I am upping this location to 4 stars (even though it is more of an urban 3 star location). I got in and out of there on BLACK FRIDAY WEEKEND - and the super-friendly checkout dude "K", even scanned coupons for me - when I had forgotten mine.
We got $1.00 sale ink pads for 33 cents after the discounts.
We also got lots of great worsted wool yarn and knitting needles (Needing Knittles) for my 7 year old budding fiber artist.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Review from Amanda G.
When I was in college I worked here for over a year. The staff was disorganized and the patrons were ignorant then, and it's the same way now.
I recently went to get a frame and a few pieces of scrapbook paper and had to wait in line for over 20 minutes. They have a camera that overlooks the registers, and I know that the managers sit in the back room and watch the live feed, so if they see there's a massive line of people why the F don't they come out and help? Especially if the young cashiers are asking for help over the sound system? Oh, that's right, because they just don't care.
I left wanting to cut someone's head off. It's sad that this is one of the only craft places in the city, because the location really is convenient. Maybe that's why it attracts such a wide variety of people. At any rate, I'll stick to driving out to the NE to visit Michaels instead. At least the time that I waste driving will be made up in speedy check-out time.
Sidenote: lots of stuff that AC Moore has Target also has (and it's cheaper). -

I'm definitely a fan of A.C. Moore! I have experienced some sketchy customer service at this location, but the bottom line for me is that they have the products I need and the prices are far more affordable than other craft stores.
I did have a piece of artwork framed there a few months back and I used my 50% coupon and I was pleasantly pleased with the timeliness and quality of the end result.
Price saving tip: sign up for their rewards card and you will receive weekly e-savings that are worth the trip down to Pennsport. -

I needed to get one of those stupid little birds you see a lot in fake floral arrangements...you know the kind that look like real birds from far away until you look closely and realize it's a mess of paint and feathers and styrofoam? One of those.
I finally convinced my friend Alison to bike down there with me (from Clark Park area). We stopped at Target. I got a cool pleather jacket. We took the scenic route from Target to AC Moore and looked at all the strip clubs.
I got my FREAKING bird for something like $2.50
I guess it was productive. -

Usually crowded, usually unorganized, generally somewhat dirty, and often filled with employees with a lack of class, lack of knowledge, and lack of manners. Some of the customers are even worse!
It is convenient though when you are in need of some basic craft supplies like felt, scrapbooking paper, or a mish mosh of beads but if you're looking for the real deal of crafting goodies head to Michael's in the Northeast. The selection is more extensive and you won't have to deal with the ignorant workers or wait in line with the ignorant customers stuffing their McDonald's french fries down their throats.
Two stars because I am guilty of shopping there. I can put up with it for felt and clasps, but not much else. Plus it's a bike ride away so it saves me time.Listed in: Shopping for My Shop

Not being racist or classist, I really don't mind the other customers or staff at AC Moore. I'm also able to go during the day when other people are working. It's a huge store and on my first visit (Thanks Cherie C) I was able to drop over 100 dollars on yarn and stuff. They've also got a pretty extensive supply of knitting notions. I'm glad that I was able to find a place to get run of the mill and cheaper yarn so that I'm able to practice things and make goofy projects without having to spend a crap tonne on fancy yarn at other stores. Not having to deal with yuppies and hipsters is a bonus as well!
The thing I'm marking them off on is the organization.. It took me a while to find what I was looking for in the yarn section and I'm pretty sure the stuff I wasn't able to find was there as well but I couldn't find it. -

The employees, though difficult to track down at times, have always been helpful here. I am able to find what I need, and they usually have good prices and/or coupons. No complaints!
Plus they had a really great sale this weekend and I made out like a bandit! -

Some really random art-related supplies can be found here. They also have some hobby supplies separate from art. I was able to find numerous origami papers here and my boyfriend picked up hot-glue sticks plus a $25 customizable balanced and weighted stick to practice those nifty pen-spinning moves. Yes, I guess we're nerdy.
This is a chain store but what they carry varies a bit from store to store. The staff is usually no where to be found and pretty uninterested in anything you might need help on, so maybe it's better to either look really hard for whatever it is you're looking for before finding someone and asking, since it might take the same amount of time.. -

This place is pretty extensive and has what most people might need for Arts and Crafts. But I only give it three stars, I'll tell you why. I needed frame for 11x17. Kind of an unusual frame to aquire. The guy that sold me the print told me to go to Michael's. But I figured I would check and see if it was available at AC Moore. So I called and asked "Do you have a 11x17" "Yes" she said. So I go there 5 minutes later. I looked around and was unable to find it at all. I went to the cashier, and I asked her if she knew where the 11x17 frames were. She was nice enough to close down her register and help me look. After looking for 10 min or so, I said I called and they said they had 11x17 frames, she said "Oh they were probably just lying to you." So after wasting an hour of my life I was unable to get a frame and thus give a gift to a friend.

I like this place. I don't understand what people are talking about regarding the customers and staff - do y'all seriously think you're going to be shanked with a crochet hook here? Yes, there are strip clubs and whatnot near here, but trust me, the customer base at A.C. Moore does not appear to overlap with that of the go-go dancers. I agree that it's understaffed and I usually need to walk up and down several aisles to find assistance, but once I do, the staff member is invariably friendly and knows the answers to whatever questions I have. There are always, always sales, and there is no pretension or up-selling - I've never seen a hipster in here, let alone one trying to sell me yarn for $16 a skein, which is what you'll find in the more precious independent yarn stores in Center City. The drawback is that the hipster stores usually have more comprehensive (and concomitantly pricey) craft technique classes, but if you've already learned how to knit/crochet/embroider/scrapbook/glue gun/etc. and just want to make things without emptying your bank account, this is the place to go.

They have a lot of good arts and craft stuff. So that's useful. But my beef w/ AC Moore is that their 60% Custom Framing coupon (they have store coupons available weekly on their own website) drew me in and when I asked how much it would cost to frame one piece of embroidered fabric, the woman told me "at least $200." I then told her I had the coupon and as I tried to do the math to figure out what 60% of $200 is (I'm not very good at math as it it turns out) she informed me that that was the price AFTER the coupon. I refuse to believe that is true. Even with the 60% off the price would be substantial, since my parents got a different version of the same fabric (same size) framed for $100 at a specialized framing store (no coupon needed). If the $200 included the 60% off then that is just ridiculous. Shame on AC Moore for drawing me in with their online coupon and then either committing highway robbery with their framing prices or putting an ill-informed (or straight up lying) worker behind the framing counter.
