a bit. He was very knowledgeable, friendly and honest. I had no clue what needed to be done so he could have easily up-sold me on unnecessary extras but he didn't. He understands what repeat business and word of mouth means! I am a satisfied customer and highly recommend A Cool Air for all your Air Conditioning repair needs!
